Hiya everyone, sorry I’ve only been able to drop in and out today, soooooo much to catch up on with you all. I spotted a gazillion beautiful photos from the inauguration that I didn’t post yesterday, so will try to get around to it asap. Will try to post photos and video from the Prayer Service a little later too. Talk soon!
Thank you, Chips!
Love the papers around the world. Reminds me so much of 2008. Thanks for all you do Chips and…..Congrats on 1st!!!
Chips – you’ve more than surpassed our wildest dreams with all the amazing posts in the last 48 hrs! :) I couldn’t imagine what it would be like having to rely on the snarky MSM for information about the Inaugural weekend. I have TOD and I’m forever grateful to you for that.
Chips you are AMAZING!
That is all
Back to work (wah)…..
Chips, you have more than outdone yourself. Do you need a well-desrved break for a few hours?
You deserve to take it easy today. You did a fantastic job yesterday.
I would love to see more international ones…
but I appreciate all you do
Chipsticks, Just wanted to join in simply saying THANK YOU!
Thank you so much nathkatun, although I have a trillion billion good things to catch up with on the blog, hopefully I will do by the weekend! Thank you again.
Chips, you have done a fantastic job all weekend!!!!!!
In the newspapers of Portugal and Netherland, there are two men lurking the President from behind that I seem to recognize for their expertise at obstruction. Oh, it is Orange Man and his rival.
Yes, I was especially annoyed to see Cantor’s head popping up everywhere. He’s like the unwanted guest at the wedding.
Love those first pages! The world watches … and loves our President!
GM Chipsticks! I’m loving the morning papers!
Lord have Mercy.
I just can’t keep up with Chips. You simply rock.
GM all. I tried early this AM to catch up…..was at Inaugural Number 6 and had to go back to sleep. I just came in about 30Mins ago….and just got on the Newer Stuff.
I am thrilled to pieces. The Job done by Chips is deliciously fantastic. Love it. I will enjoy every minute of it all…..no matter how long it takes me to go through them all.
Thank You, Chips.
Just finished reading Poerce’s comments on the female SS agent in the first picture. It is great. (BTW, she’s soemwhat hot, of you know what I mean). http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/blonde-secret-service-agent-15008233
That was a great article. I noticed her right away and wondered about her. So thankful for the SS.
Blondie and Silver Fox were behind POTUS and FLOTUS at the church service too. They walked out right with them when they left early too. They do give me great security and comfort. Although, I noticed Michelle just couldn’t walk straight out….she stopped and spoke with people on her way…….she loves people and people love her.
The service was so powerful. My tears have flown so much this weekend but they are tears of joy and strength. Thank you Chips for all you do here. It is so important.
First to get there, last to leave……story of my life…….just wanted to say again how moving that service was….should be required watching by all….might solve the Nation’s problems….
I’m hoping we can get some DVD’s of this entire inaugural event.

It was a nice church service this morning.
I’m sorry I missed it. I’m always two hours later, but I stayed up too late and I’m still dragging from this bug.

Thank you so much.
Thank you, Alycee – I missed part of it!
Thank you for this link. I listened to the service from the sermon on. Like those on the previous thread, I was so happy with what the preacher said. So glad someone actually THANKED the president for what he’s done and is doing. His message is the kind we hear each Sunday from our pastor in a Congretational/UCC church. “Justice, Kindness, Walk humbly……” As he said, we will be judged by what we do for “the least of these.” Not by how much money we make or how much power we have.
I loved the two hymns the congregation sang too…..I know those well.
Hey everyone. So Great to get a First glance at all These great pictures. My City is a total emervrncy Zone Since yesterday (BTW the weird Spelling is cause my iPhone keeps insisting on German.) there was a Fire at the Main net provider’s Building and everything Crashed. In other words i didn’t See Anything of yesterdays Coverage yesterday Hope you are all having Fun.
niliathiel, this must be so frustrating. I hope things get better soon. God bless.

Thanks for the great collection of headlines. It’s always great to see how the rest of the world looks at us, especially our political process.
Looks like we got a bonus from the Irish Herald. They’re headline focuses on the the President’s upcoming visit Northern Ireland in June for the G8 summit. The Kennedy family will be there during that time to open a visitor center in honor of JFK and it looks like they’re hoping the President will be apart of that. That’ll be fun to watch.
I’m hoping that, too, on behalf of my own paternal Irish ancestors!

thanks for this. I adore her older brother who always believed his sister would one day achieve great things…and she has. I love seeing him and hearing his comments.
One word I would use to describe the Robinson faily is “balance.” She and her brother just have such a balanced approach to their lives, and she seems to be building this into her darling daughters too.
From what I’ve been reading in various places, Malia and Sasha were quite the stars of the inauguration events. We’ve seen the so little, and now to see these two beautiful young women emerge…..wow! They are adorable.
Watching Donna Brazile on C-Span2 at the winter meeting of the DNC. They are in the middle of nominating Debbie W-S as chair. Donna said Debbie was “willing to go on FOX, while I just wanted to look like a fox.” Ha! Donna is also giving kudos to the President for his Second Inaugural Address. Glad I’m watchin’!
Debbie was re-elected, unanimously, of course. As Donna said, “Hallelujah!” Here’s Debbie now …

Stand & talk or Vote …
Hi @SenatorReid Senators must stand & speak or VOTE. Filibuster abuse by the insurgent GOP has harmed millions of Americans. Stop them, Now.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) January 22, 2013
Shooting at a Texas community college. One person in custody. No details on who the person is or the extent of any injuries as a result of the shooting.
I just heard that as I was reading about that horrible shooting in N.M. where a 15 yr. old boy used his father’s guns, including the Newtown style assault rifle, to shoot and kill him, his mother, his brother and 2 young sisters. Father is a former pastor with a criminal past, guns may have been purchased by friends and given or sold to him, or purchased at gun shows with no background check required. Kid had also planned to go to Wal Mart and fire away until he was killed by law enforcement. And latest on Tx. campus shooting—-multiple people shot, college near Houston. One or more airlifted to hospital. Campus told to take shelter.
Again—-this is the most pressing issue of this time.
Barbara wants action!
That means no more stealth filibusters. If you want to filibuster in the Senate, you should be on floor making your case. Show up or shut up— Barbara Mikulski (@SenatorBarb) January 22, 2013
AMEN, sister. I just called Reid’s office. Was on hold quite awhile but was determined to not leave a message. Basically, my message to Reid was: If you don’t change the filibuster, you are, number 1, totally and completely betraying Pres. Obama and all those things you said about him yesterday meant NOTHING. Number 2, you are a coward, plain and simple. I then repeated those points and did it very firmly.
Also called Lamar Alexander’s office and said that on the face of his words–sounded good. However, a big however, they were totally hypocritical. I repeated some of his words, ie. “no mob, no coup….” Then, I talked about Jan. 20, 2009 (and pointed out that Corker was part of that meeting). I also stressed the part of his comments about “living with the results of the election” and said the R’s did not do that in 2008 and everything points to the fact that they won’t do so this time. I even talked about what is happening in the states and that in a sense, there are coups taking places…..reminded the guy how many more votes (House) the D’s got than the R’s. I pointed out that the people are not stupid……we know exactly what is happening and we want what PO talked about–unity and moving the country forward.
Agree @SenatorBarb Senators must stand & speak or VOTE. Filibuster abuse by the insurgent GOP has harmed millions of Americans. Stop them.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) January 22, 2013
Latest out of harry reid is that we will have fillibuster reform in 24-36 hours. Attaboy, Senator!
cool. I tweeted my senators today to support him.
Taught my classes this morning, then came home to find these riches! Thanks to Chips for all the wonderful work she has done. I LOVE reading and watching and listening to everything posted. This has been a most wonderful weekend. Sharing it with everyone here just multiplies the delight.

Pictures show people on the ground and students asked to take shelter if they are on campus and to stay away if they are not on campus. Lone Star College North Campus. Conditions unknown of anyone involved. One person is detained, not sure if it is the shooter. No SWAT teams visible, but EMS teams working on victims. People are being taking away on stretchers
Harris County in Texas. Hospital has sent Life Flight to pick up at least one patient. ‘Shelter in Place’ is message from the school. Not sure if that means school is on lock-down.
yes that is what shelter in place…lockdown on inside
I have a cousin and his wife who live in Texas, and both teach at universities. Was holding my breath to hear which college. Get rid of the guns, America! It could be your cousin – or mine! It’s not always “the other guy.”
JEEZE…this country has gone f’ing crazy…..just crazy….so scary
Shooting at Texas College….details are sketchy
This is LIVE! PBO & FLOTUS surprising WH tourists
Bo is there too!
Lawd I’d have to back up and run to get my naughty mat. Either that or just make a mess of myself standing upright. Too cool!!
I had hoped to get tickets for the White House tour. I fear I would not have survived the experience, if I’d turned a corner to find FLOTUS and POTUS (and Bo) standing there…
A second suspect has been seen running from the campus toward a sub-division housing complex. One victim is a woman. One man is seen handcuffed to a stretcher. Not sure if suspects was from campus or from outside campus. Police have spread out, still looking for second suspect
MSNBC…interviewing someone by way of phone….feels wrong to be interviewing her….am i over reacting to this…
Why? They always ask the public to call in to give whatever info they can in these kind of tragedies.
she was so distraught and they kept asking her questions…they did not seemed to be concerned about whatever trauma she might have hadvherself…i muted the TV
Police still searching for 2nd suspect, one suspect in custody. How many more times can we tolerate this? This is sick. Traumatizing students, everyone/anyone seemingly at risk at any time. Texas is a conceal/carry state. Because it loves guns and thinks everyone should have one on them at all times.
Their conceal carry law doesn’t include college campuses. Get ready to hear that had it been a conceal carry on the campus, it wouldn’t have happened.
This is the 4th shooting on a college campus since Jan 1st this year.

2 people said to have gotten into an argument in the campus library—–I would assume students——and pulled out their guns and started shooting away—-the new way to settle an argument—–even tho their conceal/carry laws supposedly don’t allow guns on campus. Guess those shooters didn’t pay attention to that law exception.
Guns in the library. Wonderful world we live in. Back in the day you weren’t allowed to even whisper in a library let alone argue and get into a shooting match.
I got kicked out once for chewing gum.
Speaking as a public librarian, times have changed. We still try to maintain a quiet atmosphere, but a certain level of noise is allowed. But trust me, every time I kick out someone who’s causing a disturbance, for a moment I wonder if he’ll come back with a gun.
No danger shall come near you,LL!
Hey, Republicans in Congress, how about some fucking emergency gun legislation now, today, instead of trying to take down Democrats and our President? Get your asses working for the children of America. It’s our CHILDREN in these colleges, high schools, and elementary schools. Where are your priorities? Don’t you care about our children? Have you lost your souls?
you damn right J….ENOUGH!
Well, the exit polls in Israel show Bibi losing ground to the center-left. We’ll see what that actually means once votes are counted.
Wow, can we dream ? I have been concerned because I’ve read some articles in the last few weeks that predicted come gains for the extreme right….
AP is reporting that Bibi won.
But it’s a coalition government. Depends on how everything sorts out.
And according to the BBC, Bibi is going to seek an alliance with a party even more revanchist than his own. I think we can expect a third Intifada.
About that thing about all that is needed are “good guys with guns”(NRA)——-guess not—–

My cousin and his wife are professors at separate Texas universities – he emailed, “Yes, the shooting was on a campus about a half hour south of my campus, north of Houston. I guess it can happen anywhere.” Thank God he and his wife are okay – we lost his one and only older brother when he was 16 (back in the 1950s) to a sudden, natural death, and I’m not ready to lose any more of my wonderful cousins. Or yours.
One thing that seems to be happening is that people are starting to tally these events instead of treating each one as a discrete, independent event. Awareness is being raised, and people are becoming conscious of the big pictures. The ones that are intellectually able to, that is.
Why does PBO have to compromise? Seems to me the GOP have been the unequivocal party of NO!
I agree, I agree. It hasn’t been POTUS obstructing for four years. It’s been the GOP.
O/T: Back to the prayer service this a.m. I followed comments on here. Was working at our food pantry. I desperately want to see the entire service and be able to DVR it. I have checked C-Span’s schedule and could not find it. I only get 1 and 2. Can anyone find when it will be replayed so I can record. HELP, please, pretty please!
Here ya go.
Thanks for working at your food pantry!

23 Reasons Sasha and Malia Stole the Inauguration
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is giving Republican colleagues 36 hours to agree to a deal on filibuster reform or he will move forward with the nuclear option.
“I hope in the next 24, 36 hours we can get something we agree on. If not, we’re going to move forward on what I think needs to be done,” Reid told reporters.
Excellent! Give em h—l, Harry.
Didn’t turn on Martin quickly enough, and got to hear Blitzer say the latest “controversy” is whether or not Beyonce’s Inaugural song was pre-recorded. NO, GOOFBALL, THE LATEST CONTROVERSY IS THAT MORE WERE SHOT ON A TEXAS CAMPUS.
We finally have a trial date. No word yet whether this year’s primary will be conducted under old or new voter ID rules.

OK…I’m getting on my box….I am about as liberal/progressive as it gets for a 70 yr old…..This all goes far deeper than just guns…it goes to parenting,….or lack thereof…….parents that were reared to be intolerant and thus rear their children to be intolerant, parents that rear their children with no moral guidance, parents that allow their children to be exposed to violence in the media, parents that rear their children with out discipline, parents that have no idea what is going on with their children and their mental health…..and that’s just the tip of the iceberg….Yes, I think we need the media regulated…music, film, video games, and radio and tv…that would include Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck…Yes, I think we need gun control……but until Parents step up and become responsible…nothing is going to change….it has gone too far…..and to Congress, that includeds you too…the longer you dither the more blood you have on your hands…..If you can save 1 person from gun violence…DO IT!….tHIS IS JUST SICK!
‘congress: the longer you dither the more blood you have on your hands’ !!
kathryn kivett I too am in your camp and couldn’t agree with you more.
How did I miss POTUS & FLOTUS greeting WH visitors today!!!
I’m 70 yrs. old too Kathryn–and I echo what you are saying.
Was this a great weekend or what?!?
Beyond my wildest dreams. This weekend was what our souls needed. Now we are ready to fight for what needs to be done.
I want to thank all TODsters and the supercalifragilisticespialidocious Chips for bringing me into every moment yesterday even though I had no tv and limited Internet. I could read your words and descriptions and that was plenty. I listened to the oath and the wonderful speech on NPR, which did a fine job of not over-punding, and after 11 pm I had stronger Internet and could catch up on the pictures. What a community!
aloha and happy hawaii morning chips and tods! beautiful day, we’ve worked so long and so hard for! pbo and veep joe taking this nation to its next level of excellence. in reading the news reports this morning, we get the clear notion that the rethugs have finally gotten the message. yes, president obama was re-elected, and by a resounding margin, and voters are still paying attention, and working with him, to move the agenda forward. it feels so good, this pride i’m swelling up with, these tears of joy and relief!
and chips, nobody, nobody has worked harder than you, every day, come what may, to keep up the momentum of support for the president and his work. thanks to you, all those who come here can share in the sense of community effort, no matter how far flung we may reside. in our various bubbles of disinformation, we’ve found truth here, and discourse, and understanding. we’ve been empowered and enboldened to speak out, to believe in ourselves, that we represent the president, and the best interests of this nation.
dear chips, never doubt that you have made a tremendous difference. thank you, bless you, love you!
New post, back soon!
What a treasure you all have created during the last two days. I was traveling and barely had time to skim each post during breaks and in my hotel room. Finally a breather and a moment to thank you all for your commentary, joy, enthusiasm, tips on great pieces to catch on c-span, funny commentary and on and on. And a glorious job done by Chips!!! Photos, videos, newspaper covers, links to live streaming…Can’t begin to thank you.
