12:10 ET: President Obama Makes a Personnel Announcement
White House live * CNN * CBS
Good morning everyone.
Love it. We can veto the era of GOP obstructionism and move forward into the era of Obama transformation.
thanks Chips. So many times a bridesmaid…good day to you too.
Well, congrats on being the bride this time, AB! ( ;) I wasn’t going to comment until I saw your bridesmaid comment.)
Congrats on 1st vetvera!!
Thanks Bob…so enjoy your input on this site.
Good morning Chips and friends.
Good morning! Congrats to veto era.
Sorry I messed up your name vetivera.
Posted this in the wrong place in my excitement. ‘Love it. We can veto the era of GOP obstructionism and move forward into the era of Obama transformation.’
;) I’ve been messing up all morning!
@AnnieLowrey @NerdyWonka has been engaging you in a completely respectful dialogue. You blocked her from ego. Your premise was always shaky.— Edwina (@NJedwina) January 25, 2013
Thank you. :)
No, thank you !!!!!
Put in my two cents. I don’t know ins and outs of posting here, but this is my two cents to her: @annielowrey Never read you before, doubt I’ll ever read you. You are very thin skinned. How do you get sources to talk to you? …..Well, I did it for UT, but you’re on her side Edwina. If anyone wants to give me a link to the ins and outs of posting on this blog, I’d appreciate it. I was going to appointments today, but this cold or virus, whatever I have is dragging me down. I get a little snarky when I don’t feel good, so need to post carefully! ;)
I brought your tweet over. Thanks. :)
@AnnieLowrey @NerdyWonka You blocked her. How do you expect her to answer? Like talking to yourself? Are you your own source or thin air?— CarolMae (@CarolMaeWY) January 25, 2013
Thanks UT. I’m in that mood to protect my friends. The mother instinct doesn’t leave after a certain age. But I must use self-control. ;)
omg FEEL BETTER Carol. I’ve had this shit for two months. Fucking SICK OF BEING SICK!!! /raaaaaaaaaaage
Thanks Tally. Hope you feel better too. I’ve never been this sick this long. I know I’m getting older and have a poor immune system, but this is ridiculous. Drinking lots of water. Think it’s keeping me from being bedridden.
Are we sure we are going to see enough diversity in these appointments. Who will write the next article of complaint? I am so tired of the msm. Thank you UT for your fierce defense. These journalist can’t hold up to their own standards.
Annie Lowrey is now tweeting me as though she didn’t block me. I can’t respond to her. Can someone please let her know that she’s being dishonest by pretending to tweet me when she blocked me.
*/* <—- Cheering you on. Go 'head, girl!
Thanks PJ. It just puzzles me that these so called “journalists” think every one is a Fox News audience. If one pens an article full of glaring holes, then one should be ready to have facts to back up the article when respectfully challenged.
Upthread, UT, you’ll see Edwina has done as you requested – and I’ve RT’d it.
@NJedwina Blocking someone and then continuing to tweet them as if they can respond is the height of pettiness @annielowery @nerdywonka— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) January 25, 2013
Oops, wrong @ for Ms. Lowrey. Corrected.
@NJedwina @NerdyWonka Blocking someone and then continuing to tweet them is the height of pettiness @AnnieLowrey— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) January 25, 2013
Thanks LL. :)
@AnnieLowrey She didn't block you, and she has been engaging you in dialogue. You blocked her and are trying to accuse her of not engaging.— (@aspirational12) January 25, 2013
Thanks hopefruit. :D
She picked the wrong person to block. You have many friends and we will bug her respectfully untill she goes crazy. ;)
.@AnnieLowrey You are still lobbing remarks to NW. Blocking someone who is respectfully challenging you looks like cowardice to many of us.— Edwina (@NJedwina) January 25, 2013
Ok frivolous comment. I love President Obama’s shirt !!
Okay….., I love President Obama :-D
And here I was going to stay off Twitter for the day. Darn you, UT!!!
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Every time you try to leave, I pull you back in.
Best laid plans …… :-)
Alert! Alert! A federal court has issued a ruling that the 5 NLRB appointments that PBO made while the Senate was in recess is unconstitutional. (Back in December I believe). There is an article at Huff Po. Stating that technically the Senate was “in session” because they gaveled in and out during the recess time. These 5 recess appointments were made the same day Richard Courday was recessed appointed to the Consumer Protection Agency and there is pending federal court case saying that appointmet was also unconstitutional! The Obama Administration is appealing the ruling on the NLRB appointees to the Supreme Court. But if today’s ruling is upheld, this means any action the board has taken since the appointments are null and void. The RWNJ are going to go apeshit over this! Get ready Obots! I for one, am a little worried about all this!
Relax. PBO is a constitutional scholar who knows what he’s doing. This is going to go to supreme ct. Do you see PBO looking like he’s worried while announcing his COS today? He’s there making jokes and all.
Relax, PBO’s got this. To hell with the RWNJ’s. They live for short-term, spurious victories which ALWAYS morph into long-term, profound losses.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it yet. It’s a lower court, and the Administration will appeal.
Lower courts said Obamacare was unconstitutional too. How did that work out for them ?
Goes the dynamite!
It seems that many appointments are before the Circuit Courts. Unfortunately, when they rule against PBO, iti further delays the much needed leadership of several agencies. It is slowing down much needed work and this has been going for 4 years. Several federal judge appointments have not been filled. What choice did PBO have, but to fill these appointments via recess. The Republicans put holds on practically all his nominees.
Court: Obama appointments are unconstitutional | General Headlines | Comcast xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-…— Sabreen60 (@QueenMerytAmon) January 25, 2013
Yep, I was alarmed by this decision, too, but hey, this is just a battle and not the overall war.
Besides, I’ve learned since 2009 that it isn’t wise to rely on the jubliation of the RWNJs because it’s usually short-lived. They are just as politically obtuse as the some of our emo-progressive “friends.”
It’s still nerve-racking but the GOP never intended to bow out gracefully. They will leave kicking and screaming while trying to drag the rest of the country with them.
Of course Annie is blocking persons who dear to challenge her, remember she is married to another “know it all” Ezra I can’t stand him and now his wife is just getting on my damn nerve. The thing with these so called journalists is that they think the Prez doesn’t have his supporters who got his back and we are sick and tired of the lies they are spreading about him. It needs to stop
Do they have kids?
I don’t know who this Annie person is, but I don’t care for her husband at all. He’s just like the snotty, arrogant conservatives I use to argue with when I was in college. The only difference is that he’s liberal. Unfortunately, his liberalism hasn’t made him even more enlightened than most modern-day conservatives. Everytime he appears on MSNBC, I don’t watch.
Is this Annie the same woman that complained about PBO’s early appointment for SOS? I remember a woman speaking out about how he skipped over this woman that was entirely qualified that was high up in the Pentagon and on the list that others thought might get it. I also remember her saying she had worked with the woman in the Pentagon before. At the time I felt it appeared like sour grapes on her part due to her friend not getting the position. Shortly after seeing that interview on MSNBC the news was showing the pic spoken of and the news that PBO was not appointing women. I thought I heard the same name mentioned, but am not sure of that.
Have zero doubt the President knew they would do this. They need this fight to highlight the fact that just because someone drives to the Capitol and gavels in and out – that, by no reasonable definition, is Congress being in session.
This commnent^^ is to LB4Obama, up thread^^
You’re right Bob. This ruling did not hit PBO by surprise. I hope people understand it – even though the MSM will try to make it seem otherwise with their typical headlines “Court delivers a CRUSHING blow to the Obama administration”
Well, we know the drill already. We’ve seen this movie MANY TIMES before. And the ending is NEVER in the GOP or MSM’s favor. Not where PBO is concerned.
Think Progress and GOPolitico have stories about the labor board appointments as well. Over at FukNews.com they have a blazing large type headline “Obama Unconstitutional” with their usual head exploding crap. One detail not mentioned above is that these appointments occured on January 4, 2012. The Senate started it’s session on January 3rd. One positive note is that the Judge (Sentelli)? is right wing appointed one. The Think Progress post provides some insight into the DOJ defense of the appointments that they argued in the D.C. circuit court that made the ruling. I totally trust PBO and his legal team and the DOJ. It just adds to the RWNJ pearl clutching BS!
Very proud of our TOD ~engagers~ ~interruptors~ ~challengers~ ~blood sweat and tears activists in the democracy~
Forward ! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Great appearance and announcement about the McDonough appointment. You could feel the mutual love, trust and respect between the 2 men. And Stillwater, Mn. redeems itself somewhat. Crazy eyes/crazy lady Michele Bachmann also from there. The sane people there, and it’s a lovely little town by the way, have some of their shame relieved by this highly regarded appointment.
Loved it too Dotster, real affection for McDonough – crikey, he’s from the same town as Bachmann?!
Well, we know the drill already. We’ve seen this movie MANY TIMES before.. > You’re so Spot On HP. Thank you!
Dang! How many reruns are they going to play? You mean they can’t fin new scripts…geezz!
Carry on TODsters! I’ve always submitted that challenging the source is so much better than preaching to the choir on a blog. I’d love to join the Tw’orm, but I don’t know how.
We need to get you on the twitter! :D
It was enlightening to me that even though I engaged Annie Lowrey respectfully, she blocked me because she didn’t have facts to counter her biased article. She kept moving the goal posts and twisting herself with her words. When she admitted that she was happy the disgusting debate of “Obama Hates Women” went on ad nauseam in the media, it revealed a lot. A journalist is supposed to hold high standards and not get petty when challenged. The new type of media folks – who are one step above from gossips some days – think everyone is a Fox News audience and doesn’t understand the issues. It’s insulting to the public and yet they wonder why they are held in such disdain by poll after poll.
You were completely respectful and more importantly you can armed with facts and facts made her squirm. One thing about these journalists that I try to practice (not always successfully) is to not curse at them or call them names. Because cursing or name-calling gives them a cover when they block you. They can always claim that you were rude to their delicate feelings. Respectfulness and #facts is the best way because it makes them look foolish when they block you. Way to go, UT, I think you did a fabulous job.
you *came* armed with facts
Oh girrrrrl, it’s so ridic-easy. srrrrrrsly. doooooo eeeeeeet!!!! Just go to http://twitter.com – try. :D :D :D
A very important question that has yet to be answered. Note the all caps.
IS OBAMA MADE OF SWEET DELICIOUS HONEY?— Simon Maloy (@SimonMaloy) January 25, 2013
He does make honey at White House! ;)
Simon Maloy cracks me up on twitter. His mockery of the GOP is so spot on. I replied that no, Pres. Obama isn’t made of honey, he’s made of socialist jam.
Oh, that would be my chokecherry jelly. I make the best. And then there is rhubarb strawberry jam. Or my crabapple for rethugs. ;)
bah ha ha! Funny UT – wow way to engage that ahem, “journalist”. That is really good work. And fantastic job all UT defenders!
Thanks Alice. It just amazes me that the so called “journalists” seem to think that everyone is a Fox News audience and they don’t deserve to be challenged with facts when they pen a biased article full of glaring holes. They don’t seem to realize that this is one more reason why the public holds them in such disdain.

thx LP this is great!
Thanks, I got here late, but read the earlier threads and thought this was a good primer for any journalist claiming whatever B.S. as there premise.
What lovely plains do you live in? I’m from the short grass prairie of WY, but grew up in the tall grass prairie of eastern SD. McGovern my hero! :)
Auburn, AL http://www.auburnalabama.org/ its called “the loveliest village on the plains” and our football teams home games are referenced to playing on the “plains” for Georgia its “between the hedges” LSU is “Death Valley” Florida is “the swamp” etc……
I like Denis M. He rode his bike? Good luck Denis. Obama has good taste! :)
Thanks for the explanation. I had no idea. My plains are very different than yours. America the Beautiful! :)
We also got our mascot from “plains” Indians back around civil war http://www.ocm.auburn.edu/welcome/traditions.html hence “War Eagle” which flies before every game with the fans humming “war eagle” while it circles the staduim until it lands on the 50 yardline.
People love their sports! And all the little traditions that go with them… Nice.
GOP Panic Move Will Backfire
Obviously, these changes have the potential to alter the outcome of the 2016 election, but they are not a good substitute for fielding a more appealing candidate. In a very real way, this effort to change the rules smacks of desperation. It not only will galvanize the left for the midterms (so we can try to repeal the reforms), but it delegitimizes the eventual Republican nominee, the Republican Party, and our entire electoral system. Imagine if Romney had become president after losing by four percentage points and nearly five million votes! Does anyone think that would have been a healthy outcome?
But, you may remember, I predicted that this would happen. The GOP does not want to change and they will do what they can to compensate for their increasing unpopularity even if it means bending or outright breaking the rules. They are a neo-fascist party, and quite dangerous.

Last thread there was talk about Ireland and Chips going with PBO. If you catch a ride, could you report back on Connemara Marble? It looks so beautiful in photos. I understand it is only found in Ireland.

When South Africa is ahead of you in the EQUALITY FOR ALL department, it's time to rethink. @TheEconomist (@Upworthy) upworthy.com/mapped-where-i…— Tally Briggs (@bardgal) January 25, 2013
South Africa maybe ahead on gay rights, they are still firmly behind the US in racial civil rights. I know this from first hand experience having travelled to the country. South Africa’s apartheid system was more rigid than US segregation and as a result, it took 40 additional years for the African National Congress to successfully end it in comparison to the NAACP sucessful fight for civil rights (which was formed around the same time as the ANC).
Yet, this is still embarrassing when it comes to gay rights and at least South Africa is trying to confront their racial issues head-on instead of sweeping them under the rug like we’ve done here in the States. South Africa quickly created a national museum to remember the apartheid days. In America, it’s only now, 50 years after the Civil Rights movement and 40 years after MLK’s death that we have a national memoral in his honor and the Smithsonian is begining work on an African-American museum.
I know. I just think it’s shameful we’re behind ANYONE in this.
Do any of these idiots ever read the Constitution?
@JulieCareyNBC Um, Supremacy Clause?— meta (@metaquest) January 25, 2013
Do Republicans even know how government works? Federal law trumps state law in cases like this. Good lawd.
I think I’ve heard of Stillwater, MN. oh, how I’ve traveled. Ha!
Ha! Big ol’ country out there, yes? I once ate a fresh strawberry in Plant City, FL.
P.S. It was attached to something called short cake, topped by whipped cream, now attached to my hips! But I enjoyed it, nevertheless.
:) Had strawberrys at a beautiful garden in southern Florida! When hubby and I had our first anniversary in Orlando and Disney-world. We actually camped in a campground and they let us pick as many oranges as we wanted. AMK has made me nostalgic.
National Dems coordinating with state parties to push back on GOP's electoral vote rigging scheme: washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-lin…— Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) January 25, 2013
This posted yet? Most likely. Here it is again.
This is really funny, but people (sadly like my Dad who is a sad RWNJ) who didn’t listen to the real speech are likely to believe it! Love my Dad, but he is hateful when it comes to our beloved PBO.
Aww…you should think more highly of your dad. Its pure gibberish…LOL!!
Excuse me but where the hell did this Bad Lip Reading come from? Does it suppose to be funny?
Its been around for a 2-3 years now and yes its satire. They’ve done it to other POTUS speeches and to other people too. Its not an attack on President Obama.
Have only had very brief moments to comment/RT but just now was able to send the following:
Dear @NerdyWonka much admiration for the manner in which you engaged #AnnieLowry & her distortion of the truth. Her #FAIL is now documented.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) January 25, 2013
One suggestion, everyone – be careful about the use of the @reply because that creature has already demonstrated a scummy enough character that she’s likely to claim she’s being spammed by people who either don’t follow her or she has blocked. That drill is being used by many to get good folk suspended.
Awesome Bob! Happily RT’d. And thanks for the tip about the @reply function.
RT’d, thanks Bobfr.
Question for anyone – why are the times so ‘off’ on these tweets? The date is fine, but all seem to show times which are hours away.
huh. you’re right. I’ve never noticed before.
It’s only been like that today I think, with the new tweet format. I was wondering if maybe it picked up the time from the zone in which it was first posted. :???:
I think their GMT calculator is not functioning correctly
Bobfr, please speak in English like a good American! GMT calculator? :???:

Yes, JO’B, very, very good.
I read your tweets, and saw that that Lowery person tried to change the goalposts everytime you nailed them.
but, you persisted, and because of their thin skin, they blocked you.
they thought that they could just publish packs of lies about the President, and everyone would be ok with it.
GREAT WORK, utaustinliberal :)
So much for Virginia trying to change awarding electoral votes in their state. Seems there’s 2 state GOP Senators against it. Well that was quick. There are Fla. GOPers who also say ‘fergedaboutit’.
Because ~ as Rev. Al has to say, daily ~ “We gotcha.” Hope this goes away, since they got caught, but we have to be ever vigilant.
