So excited! Glad to spend it with TOD.
And first too! Chips you are awesome. And this community is awesome. Looking forward to spending the next two days celebrating. Took Monday off to enjoy the fruits of our labors. Glad OFA will be independent and have all the stalwarts on the Board (Plouffe, Cutter, Messina, Smoot, O’Malley, Carson)
My beloved Taiping, looking forward to sharing these very beautiful celebrations with you!!
Congrats on 1st taiping!!!

Way to go taiping1 and vitaminlover. I was watching idiots shooting guns on last thread!
So, completely OT, but ever since I stopped drinking cocktails and switched exclusively to wine, my stomach has shrunk. #IMustBeDoingSomethingRight
Ah, so that’s the secret? Still drinking both. #IMustBeDoingSomethingCompletelyWrong
Bravo…you must be doing something right. Keep it up LL! :)
Aretha and that unforgetable hat and singing the National Anthem.

Night: may angels and sweet spirits watch over you and give you good dreams. Tomorrow we celebrate again.
IMHO, cheney signaled the GOP it was ok to disrespect PBO, by showing up in a wheel chair at the 2009 inaugural. No way did he hurt his back moving (as if people at that level would be lifting boxes). He did it to gin up the racists; no need to stand for “that one”. I believe that was the start of their evil tactics.
I agree wholeheartedly with you. Cheney is a fucking punk.
More likely it was the overt expression of their evil which was on display from that day on. The corruption and desire to divide and destroy started on November 4th, if not earlier, perhaps even as BHO won the nomination. We do not need to judge these people: their own souls will have to judge their actions and stand as witness to their own cruelty. They will then be require to make amends. It will take a long long time, and many many reincarnations. If they are lucky, they will redeem themselves. We do not need to judge.
Good point Pamela. I apologize for judging; I kept this comment inside for these past 4 years and just had to let it out.
I have no problem judging him for the flaming heartless &^%$@$% that he is. No qualms at all. I’m just not that big. I admit it.
Sometimes I wonder where my head lives — I’d never thought of the wheelchair that way. But you’re probably right. Darth Cheney is evil.
[T]he arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
I’m grateful for that.
Standing right there with you, watching it bend more and more every day.
Thank you Chips…We Love You Back:-)
Thank you Chips!!! I’ve lost count of the times I’ve watched that video …. and will be watching it many years from now!!
I am sitting at my laptop and my cat HAS to have a chair ALL to herself next to the heater while I blog and watch the 2009 inaugural. Life is Good!
Of course she does! :)
We are merely our cats’ staff.
I know….she’s up stairs now pouting about something……I’ll have go up there an apologize for breathing.
Roberts F up will go down in history.
But never, NEVER EVER OVERSHADOW the significance and triumph of the American Dream personified by PBO’s election.
(no disrespect 0388jojothecat, you’re right in what you said.)
I appreciate your comments that what he did will never overshadow the election, and re-election of PBHO. Thank you.
Jojo, you are correct. Have you read the book, “The Oath.” Get a copy, if you so desire. There is a great reading about this very incident. The first ten pages will lift you out of your seat. We have not mistaken these people for their wrong(that is me putting it mildly) actions towards President Obama.
However, I do believe in my sixty plus year old body and mind that what we have seen in the last four years and even prior to POB’s running, he has Not been treated fairly and respectful, and they set out to make sure that history will carry these ugly stains in its books. However, POB’s brilliance and deep loving disposition will erase their little minds to zero. We will continue to pray that POB will always keep his steps ordered in a graceful spiritual belief that he carries in his heart, and he will be fine. He knows his enemies now, and he turns them over to the Fair Judge. Sentences will be handed down, I do believe.
I am not a big fan of Jeffrey Toobin, however he did a nice job on the book. A must read for those who love the law and care about how the Supreme Court rules and operate in our nation.HZ

So looking forward to tomorrow! Going to turn in so that I can be up at six and on the road by seven. Coming down for the meet & greet gives me a good excuse for hitting the commissary, MCX, and the CostCo in Pentagon City where they have a larger book section (and two percent less tax than PA). I hope the parking garages on Independence Ave are open tomorrow. Look forward to meeting some of you folks tomorrow. Good night all.

The Inaugural Guide To Hometown Washington D.C. buzzfeed.com/johnstanton/th…— The lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) January 20, 2013
My second fav part of the 2009 inauguration: The departure of the Bushes. I seemed to take them forever to leave.
They were very nice and friendly to the Obama’s because I think GWB really like him and after all, his daughters voted for Obama (from what I read don’t know if that’s true). GWB was down right rude to Al Gore after Gore lost the election but it could be that Al is a jerk which it appears to be from him selling out to the highest bidder.
You are right. Also then Sen. Obama talked about his failed policies on the campaign trail but he never put down the person that is GWB and always spoke nicely of him when speaking about the man during the campaign. This while everyone was saying the most horrible things about GWB. I think that unlike DarthCheney, Bush appreciated it.
Also his daughters took the girls around the residency and treated them very nicely. I will always appreciate then for that.
Now as to his failed policies and the way he ruined our standing in the world…..
I believe GWB KNEW he (PBO) was telling the truth and he looked glad to be leaving the place in good hands.
I watched it again tonight after coming in, and I felt the same about the departure of GWB and Cheney. No matter how graciou VPBiden and Dr. Biden tried to give them a lovely departure, both Mr. and Mrs. Cheney were cold, in my observation. There was just a darkness to that departure of those two.
However, I felt that the departure of Mrs. Bush and GW. was much more gracious and very becoming. GW hugged POB with a very close contact hug and he also hugged FLOTUS with a very tenden and sincere hug, in my opinion. There was a connection there on each participant, in my opinion.
I felt that while POB and Former President GW and Mrs. Bush were standing on the stairs while the Bidens went down to say goodbye to Cheney, GW seemed to be telling POB what happened to Cheney as far as the wheelchair. I do not mean that in a disprectful or mean manner, but if you look at their lips as they are speaking, you can almost make out the conversation. GW seem to be of the impression that Cheney was not being up front. Plus he and Cheney did not see eye to eye during those last days even to that day about the pardon for Libby. There was a lot going on there.HZ
Good night all, had to step away for a tad, but wishing you all wonderful Inauguration Days — yep 2 days of joy! Celebrate:

It would be so awesome if this was the song PBO and Miche danced to at the ball. It’s one of my faves.
I’m in heaven
And my heart beats
So that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find
The happiness I seek
When we’re out together
Dancing cheek to cheek
Oddly enough, my favorite Fred Astaire movie was his role in “On the Beach”.
Seriously?! I’ve never seen it and had to Wiki it. Really? Dancing and singing Freddy was in a post apocalyptic drama? Good grief! And I thought I’d seen all his movies!!
He was wonderful in it. Especially his last scene in the movie.
Wow. Maybe ill see it.

Hi my dear one. I am too excited to go to sleep. I just went downstair to make sure that my kitchen is in a tidy up way. My mother and grandparents always required that of us as we were growing up, so I can always find something to place neater in the kitchen.
I am doing fine. My gut is showing off, but what is new there, so I just allow it to show off until I want to say, Enough!!!!! Meds., but my meds are getting low, so I am in a little pain tonight. Crawling online to say ‘Good Night’ and that I haven’t a clue what’s going on. I got in a while ago but had to clear up some stuff before signing on. All I’m going to say right now is being on vacation does not lend itself to keeping up with information like TOD provides, so I’m hopelessly clueless. No one updates me while I’m walking/being driven around and I don’t hear any news at all.
BTW, which of you told PBO I would be passing by his home today? And why didn’t he want to speak to me? Five minutes or so away from the WH at Union Station RED tour bus line, anxious to get moving to see if the Prezzie was home, the operator tells us the next bus would be late because traffic had just been disrupted for the President’s departure. I don’t know, such a nicely timed departure makes me wonder. Needless to say, he did not return before my tour was finished. ;) ;)

lonely woman age 42 decided that it was time to get married so she put an ad in the local paper that read::
1: must be in the age group 40
2: not beat me
3: must not run around on me
4: must still be good in bed
5: all applicants please apply in person.
On the second day the doorbell rung….much to her surprised she opened the door to find a gray haired man sitting in a wheel chair without arms and legs.
The old lady said your not really asking me to consider you are you? Just look at you…you have no legs!!! The old man smiled, therefore I can’t run around on you!!!
You don’t have no hands either!
Again the old man smiled nor can I beat you!
She raised an eyebrow and gazed intently. Are you still good in bed?
With that, the old man leaned back with a big smile on his face and said I rang the doorbell didn’t I!!!! :-):-)

1. When is Inauguration Day?
Inauguration day is Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, which is also Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The constitution mandates that inauguration take place on Jan. 20, but because Jan. 20 falls on a Sunday this year, a small private ceremony will be held on Sunday ahead of the public ceremony on Monday.
2. Where and when is the swearing-in?
Times for Vice President Joe Biden’s and President Obama’s swearing-in have not yet been released. The swearing in takes place on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. After the swearing in, there is traditionally a luncheon for the president in the Capitol attended by members of Congress. The Inaugural parade follows the luncheon and runs from the Capitol down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
3. Who plans the inauguration?
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies plans the ceremony at the Capitol. That committee is comprised of Sen. Charles E. Schumer, Chairman, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Sen. Lamar Alexander, Speaker of the House John A. Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. The JCCIC is also responsible for the swearing-in ceremonies and the inaugural luncheon. The parade and other inauguration events outside the Capitol are organized by Joint Task Force-National Capital Region with participants selected by the Presidential Inaugural Committee. The official inaugural balls are planned by the Presidential Inaugural Committee. Read more
4. What are the inauguration themes?
“Faith in America’s Future” is the theme selected for this year by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. The Presidential Inaugural Committee theme is “Our People, Our Future.” Read more
5. How do you get tickets to the inauguration?
Members of Congress receive an allotment of free tickets to distribute to the public. You should contact your Representative or Senators to inquire about securing tickets. Click the link below to find out who represents you. You do not need tickets to view the inaugural parade. Read more
6. How do I follow inauguration news on social media?
The Presidential Inauguration committee is tweeting from @obamainaugural. That account has been promoting the hashtag #inaug2013. And you can click the link below to follow our inauguration Twitter list. Read more
7. How do you get tickets to the official inaugural balls?
Dancing the night away with an evening of inaugural glamour is going to be harder this year than it was last time around. In 2009, the Presidential Inaugural Committee designated 10 balls as “official” balls, and President Obama attended all of them. This time, there are only two that the Obamas are scheduled to attend, and the only one the public could buy tickets for sold out prematurely because of a Ticketmaster glitch. There are plenty of unofficial inaugural events, including self-described “balls” at nightclubs and lounges, but you don’t always know who’s behind them, and they’re often not that much different from a Friday night at the club. If you want something approaching the inaugural ball experience of your dreams, your best bet is getting tickets for a ball hosted by one of the many state societies based in Washington. Going Out Guide has a list of recommended State society balls. Read more
8. What is the National Day of Service?
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will continue a tradition they began before the 2009 swearing-in by participating in volunteer projects on the “National Day of Service” on Saturday, Jan. 19. The first couple is encouraging Americans to participate in service projects on that day. Click the link below to see where you can volunteer. Read more
9. What other official and unofficial events are happening in Washington around the inauguration?
Our Going Out Gurus are posting the concerts and cultural events happening in the Washington area around the inaugural. You’ll find their posts on the entertainment options below. Read more
10. How should I get to and from the inaugural festivities?
Washington’s transportation systems, including streets, metro and bus lines, are all drastically different on inauguration day due to security precautions and to accommodate large crowds. Dr. Gridlock has the latest information on street closures, Metro lines and bus routes. Even if you aren’t heading to the inauguration, check Dr. Gridlock to find out how your route anywhere in Washington could be altered on Inauguration Day. 11. What can and can’t I bring with me to attend the inauguration ceremony?
Many items are prohibited at inauguration events and on Metro — including balloons and coolers. Here’s what you can and can’t bring with you, along with our top 10 things you must know before heading out. Read more
12. Will my cell phone work on Inauguration Day?
Wireless traffic congestion was a big problem four years ago, when 1.8 million people packed the Mall for the inauguration and called the folks back home with what are now antiquated cellphones. Less than half that many people are expected this time, but they will be armed with much more powerful smartphones and tablets, some of which require more than 120 times the bandwidth of a basic cellphone. So phone companies are setting up an extensive network of temporary towers and other equipment the length of the Mall to handle the explosion in wireless traffic. But even with the increases, the companies said, there could be delays and glitches. An AT&T official urged people to text whenever they can, “save then send,” or use WiFi hotspots. Sending video uses the most bandwidth, he said, and texting and tweeting take the least. The official Presidential Inauguration Committee iPhone app features maps and other information about inaugural activities that is available offline once downloaded. Read more
