More Inauguration information here
Hey Chips, thanks for this. I am printing it and keeping it close. I don’t want to miss a second of it. :) Congrats to Carol for first.
Yes! Hiya Carol!
Good Day! :)
Yes, you are! :-)
Proud to be on the medal stand with you, LL.
Ha, in Chelsea’s dreams /runs
so much to catch up on when I get home from work! Looking forward to your round up of the gun news, Chips:) Did he sign EO’s today that get this ball rolling, or do we have to wait for the Do Nothing’s to move this forward?
He signed 23 executive orders! He kicked butt, df.
John Cole: “At some point we’re just going to have to demand that these assholes appear on television in their Klan uniforms.”
Where are the so-called moderate Republican office holders commenting on this issue? They here the crazies who are out there giving their party a bad name. Isn’t it time they come out from under the bed and denounce these nutjobs?
Yeah, Xtine, but without the hoods. I want to see them to show their hateful faces so everyone in America can get a good look
at who they are.
Yep. Pretty much.
puff, puff, puff, huff, huff, huff, wheeze, wheeze, wheeze…..whew, I finally made it here. I must be getting old, I can hardly keep up with the threads.
You and me both, cm! :-)
Phew! woke up real late to a real s… storm. Hi ya’ll. It looks like it’s time to really hunker down. Lot’s to catch up on. Off to read previous threads and get some more coffee.
thx for the schedule, chips. much appreciated!
OT – can anyone direct me to those in Congress, Seante that are in the pocket of NRA. I want to direct my phone calls to those that are financially supported by the NRA. Thank you.
My spirit will be with those attending. This is so special. My heart and soul and all my support are with President Barack Hussein Obama and Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. and their families. May your second term continue with better and better initiatives for the United States of America. May you bring us together with purpose to continue to make the country reach its greatest potential. As you have said, our best days are ahead. Thank you for putting country first. I will strive to be a better person because of your example. I will also try to give more than one day service to my country. A citizens work is never done either. You have my full support.
good hawaii morning chips and tod ohana!
carolmae, you said it just right. i am also affirming those good things, and letting hope shine from my heart into the world where good will be done. good is being done right now, and we’re all a part of it, busily countering the negativity and evil with our strong support of the president, and all the good works we take up every day.
Aloha! Would you please tell me the definition of mahala? Sorry if I spelled wrong. Does it mean thank you or did I guess wrong. Such a beautiful word along with aloha.
I picked up our Inauguration during my lunch break today. I am so excited. :)
Goosebumps for you!
I’m going to cry a lot again on Monday, aren’t I? I’d better get a new box of tissues.
Lib Lib, did you see my message?
No, I did not. What was it?
Looks like at least an 80% cure for Alzheimer’s and easy. http://tinyurl.com/ase2skd
Someone else posted a link to the paper. Look on the last post please.
Wow! That’s excellent news!
Just tweeted it.
Good…..we have a history in our family for dementia/Alzheimer.
That is such great news! I tweeted it too. Although someone put a damper on my joy — apparently the accompanying picture from the article, which I highlighted in my tweet is of euthanasia medicine in syringe. She said she works in vet hospital and the pink color is very distincive. Way to stamp out a buzz. :-(
@MHarrisPerry They didn't forget. But they're hoping their members & masters are dumb enough or hateful enough not to care.— Dudette (@Dudette9t9) January 16, 2013
Dammit wrong link again… sorry!
@Dudette9t9 unfortunate picture of what looks like a syringe full of euthanasia solution.— B Bigelow (@beebigelow) January 16, 2013
@Dudette9t9 I work in a veterinary hospital, that stuff is distinctively pink. It's probably a stock pic, as you say.— B Bigelow (@beebigelow) January 16, 2013

*National Prayer Service – 10:30 AM
Join us in welcoming President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for the fifty-seventh Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. This interfaith celebration will help mark the beginning of a new presidential term through prayer, readings, and musical performances. [.....]
If any one has the web site for contact info for all of the members of Congress, House & Senate could you post it? It’s time we all do what our President asked us to do and start contacting all of our lawmakers.
Here you go.
Thank you, Linda.
You are welcome..
Called my 2 senators and 1 congressman. Of course I’m from a blue state, but it was great to hear the offices say that the vast majority of calls have been in support of PBO. Let’s keep up the work!
Just watched the tape of VP and PBO’s speeches on gun control, and loved every minute of it. When I was a kid, I remember my dad tearing up when he watched presidential speeches, and that he and my mom were so proud to be Americans. I never felt proud to be American until about 4 years, but now I’m fired up. I love participating in our democracy and knowing our President is listening to us. The only part of his speech that gave me pause was when he asked Americans to let their Congress people know they support PBO’s gun control efforts. I’m a resident of DC, so I don’t have a voting rep in Congress. I definitely feel a little wind knocked out of my sails when I’m reminded of that, but I’ll keep speaking for myself until something changes. There was a little victory today for DC locals. PBO agreed to put DC license plates on his limos for inauguration that have the District slogan of “Taxation without Representation” on them. Here’s the story from the Washington City Paper:
“President Obama has lived in the District now for four years, and has seen first-hand how patently unfair it is for working families in D.C. to work hard, raise children and pay taxes, without having a vote in Congress,” the White House said in a statement. “Attaching these plates to the presidential vehicles demonstrates the President’s commitment to the principle of full representation for the people of the District of Columbia and his willingness to fight for voting rights, Home Rule and budget autonomy for the District.”
Anne, Itotally share your sentiments. I have relatives in DC! I am proud my President decided to symbolically highlight the injustice of not allowing DC residents to have equal Representation in Congress. The last time I checked the population of DC was bigger than that of Dick Cheney’s Wyoming, which has two U.S. Senators and one voting member of the House of Rep.
[From Greg Sargent]:
[.....] Obama signaled a major political push lies ahead. Conservatives screamed about Obama’s use of children at today’s event, and it’s not hard to understand why: It shows that Obama is going to mount a major public relations push to sell his proposals — one that, crucially, frames the battle as one over whether we are capable as a society of acting to protect our children from violent death. “The emphasis on much of the rhetoric has been on humanizing the issue and keeping the focus on protecting children,” Spitzer says [Xtine: Robert Spitzer, the author of the Politics of Gun Control, not the Mayflower/Current TV guy!!]. Expect that to continue.

"they want their most fervent supporters as paranoid and angry as possible" | The #NRA Opens Fire buff.ly/W7mfAD #guncontrol #p2 #TFY— Imani ABL (@AngryBlackLady) January 16, 2013
There is a national epidemic of ‘mental illness’, dictated by the tea party, the NRA and RW radio and TV. Millions have lost all ability to reason, see reality and are awash in paranoia.
I blame it on the past thirty years of Right Wing Hate Radio who have convinced even intelligent, smart, college educated people that “liberals” are evil and want to destroy this country. The easily manipulated and ignorant I understand, but I don’t get the middle and upper middle class who fall for this garbage.
Totally agree!! Raising my son I was aghast at what he was exposed to even on music stations.
You are so right. And in a normal world, their beliefs would be the definition of ‘mental illness’.
My husband got into it with a friend over the weekend. Highly educated, socially liberal. But he’s lost his mind on PBO, on guns. His source of news is Rush. He’s a retired stockbroker worth millions. How does someone who used to be intelligent become so terrifyingly dumb?
His brother now carries a gun and the friend actually said if his brother had been in the movie theater in Aurora he would have ‘taken the guy down’. The image of this pampered, lazy, selfish bastard who whines if there’s a speck of ice in front of his favorite restaurant, taking out a weapon and using it wisely and effectively is laughable. And yet millions of ‘educated’ Americans believe this shit.
Maybe because it’s easier for them to hate than love, since they have no skills to fit into society without joining the bands set up for the wicked and possessed. It’s easier to hate something than to stand up for what’s good. And some people do not feel a sense of belonging as lone individuals, so being able to belong to a group that, for instance, follows hate radio or TV shows makes them feel like they’re not alone. All they have to know about life is how to hate.
In other words, truly stupid reasons for the stupid among us to find a belief system through their worst personal instincts. That’s not what I call “living.” But, hey, I’m just a liberal.
Question: why are their Americans working on a Bp oil rig, on the Border of Algeria/Libya? Do they know how volatile that area is?
Are they nuts?
Very good pay.
It’s a calculated risk. Certainly not one I’d want to take.
Yep. Godson did 2 6-mo stints in Afghanistan setting up commercial HVAC units for contractor after his tour of duty was over. Got paid obscene money. But after getting married and baby daughter he decided the money wasn’t worth the risk anymore.
Like a million dollars per day? I hope!
I bet you, John McCain, and his not so secret admirer, Lindsey Graham, will soon be blaming this on President Obama and Susan Rice.
Governor Deval Patrick today proposed a $5 million increase in mental health spending as a means to reduce gun violence, a proposal that springs from a series of mass shootings where the suspects are believed to have been mentally ill, including last month’s massacre in a Connecticut elementary school.
“In the wake of too many tragedies, I have filed legislation to tackle the problem of gun violence and illegal firearm possession,’’ Patrick said in a statement. “Today, we do so again along with an important investment in mental health programs. Mental illness is a disease that can be treated, and our communities are safer when the appropriate services and supports are available for people in need.’’
The proposal would require the state court system to share mental health records from its files with the National Instant Background Check System. Courts deal with mental health issues in both criminal and civil cases.
In the fiscal 2014 budget that he is expected to unveil in the coming days, Patrick will propose a 3.3 percent increase to the Department of Mental Health budget, which would include the $5 million for programs with the “greatest impact on public safety.’’
Sounds good to me. So many of the governors are acting now.
So the NRA will be support this, right? Because it’s not the guns it’s the mental health!!
“[.....] To borrow a line from Norm Ornstein and Thomas Mann, the NRA is an “insurgent outlier.” The NRA is ideologically extreme — it’s fully committed to blocking sensible gun reforms supported by large majorities of Americans. The NRA is deliberately, even strategically, committed to scuttling the possibility of any kind of meaningful dialog in Congress over how — and whether — government should respond to an epidemic that is killing tens of thousands of Americans every year. Anyone familiar with the NRA’s tactics over the years knows that efforts such as this video — and the nonstop Second Amendment alarmism the group peddles — are all about whipping up hysteria, resentment, and paranoia among its followers for a very specific reason: Impassioned minorities who can be mobilized very rapidly around one issue can be very effective in cowing lawmakers.
“Along these lines, here’s something to watch closely: If the NRA keeps this stuff up, how will Congressional and Senate Democrats allied with the organization react? As the First Read crew notes, there are Senators like Harry Reid, Jon Tester, and Joe Manchin. There’s also Heidi Heitkamp, who has an “A” rating from the NRA and initially labeled proposed reforms as “extreme” before reversing course under pressure and opening the door to action. There are also at least two dozen House Democrats who have received contributions from the NRA during this cycle alone. If the NRA continues resorting to tactics such as using the President’s daughters to whip up rage among its followers, it should — one hopes, anyway — alienate these Democrats and make them less responsive to NRA pressure, perhaps making the prospects for some sort of legislative action more likely. [.....]”
Um, holy crap?
First, may I ask that all 1.5M of you please call the White House right now & say THANK YOU for the Executive Orders on guns– 202-456-1111— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 16, 2013
f- him! i recently gave all my moore books, many signed by him at events i attended, to goodwill. just found my dvd boxset of his tv show “the awful truth,” and taking that there too on my next run to goodwill. maybe i should be throwing them away though so this charlatan doesn’t fool other people too, as he did me.
i was done with him the day he goes on some weird huffinton post video show a couple weeks before the election and says, “get used to saying president romney. it’s over.” this fool couldn’t have done more to try and demoralize democrats and obama supporters in that entire appearance, and now he’s going to act like he’s on our side again!?!? what a snake this guy is!
By your comment, one would draw the conclusion that you think Mr. Moore is full of shit. You naughty person.
Make that 1.5M of us.
I LOVE that the hair-on-fire phony outrage hysteria purveyors are swallowing crow. Screw them!
I will be happy if the whiny Left just STFU, so the rest of us can turn our full attention to the Right.
I am with you 100%!
I’m in and out of here so much these days, don’t know if this was covered:
Bobfr has tweeted to that effect. Can’t be referenced often enough, though.
Nope. It cannot. This ‘original intent’ b.s. would require that the great RWNJ ‘scholars’ actually, you know, research what words meant in 1789. Too much reading for them, I’m afraid.
Thanks for posting the inaugural schedule, Chips!
President Obama has yet to be inaugurated for his second game-changing term, and yet he has the GOP in a circular firing squad and the MSM who are completely stunned.
MorningJoe (brought over from previous thread):
“The House can pass comprehensive gun legislation now and have Speaker Boehner shape it, or wait two years for Speaker Pelosi to do it.”
The House can pass comprehensive gun legislation now and have Speaker Boehner shape it, or wait two years for Speaker Pelosi to do it.— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) January 16, 2013
Bob Schieffer (CBS Face the Nation):
Bob Schieffer somehow topped Chris Matthews during CBS News’s special coverage of President Obama’s gun control press conference on Wednesday, as he became the worst caricature of a foaming-at-the-mouth cheerleader for the chief executive. Schieffer lauded “one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard him [Obama] deliver”, and compared Obama’s new gun control agenda to Lyndon Johnson’s push for civil rights legislation in the 1960s.
This is too delicious. I’m just sitting back, enjoying the spectacle.
Sounds like Bob Schieffer has the right idea to me.
Can anyone tell me if the actual swearing in is towards the beginning or the end of the ceremony. Because I would love to see it but will not be anywhere near my computer untill about 12.30 eastern.
Probably close to end, then speech, but it’s anybody’s guess. I’m sure it will be posted here in full or on C-span website for later viewing. Good luck. Isn’t it a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr?
*sigh* I wish I could be in DC this weekend. Well, no matter where I am, I’ll be watching every minute.

Cute! Thanks for sharing your art!
Love that! Beautiful work, J!
[OT. Bullies 'R Cowards]:
TALLAHASSEE — Facing a highly critical group of black legislators, Gov. Rick Scott largely defended his record Tuesday but distanced himself from a controversial election law that led to fewer early-voting days and long lines.
Scott agreed with black lawmakers that the 2011 election law contributed to the chaos at the polls in November, including long lines all over the state and up to seven-hour waits in Miami-Dade. But Scott, who is seeking re-election in 2014, said it was largely a decision of the Legislature.
“It was not my bill,” Scott said. “We’ve got to make changes, I agree. … The Legislature passed it. I didn’t have anything to do with passing it.”
Scott signed the bill into law in 2011. His administration spent more than $500,000 in legal fees in a largely successful defense of the law, though a federal judge struck down new restrictions on groups that register voters.

I hope they get rid of that bastard…..
I swear jo jo! The stench from that turd wafts all the way up to Atlanta!
Gun Control Advocates: Obama’s Proposals “Unprecedented”
If Congress passes the gun legislation laid out Wednesday it could rival the Brady Act and Gun Control Act.
“We’re usually grumpy about things — we’re hard to please over here sometimes,” said Bennett. “But this covered all the bases we were hoping for.”
[Damn, he's still around??? He has a sadz re: that rule of his!]:
Dennis Hastert isn’t pleased and told Fox News Radio that Republicans are slowly losing control: “Maybe you can do it once, maybe you can do it twice, but when start making deals, when you have to get Democrats to pass the legislation, you are not in power anymore.”
A “so-called majority party that loses by over a million votes and only “wins” through extreme gerrymandering never was a party in power. It is a party that has technically more seats lead by an utter incompetent. In that situation, the smarter, more organized group has the real power, even if it technically has fewer seats. The power behind the US House “throne” is Nancy Pelosi.

Oh hell. RT @alexweprin: Just in: former U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) is joining Fox News as a paid contributor.— Simon Maloy (@SimonMaloy) January 16, 2013
Okay, maybe one comment. bwah ha ha aha !!!!
That job won’t last long…..
Well, GB, that should be the laugh of the week. The great champion of the emoprog left bought out by the GOP propaganda network. Wonder how much he sold his soul for?
they’ll be able to bond of their favorite activity…obama-bashing. a match made in heaven
he’s hired to bash the President. If anyone thinks (including clueless Dennis Kucinich) that he’ll get to say anything else, they’re deluded.
Mr. High-and-Mighty Principles. Seriously, this guy is a creep, through and through. UGH.
Clowns to the left of us, jokers to the right…
Luckily, we’re all stuck in the middle together ;)
Now I know why thoughtful people have been pointing out that the PL are in cahoots with the right wingers. I bet Dennis Kucinich will be a reliable basher of the President from the so called left.
CNN has two lovely videos of the first daughters first 4 years in the White House. It is beautiful to watch but I am not very tech savvy so I am not sure if Chips or another fan can view and share with the fan base. They are under videos and politics @ http://edition.cnn.com/video/
I just finished going through 147 emails from TOD’ers who are interested in the meet-up this Sunday
Chips, how do you do this everyday
Alycee, expect a phone call from me this evening.
Eveyone should receive an email from me regarding the details about the TOD Meet-Up by 9:00PM EST tonight.
I’m looking forward to meeting so many of YOU!!!!
p.s. Our President is an AWESOME Man!!!
I just sent you a message via Facebook.
Wow donna you are awesome yourself.. looking forward to hearing from you :)
Hey Donna, I am gonna be in DC can you add me to the list.
Starm, You’ll need to send me an email message so I can get the info to you this evening.
LOL! She said “I’m looking forward to meeting MANY of you” Watch out — some of y’all might get sent the wrong directions or something! :-) :-) :-)
Can anyone give me a heads up as to which station would probably be the best to tune into for the entire inauguration ceremonies? I’m gonna have to TiVo most or all of it because our Martin Luther King Day event is taking place that day. Like all of us, I’d like to view it on a station with the least snarky comments possible.
Oh and get this…our governor, Suzanna Martinez (gag!), wants to be present to give out our student community service award! Now mind you, when she came into office, she said that she would work with us (NAACP)and include the branch with information and meetings. That was in 2009 and we haven’t heard a peep out of her until now…now that her and the repugs got their asses kicked in the election here in New Mexico. She’s saying a number of placating things now. Anyway, we decided that she won’t be getting the spotlight…our event chair and the branch president will present the award to the winning student and Suzanna will just have to stand there and look stupid.
Thank you. I typed in their names and got the videos. Sasha’s dimples are so cute…..they are so different from four years ago. My niece is Sasha’s age and I still see them both as little girls. Malia has blossomed into a beautiful graceful young lady.
Your local PBS station will do a great job. Here our listing says program begins at 8:00am, that is PST. In 2009, I only watched tis channel and was pleased with the broadcast.
House will vote to reverse pay raise for federal workers
01/16/13 03:56 PM ET
The 0.5 percent pay increase is the first across-the-board cost-of-living adjustment since a pay freeze was ordered in 2010.…
That Dog will not hunt!
Thanks for the schedule Chips, I followed the link and was able to get tickets for the parade. Thanks for all you do everyday. Peace
[From Joy-Ann Reid on B. Todd Jones]:
[.....] Jones is currently the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, and has served in both positions — essentially serving at the ATF part-time — since he was named the acting director last August. He became that state’s first black U.S. attorney in 1998, after being recommended by the late Sen. Paul Wellstone. President Obama renominated him in 2009 to the U.S. attorney post he had held under President Bill Clinton.
According to his agency bio, Jones is a former Marine infantry officer, who also served as both a prosecutor and defense counsel in courts martial cases. He graduated from Macalester College in 1979 and the University of Minnesota Law School in 1983 before enlisting. Jones left active duty in 1989, but was called back for Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Jones would take over an agency that has been depleted over the years. Republicans in Congress have routinely sought to curtail the agency’s funding, and the ATF has seen a series of staff reductions that has left it with fewer than 2,500 agents nationwide as of December.
At the same time, Republicans have sharply criticized the agency for failing to live up to its mandates, and blamed it for failed operations like the Fast and Furious anti-gun trafficking program, in which a border patrol agent was killed. Jones took over the agency in the midst of the Fast and Furious uproar, saying his goal was to help ATF “hit the reset button.”
Thank you for inauguration schedule information. Hadn’t seen it yet. Printing out parade maps. Can’t wait! Second time around; maybe cold, maybe not, but we feel privileged to be able to show up and breathe the air with hundreds of thousands of our friends and fellow travelers. Such a good, warm, generous spirit last time. More of same, + Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams!
