Hallo everyone.
I almost got you, Carol – I just couldn’t figure out what message to post at such a momentous occasion… Congrats!
You will get me next time.
“I just couldn’t figure out what message to post at such a momentous occasion”
Hellooooooo Theo, hellooooooo Carol!
Hey Chips – as you can see, I’m hardly working today…
(Me neither!)
Then, I’m in good company!
(Sssh, our secret)
I hardly ever work.
Ha!
I work for PBO!
If that were the case, then you’d be pretty busy. He’s the “energizer bunny” remember?
Actually I’m on a terror with reporters and Union workers in a right to work State. I do hope LA is the right shortcut. I’m not good at twitter because I have too much character. As you all know I’m terrible at this one finger typing on iPad and I have spell check to blame. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I try to do too much at once. So I go after them on FB. Mostly MSNBC. Until CNN turns over a new leaf or gets rid of Wolffy and puts Jack Cafferty in charge, I have no hope for the others. And then there is my Congress. We’ve now had active John Birchers having meetings in our Library. Haven’t heard their name for over thirty years. Everyone have a great afternoon and evening.
Ps. Lisa Murkowsi of Alaska did say she was open to fixing infrastructure, but also brought up how to pay for it. That was brought up by Superbowl outage.
it’s a start. It should be easy to urge NFL Union players only to play Superbowl with Union workers.
Just a thought. If Rove is fighting unions, so can we. 😈
Romney had a similar problem on election night.
You did it again Carol. Congrats.
Thank you.
That was pure luck. Really!!
Good afternoon Carolmae
And Theo
Hi Almablanca!
😃It is still morning for me for 27 minutes.
Is the shortcut for Louisiana LA? I’m on a terror with what I’m seeing on my news feed from MSNBC on my FB. Pushing for Union! Have a great afternoon.
Yes
Thanks.
I wonder if PBO will lay out any new initiative today, or call for a more active OFA involvement. He is coming to the people, outside of the White House for a reason. I think he should step up to the podium and yell, ‘PULL!’
Oh, you’re bad, Cookemom!
I like it. Just fun to think of the things he could do, but of course what he will do will be classy. And I’m not classy at this age. Everyone should know the gun he was using is an under/over shotgun, not a Rifle. NRA does stand for Rifle. They should be sued for false representation and have their charter taken away. Surely there is a smart lawyer out there who could do that.
is anyone noticing I’m using eyes a lot today? Just can’t think of the right words to use. It keeps my profanity in check.
*And I’m not classy at this age*
Oh, we’re all still classy, carol. We’re just classy in a “different” way, and we save the “real classy” for people who aren’t RWNJs. Ha!
Yes, and thanks to Chips and TODville we can have fun with it because we don’t really mean it. We’re saved from the real loons because of Chips does the hard work of blocking them. It takes forever for me to do it on FB. I usually give up after a couple of posts.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
If you want to be first don’t worry about spelling! Now, to the White House!
Working at home today and stupidly listening to MSNBC in the background… It astounds me that someone like Andrea Mitchell, who struggles to get a sentence out coherently, can critique Chuck Hagel – as though entertaining idiots in the Senate and media is a qualification for running the Defense department. I certainly prefer a person who doesn’t engage idiots, and realizes they are talking to people who are washed up and inconsequential, than someone who would take that Senate hearing seriously. Can he do the job? It would appear so. That’s all I need to see.
Theo, the media is treating Chuck Hagel just like they treated PBO after his first debate. They are laying all of the blame on him by saying that he did not have a stella performance. someone posted a link yesterday about Ted Cruz and the lies he told. It was so much hate generated on that panel for PBO from McCain and his sidekick Lindsay Grahm, via Hagel until it was shameful.
And just like the first debate, it says a lot about the standard by which some judge their elected officials. One cannot place lies, pettiness and rudeness above actual qualities that are required to do the job. If Hagel had “fought back” against he lies and nonsense that was being thrown at him, then what would that mean about his ability to prioritize and focus on things that are actually important to the health and welfare of the troops and the national security of the country. Instead of focusing on the actual wars being fought, and the actual dangers being faced by the national security group today – the media allowed the people in the Senate who are responsible for oversight of these things to focus on their own selfish squabbles and making political theater for their own edification. It’s the same faulty criteria that was used to elevate Romney’s ability to deftly lie to the American people, while the President disengaged from that sheister, and actually answered the questions substantively and honestly in that first debate. The country is ill-served by this media.
Did you listen to the whole day or most of it? I wasn’t able to, but what I heard, he sounded like the Chuck Hagel I’ve always heard. He didn’t mumble, or say anything stupid like the idiots with an R did. They weren’t listening anyway. Did they want him to engage? Andrea even had the audacity to use a phrase he should have used. Put her out to pasture with Greenspan. 😝
I couldn’t listen to right wingers and their madness – so I followed the commentary here and then watched snippets. I saw Andrea Mitchell giving her “Rachel Oval Address” imitation, and just about hurled my TV out the door. And then she struggled to form the next several sentences. Not one single mention of the low quality of questions being posed, of course.
She’s pathetic and I try not to watch her. Ever, but sometimes she slithers in.
Afternoon, Theo. My sentiments about Mitchell exactly. She is the worse newsperson ever. She stumbles and bumbles over ever word then has the nerve to critique others. I really dislike her. She is hateful and like the GOP she shills for, lies constantly.
Proud and Theo, I totally agree about Mitchell. She is way overrated. Most of her ilk think she can do no wrong.
Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) told the Lincoln Journal-Star that he will vote to confirm former Sen. Chuck Hagel’s (R-NE) for secretary of defense.
“In the wake of Hagel’s contentious confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, the green light from Nebraska’s senior Republican senator could be timely and pivotal in helping pave the way for additional Republican support in the Senate.”
.

My bet – he gets 70 senate votes.
Wouldn’t that be loverly?
I think so too!

R from MI …
If someone has not already done so, a tweet needs to go out “That is why the majority of voters did not see you as being qualified to be President included that half-wit-swit VP selection. Together you both would have made half a brain.
When the Republicans are calling you racist you have hit bottom. Amash is kind of stupid, Ayn Rand devotee. This is the first thing I’ve ever agreed with even a little bit. Mostly he disgusts me.
The comments are entertaining.
Continues to validate why he was not elected President. The MSM only hurts his credibility even more by continuing to give him a forum.
McCain is a nasty old man..needs to retire already..
Thanks for sharing. Who was he referring to, the Ayatollah?
President Obama has arrived in Minnesota. Here is a local livestream awaiting President Obama: http://kstp.com/livevideo/videoWindow.shtml?aID=765
Thank you JER!!!
And that’s about as much significance as President Obama gives to anything that crosses McCain’s lips or what’s left of his mind. McCain is destroying himself. Karma – after foisting Palin and her hateful ugliness on the world.
It’s impossible to imagine this man was once ‘respected’ Theo – his bitterness is eating him alive.
I don’t even know if it was respect. It seems he’s always been quite horrific inside, but he was popular at one point, and the media always likes to go with the popular quarterback. It’s like high school for them. Never mind the consequences. It’s why they still give credence to Republican nonsense – even when it’s clear that the country has moved to the center.
True, Theo – the media adored him, the ‘maverick’ and all that crap, but there was probably a time he wasn’t so devoured by bitternes that he could, occasionally, distinguish between right and wrong and work with the other side. Now, he’s just a spiteful, nasty piece of work. Loathe him.
“…his bitterness is eating him alive.”
That and his desperation to stay relevant. Whatever regard he held in the past is fast deteriorating. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him completely lose it one day soon.
Did he ever pass much? I know the McCain Feinstein bill, but that was stripped by SCOTUS, right?
But, I feel sorry for his wife and family. He won’t look the POTUS in the face, I bet Cindy won’t look him in the face heaven forbid let him touch her. From his actions I would diagnose him as a family violence type of guy.
…not to mention the resulting Palin-related reality TV shows….
Watching Palin on her reality shows was probably much like watching the gladiators fight at the Coliseum in the days of old. People like to see a train wreck.
MCCAIN CAN’T STAND THE FACT THAT HE WAS BEATEN BY OBAMA. AT A RECENT MEETING, SAYS A WHITE HOUSE AIDE, “HE WOULD NOT LOOK AT THE PRESIDENT.”
“THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS”
By Todd Purdum – (November 2010)
————————————-
Desperate to keep his Senate seat, John McCain repudiated his record, his principles, and even his maverick reputation, entrenching himself as the anti-Obama. Which raises the issue of whether the leader so many Americans admired—and so many journalists covered—ever truly existed.
—————————————–
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2010/11/mccain-201011
sooo glad McCain and his side kick Palin never got near the WH..we really dodged a bullet..
When on TV, at the second or third debate in 2008……McCain did cross the line with That One…….he caught himself.
He said that ONE while having impure racial thoughts.
Chips – Thank you for tweeting what we were all thinking, although disgusting. (I am reminded, though, that Lincoln was called similar things back in his century.) Can’t stop gagging over McCain and his loony bin comments. Nation (as Stephen Colbert would say), which person’s image and which man are you more proud of – our President and his photo sweetness in this tweet from Chips or any caricature of any sort of John McCain? I vote for the sweetness.
JOB–Glad you brought up the perspective idea. Lincoln was vilified in his time and called every name in the book, as were most Democratic presidents. McCain just does it in a particularly nasty way because he’s managed to con the media into thinking that he’s a celebrity whose opinions need constant attention. He ran for president and lost and he did that far more resoundingly than John Kerry did. Yet John Kerry–the smarter, more level-headed, and far more interesting former presidential candidate–rarely gets air time. All that exposure from the media has given Grumpy an exaggerated image of himself. At this point, if Arizona keeps sending him back to the Senate, he should be relegated to a quiet seat at the back of the Senate floor where he can doze and harrumph to his heart’s content while he dreams his little fantasies of showing “that one” how tough he is.
Well said. Cringeworthy man.
I don’t believe he would ever to do that. Senator MaCain might be a lot of things but racist he is not.
One reason I no longer get too worked up over sporting events: Match-fixing: Champions League tie played in England ‘was fixed’.
Morning, Obots!
Yup. Just enjoy the match, if it was a good one, and then forget about it.
Never!!!!!
I just heard they got the bones of someone. Is it King Richard? Also I saw Malala walk and talk and she can see. She talks very well. She is still beautiful. Very little plastic surgery may be needed.
Yep, they found the remains of Richard III. And he DID have a hunch back, but no withered arm.
He didn’t look too healthy – has he been dead a while?
Multiple sword wounds tend to make a guy less healthy.
Saw the pics, the fella was battle-worn, that’s for sure.
Does this fit what you thought? Are the testing for poison or a disease if that’s possible? Science is passing me by and of course the story was too short.
Well, Richard was killed in battle in 1485, so he didn’t die by poison or disease. There is revisionism current in that now historians are saying that Richard wasn’t the monster portrayed by Tudor propaganda and Shakespeare.
Do you remember all this in your head? I’ve done genealogy research back to him and the Vickings etc and to William the Conguerer, but I can’t remember dates along with names. I don’t think many, including women that didn’t do whatever they need to survive. Yes, I can trace my ancestory to Willian the C. Then a couple fellas on Mayflower. One even was twelfth signer of the Mayflower Pact, but I have to look up dates every time. My other half is Norwegian, so I’m especially bad. They conquered. Lot. It’s on History channel this week. I order DVD because its just easier.
Shakespeare didn’t have much choice than to push Tudor propaganda when he was writing his histories. He wasn’t free to criticize the existing monarchy, so it all had to be slanted to make the Tudor slaughter and barbarity seem justified. If he hadn’t “obliged” the Tudors, he would have had a short career or be banished to some God forsaken place and never heard or seen again. Because he knew how to “oblige” so well, he got a decent retirement and we we got Hamlet and King Lear,
“Hamlet” and “Lear” are worth a little propaganda.
Amen.
The withered arm was first referenced in Shakespeare, who had a penchant for creative writing, go figure.
‘beyond a reasonable doubt’. So cool!
I’d like to thank my fellow Americans for allowing John to remain in the public eye as he travels the world and speaks out on those things in which he so deeply believes. I can’t begin to convey to you how much it means to me that he is able to be out among the citizens of this great country. Though his many travels for the good of the country keeps him away from home, I am forever grateful and more than willing to abide by that small sacrifice.
Sincerely,
Cindy McCain
LOL. Poor cindy
Link?
Oh that was just cookemom channeling Cindy, not a for real quote, but can you imagine her groans when he puts the key in the front door?
That’s why I
after the link, cookemom
Well done!
Notice the sentence “travel for the good of the country that keeps keeps him away from home”? That’s cookemoms tell!
Cookemon, it wouldn’t surprise me if she breathes a sigh of relief any time he’s away from home, though I bet she knows better than anyone what a bag of useless hot air he is and silently laughs at the media for their gullibility.
Hey TODville Community, Guess what questions that the Journos are still fascinated about and are still asking Jay Carney? Well, if your collective answers are Skeet shootings. Bingo.
Now they are asking if he is an expert, etc.
WHY people ask?
I have finally solved it.
Pres Obama has No scandals. Therefore all his actions must be examined, over and over. Then there is the OTHER aspect. The 1st two years were dominated with Obama’s Katrina. They got as high as 9-10 Obama’s Katrina. Now it is how he shuns all in DC, Reporter, Dems and TBGOPers memes. The scrutiny would be worthy if the media would focus on something that actually benefits the population in general. But no. If the Erin Burnett, Yellin, Fox, etc are on it….so long as it demeans this president, their chattering class are all over it. It is easy, lame, lazy and darn it, they get paid very well for their lack of work and substance.
One would think that the country has no actual problems to solve.
Another local livestream awaiting President Obama: http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/live-video/
Thanks JER!!!
From the looks of it, he may be starting early ….
Wonder the temp? Meteorologists?
Funniest thing ever!!!!! I freaked when I saw the first fella arrive, the SIZE of him!!!
Just a bit of entertainment before the Prez speaks, eh?
The perfect build-up, I think!
Ah. The brilliance of photoshopping.
Superb, sailor
Thanks Lootenant.
Brilliant!
Hi Yardarm…this filming took place just a few miles from Vancouver! thanx for posting!
Didn’t know you had Polar Bears that far south.
lol…lots of brown ones, though….Stephen Colbert would love it; not
Love it!
Oh hilarious!
Just don’t show it to kids. They might believe it, eh?
Only kids close by are four legged.
Why wasn’t that on SuperBowl?
I have no idea.
Gee, I thought you would know.
I know some things but not all things!
That’s why TOD makes such a great group.
You betcha.
How come we have not heard from our many Minnesotan TODville Villagers today?
Oh did I miss their greetings already?
She’s very lucky that the intruders didn’t have guns, and that they didn’t wrestle that gun from her.
She actually called 911 and asked if it was OK to shoot them. I can not fault her for defending herself, though I don’t know if I could pull the trigger. I’m a classic example of having a weapon taken from me, then used against me. I believe I’d have my eyes closed the whole time. Of course, a person never knows how they will react until the situation presents itself. I’m sure I would protect my kids on wobbly knees.
cookemom I believe you would conjure up the courage to save your children or grandchildren if that ever happened. However, if you were by yourself, afraid, shaking, and second guessing yourself who knows if you would be able to shoot with assallents rushing at you. Maybe only a warning shot would be enough to keep them at bay until police arrived which is what happened in her case. They saw the gun and fled the scene.
I live in a small city with good police service in SoCal and I have no need for a gun to protect myself in my home. I remember when I first moved to this city and some young guy rang my door bell at 2 am. I looked out the peep hole and did not reconize him so I called the police and told them I did not let this guy into my building, he must have hopped the gate. By the time he walked out the gate, the police was waiting on him. He claimed to be looking for a “cousin”, the police told me he was from Los Angeles but could not give a name of the “cousin” who lived in my unit. They told him to be on his way and if he ever came back here, he’d be arrested. That was over 20yrs ago and I have not had any problems since.
I would rather run out the back door than try a gun battle with my babe in arms. But, you’re right – she did call the police first and ask for permission. I guess my issue with this case is that it lulls people into a false sense of security that they will be the only ones with a gun, and that the presence of their gun may actually escalate a situation if the aggressor also has a gun and decides to react to your gun.
I’ve been robbed at gunpoint. I can attest to the fact that your mind doesn’t work properly when faced with a gun and all the possible conclusions in a situation like that. Unless you’ve crossed the mental threshold of whether you can shoot and/or kill someone, it’s hard to anticipate what you’ll do in that moment. And it’s impossible to interpret what the other person will do. The possibilities of a bad ending are greatly enhanced when a gun is present – in my opinion.
There were TWO homeowners in my condo who were held up with a gun. They were both single women. All they saw was the gun pointing at them, nothing else. Thank God both turned over their purses and the robber took off running. A few weeks later there were people who were shot by the same robber because they hesitated. During 1992 through 1993 we had a rash of robberies and killings until the police department stepped up patrols and arresting folks. From 1995 through about 2007 we had very low crime thanks to our police chief who went to work for PBO in 2009.
Yikes!
hahahahhahahhahahaha!!
Greetings TOD family
Great to hear news of our wonderful President.
I was feeling a bit glum, and then read Smartypants article that mentioned me and got fired up all over again.
http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2013/02/why-we-are-attracted-to-bad-news.html
Recharging my batteries also made me appreciate Chips even more. It is easy to do something for a while, but to do it everyday no matter what for all the years that Chips has had her blog – that is amazing.
I have added an inspirational quote of the day to the blog, some new good news stories, and am featuring a video about gun violence. The Mayors Against Gun Violence has about 50 videos. Some have received thousands of hits hile others under 100. Anything we can do here to support these videos woudl be great. With such wonderful tweeters, bloggers, facebook users and emailers we can help with this cause daily.
Quote of the the day

I love that quote, WiW – and thanks for what you do to keep us focused and positive. Congrats on the honourable mention!
Love everything you wrote, and thanks for sharing the quote. Happy day to ya, no matter what!

Nazi Goebbels’ Step-Grandchildren Are Hidden Billionaires

Carney unleashed! Love the fact that PBO and his team can be more straightforward now that the next 4 years are secured.
Yes, Susan, totally agree. They are able to be their ol’ masterful selves!
White House spokesman Jay Carney said the focus should be on “substance over deadlines,” and Obama has presented numerous plans to reduce annual budget deficits and bring down the nation’s overall debt.
The president “has a proposal that the Speaker of the House is welcome to take up today or tomorrow …which represents balanced deficit reduction,” Carney said.

Heh! And you liberals better keep your damn hands off our Obamacare!
Even when the outcome is good, the first thing I think of is how I hate those bastards. And I don’t like to hate anybody, so I’ll work on it, but I hate those bastards.
Good.
More crow being eaten in Ohio. I hope Jan Brewer choked on hers a couple of weeks ago.
I have the same problem, Jacq! I’ll try and work on it, too, but they sure make it difficult.
Please tell us how you really feel.
Uh, okay. I hate the bastards! But I’m workin’ on it!
I thought so.
I could add my other ol’ standby: “They hate us because they think we think they’re stupid. And we hate them because they’re stupid.”
Goin’ back to pleasant thoughts, now! Life’s too short for those quacks to take up space in me mind.
me, too, Jacqueline!
Yes, I guessed that, Barb! Ha!
mine would include “guts”
Ha! We shall rise above all this (someday!).
BAHAHAHAHA…..desperate times.
Give them a newspaper & latrine!
must have missed it….what is this scandal all about?
Those soldiers look so young.
They’re not soldiers. They’re Marines. Biiiiig difference.
Sorry – I stand corrected!
MARINES! and yes they do! Nice to see women there. The first time embassy duty opened up to women, I was a married, sergeant (E-5). Staff Sergeants and above could be married; Sergeants and below had to be single. The reason for this rule was economic — E-6 and above could take their family with them; E-5 and below could not. I really wanted to be in the first class accepting women, as we had no children, I convinced my husband (also an E-5) to also apply; jointly we requested a marriage wavier and agreed to be assigned to different embassies (we did request to be in the same hemisphere). My husband’s wavier was approved — mine was denied (they didn’t want him worrying about me). Needless to say, as this really wasn’t his dream, he turned down the opportunity.
Goodness – they didn’t make it easy, did they? Thanks for serving. I thought the term “soldier” applied to all military personnel. What do you say when you want to refer to everyone, then?
No, they didn’t. In fact, after the Iranian Embassy was captured, they once again closed embassy duty to women. By time they re-opened it, I was an officer and on a different career path.
All = “service members” “service men” “service women”
Soilders = Army
Sailors = Navy
Airmen = Air Force
Coasties = Coast Guard
Marines = Marine Corps
Thank you for this information – it’s important to get these things right.
Okay – PBO’s about to be introduced.
[Can't wait to see what's under this rock!]:
In Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Corbett (R) will seek re-election next year, but before that happens, he’ll have a special prosecutor investigating his handling of the Penn State child sexual abuse scandal.
.
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/02/04/16839172-mondays-campaign-round-up?lite
The newly elected Attorney General for Pennsylvania today appointed a lead investigator to probe Gov. Corbett’s – her predecessor’s – handling of the Jerry Sandusky child-abuse case. … Corbett, who has promised to cooperate, said last week he is not worried about the probe. “I just think she needs to be careful,” he told Inquirer reporters. … [Was that a threat?!] http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20130204_Probe_into_Corbett_handling_of_Sandusky_case_gets_lead_investigator.html
Sounds like a threat, to me. He should have been more careful with the lives of those poor children who were victimized while he made excuses for predators and their enablers.
That’s the way I read that, JER. Then this in the article:
“While campaigning for the A.G.’s office, Kane criticized Corbett for what she perceived as his slow-response to the Penn State sex-abuse scandal. Corbett’s administration waited 33 months after the first allegations were known to arrest Sandusky.”
He’s a thug.
Ha, it’s Corbett who’d better be careful. Corbett’s polling is in the sewer and Kathleen Kane is not only one tough cookie, she was the biggest vote getter in the state in 2012, surpassing the president. It’s my hope that she flattens Corbett and then runs against Toomey in 2016 and becomes PA’s second Democratic Senator and its first woman.
Jackie, Have you written Toomey on any issues? Ever receive a response? I’ve written him at least weekly, sometimes daily; have NEVER received a response!
No, I have never written to him. I do not care for him. Hope he loses.
Can’t stand him. However, even though I didn’t vote for him, he’s SUPPOSED to rep me too; therefore, I send lots of issues letters to let him know my opinion.
Alycee, the times I’ve written to him, I’ve gotten a bunch of bean curd GOP talking points and a snippy conclusion that he can’t please all his ‘constituents.’ Toomey still acts like a congressman whose constituents are limited to a specific district. As a senator, he’s supposed to give the illusion of listening to the whole state, especially when a majority of the state wants stricter gun regulations. If your constituency is so small, it doesn’t encompass the whole state you’ve got no business being a senator. That’s why I think Kathleen Kane can sink him in 2016, esp. if she nails Corbett.
[LOL!LOL!LOL!LOL! Hiccup! LOL!]:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) opened his campaign headquarters over the weekend, telling supporters his race is the only one in 2014 “with any national significance.”

I don’t know what it is but my President looks extra fine today.
It’s because it’s Monday. (He’ll look just as fine tomorrow, there’s that, but this is my opinion today on the topic.)
PBO goes to Eric Holder: ” what’s your name again?” hahahhahahhahahhahahhahahhahaha!!!
Thank you, Mr. President, for the goodness in your soul.
And thank you for having the smartest agenda for our country. #SaveTheChildren
where is everybody? Is it me?
No, we’re here, listening to our President. Some of us are on Twitter as well.
Ah, okay.
Ah, okay. Thanks Hopefruit.
Good for him for standing up in the middle of winter in Minneapolis! Lovin’ his Obama cap, too.
Love him too J, makes me feel cold just looking at him – and his cap!
And the sleigh he rode in on!
my sentiments exactly! Yay for him…and brrrrrrrrr
According to some of the ‘talking heads’ on tv, Senator Harry Reid has kinda got his nose buried in LaPierre’s butt, and hasn’t even read the Presidents proposal. What I’m thinking is beyond parental guidance.
I would take anything the “talking heads” say with the appropriate amount of salt. They don’t know diddly squat about what Reid has or hasn’t done.
I dunno. Old Harry has an “A” rating with the NRA.
Yes and he also got campaign donations from them. I tweeted him and asked him to verify the accuracy of these MSM reports that he has not read the President’s proposal. I’ll be very very very surprised if I get a response, but at least others on Twitter can see it.
I read this earlier, and it was not about PBO’s plan, but Feinstein’s. I don’t know if people got the info confused, but either way Reid does not need to be dancing around this issue.
“Mayor R.T. Rybak slammed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on cable television Monday for “dancing around” new gun control measures winding through Congress.”
“Rybak, speaking ahead of President Obama’s visit to talk gun control, said on MSNBC that he supports universal background checks and limits on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
“How can Harry Reid, a fellow Democrat — and I’m willing to criticize him — say he hasn’t read the bill?” Rybak asked. “[Sen.] Diane Feinstein, she’s been a mayor. She was there at a shooting. She put her finger in a bullet hole. She knows why we need this action.” http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/189683321.html
We who support the President need to contact Harry Reid’s office. Call, tweet, write, or email him. NOW!!!!!!!!!!
I’m fed up with these dam politicians like Reid
PBO looked very somber. Wonder if something else is up. The topic is certainly serious, but he just seemed a bit somber – even more than resolute.
I would assume it’s because it’s such a serious subject, with the Newtown massacre so recent and on everyone’s minds, the shock behind this new gun legislation push. I am always grateful when I hear him speak, as I was today, that he is our president, someone who is always able to speak so clearly and sensibly about any topic, including this sensitive and important one.
He just met more family members who have had their children and other relatives slaughtered. You know how much of a toll that takes and then he’s got a bunch of jerks in the media and Congress doing everything they can to prolong the carnage. My sense, Susan, is that he is having a very difficult time restraining some major league anger at those folk.
One thing for certain, two weeks into his 2nd Administration he is showing a blunt, resolute, ain’t worried about ‘politics’ stance. He’s going to be fierce from now until the next President is sworn in in ~ 4yrs. PBO will never be a ‘lame duck.’
#FORWARD
Dotster and Bob, you both make a lot of sense. Thanks for the reality check! Love the idea that he’s going to be fierce.
Well said, Bob. I think you’re right on all counts. Of all the obstruction he’s faced, this must be the hardest hurdle he’s faced so far, because obstruction here is almost inhuman and inhumane. For the sake of profits for gun manufacturers? Even refusing to protect police from armour-piercing bullets? After imagining the sight of those poor babies who were shot up in Newtown with high-powered artillery? It’s unbelievable that people put money over safety or allow themselves to be lured into conspiracy theories. It’s a sickness.
Shallow comment: this President gets better looking with each passing day.
Shallow response: Each.Passing.Day.
So, big news on the missus: she goes in for her weight loss class on Saturday. After that, she can schedule her surgery. This is actually happening, folks.
Good luck, LL. I know you’ve both been waiting for this for a while. I hope you have a clear road ahead.
We’re just waiting to start a whole new life. So we’re going up to Paso Robles in two weeks for a last blowout of cheese and wine tasting, and I promised her I’d grill out for her before she has to start her pre-surgery liquid diet.
Excellent!
best wishes for the both of you
Best wishes for you both.
All the best to her, LL!
Best wishes to you both, L.L.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step……Fair winds and following seas.
I agree, it should be President Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, please!
I sent Piers an email about this.
[Who knew the Boston Herald is keeping up it's comedy streak! Their crazy search to find a Repub for John Kerry's seat leads them to ...]:
“I’ve had several people call me and ask about Ann Romney,” Ron Kaufman, a longtime friend and aide to the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 presidential candidate nominee, told the Herald.
.
http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_politics/2013/02/brown_out_gop_mulls_romney_energy
Good luck with that. Didn’t Romney lose ALL his so called home states?
The people in MA did not want to “RE-ELECT” Rombot for Gov why would they want ANY Rombot representing them ever again…..comedy is right.
This Rombot has just as much baggage as his father. They are all crooked.
THAT HAS to be a joke, yes? Can you even imagine. OMG.
Romney “ENERGY”…….I never saw any…..did anyone else? That idea is pathetic for the Repubs if they’re looking for energy LOL
Lovin’ the women police chiefs around the country. They earned those positions big time, I’m sure.
Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau was confirmed as the new chief in 2012. A member of the force since 1987, Harteau, who was nominated by [Mayor] Rybak and is the city’s first female and first openly-gay police chief, already served as deputy chief, inspector, and patrol bureau commander.

Excellent. She’s firing on all cylinders.
Yes, she is ~ pun intended, I’m sure!
Another “first female police chief,” this one in Forest Grove, OR ~
In loose, unplanned remarks to those gathered at the event, [Chief Janie] Schutz told officers to relax. “I’m a cop’s cop. I’ve been that way my whole life” … She wasn’t coming to town to make their job harder. Her aim instead is to support the officers in their field work by handling the stuff a chief needs to keep her eye on. Then Schutz, wearing a Forest Grove Police uniform, struck another humble note: she wants to get a marked patrol car. Until then, she’s going to be spending time with officers, seeing what their strengths are on the street. “If I ask to ride with you, don’t get nervous,” Schutz said with a smile.

(Lots more, but I’ll leave it at that.)

Wow.
Damn.
If these are U.S. viewers, that’s one-third the country, from those estimates … who also saw the President’s interview and other good stuff!
No. 108M plus didn’t watch pres Obama’s interview. It was done way before the super bowl. At 3:36pm. The super bowl started at 5:00pm…..both times ET zone. PBO probably had 17M viewers or better like the last times he had done this type of interview. TVbynumbers.com would usually have the ratings.
Okay, thanks. Was thinking all the pre-game shows would bring more in, but I’ll take the 17M or better viewers!
Apparently all my second graders did. They all looked hungover this morning.
McConnell not ruling out Hagel filibuster, says opposition to nominee ‘intensifying’
Jeremy Herb – 02/04/13 02:28 PM ET
An aide to Sen. Cornyn last week said “all options are on the table” when asked if GOP senators would…
Filibustering a Sec Def nominee!
This is Schumere fault for proposing that watered down filibuster reform. Now, they are going to use it right out of the box!!
McConnell blows a lot of smoke…….I’l never forget his boast about President Obama’s one term…..
if they do it, they’ll get nuked … they’ve been warned ….
I accidently heard Schmuck Todd this morning say that he wouldn’t be an effective Secretary of State because he would need to be able to work with Congress. Frankly, if McCain has survived the Senate, Hagel should do just fine.
It would be nice if, just once, the likes of Chuck Todd would think about the need for Congress to work with the President, since their legislation only becomes law if the President actually signs it. They don’t do their jobs, so they forget that they’re the ones who are supposed to be writing the legislation – not just waiting for the President to do their jobs so they can obstruct him.
Harry Reid is losing my respect again. With the lackluster fillibuster reform and then walking back the assault weapons ban, I am very disappointed in his leadership.
Jackie I agree with you about Harry Reid. He is one of those politician who is in the hip pocket of the NRA and it seem like to me people like Joy would be more piss about that than a picture of President Obama skeet shooting. If nothing is done about gun control it will be because of politicians who fear the NRA more than they fear doing the right thing.
Nutless Harry Reid figures in it too.
So, a man signs up to fight in a war that most of those who oppose him never did. He gets blown up and wounded, walking around to this day with shrapnel in his head. He fights valiantly, winning awards. He spend a lifetime in public service, and also racks up an impressive record as a business person. He objects to sending troops to die in vain in an illegal war that has been proven to be failing, and sides with the country that the better person for the job is not the one who’s been his friend for decades. He shows integrity, and signs up to serve as Defense Secretary, because he cares about the people in the military, the wars in which we’re engaged, the military agenda. And the GOP (and media) object to him because he didn’t bow down to McCain to proclaim that McCain was right in a surge that has been proven not to have been effective?
This country is in trouble with the GOP endangering the country at every turn.
For McCain to sit there and disrespect this man made me sick. This from a man that crashed five planes as a pilot, who never should have made it as a pilot during the Vietnam war but for his high-up connections, and from a man who, though made out to be a war hero, also was nicknamed “song bird” by the Vietnamese when he was captured. Hagel deserves far better than this, especially from McCain.
So the NRA want to arm six and seven year olds along with the teachers.
the parents should be held responsible to include court house hearing and substantial fine. Child should also face serious consequences (suspension, psych evaluation and community service).

I hope they throw the book at him.
I am only surprised that it took him this long.
I can see Tweety spitting on his show today about this.
One thing I can say about Tweety is that, he does not like discrimination and denograton of anyone.

Its a done deal. Cochran R- MS Johans R-NE are yes votes makes 57 w/ dems. Blunt and now McCain say no to filibuster. Count Murkowski and or Collins. They wont even bother filibustering now. Congrats Sec of Defense Hagel. And PBO for calling their bluff.
Thank God!
Oh, thank God. Anybody know what happened. That little guy must be completely traumatized. I hope he gets the best and most sensitive care.
Praise the Lord!
thank heaven–my heart has been gripped around this child’s safety.
