That sound you hear is GOP smashing their heads against the wall.

    • February 1, 2013 at 12:28 pm

 It’s been a bad day for them Africa – and a bad day for the GOP always means a good day for America!

      • February 1, 2013 at 12:32 pm

Hear, hear!! History will not be kind to this bunch.

What a great roundup Chips. All fantastic news you can’t get anywhere else. None of this made front page news on Yahoo! Can you imagine that? When are we going to demand better journalism? I am so glad I can come here and get the straight talk that there should be in MSM. Thank you. I hope you have an awesome day!

        • February 1, 2013 at 1:17 pm

Hiya Betsy, so much good news today, but as you said, so much of it either under-reported or not reported at all. Bloomberg were surprisingly good! Politico, as usual, were laughable, desperately trying to put a negative spin on every piece of good news. Amazing stuff. Hope you have a blissful day too!

Yea America! We did it without the GOP. They’re no help at all.

  5. February 1, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I shudder to think about how Mittens would have been taking credit for something he had zero to do with. Thank God for the steady hand of PBO. And his consistency is something politicians and historians should be chronicling.

You’re so right AF. Mitt & his cronies knew things were going to get better this year. That’s why he said he wouldn’t have to do anything (the recovery was already cooked in the cake) and that just his presidency alone would bring good economic news. To which I say, Ha! I’ll bet a large part of the consumer confidence is the relief people have that that idiot is not president.

What a great news day – still catching up from the posts on the previous thread. Loving the movement of our economy – thanks PBO! Congrats to Wyoming Carol. Let’s hope the bombing of our embassy in Ankara does not become another Benghazi – SoS Kerry is getting a baptism of fire today

I loved this recap of the Inauguration, put out by Rebuild the Dream with voiceover clips from Van Jones…the subject line for the email was “The End of Reaganism?”:

For those of our “friends” who were salivating that PBO was throwing Hagel under the bus:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Friday that former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), President Obama’s pick for defense secretary, answered questions “appropriately” and did a “fine job” at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee. Carney said the White House expects Hagel to be confirmed.

Carney added that the headlines out of the hearing focused on Republicans “badgering” Hagel on issues like the Iraq War.

They’re not playing around with GOP games.

    • February 1, 2013 at 12:47 pm

Did I miss something LL? Did someone (“friends”) say PBO threw Hagel under the bus? Based on what?
I was thinking of Hagels old “friend” and Vietnam vet buddy McCain. ….McCain threw his friend under the bus, a lot of those repug senators (a place where the republican senator Hagel has once set) were now eating one on their own. Hagel is a man of character but it must hurt him somewhere deep to have his old friends ditch him and have their souls exposed for what they really are.

      February 1, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Thanks, LL. Exactly. The choice of “appropriately” was so appropriate. Ha!

My favorite of all of Hagel’s responses (except for the part where he choked up a little remembering what he learned in Vietnam) was early on when he told McTurd he couldn’t give him a yes or no response since it was “more complicated than that.” Reminds me of how Pres. Obama always says he prefers to wait until he has a reasoned, thoughtful answer of merit (I added some of that) before just spewing out replies to questions on important issues. As in: has something to say before he says it.

There aren’t any underlings over at Defense who will be speaking to Hagel the way those Repukeable senators at the hearing did when he gets there, because the folks at the Pentagon all know the chain of command, know appropriateness, are smart, and are looking out for America’s interests NOT JUST THEIR OWN. Got that, McTurd? #McCainGoHome

I loved it when Jay Carney said (paraphrasing) that some senators were essentially asking Chuck Hagel “Why did you disagree with me?” on (fill in the blank). Seriously, you would think that Chuck Hagel had been nominated for Secretary of State not Secretary of DEFENSE. Jay also pointed out that there were not that many questions about the troops in Afghanistan. Just rehashing of the Iraq war surge and an obsession with Israel and Iran. Unbelievable….

Instead of the media talking about Chuck Hagel performance, they ought to have been talking about the disgusting performance of the Republican Senators. But we know that the media is full of alot of B.S.

Yes! What was wrong with his presentation? He sounded like a normal person to me. I didn’t see all of it, but how do you answer “How often do you beat your wife?” I would distrust a very smooth talker. We’ve had enough them. Remember Rumpsfeld? Yes, that’s how it’s spelled.

This nonsense that Hagel was “unprepared” and did a bad job is BS. He was on that committee when he was in the senate. He was prepared for a hearing like those he was involved in. He was not prepared to be called “Unamerican” he was not prepared to deal with a petulant child/man who is so full of hatred and bitterness after losing an election 4 years ago, he was not prepared to be disrespected by some lunatics who know nothing about foreign policy, and he was not prepared to be running for the job of Isreal’s SecDef. Only Dems seemed to ask questions about the job he is applying for, even then, there was too many questions about Isreal from dems.

    GROUNDHOG DAY FLASHBACK – JUNE 3, 2011

This is why the United States is doomed

The GOP response to the jobs report: The Earth is flat and two plus two equals five

    BY ANDREW LEONARD

    ———————————————————

The Hill reports the House Republican response to Friday morning’s distressing jobs report.

House Republicans pinned the blame for Friday’s disappointing jobs report squarely on the White House, saying the Obama administration’s “over-taxing, over-regulating and over-spending” has stifled economic growth.

“One look at the jobs report should be enough to show the White House it’s time to get serious about cutting spending and dealing with our ailing economy,” Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said.

How many blatant untruths can a Republican speaker of the House stuff into one sentence? Quite a few.

From TPM, re: attack on US Embassy in Turkey:

A veteran of the US Mission to Turkey gives us context on today’s attack. “Every freaking month for the last decade: Mission Turkey has screamed for a new Embassy compound in Ankara, because the one we have is cramped, unsecure, and in poor physical condition (water/sewage system stopped working completely for three days in 2010 or 2011). Our DC paymasters have patted us on the head and said “That’s nice, wait for the money to come in next year’s budget.” When news accounts call Embassy Ankara “one of the most fortified compounds in the city,” don’t believe them. That’s completely untrue.”

I wonder if Congress will hold hearings into its cuts to the diplomatic missions budget?

What was it Hillary said in her interview being reported today…….”Some people don’t like evidence based information……” (paraphrasing) but it was surely a blow at the three stooges…Inhofe, McCain and Graham. Well placed, Madam Secretary, good punch on your way out!

Scott Brown not running is another example of PBO being ahead of the pundits. Many were saying Senator Kerry should not be appointed SOS because Brown would be elected to replace him. It did not work out that way.

[Bad boy, bad boy, whatchu gonna do when they come for you?!]:

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett’s (R) son-in-law, a narcotics officer with the Philadelphia police force, is under investigation after he “was caught on hidden camera, taking money out of a car he was told to search. What Gibson didn’t know, according to sources, is that that the money was planted in the car by investigators,” NBC Philadelphia reports.

Scott Brown’s problem is that the music stopped and he didn’t have a chair, he was never long for the job as Senator. Brown wanted to play a Senator, he just didn’t want to be a Senator, he didn’t want to get into the weeds, at least not like Elizabeth Warren wants to. I guarantee you Senator Warren will know the nuts and bolts of any and every bill that will come across her desk. Brown got swept into office in the 2010 midterms when the voting public was duped into believing that the Republicans had a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Brown didn’t have his own platform to stand on, he wasn’t a true believer like the Tea-Baggers, Brown was a “Sometimer” when it came to carrying the Republican’s Message in that he would wait to see which way the political winds were blowing before making a decision. Now word is that Brown won’t seek Kerry’s old seat, which might be the smartest thing he’s done on the national stage yet. Brown should take a break and concentrate on what he wants to do and go about doing it; he’s already got the Lobbyists instincts. If not Lobbying then Fox News, they can always use a has been.

What a perfect title for this post! Ironic, hilarious, true. Another happy day, no surprises, just more good news that we have to hunt for since MSM is busy investigating Beyonce’s gifts and slanting Hagel’s testimony to fit a soap opera they long to see. Oh, no, sorry, I don’t have to hunt for actual news. I just come to the Obama Diary and —sha-ZAAM!!! Here it is! Thankful for the unsurprising but welcome news, grateful for Chipsticks and all y’all TOD people. Love the Van Jones inauguration video and the Ratings Debacle for certain media outlets masquerading as news sources. Abundance always available at TOD!
