You were so privileged to have shaken RFK's hand - wish I had! I also remember where I was when all of those events happened. Actually, I was sitting in my high school class when the principal came over the p.a. system to tell us President Kennedy had been shot. Feels like yesterday. I missed shaking his hand when he came to our city during his presidential campaign because I wanted to meet my friends after school at the "soda shoppe" - one of my biggest regrets!

You are absolutely right , JO about the tragic events of the 1960's! As a matter of fact most of the people assassinated in the 1960s were quite young. Malcolm X was also 39; JFK was 45; RFK was 42; and Medgar Evers was 37. I was 17 years old when Medgar Evers was assassinated, and I had just turned 18 when JFK was killed. I was 19 when we lost Malcolm X; and I was 22 when both MLK and RFK were taken from us. But I still vividly remember where I was when I heard the news. As for RFK, he died less than one month after I was so elated to have had the privilege of shaking his hand during the Oregon primary.

There were indeed many tragedies in the 1960's. I am happy that more and more people are beginning to honor the heroes of that era who sacrificed so much, including their lives, to make this country better.
