i know about the white papers, I also know about the idiot liberals running off their fool mouths. I just don’t see why PBO feels the need to release those documents. There was obviously a reason he didn’t release them a year and a half ago when they were sued for the release of those papers. why release them now because a bunch of loud mouths are whining?

He’s releasing it to congress members on the committee who are entitled to see certain classified documents. He’s not just releasing it wily-nily to the public.

        • 34 lisalovesobama
          February 6, 2013 at 9:45 pm

I don’t see it that way. He’s a constitutional lawyer who kept this secret for 4 years when he could have released it at any time. Obviously, he didn’t believe it should be released. In fact, the Justice Department bent over backwards to pretend that this didn’t exist. nothing has changed in the year and a half since the DOJ was asked for/sued for this information. In fact, if the ass who leaked the white papers hadn’t done so, no one would be talking about this now. Also, there’s no reason for congress or the media to know anything in those documents other than rank nosiness and prurient curiosity. Instead of imposing themselves on PBO’s area of expertise, why don’t they do the jobs they were elected to do i.e.: pass a jobs bills, gun control, immigration, etc. The press are just a bunch of vultures looking for the next shiny object i.e.: the white papers. The American people don’t care about this– it’s no scientific poll, but i’ve been going around asking people about this and they couldn’t give a flying fuck. The first think they tend to say is: “he’s a terrorist. doesn’t matter where he was born.” they are well aware, contrary to what The Cow has been mooing about, that this document doesn’t allow PBO to drag regular Americans out of their beds to face execution. For them, a terrorist by any other name or origins is still a terrorist. the media’s interest in this is to find something bad about PBO to smear him with, congress’s interest in this is that they are a bunch of lazy slackers who don’t think they should do their own jobs, but monitor what PBO is doing. Would that many of them had thought of babysitting GW before they jumped on his war bandwagon.

          • 35 nathkatun7

” In fact, the Justice Department bent over backwards to pretend that this didn’t exist. ”

This is not entirely true, Lisa. Last year, AG Eric Holder publicly discussed the underlying rationale for the drone policy. The Media and Congress did not pay attention because somehow the use of drones to eliminate Al Qaida leaders was not seen as an issue that Republicans could run on and win against President Obama. Can you Imagine Romney running on an issue that he is against using drones to eliminate terrorists who are bent on killing innocent Americans? Now that the President was re-elected, his enemies, both on the right and the left are busy looking for any excuse to attack him.

Unfortunately, whether you and I like it or not, Congress, through its oversight powers under the Constitution, is entitled to know what’s is in the documents. Now that Congress requested the documents, I see no reason why President Obama should be attacked for complying with Congressional request. In a Democracy, a President is not a dictator. He cannot arbitrary refuse to comply with Congressional oversight requests for documents. As far as I am concerned, the fact that the President is willing to release these documents means that he is very confident about the legality of his policies.

Having said that, I still share your disgust with the Press and Congress. They are not looking for TRUTH. All they are looking for is to create a scandal to pin on President Obama. Like you, I wish the media and Congress would focus on solving real problems confronting Americans instead of peddling manufactured scandals.

Clarification, I’m not attacking the president for making this decision. I’m stating my disagreement with his action. Also, this is not the first time congress has asked for this information and PBO didn’t give it to them then. I’m also aware of the fact that we live in a democracy, the point is, he never gave them the info a year and a half ago and every other time they asked Holder about it, I’m curious about the calculation now. There’s a video of Holder testifying before a committee and I think Leahy (?) tries to ask him about it and Holder awkwardly steps away from the topic by given like a one or two word answer. That’s what I’m talking about, not the issue of drones, but the killing of so called ‘American’ terrorists which is what all this hullabaloo is all about.

Lisa – I don’t know enough background to leave other than a generic response, but please allow me to say that circumstances change, we don’t know what they were, and President Obama has made a strategic decision which has resulted in the current outcome. Not sure if that helps answer part of the questions you have, because it’s so generic, but it’s all I got! More light may be shed on all of this in the coming days.

I apologize if I suggested, or somehow implied, that you were attacking the President. I’ve read over my comment and I just can’t find any thing I wrote that accused you of personally attacking the the President. My beef was with the media and not you. My terse comment about democracy was to highlight the reality that the President’s actions are not immune from Congressional oversight, no matter how idiotic the people conducting the oversight may be. Obviously I was not clear; otherwise you would not have concluded that I accused you of attacking the President.

If, as you assert, the President and the AG refused to share information before about ‘American terrorists” but are now sharing it then I have no answer. My hunch is that it may have to do with the fact that the Senate has to confirm the nominee to be the Director of the CIA who may have been personally involved in devising the policy about how to treat ‘American terrorists.’

Hey nathkatun, I was clarifying because I hoped I didn’t come off as sounding like the ‘Obama caved’ PL bullpokie crowd. The last thing I wanted was for one of my few disagreements with PBO’s action to seem as though I’ve lost faith in his ability to do his job well. Once I read your statement, I realized that I could come off that way so I made my clarification. You didn’t say I was attacking PBO, but I guess that was my own projection. Thanks for sticking it through with me.

If that happens, it will be the liberal’s own doing. It’s like there is nothing else worth debating. Whatever happened to gun control? Can’t they give updates on ACA? Why this obsession with drones? I thought we were supposed to take out not only al-Qaida but also its supporters. Where is the issue?

Thank you.

Who do you trust with drones?

…rules play an important role in any organization, no matter how large or small. They become the tools by which people in an organization hold each other and their leaders accountable…Its on us as citizens of a democracy to elect someone that we trust to abide by the rules.

And the drone nonsense – the GOP and the media still searching for something – anything – negative about the President. The media continues to support them – they just can’t accept that the blah guy is a good guy – all the time. I hate that a country’s defense strategy/operations are thrown up by the media for the world to see – if ever there is a way to cause world wide issues this is it. The GOP really hates their President at this point in time & will forever use anything against him – trying to destroy the US both internally and externally in the process.

    • 74 lisalovesobama
      February 6, 2013 at 8:55 pm

I hadn’t heard it was the GOP. there was an article on one of the previous threads about Boner agreeing with some establishment GOP foreign policy congressman’s letter about there being nothing wrong with the program. I agree with you though. the media and the regular members of congress don’t need to know anything about this? what’s the purpose? Civil liberties groups will comb through the papers and then sue the government for whatever the fuck dumbass liberal bullshit they can come up with. asses.

        February 6, 2013 at 9:28 pm

The same liberals who pretended they didn’t want Mittster Romney to win and celebrated happily on November 6 are now out with a zealous fervor on the President. For what? For wanting to protect the American people from Al Queida and its supporters, whoever they may be.

        I simply don’t get it.

      • 76 lisalovesobama
        February 6, 2013 at 9:32 pm

that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with questioning PBO’s decisions nor is there anything wrong in disagreeing with a move he makes. I happen to disagree with this one given the fact that the same congress people he’s releasing this info to can’t be trusted to wipe their own butts, but as you intimated, it’s his decision.

        February 6, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Lisa – the GOP will stir anything that is against the President. The right wing blogs/news are now talking non stop about drones – taken over from Benghazi.

It is, however, good to see that the press must be thinking the internal/budget issues are all positive for the President

War Of Words Between Nutter Administration And Blue-Collar Workers Union Continues

The Nutter administration is asking the state Supreme Court for a ruling on whether they can impose its final contract offer on District Council 33, saying a decision in the lower court would have been appealed anyway. Union Chief Pete Matthews called this move and its possible implications an assault on all public sector unions.

    ***********************************************

Why Negotiate if you can just have the courts decide what a contract will be…this is not bargaining in good faith…it cuts at the core of collective bargaining

I say to Roger Simon: just imagine how socially and politically advanced America would be if we didn’t have “dumb” media pundits, like Dick Morris, who routinely misinform their readers, viewers and listeners.

Rachel and Ed need to have their heads check.

I don’t know what’s getting into the two of them. Since when they’ve turned into Ministers of Defense??? It is very clear to me that going after those who want to harm us will involve collateral damages and unfortunate casualties. Furthermore, I don’t think the nature of one’s passport warrants an alternative treatment once it has been proven that an individual is a member of al-Qaida. Anyone who is defending the fate of Al-Awlaki has ulterior motives.

” I don’t think the nature of one’s passport warrants an alternative treatment once it has been proven that an individual is a member of al-Qaida. Anyone who is defending the fate of Al-Awlaki has ulterior motives.”

All I can say, NCLB, is: “Amen!”

As far as I am concerned, the President is obligated to use every means necessary to protect Americans. And, if an American citizen joins Al Qaida (or any other terrorist organization), and he is actively plotting to inflict death and destruction on Americans, then I say that the President is justified in using any and all means necessary to take him out before he is able to inflict bloodshed and mayhem on innocent people.

I thought traitors to the country were always reviled? Why is a man who chose to join a terror organization, dedicated to killing massive numbers of Americans, now being emulated as symbol of human rights struggle?

    Good evening
My favorite Bob Marley song is Exodus. I first heard and danced to it many moons ago. I had to flip the channel on Rachel; can’t stand her yelling and screaming. WTF do these firebaggers want?

Everyone have a nice evening. I’m going to treat myself to pizza and milk. :) It’s a constellation prize to listening to all the drone hate talk since Monday. Bill Press is a hypocrite. This morning he said he had nothing against drones; but doesn’t want Americans killed . Oh, he also wants to know who is the higher authority giving the order for drone strikes. Maybe he’ll join his buddy Dennis over @ POX News after Current goes off air.

Oh Chips, you have no idea – absolutely no idea what you did to me with this Bob Marley tribute. Thanks so much, You have me digging into my archives. My first intro to Mr. Marley was through Kaya (the song that is – I was a child vacationing in Canada and singing along quite innocently, having no idea what it meant, but that is not the point right now).

My all time favorite is No Woman, No Cry, but since you started this here goes:

    – Who the Cap Fit
    – Roots, Rock, Reggae
    – Iron Lion Zion
    – Coming In From the Cold
    – Johnny Was
    – Sun Is Shining
    – So Much Trouble in the World
    – Time Will Tell (“Jah will never give the power to a bald head…” Wooooooooo!)
    – One Drop
    – Natural Mystic

My favorite Bob Marley lyric though is from “Buffalo Soldier”: “When I analyze the stench, to me, it makes a lot of sense.”

I don’t blame VP Biden. Talking to people who get elected, swear to serve the people, and that have to be begged to do the right thing after seeing 20 six year olds get blown to bits just because they went to school that day?! It’s not normal.

Yes, theo67 you are so right on with your comments about VPBiden’s reactions. I just will never understand how some of these people sleep at night. These were little precious kids who did not even have a chance at defending themselves. It brings me to tears every time I think of their teachers trying to shield them and trying to place them as safely away as possible. Then we have these coward people in Congress hiding behind whatever shit they are hiding behind, rather doing the right thing, tears my heart out of my chest.

I know as president, POB’s heart is so full. He can’t do this alone, and that is why we here are committed in doing all that we can to help him and VP Biden. I believe he will do everything in his power to ask us to help him do the right thing. It is going to be hard, but our TOD family will stand up for all children all over this nation. It hurts so much.

Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., said ,:”Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Also another one: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’ t see the whole staircase.” Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.

Jovie, the people who make the most noises are not liberals or progressives. They’re sensationalists who thrive on outrage. If they’re in the media, they have calculated that the outrage will bring them more exposure. I want to see the outrage at the lives lost through gun violence, the needless deaths that occur when Republican governors refuse to extend Medicaid, the wasted lives in so many urban areas and in the economically dead parts of our states where meth addiction is rampant. The ones who are the most rabid in their criticism of the president have never had to deal with terrorists threats and never had to make tough decisions about protecting the country. They have zero credibility on this issue and should be ignored and scorned. I will not waste one second of my time listening to them. If they want to change the way our defense is run they can do the hard work of running for president. Then they might have my attention.

HZ, Thank you so much for sharing this. As much as I detest Republicans, I think Rep. Mike Rogers was honest and forthright. Mrs. Greenspan appeared to be very angry that the Republican Congressman steadfastly refused to trash President Obama. Mrs. Greenspan is obviously an Obama hater and has no business pretending to be an objective journalist. This woman tried every angle to lead the Republican Congressman to denounce the President without much success. To repeat, Mrs. Greenspan was visibly angry that Rep. Mike Rogers refused to buy into her outrage against the President. Kudos for Rep. Mike Rogers for putting the safety of Americans above partisan politics and media hatred of President Obama.

Like you, I am grateful that we have a president who is not afflicted with amnesia. 9/11, as well as other horrific terrorist attacks, proved, beyond a shadow of doubt, that Al Qaida loyalists have no qualms slaughtering innocent people. I wholeheartedly support all means necessary to prevent Al Qaida from inflicting death and mayhem on other innocent people. I am totally pissed that some armchair media pundits are working feverishly to turn the President’s determination to protect Americans into a major scandal. SHAME ON THE USELESS U.S. MEDIA! I wonder….if Rachel and Ed and the gang of holier than thou complainers had been given the opportunity to send a drone to kill Timothy McVeigh ,before the Oklahoma Bombing, would they have done it? If they could have stopped Sandy Hook with a drone, what would they choose to do?….Aurora or Columbine or Tuscon?….yes, all of those acts of terrorism were committed on American soil by Americans but what if? How many lives have been saved by drones without putting a single boot on the ground? Now I am not suggesting that drones be used for crime control but just thinking, I know what I would have done.

Well said Bob! Like you, I am thankful that media pundits like Mrs. Greenspan. Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz are not the ones entrusted with making decisions about protecting our people. These pundits have a very easy privileged life, with virtually no responsibilities. All they do is go on T.V. and trash the President and then collect their six or seven figure incomes at the end of the year. If terrorists attack America, as they did on 9/11/01, they are not the ones who will be held responsible.

As far as I am concerned, I could care less about the opinions of these self-indulgent media pundits, some of whom pretend to be serious journalists. On this issue of using drones to eliminate terrorists who are plotting to kill innocent people, I am 100% in support of the President. I want him to take the terrorists out before they can be able to slaughter people as they did on 9/11!

“If he’s amazing, she’ll be amazing.
If she’s amazing, he’ll be amazing.
If he’s worth it, she won’t give up.
If she’s worth it, he won’t give up.
If you give up, you’re not worthy …

    from gopolitico

Republicans and Fox News are moving to purge the controversial political creatures they created.

Both were damaged badly in 2012 by loud, partisan voices that stoked the base — but that scared the hell out of many voters. Now, the GOP, with its dismal image, and Fox News, with its depressed ratings in January, are scrambling to dim those voices. To wit:

Fox ousted contributors Sarah Palin and Dick Morris, two of the most obnoxiously partisan figures on the network’s air.
Karl Rove, himself sidelined by Fox after the election, has helped start a new super PAC, the Conservative Victory Fund, designed to keep controversial conservatives like Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) from winning Senate primaries.
Senate GOP leaders created what amounts to a buddy system with their caucus’s most popular tea party members, Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas, to get their help in taming anti-establishment conservatives.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has been running around the country warning anyone who will listen that Republicans must quit being the “stupid party” that nominates nutty candidates.

    ///

At various points, many of those celebrities, all with Fox contracts, were at or near the top of Republican presidential polls: Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Palin and Mike Huckabee. But by the end of campaign, Fox could seem like an alternate universe, one in which the Benghazi killings were the most important story in America and Mitt Romney, contrary to public polls and Fox’s own polls, was on his way to winning the election. While ratings were strong, the network had a bumpy election night, capped off by Rove taking to its air to argue that everyone else was premature in calling Ohio for President Barack Obama. Rove, who recently had his Fox contract renewed, saw his appearances scaled back after the scene.

    ///

Still, it’s a lot easier to talk about change and shake up the cast of characters than to authentically change. A number of conservatives think Rove and establishment bullying are the problem with the GOP, not bombastic personalities on Fox or in isolated campaigns.

Steve Deace, a prominent conservative talk-radio host in Iowa, took to POLITICO’s pages to eviscerate Rove and his effort, calling him the “demolition man.”

“Rove’s prominent and annoying display on Fox News as the Republican ruling class’ mouthpiece and his new effort aimed at defeating the Tea Party makes him the point man for destroying the very conservative movement that made him a national name in politics in the first place,” Deace wrote.

So a political colonoscopy is going on before our eyes. Republican after Republican told us the party dodged a bullet with Mitt Romney’s loss: If he had squeaked in, this vital reboot would have been delayed four or eight years.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is an independent civilian intelligence agency of the United States government. It is an executive agency and reports directly to the Director of National Intelligence,[7] with responsibility for providing national security intelligence assessment to senior United States policymakers. Intelligence-gathering is performed by non-military commissioned civilian intelligence agents, many of whom are trained to avoid tactical situations. The CIA also oversees and sometimes engages in tactical and covert activities at the request of the President of the United States.[8] Often, when such field operations are organized, the U.S. military or other warfare tacticians carry these tactical operations out on behalf of the agency while the CIA oversees them.[9] Although intelligence-gathering is the agency’s main agenda, tactical divisions were established in the agency to carry out emergency field operations that require immediate suppression or dismantling of a threat or weapon.[10]

The CIA succeeded the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), formed during World War II to coordinate espionage activities against the Axis Powers for the branches of the United States Armed Forces. The National Security Act of 1947 established the CIA, affording it “no police or law enforcement functions, either at home or abroad”.[11][12] Through interagency cooperation, the CIA has Cooperative Security Locations at its disposal. These locations are called “lily pads” by the Air Force.[13][14] The primary function of the CIA is to collect information about foreign governments, corporations, and individuals, and to advise public policymakers, but it does conduct emergency tactical operations and carries out covert operations,[15][16] and exerts foreign political influence through its tactical divisions, such as the Special Activities Division.[17] The CIA and its responsibilities changed markedly in 2004. Before December 2004, the CIA was the main intelligence organization of the U.S. government; it was responsible for coordinating the activities of the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) as a whole. The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 created the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), which took over management and leadership of the IC.

    Lovely. Lovely.

War is my favorite Bob Marley song. If he was alive today, he would be singing the also about the plight of the Palestinians and what is going on today and their living conditions.

68 yrs old, Bob Marley would have been. He died way too young. His songs and words would live on for Eternity.
