Just one question, I have been steering clear of TV Pundits….does anyone on any station have anything supportive about the President that is fixing the last TWO administrations messes? Are we Americans that dumb to not know what this man has done for our Country?

We do have a fabulous 1st couple!!!

Serious question, why is Chris Christie the only politician who has spoken out publicly against the NRA’s ad with the President’s children?? Where are all of the dems in Congress who never miss an opportunity to get in front of a camera to undermine the President?

    • January 18, 2013 at 1:51 pm

They are looking over their shoulder and fiercely protecting their A+++++ NRA rating. Worthless critters. They are the reason PBO called off the power of OFA after 2008 election cuz they complained. But now we are wiser. Organizing for Action will put fire under them like they’ve never seen. We the people WILL defend Pres Obama. We have his back.

The msm fails to mention that the dems didn’t want “all those people” calling their offices and bothering them. I’m glad OFA will be lighting them up.

Andrea Mitchell is doing snippets from her coverage and flashbacks of past inaugurals and events surrounding them. I was first struck by her brunette helmet hair of the 80’s. Trust me, she needed to go blonde. She also showed interviewing then 1st term Senator Obama on Bush’s pick for Secty of Defense who said then, a president should be able to choose who he wants to fill his cabinet position. She also interviewed W’s speech writer, who was very sympathetic to PBO’s trying to work in a hostile climate of ‘pubs.

What also stuck with me was that for the second time in as many days, Ms Mitchell mentioned the documentary that aired last week about the meeting the Repub leaders held on the night of PBO’s inauguration. She acted as if she’d never heard of the meeting or who was in attendance. Both times she asked the guest did they know about it, and how was PBO suppose to govern after that. She asked could anyone blame him for bypassing them. Now, here’s where I go, ‘WHAT!!!!!’ I know about that meeting way over here in Cookemomdom, and she’s sitting in the center of the media news, and she doesn’t know this. Maybe when you get to the level of on-air punditry, you really don’t have to know about anything that’s going on around you. You just show up for work, talk about what the producer says is the topic of the day, and let your guest just say whatever they want unchallenged. How can you challenge them if you don’t even know what they’re talking about? I may be wrong, but she seemed genuinely surprised.

Well Cookemon, three possibilities: 1) She’s lying, actually knew about the conspiracy and is artfully pretending innocence; 2) She deliberate sticks her head in a deep hole that only contains GOP talking points and so never knows anything the GOP doesn’t tell her; or 3) People on TOD are smarter and better informed than anyone in the beltway media as well as half the US population. They’re all appealing, but I do like #3.

        January 18, 2013 at 2:04 pm

I wager all of the above is true. Andrea Mitchell is a liar who is also bought and paid for by the corporate GOP hacks to spew their talking points, and ALL TODers are smarter and better informed than her/Media.

      • 28 cookemom
        January 18, 2013 at 2:11 pm

Well, #3 is a definite and a given. I think it’s because once she moved up to a big title, do nothing position, she doesn’t feel the need to actually know anything. It’s like she shows up to work and is given a script to act out for an hour, then it’s off for high tea and spa treatments. I really think she may feel like she’s done her time with the grunge work of investigating, and is OK with being spoon fed.

That’s why as head of MSNBC’s Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, she followed $arah Pay’em on her book tour. I wrote her an email asking her what does that assignment have to do with foreign affairs, was it because $arah could see Russia from her house? I didn’t get a response, but within a few days she said that she was returning to the foreign affairs desk at MSNBC. I probably wasn’t, but I’m taking credit for her coming to her senses. I may send her another email asking her if there’s anything else I can enlighten her on.

I suspect she was genuinely surprised. She’s not an investigative reporter so she doesn’t investigate. Sadly, investigative reporters are very thin on the groiund these days. I blame Obama.

Rev Al Knew about had Newt Gingrich on in June of 2012 and asked him about it on MSNBC. Chuck Tood knew about and has had Mann and Ornstein on his show. It is not new. She is pretending. Thomas Mann and Norm Ornstein are Brookings and AEI think tank fellows. They were stable on Sunday Shows and since they wrote their book in early 2012…..The Cablers, and Sunday Shows have banned them. These 98% Journos who are not minorities covering pres Obama have been complicit in the corrosion of our body politic. And the media looking the other way and using the right wing talking points for every question asked a Dem is part of the continued problems.

I don’t think she does anything but the hour at the desk in front of the camera. I don’t think she has a clue, nor cares what’s going on around her. I think she lives in a bubble of her own choosing and is oblivious to stuff she doesn’t want to know about. At least maybe, oblivious to what it may mean at a deeper level.

I also noticed her surprise at the Republican meeting. Her primary interest seems to be cultivating and maintaining her contacts with little interest in policy or actual politics. Her interview with Gov. Bob “Vaginal Probe” McDonnell (R-VA) was pathetic. McConnell signed a bill lifting a limit of one gun purchase per month to an unlimited number. No question about that. Virginia gun shows are notorious for being the source of illegal guns transported to eastern cities. McConnell said he did not believe a lack of background checks was a problem, and she had no follow up about the reputation of Virginia gun shows. “We have to leave it there”, was her response.

Yes, she is the ‘we have to leave it there’ queen. No matter the subject matter, she’s either expressing shock or indifference, nothing in between. It’s so apparent that she is just filling in an otherwise empty hour of her day, she might as well just look down at her watch, gather her things, and say, ‘well alrighty then, I’m outta here, see yous guys tomorrow’.

Good morning Chips and TOD family. Can we buy the Washingtonian somewhere. I have to have a copy of it. I love FLOTUS’s new look and PBO’s official picture.

I just finished watching last night The Last Word. I hope Chips features his Rewrite in one of the posts. I really feel we need to go after all the NRA board members, they all have blood on their hands. I havI e always admired Tom Selleck, but he has lost it all now.

I also wanted to tell everyone that our friends that we visited, he is retired from the govenment and still does work for them in his field. He has put me on his email list and I am getting very interested news. Haven’t had time to really sort thru it all but I will start sharing it after I get unpacked. I hope while I am watching the TV I can read thru it all and share it. His specialty is preparing for all kinds of terrorism and disasters here in the US.

Finally I am at home all day and can finish unpacking and do some laundry. It’s amazing how your house gets to be a mess when you unpack from a trip.

    Have a great day everyone.

Lawrence’s NRA and Tom Selleck ‘Rewrite’ was fantastic. People like Tom Selleck and others who are board members, spokespeople, and public faces of the NRA should be shamed everyday for their part in producing, marketing, and lobbying for lax gun regulations and peddling weapons of murder. They have all been strangely silent since the tragedy in Newtown occurred. After hearing Noah Posner’s mother describe how the Bushmaster AR 15 blew off the lower half of her son’s face and blew off chunks of his body, anyone who still sits on the board of the NRA, promotes their agenda, and collects funds from them lacks humanity.

    [From Greg Sargent. Hmmmm...]:

Big news. Eric Cantor has just made it official: The GOP leadership is prepared to agree to a three month debt ceiling hike. This is a major de-escalation of the crazy and effectively means Republicans have all but taken the threat of default off the table completely.

    /////

The GOP will now stage the battle to get the spending cuts it wants around the threat of a government shutdown. Remember, GOP aides have explicitly conceded that instigating a confrontation will be necessary in order to placate House conservatives and Tea Partyers who wanted to flirt with default in order to get their way, but will ultimately be forced to accept the fact that this just ain’t gonna happen.

    /////

And make no mistake: Just because the GOP blinked in the debt ceiling fight doesn’t mean the battle over the government shutdown will be easy. As Steve Benen notes, the possibility of a shutdown — and the coming expiration of the sequester — are real threats that pack a real punch.

But the GOP leadership has signaled that for all practical purposes, it is ready to remove the threat of default from the discussions. That’s very good news for the country. Coming after the GOP cave on the fiscal cliff, that means the score right now is: GOP hostage taking, zero; refusing to buckle to GOP hostage taking, two.

    .

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2013/01/18/gop-takes-off-the-suicide-bomb-vest/

    • January 18, 2013 at 2:20 pm

The thing is, the GOP really has no leverage in the govt shutdown either. Either they agree to Obama’s plans, or the defense industry gets savaged. And a debt ceiling hike for 3 months? Oh no no no. Their masters won’t like that either.

        THE WHITE HOUSE

        __________________________________ _____
        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
        January 18, 2013
        Statement by the Press Secretary

The President has made clear that Congress has only two options: pay the bills they have racked up, or fail to do so and put our nation into default. We are encouraged that there are signs that Congressional Republicans may back off their insistence on holding our economy hostage to extract drastic cuts in Medicare, education and programs middle class families depend on. Congress must pay its bills and pass a clean debt limit increase without further delay. And as he has said, the President remains committed to further reducing the deficit in a balanced way.

See, what they fail to realize, PBO is not going to debate the debt ceiling now or in three months. So it’s up to them, they can delay for three months, or for eternity, it’s up to them. PBO has said they must do their job. That job is to pass legislation to pay their authorized spending bills or default. Cantor and the rest of the numbnuts think by pushing this off so it lines up with the sequester issue, it will make PBO falter. Heeelllllloooo teabuttbaggers, read your own tea leaves, it ain’t gonna happen.

I really, really object to the tin foil brigade as the Tea Party. There are only two parties represented in Congress, Republicans and Democrats. To give them a formal name legitimizes a crazy faction of the Republican party and let’s the establishment wing of the party to pretend that the teabutts aren’t really in their party. They are self-named teabaggers and should be referred to as such.

      [From Bob Cesca]:

[.....] I can’t discern what their endgame is because from my perspective this is a clear signal that they aren’t willing to actually default on our national debt.

Several weeks ago skeptical parties on the left were criticizing the president for supposedly giving up his leverage to win the battle over taxes while ignoring the debt ceiling, but it seems clear now that all he really had to do was go on national TV and explain to the American public — and some sitting congresscritters — what the debt ceiling really is. And this line from Eric Cantor that we “must pay our bills” is the giveaway. [.....]

Yes, Stephen said that traumatizing event led to his no fears adult approach to life. I think he meant that after that, nothing else seemed frightening. And I think there were 11 kids in the family, leaving his mom alone to parent and provide, often talks about her piling and stacking them all in the station wagon for outings.

It was even more devastating for Stephen because he was 11 when they died. These two brothers were the closest to Stephen in age and once they died, there was a seven year gap between him and the second youngest surviving sibling. And his other siblings were already out of the house. Stephen spent a lot time alone with his mother as she raised him.

If there is a dinner party, the chef who is lucky enough to get the Obama visit could soon be working for the Administration: That’s the case for the five chefs and chef/restaurant owners who have hosted the First Couple on Mrs. Obama’s special day. All have participated in Mrs. Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, or been named as members of the State Department’s American Chef Corps–or both. And one of the chefs helped the President raise millions for his reelection campaign. Clearly, Mrs. Obama’s dinners were memorable.

Or she’s used her birthday to woo culinary foot soldiers, because the First Couple has visited plenty of restaurants separately and together, and not everyone winds up on the White House shortlist. [.....]

    Rehearsals for Inauguration 2013!

  29. January 18, 2013 at 3:02 pm

    Good afternoon, TODville.

Was I ever surprised to see someone I haven’t thought about in 30 years on the front page of the local paper this morning under this headline:
    Inauguration Anticipation
    Constituents pack for second inauguration

Turns out that the blonde on the front page was my then-boyfriend’s boss. Now she’s a die-hard PBO fan and is going to the Inauguration and the balls!
