It is not a complicated ‘policy’ issue. If you denounce your US citizenship and then in any way actively participate in Acts of War against the United States of America, you are an enemy warrior. That’s what al-Awalki willfully decided to do and then DID. Only law governing his treatment are the four treaties and three protocols that comprise the Geneva Conventions. Using mechanisms that ensure high reliability of an intended target and that minimizes collateral damage and keeps our troops out of harms way is the best way to deal with an enemy warrior like al-Awlaki.

My argument against that at the time was it does not take many years of doing the same job over and over again to get experience. PBO is a quick study. He also had been in a state Senate for 7+ years, wags an author, taught Constitutional law, worked in a law firm and was a community organizer. Those varied jobs served him well as qualifications for POTUS.
