The thing that really broke my heart was listening to Rachel’s interview with the Wheeler family who lost their son, Ben, and the mother said that her second son (first born) told her “you promised you’d protect us”. I can’t even imagine what that must have been like. And those words could be said to every parent/adult in this country. When Gabby Giffords was shot, President Obama called on the country to make this country worthy of the little girl who died. And that didn’t happen. It’s unbelievable that there are parents and elected officials who are pushing back against doing something to protect children from the horror of their gun obsessions, and their beloved 2nd Amendment.

I love how she tells this story. It’s so moving, and it really captures the awesomeness of that historic moment (from one history maker to another) – and the fact that the President is the one who gets waited for, even if it takes all day! Lovely – thanks for the trip down memory lane.
