CLANG, CLANG, CLANG!!!!! Up and at ‘em O’s!!!!! How’s everyone on this great getting up day today in TODville!???!!! It’s frigid in my neck of the woods. I hope everyone stays warm and toasty, that is, if you’re experiencing sub-zero windchills as we are in Chi-town. The Hawk is soaring around here.

Congrats, Mellesia & CM, I think. What’s with this excessive jollity so ‘early’ in the day, CookeM? You do realize that neighbours have the right to sleep late without you banging the garbage can lids?!! Some of us chose to wake up in a dignified manner, gently and responsibly tapping on the door to see who was up. Rights and responsibilities – do take a lesson, CM. …. Honey, I’m great! My eyes are far less red, my body feels like mine again, and I am not planning to go outside to test the temperatures unless I have to. The plan is to reorganize my suitcase, squeezing in all my acquired stuff WITHOUT upping my incoming weight, which was .6lbs short of being overweight. Notice the dot before the 6.

Sorry for that loud entry. Since Chips didn’t provide us with a proper first thread of the day, I had to make sure everyone had risen and shinen. I have to be jovial early or I’d just pull the kivers up and stay in place for the day. All that tip toeing around takes too much time. You gotta burst out loud and clear. I do the ‘Cookemom Reveille Bugle Call’ the only thing I don’t have is the trumpet or pipes. If it is used to wake up our military, then surely we TODdies can greet the sunrise with a little bang.

The secret to getting that luggage on under the weight limit is to wear your clothes in layers. Put a few sweaters on and loose fitting pants over a tighter fitting pant. Top all of that with all of your scarfs. That will either get you on board under the weight limit or they’ll let you on board out of pity. Either way, once on board and before take-off, regale the crew and passengers with a little strip tease. Down to your bottom…….layer of clothes.

BTW, ‘a little bang’ I can handle; your concept of little? I don’t know.

    Dear Chips,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the most beautiful Inaugural coverage. I was sick as a dog these last couple of days, and could only lurk. But as yucky as I felt, just being able to come here and see the wonderful pictures, wonderful comments, and all.

Thank you soooo very much for the most excellent job.

Love that picture – “President saves Boehner’s life” The look on the President’s face and on the face of the woman next to him [Boehner's wife??] tells a story.
Chips, the President may be coming back to Ireland, this time to Co. Wexford for the JFK anniversary.

      January 23, 2013 at 9:15 am

The woman next to him is Dr. Jill … I can’t read the picture for sure. The President’s hand is on Michelle’s arm, not her hand, her hands are clenched and Dr. Jill looks concerned. They are at the dessert stage of the meal, maybe Michelle had had all of Boehner she could stomach?

      • January 23, 2013 at 9:25 am

Yes, you can tell because they’re on the dessert course. Don’t want to try and read too much into it but he does look like he’s trying to console her. Jill also looks concerned. I can’t say I’d enjoy being seated next to Boehner, who is a colossal bore, among other things.

          January 23, 2013 at 9:39 am

Supposedly this was after the infamous eye roll, prompted by Boehner’s dumb comment about smoking, according to lip readers!, which Michelle did not appreciate. The pres is telling her to ‘pay him no mind’, I think.

          • January 23, 2013 at 9:42 am

If FLOTUS did roll her eyes at Boehner he probably said something she didn’t like, or he was trying to be funny, and she didn’t care for it. .

Okay I have got to say my piece. I cannot hold it any longer. Forgive me. Consider it a senior moment. Boehner is a nasty filthy dirty drunken perv. I’m so sorry FLOTUS had to sit next to that filth. FLOTUS has had had to put up with threats on her, her husband and her CHILDREN. Boehner is part of the reason they require such a HIGH-LEVEL of security. But I want FLOTUS to know she does not have to say a word to that bastard cuz I’m gonna say it for her every time I tweet his sorry drunken ass. PBO loves FLOTUS. The faces of children cannot lie. You can see in the faces of their children how much PBO and FLOTUS love each other. They are in every sense of the phrase A LOVE STORY.

What qualifies Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) to be ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee?

    • 32 cookemom
      January 23, 2013 at 9:23 am

Ranking member is head honcho on a committee of the minority party. The majority party has the lead or chair of the committee. In this case Menendez who took John Kerry’s place. So Corker was probably next in line. They usually get these positions on seniority basis, or their leader, in this case McDoodles, appoint them.

Thanks for the photo, Chips. It provides a visual capsule of a profound understanding by two people who love and understand each other, three, actually, when you add Jill Biden’s sensitive awareness. Michelle has been stoked to the point of irritation by Boehner. Her husband knows this. He tried to laugh Boehner off, but he senses what Michelle is feeling and he quietly and firmly looks her in the eye and says, I know how you feel, but let it go. It’s not worth it. She drops her eyes as if to say, I know, I just got a little ticked. Meanwhile Jill Biden sends silent sympathy to Michelle and, in the space of seconds, profound levels of wordless communication take place. Boehner got his stupid little dig in and the world saw an irritated Michelle (on an otherwise glorious day for her) and the gossips stopped there. But the real story is the deep level of communication that goes on between people who love and respect each other as marriage partners and friends. It was a perfect moment and every woman in the corld would see in Barack Obama the ideal husband and in Jill, the ideal friend.

      January 23, 2013 at 9:42 am

Perfect interpretation of that picture. Remember all the trash Michelle has seen her husband take from Boehner over the past four years. She usually can avoid him. That hour next to him must have seemed like an eternity. I also think he was on his way to drunk. When he made his speech, he didn’t sound very good.

    • January 23, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Jackie you are a very wise spirit. I can concur with you on every point. I will rest it there. Their love is so full and the evils of these people are tremendous. POB knows his wife, and make no mistake about that.

Amen. That is all. We are not here to tear down President Obama, so I say to the person who is bringing up speculation, Stop It Now. Chips has no place to tear down POB here. He does not need it here too, and I will not disrespect Chips. Good night TOD Family.HZ

      January 23, 2013 at 12:25 pm

Actually I’d be the first to say that the President failed his wife that afternoon…

I’ve never criticized President Obama, and it saddens me to for the very first time…

Unlike his first inauguration, he was infinitely less attentive to Mrs Obama this go around and a few of my friends and family noticed…

During the first inauguration, he kept her close to him at every turn never letting go of her…

He always went to her her first including after he read his speech in 2009…

It felt more like a celebration of *both* of them; but this time it felt more like he was flying solo…focusing more on himself and everyone else…

You can’t use the same generic word ‘extraordinary’ to describe your V.P and then use it to describe your wife…

He can do much better than that…

Even though she played a critical role, she seemed largely relegated to the sidelines this time around…

He knew the room was a pretty hostile one at that luncheon, even from members of his own party, and last time he was keenly aware and thus particularly protective of her…

      This time, not so much…

And it allowed the idiots to pounce…

People will only disrespect and mistreat your wife as much you allow it…

Send a message that even mildly suggests she’s fair game and they’ll pounce…

He seemed keen to do his outreach and neglected her in the process…

And during the parade, he spent much of the initial part of it checking his blackberry…

Yes, he’s the President, but come on…

The best moment of the entire inauguration was their dance…

She finally got a few moments alone with her husband and it was obvious she appreciated it…

When I saw her crying during the National Prayer service yesterday, it broke my heart…

And no, it wasn’t just because of the angelic voices of those kids…

I hope Mrs Obama does not become the first casualty of a second term strategy that de-emphasizes her now that the campaigns are over and focus is now placed on ‘socializing’ to get compromise…

We see how that worked out at the inaugural lunch…

I find myself entirely unimpressed with a successful, agenda-filled second term that ends up infinitely short-changing Mrs Obama…

She remains for a whole lot of people, a huge part of what keeps him compelling and appealing…

Their palpable love and his demonstrations of caring and attentiveness to her were what solidified and won him a lot of support and votes – even from some dyed in the wool Republicans who were impressed and moved…

He also won re-election with that formula intact…

Let’s hope they understand that most Americans outside the beltway punditry – the ones who matter and whose votes and support really count – are more drawn to him in his role as great husband…

We’ve never cared that he wasn’t schmoozing the good old boys…

      • 43 overseasgranny
        January 23, 2013 at 12:35 pm

I never once got that impression and I watched every minute. I could never imagine him not supporting or defending or loving his wife and we have had 5 years to watch them. That he let down Michelle is the last thought that would enter my mind about that day, or that picture. His look projects total support but caution that we can’t always say what we want to say to someone like Boner.
If I were Hilary today, Johnson, McCain & Paul would have heard a good piece of my mind and have walked away limping, but then I have never been much of a diplomat.

Chi, this is complete hogwash. No video or clip or statement supports your words. He was with her every step of the way from the church service to the inaugural balls. I watched every second of the Inauguration and he was present as a husband, a father, and a human being. Your statement reads like you’ve fallen into the trap of the media and are now repeating their made up BS.

I too watched every second of this inauguration as did several pretty savvy friends…

And everyone came away with that very same impression…

Did you also watch the National Prayer Service yesterday…

And no, I don’t do ‘media’ – and I’d like to think that I’m a bit too smart to ‘fall into any traps’…

And a pretty good sense of discernment…

The only other person more viciously maligned then he, is his wife…

He knows that she’s got a huge target on her back…

He also knows that even some in his own party have been less than charitable to her…

How many of them did you see greeting her…

He did fail her on inauguration day…

You don’t have to like or accept it…

Your so called “pretty savvy friends” are unfortunately not savvy enough. Did you watch them in the reviewing stand, did you watch them going to church? Did you watch them while they danced? Did you watch them while the swearing in ceremonies took place? Your statement is complete hogwash. You repeat media nonsense as though it is gospel. I’m stunned that you would fall into that disgusting trap. Barack Obama was present as a husband for his wife. He walked with her every step of the way. From the volunteering duties where he joked with her, to the statements made when he thanked his staff and her as she was by his side, to the tweets they both tweeted, to the affection shared between them in the reviewing stand, to kissing her hand while they were in the review stand, to kissing her cheek over and over again while they were in the review stand, to constantly hugging her while they were in the review stand to holding her hand when they walked the inaugural route, to the praise he heaped on her at the event thanking everyone who helped them, to the praise he heaped on her at the congressional luncheon, to the praise he heaped on her at the inaugural balls, to the affection celebrities saw and tweeted about while at the after-party. You and your “pretty savvy friends” clearly weren’t paying attention. You all were busy nitpicking, dissecting, and passing around media driven crap narratives about the Obamas and their marriage.

You’re trying to feed rancor, discord, lies, and media driven nonsense as a great man and his great wife begin their second term. Very disappointing.

I really don’t think Chips will appreciate your editing and posting videos that purport to show dissension between the President and Mrs. Obama – not on her blog. Best think again about doing that here. I do not understand your motivations for being so utterly mean. Nor do I want your explanation either; that will be as meaningless as what you wrote.

I have proof from the c-span videos and also proof from the National Prayer Service and not once did Pres. Obama ignore FLOTUS as you said below. Pres. Obama never ignored First Lady Michelle Obama. I watched the prayer breakfast and when they walked in, they walked in holding hands and stood together for a few minutes, then he whispered words in her ears, then she smiled and the service began. If she was choked up, it was because of the beautiful inter-faith service, the beautiful words by the preacher (heck, the man behind FLOTUS got choked up) and the singing by the wonderful choir. After the choir was done, Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama smiled, laughed, and clapped. He leaned over and whispered words in her ears, then he put his arm around her shoulders and hugged her close and then he kissed her on the cheek. When the service was done, he held her hands as they walked out then he he held her waist before they moved out of camera view. Shame on you for spreading gossip.

It is clear that Pres. Obama was with First Lady Michelle Obama all the way as evidenced by the video. You can check from minute 57 onwards and before that. Shame on you. Shame on you for trying to poison this place. Shame on you for coming here and trying to poison the start of Pres. Obama’s second term with gossip, drivel, and disgusting tripe that has no evidence. Shame on you.

I have spent hours watching and re-watching videos of my beloved PBO and FLOTUS and have not seen any of what Chi saw. Really I just didn’t see it. The best evidence that they are a couple deeply in love is the beautiful exchange when one of the children was trying to take a picture of a PBO/FLOTUS kiss. It was both hilarious because of the number of retakes the child requested and so touching when FLOTUS looks at the pic gets excited and points it out to PBO. I love that moment so much. I also loved PBO and FLOTUS walking on the parade route. I love them so much. They make me smile BIG and only love can make me smile that BIG.

Chi, I really disagree with what you’ve said. I felt that PBO was his usual loving and attentive self. My mom and I watched the entire thing and all she kept saying was look how he has to touch her or wait for her. He always makes sure he is by her side. There was even one point in the Parade where she was talking to TBG and PBO went over there and grabbed her hand to come on. Now, I did see when he was on his blackberry or when she ran to catch up with him when they were leaving the Capitol. But, I don’t attribute that to a lack of attentiveness. I think he was a man sidetracked by his mobile device and at the Capitol, I think he was trying to take everything in, but people were talking to him and telling him to go this or that way. Also, I feel that Michelle is a strong enough woman and confident enough in his love for her that she doesn’t even need his undying attention. The one thing I have never doubted is PBO’s love and desire to be close to Michelle. Never!

          D.C is a pressure cooker, a pit of hell…

Even the strongest of women – and men – sometimes need protection from that incredibly gory scene…

I’m thinking your skewed perceptions may have more to do with you than the Obamas, whose love for each other is evident to one and all, at all times. And heavens, they do not need to be glued to each other at all times. That would be stifling. I would be insulted if my husband treated me in that manner, as some delicate flower that needed constant attention and protection. Most women are more independent than that.

Did you even read the original post which was a response to an analysis by someone else over the picture on this post…

This was not meant to turn into this back and forth…

Someone analysed a picture from the luncheon Chip posted above…

And this was my response to that…

It was what I felt from that single day…

Not from any other day or event…

              Just the inaugural day…

I’ve never criticized President Obama for as long as I’ve been on this blog – never…

But this bothered me enough – and that picture and the decision by some to analyze it, found me sharing what I observed that day…

I watched the inauguration closely and I think you must have been watching Fox and edited clips. The overwhelming love of the President for Mrs. Obama and vice versa was clearly visible from the oath taking, through the parade, kissing in the reviewing stand, to the dance. The media is trying to create rifts by focusing on ridiculous stories like the eyeroll or Beyonce. Let’s not feed into it.

          January 23, 2013 at 1:39 pm

          Actually never watched Fox…ever…

Blocked on every television set in my home…

And if you knew me, you’d know that I do not do media…

You don’t have to agree with me…

          It’s my take away…

          My observations…

Feel free to re-watch the 2009 inaugural and this one…

You have absolutely no idea how incredibly sad it made me to hear other supporters express the exact same sentiments…

          There’s plenty of time ahead…

We’ll all just have to watch and see how it all plays out…

But in the end, for me, Mrs Obama remains the singularly most valuable person to this president…

She is the only person completely vested in his success entirely for no reason other than she believes in him and desperately wants him to succeed…

She is the only person not looking to eventually cash in on their access and association to the oval office…

Let’s hope no one ever loses sight of this…

I trust your fierce advocacy and, as the President said when he was addressing the staff in Chicago the day after the election, our future is in good hands with a younger generation as smart, savvy, organized and committed to realizing the promise of America and empowering “we the people” and securing liberty and justice for all. It is only to detract from the real challenges of progressive politics that people focus on such minutiae and miss the larger picture.

You really have no idea just how many people support him simply because of her…

I too just found out not too long ago the sort of connection people have to her…

i do not agree with you saying he was dismissive of her. i just think he was distracted and had a lot on his mind.
the picture above actually made me feel happy because even with all that, he could sense she was upset at that moment and got out of his own head for a minute.
i think you are over analyzing and misinterpreting.

He actually paid Mrs Biden more attention at the luncheon than he did his own wife…

Pulled out her chair and forgot to pull out his wife’s both times…

For a man who instinctively always reached for his wife, he seemed to almost forget her at every turn during this event…

At the end of the swearing in, he just walked out and she had to practically run after him…

          It was all too demeaning…

There was no excuse for any of it…

Jill Biden was the President’s dinner partner and as such it was his responsibility to take care of her and pull her chair out and see that she was seated. Boehner was Michelle’s dinner partner and Drunkard Boner is the failure and he did not see to Michelle’s comfort and her seating. You need to go back and read Miss Manners. Don’t know what you got into your head, but it isn’t right.
As to the Blackberry, the president may have been getting an important update on some critical event in the world and perhaps at that moment he did walk on and Micheele had to get her act in gear and catch up to him for once. Sheesh!

chi, you need to calm down honey because you’re basically talking out of the side of your neck now. How can you say he ignored her thru much of the luncheon when you didn’t even get to see much of the luncheon. You said you’re just stating what you saw and that’s your opinion. I think your eyes were playing tricks on you and that’s my opinion. As far as DC being a pressure cooker, it is what it is. Marriages are not always lovey dovey and the Obamas have admitted to surviving some tumultuous times in their marriage, so I’m sure they can handle. As I stated, Michelle is strong black woman and I’m sure if her husband is not living up to her standards, she will let him know and I’m sure with the President being the strong loving man he is, will do what he has to, to rectify the problem. But all that is big what ifs because from the outside looking in, it looks good to me. Plenty of women wish they had a man a quarter attentive as PBO.

it’s not about winning or losing, Chi. I’m simply disagreeing with you. I never insulted you. Saying one is “talking out the side of their neck” is the same as saying you are not making sense. I always am astounded when people decide to put their opinions on blogs and then when people disagree with them, they clam up and use the, “I’m only stating my opinion” meme. Duh, we’re all stating our opinions. Can you honestly tell me when you were typing your post, that you wasn’t going to receive fierce pushback, on THE OBAMA DIARY no less. if you’ve been here as long as you say then you know people have been called out for much less. Was it wrong for me to feel and say that you’re eyes were playing tricks on you? No, the same way it wasn’t wrong for you to post the way you felt. BTW, please believe if your friends or other TODers decided to post these observations, I would let them know how I feel too. I don’t care how many feel that way.

You’ve provided no proof yet continue to spread rancor. This says more about your mean spiritedness than the Obamas. You come here to spread lies, gossip, drivel and disgusting comments. Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on you. Your comments and gossip are disgusting. Where is your proof? Where is your proof Chi? I’m guessing you’re doctoring the clips as we speak. You come here with unfounded accusations then play the victim. Shame on you. Your behavior towards a lovely couple and your maligning of their character shows you as a hollow individual. In 2009, he made time to…and she had a dinner ‘partner’ then too…

No excuses – especially when he noticed that Boehner wasn’t exactly being courteous to his wife…

Boehner was extremely cold to Mrs Obama from the very start…

She tried to engage him at first and eventually gave up…

Joe Biden made plenty of time for his wife…he actually put President Obama to shame…

You know there’s always been people who suck up to the president, who would tend to ignore her…

But he always had this way of pulling her right in and making it really clear that they were a package deal…

You don’t dismiss his wife while you suck up to him…

              It as never an option…

              Not so much lately…

I consider this to be the most wrong-headed comment I have ever read here. Perception is way off, for some reason. I have no idea where you got these ideas, nothing in evidence in reality, imho. And by the way, Michelle isn’t some delicate little flower that needs some swarming “protection” from her husband. She is a strong, confident woman, perfectly capable of taking care of herself in any kind of situation. Wow.

Asking that a husband be attentive to his wife and not practically forget her as he departs a huge event celebrating him – and her …

And not allowing an asshole like John Boehner the chance to treat her with so shabbily…

That’s not only reserved for ‘some delicate little flower that needs some swarming “protection” from her husband. ‘

Even ‘strong, confident, capable women’ like Mrs Obama deserve and are entitled to every last bit of that all important courtesy the so-called ‘delicate little flowers’ get…

Sorry, but I have never seen a husband treat his wife with so much love and affection as President Obama does. Ever. Anywhere. Don’t imagine wrongs that do not exist. That’s unfair to both of them. Their love is obviously strong. (even if they are not locked together at all times)

So that wipes over the oversight at this very important occasion…

This is not about repeated behavior…

This was about specifically about this inaugural day – in response to a picture above that showed a clearly miffed Mrs Obama…

And he did leave her behind after the swearing in ceremony…

              How’s that even possible…

That in my opinion was unacceptable…

God forbid we be less than perfect on any given day, especially with the weight of the world on our shoulders, and perhaps melancholy of a life about to take a bow in four short years- so much to ponder; the urgency of not enough accomplished. But then again, I’m probably in the minority, but I absolutely hope that it will never be about a choice between presidential accomplishments/legacy…

Chi, I saw him walk ahead of Michelle too, but I never thought it was a nefarious action. My question is why do you think it is? Mrs. O laughed and caught up with him and said wait for me. Then she left him!! She wasn’t mad, so why are you? Why do you see a man being caught up in a grand monumental moment in his life, listening to the directions of a man that interrupted him as he was looking at the sea of people before him, informed him to exit and he did just that. The man was caught up in a moment. He not only walked ahead of his wife, he walked ahead of the girls. Does that mean he’s not a good dad and neglecting them? Also, there is no way he could have foreseen that Boner would be so obnoxious that he might get on Michelle’s nerves. PLUS he had nothing to do with the seating arrangement! He did not abandon her and it’s obvious by the look in the above photo that he had her feelings in consideration. He is very intuned with his wife and he knew she needed to be calmed down or comforted or whatever! So, the question remains, why are You slighted by these occurences?

            • 108 Chi
              January 23, 2013 at 5:56 pm

I’ll answer this last question and I’ll be done…

It was an observation that was rather stark especially compared to the last inauguration that seemed much more like a celebration of both of them…

To me it was awkward, and when a few other people mentioned it, it bothered me, simply because I’d hoped it was something I over read…

With regard to Boehner, President Obama was sitting on the other side of his wife…

It might have helped to simply chat with his wife since Boehner was being a complete asshole…

She really tried to engage Boehner, but he was so cold and unresponsive…

She finally seemed to give up…

It might have prevented these pictures like the one above – and the viral video with her rolling her eyes…

              It was so unnecessary…

I suppose that I have this immense sense of how hard some have been on Mrs Obama and they’re always looking for a picture or video that supports a negative meme about her…

And I’m pretty pissed that this thing with Boehner with accompanying pictures and videos, was even allowed to happen…

              With that said, I’m done…

“I hope Mrs Obama does not become the first casualty of a second term strategy that de-emphasizes her now that the campaigns are over and focus is now placed on ‘socializing’ to get compromise…

Let’s hope they understand that most Americans outside the beltway punditry – the ones who matter and whose votes and support really count – are more drawn to him in his role as great husband…”

Wow, Chi, so let me put in my 2 cents. With that statement alone, you have already indicted PBO as being a self-serving twit. Me thinks even FLOTUS would be put out by your assertions. As for me, I was drawn to hm before I knew about his wife. I do hope most people appreciated him for himself.

          January 23, 2013 at 5:27 pm

Ed, no indictment, just my observation from a single but very important event that seemed to serve to set a tone for the second term…

I’m sure there are plenty of people who knew and were drawn to President Obama first, I did too…

But that’s not what this is about…

I think you’ve known me long enough from around here to understand that it took a lot for me to share that…

But it’s what not just me, but people I know observed…

So people are upset and accusing me of every thing under the sun, but this was not a random thought I observed alone unfortunately…

We all should have enough in our own lives to handle. I know for damn sure I do. They love each other immensely, good enough for me. One day out of a lifetime- no biggy!

      • January 23, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Chi, could it be that these are now two people totally comfortable in their now familiar roles and don’t need to cling to each other as they did when they were stepping into uncharted waters four years ago? I happened to see a lot of reaching, hugging, hand holding, and kissing, but then, I see them as two mature adults who have moved past the needy stage and into the full partnership stage.

Mrs. Obama has grown in her own right. She has matured in her role and her successes and list of accomplishments don’t require her to be boasted by the constant presence of her powerful husband. And it just may be the President recognizes that his wife wields her own power and he doesn’t need to treat her like his ingenue.

They are co-leaders, and wouldn’t it be a bit out of order for FLOTUS- this strong, bright, gorgeous, and stately woman to be held as nothing less. PBO sees who she is and respects her greatly for it. She can hold her own and run with the toughest, if she has to. Well said. Also, my screen froze at my comment and I had to run to catch my train, thus this page was up when I came into work this morning….. :-D

Wonderful coverage of the Inauguration here at TOD…THANK YOU. This site is an inspiration and a wealth of information and great coverage. I love the positive energy and it embodies the true meaning of community!

Here’s my Inauguration story…I mentioned in a post on Monday that I was one of the survivors of the Purple Tunnel of Doom in 2009 and related here how, although that part of the trip was a bit of a nightmare, the rest of the trip was truly incredible, meeting many wonderful people and having several once in a lifetime experiences. I decided not to go this time, but a contingent from Colorado did go, including my friend Shari, who, since I’m a graphic designer, had asked me to design a two sided sign for her. She expressly requested that it look “homemade”, so I had some fun putting it together, added glitter and bedazzling the letters. On one side it said, “Rosa sat, so Martin could walk. Martin walked so Barack could run. Barack ran so our children could fly.” (I cut out butterflies and had them “flying” off the board.) On the other side it said, “No Hate. Know Love.” I dropped it off at her house before she left.

I got texts throughout the day from the group, and later in the afternoon, when the parade was going on, Shari texted me to say, “The President just gave YOUR SIGN a thumbs up!”

    Isn’t that cool?

I have been reading here and elsewhere comments about Hillary’s performance. This is not an isolated act. I think this is all a part of an orchestrated maneuver by the administration to make the GOP look small and petty (not that they don’t do a good job of that themselves). This is a nice follow up to the inauguration address which basically did the same thing. It appears to be working and I anticipate seeing more of it.

i’m sure she’s doing just fine taking down the lunatics and their manufactured “concerns,” but i must say i’m getting more and more disturbed by the growing drumbeat of the hillary 2016 talk. one of the most exciting things about president obama’s win in 2008 for me was finally an end to the clinton/dlc people such as lanny davis, mark penn, terry mcauliffe, and so on, who almost completely destroyed the democratic party in the 20 years they had control over it. the PUMAs have spent years now trying to take down president obama too. president obama has fixed much of this.

this “inevitable” talk is giving me a horrible feeling of deja vu that i never thought would happen again, espeically with terry mcauliffe running for governor of virginia. ariana huffington and her friends are all promoting the “inevitable hillary” theme constantly, and people need to ask themselves why would she do that. is huffington someone you trust? elizabeth warren is the perfect choice to carry on the obama revolution for the next generations, and is the embodiment of “forward,” instead of going backward with the the same names that have been controlling the party for decades, when democrats were getting their butts kicked all over the country as they tried to be republican-lite.

    • 210 theo67
      January 23, 2013 at 11:25 am

Personally, I think putting anyone’s name forward, except VP Biden, is premature. Elizabeth Warren should be given a little breathing room to get her bearings in the Senate and decide if she’s cut out for politics and all it entails. Hillary has given an answer, and she should be allowed the room to figure out her next steps. And there are plenty of players waiting in the wings who are 20 years younger than both Hillary and Joe, and who clearly have an interest in the job that should be allowed to explore their viability without preconceived notions blocking their paths.

Regardless – President Obama was re-inaugurated just two days ago. Why can’t we enjoy that for a bit before getting back on that media roller-coaster of lies and nonsense? There’s serious work to do before anyone is really ready to start talking about 2016, and the world will be a much different place at that point. It’s ridiculous that people live for campaigns and don’t seem to consider that there’s supposed to be some work that comes after winning a campaign – which is the actual point of campaigning in the first place.

i agree that it’s too early to be talking about candidates, and that’s why i often push back against the people who are always doing with the “hillary 2016″ talk. i offer senator warren to show there is a better option for the first female president, and i’d never even be talking about it if it wasn’t for the daily comments i see pushing hillary still, which have basically never stopped since president obama was sworn in the first time i might add. yes, way too many goals to accomplish with president obama’s second term, and OFA is where it’s at and where people should be spending their time and energy. i agree.

I love the power of the remote. Watching CSpan. It is very clear the republicans are the dumbest rocks on earth. And we have some dumb rocks in WY. We even dig up their ancestors, the dinosaurs occasionally. Many of their remains have turned into coal and oil. We do very well financially with their remains. How my husband and I turned into liberals well never know. Did you know we’re surrounded by three coal mines and one power plant? The power plant is less than five miles from our house and the coal mines are one to two miles from us? Hubby happens to work at one sixty miles away. Largest in country and at one time the world. I don’t know why I’m bringing this up now. But so many of friends and family have posted hateful things about Pres. Obama and I’m taking it personally. Take heart in the fact that as much as they spew their hateful comments and writhe in agony, President Obama was just sworn into a second term. Nobody can change that. And he’s going to be noted in history as a remarkable President who did good things for his people and the world. The screechers will be noted as a block who hurled insults and constructed roadblocks, but were unable to stall him – few of them will be mentioned by name, and none of them will be mentioned in any good terms. For reference, see Lincoln – we all know who he was, but his detractors are just lumped into a group of hateful people who hurled insults at him, but couldn’t stop him. There’s a reason why President Obama thinks of Lincoln as one of his role models.

Charles Pierce wrote a very good opinion piece about the Repub convention and the absolutely stupid little speech by our Governor, Mary Fallin. She talked about how we “don’t take help from the federal gov’t..blah, blah, blah.” Pierce went right down the list of what the fed gov’t does for Oklahoma, and ended by saying, “without the federal government, Oklahoma would be nothing but sand and a few pissed off Indians.” Tinker air base is our largest employer, take that away, and we would fold. Without the lakes the feds built, our drought would have us blowing away in a second dust bowl. Stupid is endemic some places. But boy, we do love our guns!!!!!! Gag!

You sound like a pretty strong person to me though. Anyone who actually lives among the dumb rocks, and not just watch them on TV, are true warriors. So it’s good to know we have you and Mr. carolmaewy on our side.

Try not to take it too personal though, trust me, the losers are feeling a whole lot worse today than you are. Let them continue to post the crazy. That will go along way in getting Dems elected. Maybe not right away in gerrymandered districts for awhile, but that kind of stuff doesn’t play on the national level. Don’t read that stuff, and excuse yourself when confronted with it, if you don’t feel you can comfortably wrangle them to the ground and stomp with facts.

Thanks. I needed that. We have been through a lot in local and state govt in the administrative process. It got very personnel and we feel so isolated. Talked to hubby and am much better now.

    In other news:
Israeli voters have spoken – and they have clearly moved the country back toward the center politically.

Contrary to gloomy predictions, Israeli voters strengthened the left and the center and weakened the right.
The results also provide a new opening for peace and a chance to construct a coalition committed to pursuing a two-state solution. It is important to note that there will be more explicit supporters of the two-state solution in this Knesset than in the last.

The big winner in the election, the centrist Yesh Atid (There is a Future) party, has already made it clear that one of its key demands is a revival of the peace process. The Labor Party also increased its strength while former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni’s “Movement” and the pro-peace “Meretz” party will also be well represented in the new Knesset.

Voters gave parties on the right fewer seats, rebuffing those who campaigned on a platform of stalling peace efforts and expanding settlements. The Prime Minister’s Likud party and its Yisrael Beitenu partner lost 11 seats in the 120-member Knesset and Netanyahu must now seek centrist partners to build a parliamentary majority.

    Lets see what happens now….

  89. January 23, 2013 at 12:06 pm

For me, one of the best things about the hearing was HRC chastising the Senate for their intellectual laziness and political posturing at the expense of much-needed thoughtfulness and action. This is exactly the problem: those who hold the highest seats in our government DO NOT do their homework and are not interested in pursuing the truth.

Nope, they are only interested in trying to get that “gotcha moment” for tee vee. It’s all really pathetic!!! Meanwhile stuff goes to hell in a handbasket while they stand around with their fingers up their butts.

Yup. I must say I was quite impressed with her wankiness for facts and sticking up for Ms Rice.

You could see the thugs were trying to walk on eggshells around her when they confront her face to face.

I thought the same thing, and then I thought maybe I was overreacting. Good to hear you had the same reaction.

Did these guys really think they would get anything by HRC? She’s been in the Senate, she knows them and their games. She’s got more brains and courage than the entire Republican caucus put together. They may have their little talking points for a few hours, but they are not the winners. Now, the Senate can get on with the confirmation hearings for John Kerry. They have no reason to delay…….
My take on HRC and 2016……she said she will not run for political office again. I believe her. Perhaps she has seen how life can be without a neverending campaign…..she has lived in the fire for too many years, and has a lot to contribute in other ways. On a somewhat snide note, I think Bill wants her to run so he can be the power behind the throne, live in the White House again. He can’t run, so have Hillary run.
Good to hear the results of the Israeli election……hopefully this is another step in stopping the rightward swing of different countries. France made a big step getting rid of a right wing government…..we are on the correct path…….I read recently that David Cameron wants to be prime minister until 2022….or some such time, so he’s not going to call an election in the near future. However, events almost always overtake individuals, so who knows what might happen.

Carolyn..I agree that it may well be Bill that is the ego behind the push for Hillary 2016. I too believe she does not want to run for office again (President). Who knows where she will end up. She has too much energy and brains to sit back, but why put herself through the nut mill again? Can she be nominated for a Supreme court Justice? She has left her mark and ends on her terms.

I think the Supreme Court is too sedate for Hillary Clinton. She can start her own initiative for woman and girls – she’d probably get more done outside of the political circus than she could as President, anyway. A lot of time and energy gets wasted with this political nonsense. I think President Obama’s greatest achievements may come after he leaves office, too. No more nutjobs to deal with. Look at how the second term has already given him more freedom, knowing he doesn’t have to play the political game any more.

I’ve been posting this on some media FB sights. Remember, today is 1/23/2012. Three days into President Obama’s second term. He gets four years whether you like it or NOT! Hope it gets through their hard heads.

Their next hand…Impeachment hearings. I may be wrong but I don’t see an end to all these hearings. Midterm elections must turn this around.

I’m catching the mid-morning local newscasts. So far, the coverage and commentary has been more ‘lean’ Hillary, than the good Senators.

Sen. Durbin: Democrats lack votes to pass talking filibuster reform

    Alexander Bolton – 01/23/13 12:17 PM ET
The rules change would require senators who want to filibuster legislation to actively hold the floor and debate.…

See? Democrats are a problem too. They dint want to give up power! This is huge. And Durbin needs to stop undercutting Reid!

And, I read today about Menendez or whoever is taking Kerry’s place along with some repug, are going to question the President’s foreign policies. This, is why POTUS does not want to give the dem party his OFA orginization or lists. I also read some other garbage oped today about dems in congress unhappy with something or other PBO has done or hasn’t done. They are all backstabbers.
