This is a wonderful thing to do for the families of these heroes. We rightly focus on the families of the little children, but these were wonderful adults who deserved to live their lives and instead sacrificed them for those in their care. They must never be forgotten.

Rove is going after King; he thinks that if Steven King wins the primary, the dems will keep the Senate seat.
I really really hope that Rove’s money won’t succeed in blocking King… But even if Rove does succeed in making a less radical candidate win the primary, I’m confident dems will come out ahead anyway. This is Iowa, and democrats, thanks to President Obama, will have a big grassroots organization ready to work.

I just finished writing my new piece on sequestration for TPV which riffs on the “sequestration now, sequestration forever” gambit Cole is running. No, he has no there there.
Wanna bet that republicans will sing a different tune when all the lobbyists “work” on them ?
I’m pretty sure that President Obama’s strategy is to obtain some cuts in defense spending, but cuts based on the ones recommended by the Pentagon (on obsolete arms programs, etc.). What he proposed in the sequester is bigger than what he wants; this gives him and democrats some leeway in the negotiations.
I think that President Obama is counting on the lobbyists of the defense contractors to push for less defense cuts, so republicans will have to accept to close some tax loopholes to raise more revenue.
It will be interesting to watch…

Dear Chuck, this was basically President Obama’s idea: everybody would HATE it, so this would FORCE people to negociate. And this would force republicans to accept some new revenue. I’m optimistic it will work.
Subject: Tequila!

February 15th is a special day for me. It was my dad’s birthday. He passed on last year on March 9th and he had just turned 94. Even though he was around a long time and I was lucky to have him that long, I still miss him so much. I am honored that this wonderful act will take place on such a wonderful day.

About the only vacation that wasn’t a fishing trip to Northern Minnesota during my growing up years in Iowa was a trip to the East coast one year with a stop in New York City to see Diahnn in No Strings, the Broadway musical. I was such in awe of her and that show, wore out the soundtrack record album. Remember record albums?

The Obama administration is poised to launch trade talks with the European Union that would form a $5 trillion trans-Atlantic free-trade zone.
European Union Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht will meet with Obama administration officials Tuesday and Wednesday to work toward announcing the talks, which many observers expect could happen this week.
