Second Mariele’s Amen. That is beautiful.
What a very moving picture. Thanks, Chips
What beautiful artwork.
Absolutely beautiful. Love it. Thanks Chips
I absolutely love this picture. It says a lot. Thanks Chips.
Jesus! I can’t look at that without crying. :-(
Truly the best photo ever–both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. It should have a prominent spot in the home of every person in the US who wants to end gun terror and violence and every single Democratic Party HQ in the US should hang a poster version of this on the wall. It tells us to Never Forget what happens when we don’t act and say Enough! This must stop. As PBO said at the press conference yesterday if all the actions we take save just one child, it will have been worth it. Imagine what this country would be like if that were our guiding philosophy.
Wow Jackie, that is a great suggestion. Does anyone know if the picture is available for mass distribution?
Yes, yes, yes. There is both sorrow and hope in the picture. It is the BEST picture evar to convey the ABSOLUTE need for gun control NOW!!!
That art work is absolutely beautiful.
These kids moved me to tears.
Not sure if this has been posted already but its worth another look:
Speechless here….there are no words for what Newtown has gone through. Thanks Chips & Donna & congrats on 1st Mariele.
DAMN. IT RIPS MY HEART OUT! That these babies have to go through this. My GOD where does it end?
And the children will lead…
Lovely. Innocent faces. Moving.
Tears add flavor to homemade chicken soup…
Hey DonnaDem. Have I missed details of DC?
Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Even for an old man like me it was hard to stop the tears from flowing after seeing this. What’s wrong with all of us adults who allow this senseless violence against these precious children, all in the name of abstract freedom? Do we really believe that the founding fathers, who are revered by many people, envisioned a society where deranged people can have easy access to assault weapons so that they can indiscriminately use them to kill innocent people, including precious children, all in the name of freedom? If Our country fails to deal with this proliferation of senseless gun violence against innocent people, then shame on all of us! Personally, I am at a point where I would have no problem supporting the repeal of the 2nd Amendment which is being misused. If we could repeal an Amendment banning the sale of alcohol, surely we can repeal an Amendment being misused by people who make it possible for deranged people to kill innocent people. This is the time for all Americans with any ounce of humanity to say to these gun nuts that Enough is Enough!
So beautiful, so moving. Thank you.
These precious lives…I hope there will be some meaningful change as a result of this tragedy
Tears here. We used this song at our grandson’s Celebration of Life service……..almost same arrangement. I still pray for these families every day.
Move over I’m right next to you.
What really bothers me about these people, like S E Cupp, going on about thier guns, NONE show any remorse at the murder of others, even innocent children. Every day my SO and myself call several in Washington regarding guns, we focus on GOP,or as Tweety said today the party of Guns Over People.
MSNBC should not have allowed S. E. Cupp to give her pro gun tirade the day before PBO is to announce his gun control proposals.
Her pro-gun mindset, and those like her with this unnatural obsession with guns, this love of guns above all else, are harming our country and are helping to continue to put our citizens, including innocent children, at risk of being shot to death.
I don’t call it pro-gun anymore. I call it pro-murder. These people are enabling the murders of innocents. Pro-life they are not.
She was a good example of the heartless, selfish RWNJ mindset. Nothing and no one matters, as long as I got what I want.
I’m not a fan of Michael Moore the blowhard, but last week he wrote a piece that cut to the heart of everything that’s wrong in America: we have become a “I’ve got mine so eff you” society. You put that together with the reality-bending nut jobs on RW radio who have made facts irrelevant, and then you give every one of those nut jobs a gun — and we’ve become a deranged society.
It’s not just the gun rights. It’s the gun rights coupled with a society that no longer cares about one another, that sees ‘slavery’ in providing health care to all Americans. It’s completely, frighteningly deranged and now perilously dangerous.
And S. E. Cupp was the face of that derangement today.
Every Democrat MUST VOTE in every election. They are only holding any reins of power because we’re too disorganized to VOTE.
I am at the point were I am very disappointed in MSNBC. Some times I wonder if Rupert Murdoch isn’t running it.
Father, in the Name of Jesus as the Presidential Inauguration draws near I sincerely pray for first and utmost the complete and total protection of our President Obama and his precious family Michelle, Malia, Sasha and Grandmother Robinson and also Vice-President Biden and his lovely wife Jill and their children Hunter, Beau and Ashley and their respective spouses. Lord let the day be glorious from the Processional to the swearings-in to the parades and various celebrations and through all of the Inaugural Balls. Thank You Sir as the First Family participates this weekend on the National Day of Service that it is very well received. During these next very specal days in our Beloved Leaders lives let there be joy, peace, love happiness and a wonderful spirit of freedom. Let them all always be in the right places at the right times. Thank You for letting his second Presidential term be just plain awesome as I know You can. Keep Your Almighty Hand on him and them keep them safe always and protected always and be an enemy to his enemies and an adversary to his adversaries.Be with all of them always keeping the angels around them and let Your Glory shine through them as they take care of ‘We the people’. Thank you for giving them total and complete confidence and guidance.AMEN!!!!
VL, your prayers are amazing! Thank you. God Bless!
Amen. This is often my prayer.
In Jesus’s name we pray….AMEN.
with deepest gratitude for all we are given,
vitaminlover, a lovely prayer for First Family and the Biden family.
In God’s Holy name, Amen. Thank you vitaminlover. You’re just too awesome.
Thank you. When ever I feel that negative space about the safety of our great leaders and their families I will read this.
Amen. Thank you Vitaminlover. Awesome prayer.
I see there was another school shooting this afternoon—–at a St. Louis bsns. school. Student shot an administrator and then himself, both are in surgery at last word. Motive was said to be a dispute about financial aid, so the student took out his gun and shot away.
This is a crazy, dangerous atmosphere in this country right now. Out of control. I am so disgusted with everyone/anyone standing in the way of sensible gun legislation. It’s mind-boggling to me. Any steps that can be taken will be welcome, even if PBO has to use executive action. But as was pointed out on Bashir today, legislation is what is needed, as the next guy with a pen can wipe away any presidential action, lickety split.
Yet, the NRA want to arm teachers with guns. My goodness!!!
Yes @ Dotster3, I live in St Louis, what is it going to take to wake the American people up
This is absolute madness! So now every disagreement has to be settled with guns.
I know I may be the only one raising this, but I think it’s time to start a serious discussion about repealing the 2nd Amendment and replacing it with a more limited right to own guns for hunting, sports, and personal protection. The 2nd Amendment, in its current form, is being misused by gun nuts who are intent on inflicting havoc and chaos in this country. This silly notion that a bunch of crazies, wielding assault weapons, can protect us from federal govt. tyranny is laughable! The government has such an overwhelming monopoly of violence that if any president chose to be a tyrant he/she would not be overly concerned about a bunch crazies wielding assault weapons. Think about all the weapons and man power at the disposal of the President! Does any one seriously think that these right wing gun nuts, who talk BS about the bloodshed in defense of liberty, would match the combined power of the four branches of the military under the command of the President?
I heard someone else say that today. I don’t think it’s a dumb idea, and I think more people may be coming to that conclusion. The gun nuts have stretched the 2nd amend. so far away from its original intent. It’s become an unsettled, dangerous climate here now, with every potential hothead or mentally unstable person walking around anywhere and everywhere armed and dangerous.
Poignant. Suffer the little children.
Impressionable and hopeful. Thank you.
Just got in and logged on. What a thought-provoking and emotionally inspired poster and idea. Off to enjoy the rest of the posts and comments.
Good afternoon, Chips and TOD ohana.
Enough is enough, stand up to the NRA and their supporters: youtube.com/watch?v=FZVONL…— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) January 15, 2013
Never, ever forget the Children.
Whitney Houston’s Children are our Future is all I have been thing about.
The very reason more, why I truly believe that the children that would like to speak should be allowed to.
Last night, AC360 had a letter sent to Newtown, CT from 2 children expressing their support and sending Four Cents taped to their letter to help with other surviving children in Newtown CT. Only Children could think of such pure caring act. It broke my heart.
I love that picture at the top :)
George Benson was the original singer – he sang “The Greatest Love of All” for a movie titled “The Greatest” which was about Muhammad Ali.
Martin Luther King in Montgomery, Alabama on March 25, 1965
His “How Long? Not Long!” is one of the most moving rallying cries to me. Thank you so much for bringing this here, on Dr. King’s birthday.
How Long? This was 1965. It’s now 2013. Not long? Food for thought.
Here are some excerpts from and a link to the full transcript of “How Long? Not Long!” …
“Our aim must never be to defeat or humiliate the white man, but to win his friendship and understanding. We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience. And that will be a day not of the white man, not of the black man. That will be the day of man as man. (Yes) … I know you are asking today, “How long will it take?” (Speak, sir) Somebody’s asking, “How long will prejudice blind the visions of men, darken their understanding, and drive bright-eyed wisdom from her sacred throne?” Somebody’s asking, “When will wounded justice, lying prostrate on the streets of Selma and Birmingham and communities all over the South, be lifted from this dust of shame to reign supreme among the children of men?” Somebody’s asking, “When will the radiant star of hope be plunged against the nocturnal bosom of this lonely night, (Speak, speak, speak) plucked from weary souls with chains of fear and the manacles of death? How long will justice be crucified, (Speak) and truth bear it?” (Yes, sir) I come to say to you this afternoon, however difficult the moment, (Yes, sir) however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, (No sir) because ‘truth crushed to earth will rise again.’ (Yes, sir) How long? Not long, (Yes, sir) because “no lie can live forever.” (Yes, sir) How long? Not long, (All right. How long) because ‘you shall reap what you sow.’ (Yes, sir) … How long? Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
IMO, this will never happen until each of us begins to view others as human beings with the same feelings and same aspirations that we have, and the realization that we are inextricably linked to each other, whether we want to admit it or not. It has become too easy for some of us to ignore the plight of others or dismiss it altogether because we think it has no impact on us. It does. Every kid whose life is snuffed out by violence is one more link in the chain that we lose. Those who claim to be pro-life should be first to support the revision of our gun control laws. How do we know the child wouldn’t have made a significant contribution to the world? Every time I see the kids who were assassinated at Sandy Hook, I think of how they were looking forward to Christmas, I think of their hopes and dreams and that some of them had already decided on their future careers. Whether some on the right want to admit it or not, we all lost something the day these kids died. It doesn’t matter to me that all of the kids weren’t black like me. It doesn’t matter to me that their parents voted for republicans. It doesn’t matter to me that some of their parents may not like PBO. All that matters to me is that these innocent lives were taken by someone who had no business having access to any kind of gun. Every child in America deserves to grow up in a secure society and the right to reach adulthood and pursue their goals in life. There’s no excuse for Americans who refuse to act to accomplish these things, and it’s very disheartening to see the lack of will on the part of some of our lawmakers in Congress who are in a position to make sure that the goals I identified for each child in this country have a chance to succeed so that our kids will succeed.
Thank you for expressing your thoughts so beautifully, for all of us who share them.
Beautifully and powerfully stated, majiir. Thank you.
I completely agree. If they want to have military grade weapons then let the join the army, navy, Air Force or marines. Although come to think of it, they probably wouldn’t pass the tests.
Thanks so much, prettyfoot for sharing a segment of this incredible speech by MLK! I vividly remember this speech which he delivered at the end of the Selma-to-Montgomery March for Voting Rights! My favorite MLK line: “No lie can live forever!” One of those lies is the lie that individual possession of assault weapons is for the people’s defense against government tyranny!
But some lies take a longgggggg time to die…and like a virus they often mutate
Took this (poor) pic at We Are One concert 4 yrs ago, still offended, fall in to at least three of those categories. http://t.co/gAc3hVnj— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) January 15, 2013

Rick Scott's dog has been found. His name is Pluto now and lives on a horse ranch. buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynsk…— Andrew Kaczynski (@BuzzFeedAndrew) January 15, 2013
That is good for the dog on both counts — better name, better place to live.
Gail Collins needs to get on this story.
Yes, this is right up her alley!
Good for Pluto. And now he has a guardian angel dog named Seamus. ( )
Hey all, my new piece is up on TPV: Where even Joe Scarborough sees the writing on the wall.
Well done, LL! “…reap the whirlwind” indeed!
Great stuff babe!
The pictures of those beautiful children just broke my heart. Such innocence, life and love stolen from them.
We got the right President for this. He’s a doer, and he’s already going to do something-exactly what, we will find out tomorrow. And things are already happening. There’s been more talk about gun control in the last month than there has been for decades, and some legislatures, like New York, are going to try something.
This tragedy has the NRA flummoxed. None of the lazy, paranoid talking points work this time for many people. The victims were too helpless, too innocent to blame. The place they died was supposed to be as safe as safe could be-and violence still found them. It wasn’t a bad neighborhood. It wasn’t a drug deal gone wrong. They couldn’t be dismissed as teens being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or young bullies who got something coming, or somehow else at fault for bringing on their deaths.
So the crazy has come out in full force among the gun folks. The crazy is because they cannot dismiss the deaths of 20 children at once like they can the ones and twos that happen every day. The crazy is showing how little lack of caring about others they really have. Not once has a single gun defender even extended a word of sympathy towards the hurting parents and hurting community. Not a dollar to help families bury the dead and to pay for the injured and scared, to fix up the new school. Instead we get talk of revolution if even a single new regulation limits guns. We get massive buys of guns. We get crazy professors who believe that Obama would actually conspire to have 26 people die just so he could ban guns.
So true CD. I am glad that there so many people are talking about this and that it will not get sweep under the rug this time. There are too many people with good sense to know that pumping multiple bullets into the body of six and seven year olds in absolutely insane. I listen to Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes and the different folks in the afternoon on progressive radio. I hear the wackos who go ballistic and spout lies about Obama is gonna take away all the guns or I hear people who start out like they make sense then they twist their logic into a pretzel as to why doing anything just won’t work. Last night I was listening to Coast-2-Coast and the host is a right winger but I listen to the show when I can’t sleep and they talk about ghosts. This older guy got on and said that people like the hosts and his guest need to STOP ginning up fear that President Obama does not want to take away everyone’s handguns and rifles. He was very elegent and sensible about banning high powered weapons and high capacity clips. At first the host agreed and thanked him then when on to ask the gentleman “if we allow this ban what’s going to stop someon in the government fifteen years from now who WILL take away guns”? The guy just hung up because you just can’t reason to these parinoids.
Jeez, was there anything Lance Armstrong didn't use? http://t.co/eb7U73Gk— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) January 15, 2013
RUGS! Holy shit! Not RUGS!! Was he THAT desperate to win???!!! :) :)
Clearly, Desertflower, he would stop at nothing – next thing we’ll hear he was snorting carpets.
I’m thinking those carpet fibers licked some ass. Serious ass. I only have tile in my house, so as NOT to be doin’ the rugs!
Hey, what’s wrong with that, Aladdin used rugs too, didn’t he?
 True, Pamela – and he was just as speedy!
Not sure of that, but he certainly had a better view (behinds etc, a-hem, see where this goes….) ;)
O, dear, I meant ALADDIN had a better view, but that’s just IMHO.
You know Chips, no disrespect, but I don’t give a rats ass about this moron. I’m sittin’ over here in a heap thinking ’bout those babies and the people in NY and NJ. Screw Lance, Oprah and anyone of those “heads” that’s not focused on what’s happening now….Sorry.(smh)
I understand Yardarm, and not for a minute am I suggesting Armstrong is remotely as important a story as gun control. But I do think his story is important, it’s all about media collusion and deceit allied to powerful $$-driven interest groups successfully conning the public in to believing lies and an absolute fake – it’s the story of our time, and it repeats itself in politics every single day. It’s something the NRA has benefited from too, over the years, so the link isn’t as tenuous as we might think.
I concur. Sorry I lost it. I usually have better control. Please accept my apology.
Hey Yardarm, absolutely no need to apologize, I threw in a flippant tweet at a completely inappropriate time, I should say sorry. I’m Armstrong-obsessed, I’ll admit, I can’t even begin to describe how much I despise him, but it was the wrong time to mention him. Love ya.
I wonder if Lance will get the “Marion Jones” treatment or he’ll get a pass. He was investigated and he lied about use of doping. Marion Jones went to prison for lying under oath. I see Lance was investigated put I don’t know if he testified to congress or federal government. What turns my stomach is everyone wants to give him a pass for all the “good” he’s done for cancer research but not some of the others who were villified.
You couldn’t possibly be talking about a double standard here, could you?
When it walks and quacks like a duck…..
It must be a duck or a platypus!
Do they quack?
I dunno. You’ll have to ask 99t. That’s the only place you can find that animal, I think.
I have to say I agree. I couldn’t care less about Lance Armstrong. And I can’t figure out why all the hullabaloo now—-we’ve all known for a long, long time he was using drugs—-rumors for years and then everyone who knew him admitted it. Too many other way more important stories which affect millions, nonsensical for all this media attention for this one pathetic, lying cheater.
I disagree! This story is huge – but I’ll shut up!
I’m so late to the party today…busy, busy, busy. I wanted to make sure that all of you read LL’s piece at TPV. LL….you couldn’t be more right on! THIS was part of PBO’s larger plan, I have been saying all along…to out these good for nothing’s and expose them for the bought and paid for shills that they are. Excellent piece, LL. Thank you:)
Not sure if this was posted yesterday, but having total “dislike” (I actually loathe her) for my governor, Jan Brewer, I found much delight in reading the article below:
Brewer: Arizona Will Expand Medicaid Under Obamacare
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, one of the most vocal opponents of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, announced Monday that the state will expand its Medicaid program. The expansion will include anyone who earns up to 133 percent of the current federal poverty level.
In her annual State of the State address, Brewer acknowledged the pragmatism behind her decision, saying she agreed to go with the expansion in order to receive the program’s funds and create jobs for the people of Arizona.

Don’t be fooled, isn’t she up for election in 2014? She is just like Arnold Swartzenegger when he was nice to the nurses, students, fire fighters, etc., then as soon as he got back into office he proceeded to screw them.
She can’t run again. Termed out, though the corrupt and equally stupid SOS is trying to see if there’s a way around that rule. This state is so freaking corrupt. I’ve never seen anything like it. Jan’s done, and not a moment too soon. To say I detest her is an understatement. I won’t trust this unless and until this is a done deal.
I totally agree with you DF – Ken Bennett is the one that wanted to not allow Obama on the ballot for 2012. Brewer and Bennett are cohorts of the SB1070 King Russell Pearce’s, who, thank heavens, was taken down. There are better days coming to Arizona. I think we went way to the right and things are slowly scrolling back towards the middle.
I pray the Democrats get out and work your butts off in 2014 to get a Democratic Governor and more Democrats in the senate so you can some day overturn some of the bad law that has been enacted.
oh, wait– so government funds will create jobs? a federal program will be helpful to the state? pbo’s program is beneficial to brewery in her bid for re-election? i see no pigs flying out my window?
Is a manufacture piece of metal worth more than a life so you can keep your man card? I think not!— Nelson (@Yardarm756) January 15, 2013
A manufactured piece of metal does not a man make! Too bad so many young males think that is the case. That thinking can be changed.
I seriously doubt it. At first one must be comfortable in their skin.

good. we need sweeping.
i don’t like toad’s use of the word ‘attempt’ however. how about ‘plan’. anyone who wants to see the precious children of this country protected needs to use positive language and supportive statements in this discussion. looking at you, toad.

Well said, JOBoomr! We must not let down the parents, relatives, friends of all the innocent people, and especially the precious children, murdered by guns. This time we must resolve to have the President’s and the Vice-President’s backs to make sure that these reforms are implemented!
I’m @ this function this evening. You know the kind where they give you really cool bites but you can only carry one @ a time cos your other hand’s occupied w/ a pretty cocktail. Oh VC, I need to have Octopus powers, @ least the damn tentacles!
  Party’s over?
i had a conversation today with a fellow who recently visited a country where everybody seemed to have a gun. there were towers at shopping malls, with security guards looking down holding assault rifles. there were guards with assault rifles in every bank entrance, and in the airport, and just walking the streets. armed thieves were also patrolling, and would tap your shoulder with their gun and gesture for you to hand over your wristwatch, cellphone, wallet, in broad daylight, in ‘nice’ neighborhoods. there were gun killings every day. the schools all had guards with assault rifles, too. this man told me he never was so frightened in his life. the gun culture was complete, and devastating. horrible.
Dare we ask what country he traveled to?
it was ecuador, guayaquil region. when i was there in the 70s, there were uniformed teenagers with assault weapons at the airport, but the rest of the dystopia he described is more recent. all those armed guards, but no safety. i mean, and no safety.
So sad to see a society devolve into this type of situation. It could happen in the US if the NRA idiots had their way. Thank heavens for PBO and VPOTUS.
Random thought (am on train looking out): you think folks will take dow xmas decs b4 Inauguration? :)
what time is PBO going to do the presser tomorrow?
Jay said at around 11:35 or so. My prediction, is at about 12:00 noon.

I’ve been reading about Jesus as an apocalyptic prophet, so I’ve been in that frame of mind for a couple of weeks. LOL
It worked… apt metaphor! I could just see that whirlwind!
Anyone know the 1 Dem who voted against?
1 Dem who won’t be one for much longer.
And I see the Tn. Gov. declared the state a disaster area today due to flooding and ice
Only Dem voting against Sandy aid is from Tennessee, which apparently never gets hit by disaster. #goodtoknow— Steve Weinstein (@steveweinstein) January 16, 2013
Steve Cohen???? We’ve had some horrendous tornadoes and floods throughout the entire state the past 4 or 5 years. Can’t fix stupid, I guess.
So does that mean we have 48 semi-sane Republicans in the House. If so, we could get a lot done if Boehner would just
bring bills to the floor.
Ms Chips, the picture above is perfect…. I already shared. BRING ON the gun control, and high time too!
That’s an excellent graphic chips. It’s a pity that only the one-third of US government branch is willing to have the courage to do what is right for the people.
Very proud of NYS for passing gun control legislation. Thank you!
Any question that @NancyPelosi is IN CONTROL of the 113th Congress was obliterated by the 241-180 vote to pass Sandy Relief. cc @Lawrence— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) January 16, 2013
She brought 193 of the 200 Ds to the deal, and we now know 48 Rs who aren’t total lunatics.
What happened to the seven dems ? They voted no or abstained?
1 voted no. Don’t know about the others, but will try to check the tally sheet later
The House on Tuesday rejected a Republican amendment that would have forced the government to pay for a $17 billion Hurricane Sandy relief bill with a 1.63 percent cut to discretionary programs.
The House voted down the amendment from Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) in a 162-258 vote that split Republicans 157-71. Those 71 “no” votes from Republicans were enough to kill the amendment, as all but five Democrats also voted against it.

I’d love to know who is among that little rump group of Democrats that are voting no. We can’t afford to lose a single vote on the big issues and those idiots need to be target.

Beautiful, and just as timely today. Or any day.
Wonderful quote, Prettyfoot! Thanks for sharing it with us. Although he was taken from us at such a young age, MLK lived a life full of meaning. I always cite the examples of Dr. King, Medgar Evers and the other young people who dominated the freedom movement of the 60s, to encourage young people today to get involved in bringing about Change. All the emoprogs who believe in instant gratification forget how long it took to pass such legislations as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Most of them have been spoon-fed the myth that these laws were purely brought about by a strong President, LBJ, who used the “bully pulpit.” They conveniently forget the struggles that took decades before that. Dr. King was elevated to leadership by the Black community of Montgomery, Alabama at Age 26. This was at the time when the vast majority of Blacks in Montgomery, and all across the South, were still denied the right to vote. Dr. King was 36 when Congress finally passed the Voting Rights Bill that removed impediments used to deny African Americans the right to vote. At the time of the passage of the Voting Rights Act, President Obama had already spent ten years as one of the major leaders in the struggle for freedom and equality,
One of the things PBO often speaks on is the pace of change…how it is often slow…never easy…and take work to bring about…but we do get there…….the arc of universe bends toward justice…
I have a meeting in a while, may not get back in time to check up, er, in. Have a good night, try not to miss me! ;)

Dr. King on Meet the Press….
Interesting how not much has changed RE: the questioning by so called reporters
I don’t yet have time to watch it all at the minute – but the first question could have been asked by any of the current band of merry men media pundits. The followups were worse.
How incredibly sad that this wonderful man was one of the many killed by the insane lunatics with guns. The US was the big loser.
You are absolutely right, preetyfoot! Not much has changed regarding MSM reporters. Interestingly, journalists, like Tom Wicker of the NYT, were then regarded as moderate liberals. Wicker sure didn’t sound like a liberal to me.
his questions reminded me of the clergy who chastised DrKing for breaking the law /he answered them in his now famous ~Letter from a Birmington Jail~…oftentimes we of today forget how dangerous it was for Blk folks in the South….the lynchings……the nite riders…the beatings…the daily intimidations and humiliations and the living in fear …that Blk folks were subjected to..it courage to stand up because to stand up could mean your life….
Sadly I think what we’re seeing is what happens as a result of Lincoln’s desire to preserve the Union.
.@SpeakerBoehner – This is for you and your batshit crazy party. #gop #tcot http://t.co/8TSFo2Q4— (@amk4obama) January 16, 2013

batshit crazy bachmann's repeal obamacare, finds zero co-sponsors. Also too two other anti-Obamacare bills. thinkprogress.org/health/2013/01…— (@amk4obama) January 16, 2013
Earlier this month, Tea Party darling Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) admitted that his plan to introduce yet another Obamacare repeal bill would be unlikely to pass in the wake of President Obama’s decisive re-election. As it turns out, that was an understatement.
In a sign that the GOP’s anti-Obamacare fervor may finally be giving way to political reality, Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) latest Obamacare repeal bill doesn’t have a single co-sponsor in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. Bachmann made introducing the repeal bill her first order of business for the 113th Congress, even as millions of Americans waited for House Republicans to act on a disaster relief package in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
And two other anti-Obamacare bills — one to repeal the law’s individual insurance mandate and another introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-IA) to repeal the whole law — also do not have any co-sponsors. By contrast, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) so-called “Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act” had a total of 182 cosponsors by the fourth day of the 112th Congress, and House Republicans successfully voted to repeal Obamacare a staggering 33 times during the last session — costing taxpayers an approximate $50 million. Public support for repealing the reform law has plunged to an all-time low as Americans begin experiencing its positive effects.
It would seem that despite all they can throw at the President – he will be known forever as the President who
1. Introduced Universal health care to the United States
2. Implemented gun control in the United States – and I firmly believe that in 50 years or less this will result in the repeal of the 2nd amendment. I would so love to be alive to see this.
That he was the first AA President will fade into insignificance next to these two major achievements (and the hundreds of other amazing achievements) – be nice if the current media began to realize that fact.
if not a repealing but a re-interpretaion of the Amendment
Why didn’t the people of Minnesota send that wacky Michele Bachmann back home to Marcus for good.
Dear @BarackObama after 4 yr of GOP insurgency against you, the entire world knows that they ALSO HATE hurricane victims. cc @NancyPelosi— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) January 16, 2013
I heard on Rachel Maddow show that the Republican Senator from Alaska Lisa Murkowski has said that she does not support her party not raising the debt ceiling. She said that they might not say it out loud but there are other Republican Senators who feel the same way. Well well well, what do you know. We are not a deadbeat country.
