Congrats on first
Thank you what is working.
Congrats carolmaewy for #1, and to WIW for a close second.
Thank you Hopefruit. WIW was close wasn’t she? Just one by a nose. 👃
Yes, I know it’s won, not one. My fingers don’t. There is something wrong with my synapses. Just pulled that word out of nowhere.
Thank you so much. I’ve been bopping to your Grammy tunes until I got on my horse and rode to the new blog. Whinny! Calm down Black Beauty, calm down. Whinny.
I’m just a Shout Away. 👣 I’m just a Shout Away. I have small feet.
My thanks to you also Dudette- as you know I wanted to view the performances last night but couldn’t.. so thank you for posting many of them
You are both most welcome!
Wow! That’s old.
Good morning all, can’t wait till tomorrow
A new pope?
You looking at me, Jay?
He’s looking RIGHT at you!
Shoot, shoot. Is that the right word?
Darn, I wish I could delete my posts sometimes. I thought I wrote Whoot, Whoot.
It’s okay, just family here. Perfection is not required.
It most certainly IS, Missus!
Well for Blog Divas, most certainly, perfection goes without saying. I stand corrected, my liege!

I like the feathers. Nice touch!

Yes, I stutter.
Something tells me there should be an image there, but I only two little square boxes.
Scroll up, I left you gift.
Yes, there are little pics, so sorry you can’t see them. Some people can, some can’t. Thank you so much. I feel like it’s my birthday. So glad CBS didn’t shut down YouTube clips. The music puts me in a great mood. I liked JLo’s leg better than Angelina in photos anyway.
Did they come from some particular kinda of software? Maybe I can install it.
The app just says Emoticoms. I’ve had for awhile and I must have seen an add on FB. It was free of course.
Ahh… a Facebook thing. No FB for me. Sorry.
Yeah, I know.
I am so sick of this cable and msm media always trying to start negative stories against the President. I am shocked what cspan has become too.. Tomorrow at the state of the union coverage, analysts are going to be from 2 right wing pundits(GOP) and a so called dem from huffpost.
Since steve took over from Lamb, it has been pro gop all the time.
On Cspan? No, I so miss Brian, can’t remember his last name. He was great. Asked great questions.
Lamb. Brian Lamb.
Yes, thank you. Names just slip away while I’m writing!
Linda, as long as they shut up during the speech I don’t care what they do. My tv will go off the minute the president leaves the House floor.
Have you heard about this? Hillary’s lap dog, Mark Penn has teamed up the BING and Fox News to conduct a live online-as it happens poll during PBO’s SOFU speech tomorrow night! I suggest we need to get the word out and participate in this or the nut jobs will have their way with the “facts” in real time. Anybody?
The media has coordinated an all out attack on PBO’s SOTU speech. I guess they’re almost looking to re-create some kind of atmosphere similar to that of the post-1st debate in October 2012. I’m prepared to push back on their BS.
well we all have learned that when the gop & the media get together to trash POTUS its because they are in a big bad state of fear… this SOTU has them shaking in their boots by the looks of its.. !
Yes – they are VERY afraid! They are all scrambling…
yep… POTUS has everything to gain by coming out hard fast and strong on all his policies.. WE WON and He knows it. Media & GOP lost lost lost.
Please, post your thoughts in twitter and blog. I don’t think fast and can’t keep all the facts with the backup info in my head. I would so appreciate it. I wanted to watch it on Cspan and have the WH web site on mute so I could see the charts. Our little County Dems are having a Watch Party, but at a restaurant. I get too distracted with background noise and need to be fairly close to TV to see. Thanks to TODville, I’m sure we will have a great after party. Couldn’t use my iPad at Watch party either. It’s become an appendage. thanks so much to Chip and her friends.
In a sense Hillary is the lap dog of Mark Penn. He made a fortune off her campaign while doing a horrible job running it. Penn was hired by Microsoft to make them more socially relevant. He knows how to work the system.
Good points, Bill.
Good Morning TOD family
I wanted to give you a quick update on the new OFA – Organizing for Action.
I am jazzed, I think this new iteration of the organization will be wonderful. Over 1100 SOTU watch parties are being held tomorrow. I was on a call about it last night. Geoff Berman the former OFA leader for the state of NY led the call. They are unleashing the power of the old OFA and it is very exciting. We will be working on immigration, gun violence and a budget that supports the middle class.
Last week I had 5 folks signed up for the SOTU party, I now have over 30. My project for the day is to rent some chairs and remove dog hair.
If you were a member of OFA last year, get involved again. If you weren’t able to work on OFA – you now have a second chance. The folks who get involved are hard working supporters of the President – you will love them.
To find an event near you go to
https://my.barackobama.com/page/event/search_simple – enter your zip code.
Thanks for posting this, WIW! OFA can be a powerful lobbying force when we speak with one voice to have the President’s back on the issues you mentioned above and more to come.
Exactly, I am so glad they are ramping up.
Hi Linda! Good luck with your SOTU party. It should be fun, as well as productive watching with like-minded people. I got an invite re a party but since it’s all the way in Texas – where I was for a while in the summer – I had to pass .
We are having one in our little town at a restaurant. Don’t know how many they are expecting. Our team leader was nominated for the Nellie Tayloe Ross award this year at the State of WY Dem meeting. So proud of her. Nellie was the first woman Governor but we haven’t had another. Do you know why WY was the first State to allow women to vote? They wanted to become a State of the United States and there were not enough men to get to the number of votes they needed. So, wala. Women could vote.
I guess you have to take your victories however you can find them. Glad to hear WY will be helping us.
Oh we helped turn CO blue!
Okay I’m flipping a coin – shall I listen to VPJoe or shall I watch the clown press corps show? Hmmm. Decisions, decisions. I think I’ll think about it some more while doing something completely different, like moving the furniture around.
Well, VPJoe’s event is a Round Table discussion, so there’s likely to be some nutbaggers at the table with him.
You know, equal time and blah, blah, blah… FREEDOM!
Hellooooo there, Dudette, my dear! Did you finally make it in to work relatively close to your starting time? I’m not sure I’m in the mood to listen to even one nutbagger, from the press or not, so I really am going to move at least one piece of furniture. That way I can feel a little less guilt and a sense of accomplishment, at least for today.
Yep, just barely. Gotta grab something to munch now before lunch break is over. Yes, I put TOD before food. [hmm, sounds like a new hashtag]
Be careful with that furniture. Bend at the knees and slide it when possible.
Can you believe |I actually did it? I really did! Instead of watching/listening to the possible nutjob questions I ripped up half the hallway carpet AND moved my huge (unfinished) treadmill (base). I now feel quite proud and accomplished, which means I can spend the rest of the afternoon online recuperating, except for cooking supper of course. And yes Dudette, I did remember to bend my knees and slide – the only way I would have been able to move the treadmill on my own! Now I’m awaiting the flooring contractor who was supposed to pick up the order for the stairs from the flooring people at noon-ish.
Outstanding! You Go Girl!
You must live the mantra I use when I pretend I’m working out:
“I am strong and powerful. My body is a finely tuned machine!”
Show that contractor your bulging biceps and growl at him for his impudent tardiness.
Oh yeah, my body is a finely tuned machine – in my mind! Contractor was a no-show today after all, though I did get a text that he’ll be here tomorrow. That’s the one problem I have with him; he doesn’t have the same sense of urgency that I do. To date his work is good though and he’s moderately priced, so I grin and bear it.
Pope Benedict was singularly responsible for driving me this itsy bitty close to quitting the Catholic church with his reversal to regressive liturgical rites and ultra conservative focus. Hope his successor wises up else they’ll face worse fortunes than the child sex abuse scandals and banking/money laundering crisis. I’m watching with a hawk’s eye.
Tweety is saying Pope Benedict will be a big factor in deciding the new Pope.
As usual, Tweety has no insight into that, at all.
He will have a different opinion at 5:00.
Yes, whichever way the wind is blowing at 5:00. He’s a Catholic, and he thinks he’s inside the novel he writes in his head on all topics, so I’m not surprised he’s now doing Vatican News. Poor guy! He needs to go write the books full time, at home, away from a mic and a TV camera!
Zizi, I think you’ll be disappointed. The cardinals who are likely to be in the running are all very conservative and Pope Benedict will do everything in his power to ensure that the church will never change, but become an ossified institution, more suitable to another era.

23 years ago today, Nelson Mandela was released from prison having been locked up for 27 years by a racist state. http://t.co/a6vP96Kh— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) February 11, 2013
I wonder if it’s true that he’s a huge fan of Toddlers and Tiaras—–one of the odder stories from last week.
I missed that Dotster, wackiest thing ever!!!
I remember that day as if it was yesterday! Beautiful day!
P.S. I did not like the granddaughters’ “reality” show at all.
I do too.
As do I!!!
When I worked in DC in the 90′s, I had an office that overlooked the street where the Washington Post is located. One day I saw the police stop all traffic and then down the middle of the street came Nelson Mandela hand in hand with Winnie as they made their way to the Post for an interview. What a great day that was!
Oh Jackie, what an amazing thing to have witnessed – a treasured memory!!
@TheObamaDiary @maddowblog Now which is the real GOP response? Did they split already? Or is there just too much hate for one speech?— Dudette (@Dudette9t9) February 11, 2013
I’ll go with “There is just too much hate for one speech” . GOP= no matter which side the hate is coming from we got you covered.
Do you think we could persuade them into splitting the rethug party, then the Dems would have majority?
Dreaming is encouraged.
Speaking of gun violence—-this shooting in a Delaware court house this a.m. is another tragic one. Ex-husband, former optometrist, shot and killed his ex-wife and another woman and shot and wounded 2 capitol police officers. The shooter had spent time in prison for once kidnapping their 3 young daughters, saying he was taking them to Disney World and instead ran away with them for 18 months to Panama, Costa Rica and other countries. He was also serving time for bank fraud. The mother had re-married and the family was trying to recover and move on with their lives, at court house today reportedly for a child support hearing. And this ex-felon father, with a history of mental health issues, should never have had access to guns.
Here’s the story, with editing issues (rush to get story out)
for response to Esquire story about SEAL and his healthcare – a crock of crap, by the sounds of it.
We need an official military response to this story, something is amiss. Once again the media spreads stories with no fact checking.
Here’s the correct from WaPo:
Correction: The original version of this article said the Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden was uninsured. He lost insurance coverage after leaving the military and now purchases his own plan.
I knew there had to be more when the story was first tweeted. Never mind the ridiculous headline. I guess its more exciting to say bin Laden’s killer doesn’t have insurance rather than talk about health care coverage for veteran’s in general. Apparently this SEAL team member lost his Tricare because he retired early and is now looking for insurance for his entire family.
Speaking of media hyping up a story. Last night someone I followed was in a panic over a story they saw online (msn.com) saying that Christopher Dorner will be the first human target of a drone on US soil. The article said a spy drone but reading the article you would think Pres.Obama authorized a drone strike on Droner. Only one other lesser known news site was reporting this. I have yet to see anything on twitter reporting this as true. It was the most blatant example of irresponsible reporting I’ve ever seen on drones. If we weren’t talking about drones, that story would not have been written that way.
Missed that Dorner story, GB, oh good grief.
As for the Esquire story, there is something seriously creepy about this, according to the experts on the issue (eg @MegMcCloskey) it is jam-packed with ‘inaccuracies’ (being kind here). Either the writer has an ugly agenda, or he’s astonishingly incompetent – fact-checking is, clearly, an alien concept to him.
Phil Bronstein used to be the editor of the SF Chronicle. I’ve never trusted his politics. But even more outrageous is that he is currently executive chair of the board for the Center for Investigative Reporting. For real!
“Executive chair of the board for the Center for Investigative Reporting”???
Oh, you could not make it up! Well, he could – but you know what I mean!
I only read Esquire for Charles Pierce so I didn’t know they could be complete hacks.
“Either the writer has an ugly agenda, or he’s astonishingly incompetent – fact-checking is, clearly, an alien concept to him.”
Those two things are not mutually exclusive – in fact I often find that, in the age of Obama, they go together….
That’s true, Hopefruit. At best you could say he just didn’t bother to check out the facts, but…..
Yes and Van Jones was more than willing to re-tweet without checking the facts. He makes me sick. He should know better by now. I am so happy that he is not in PBO cabinet. Coward!!
That Seal team member left the military and his health insurance plan not the other way around. He thought he was going to get paid and found no such thing. The rest of the Seal team is still in the military. While I commend his service, you have to put in 20 years. Not 16, not 6 but 20. Those are the rules regardless of who you killed or didn’t kill. He has 90 days from date of discharge to be reinstated.
Van Jones should know better. Very disappointed that he often does not.
Thanks Chips – sorry I didn’t see your post before posting these tweets down below. But it’s all good. I’m so happy that it’s not just us who found this story to be seriously sketchy. But what’s even more disturbing is the way people like Van Jones, Ezra Klein and even Krystal Ball jumped on the bandwagon without much thought about the source of the report and the facts about military service and benefits.
Chipsticks and TOD Regulars,
In the past I have referred to this site as a full service site. Besides the political, there are educational, social, cultural, entertainment features found here. That is because of your willingness to share your knowledge and experiences. Thanks to all of you for that.
Something else I’ve come to appreciate from this site is that you help to wade through the BS that is constantly fed to us through the MSM. “Consider the source” takes on a whole new meaning. It helps to understand what is being presented to us when we also have knowledge that the so-called political “experts” may also have an agenda. Calling attention to the lies of distortion and omission brings about a sense of relief that what you thought to be true is probably more true than not. For most of us, paying attention to our politics/government is difficult because of the intended complexity and the negativity. This site makes trying to stay aware a little less difficult.
So thanks again to Chipsticks and all of you who regularly contribute to this site.
Thank you swbluega, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all the great people here who sift through the lies and nonsense daily and find the truth – they’re heroes! Thanks again swbluega.
The picture of Jay Carney looks like he wants to poke out the eyes of the press…who could blame him!

I bought the missus flowers at Costco yesterday. They were gorgeous.
Do they ship? That would be awesome!
I don’t know if they ship. My guess would be no, or if they did they’d use someone who might advertise on Rush. But $15 for a bouquet of roses? Can’t beat that.
Yeh that’s excellent.
Pro flowers doesn’t give good service. My son now calls our hometown florist directly when he sends me flowers. Also, to hubby’s mother, we call local because FedEx just left them at the door when it was cold. Too hard to arrange delivery through FedEx.
Yep, another reason not to shop with them aside from their support of Rush.
Major Garrett’s Twitter account melts down washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wem…— (@allanbrauer) February 11, 2013
Not gonna lie, it was hilarious to see Garrett’s meltdown this morning. He had written this weird article about Pres. Obama abandoning the economy and then boom! this flows down the twitter stream.
The story is that he was mad that a colleague of his tweeted that Garrett had left his Cover Girl makeup in the restroom and it left stains everywhere. Who gets mad at that? Everyone knows that men and women in the media wear makeup. Geez….what an overblown “shirty” reaction.
It was freaking hilarious UT, I assumed he’d been hacked!! What a dick!
Did the twitter friend get the stains, or is it just a joke? Who does he work for now?
Glad to see that we were not the only ones who had a problem with the way this story was being reported. Glad to see the pushback.

Whatever happened to the military code of conduct. These Navy Seals who were involved in the bin Ladin raid, one after another, seem to have been cursed with running their mouths off in the most shameful way. It’s like they can’t wait to discredit the military with their gossip and complaining. We so respected these people after carrying out their dangerous mission, and they just keep eroding that respect with their books, their misinformation, their bashing of the Administration… I hope they pull it together – quick!
Yes, you have to wonder what happened to them after the raid. I did read Peter Bergans book and it seemed a lot of people involved. Is it because it was such a high profile target they feel ignored? I had only heard of the guy writing the book, how many others have? Is this two or has there been others I missed?
I heard there were one or two that complained about the President taking credit for the raid. But, I only heard that through the media, so it’s questionable whether that was accurate or not.
Yes, can’t trust media anymore.
VIDEO: Morning Joe Crew Rips Republicans For Hagel Obstruction: ‘It’s A Colossal Mistake’
Republican Joe Scarborough is tired of his party’s mistreatment of Defense Secretary-nominee Chuck Hagel and its continuing, all-consuming focus on Benghazi.
The focus of Scarborough’s ire this morning on his MSNBC show Morning Joe was Sen. Lindsey Graham’s announcement on Sunday that he will place a hold on not only Hagel, but also CIA Director-nominee John Brennan until he gets further action from the White House on Benghazi.
Scarborough lashed out at Graham and his neoconservative cohorts, unable to believe how misguided their attacks on the Obama administration have been:
The questions for Americans to answer for themselves is: Lindsey Graham and John McCain’s (and Kelly Ayotte) have perpetrated specific and sustained actions to undermine the National Security Team individually by questioning the incoming nominees and those who weren’t even named as nominees (i.e. Susan Rice), and raising doubts in the ranks of those who will report to them. Do those actions strengthen or weaken national security? Do they make the people repsonsible for National Security, adn all the lower ranks under them, more cohesive or less cohesive? Do their actions honor the millions of service men and women whose very lives rest in the hands of these people who are up for nomination?
It’s disgusting what these three individuals have done and continue to do. At some point, Americans will have to get tired of their security being undermined, right?

THINK….TV can't get WORSE…Palin signed on w/current TV Al Jazeera as broadcaster… Rove started another political action cmte..— Nancy Mitchell (@NancyWonderful) February 11, 2013
I don’t buy it. Where’s the link?
If you think this is a credible source, here’s a link…
Just weeks after leaving Fox News, Sarah Palin is bouncing back by joining the fledgling Al Jazeera America news network as a host and commentator.
The former vice presidential nominee confirmed today that she has signed a multi-million dollar deal to host her own shows and to provide commentary on United States issues for Al Jazeera, which is best known for its news coverage of the Middle East.
The Daily Currant is a parody site, a bit like The Onion – then again, Palin’s a parody too.
That’s a fake news site.
Yeh, seems fishy to me. She just said go look on CurrentTV or Palin’s site (doesn’t she just have a facebook page). Nothing on Current TV’s site. I would think that would be huge news — like hell freezing over news.
There’s a parody site called The Daily Currant that mentions it. I wonder if she saw that and took it as real.
Ugh. Can’t tell how many times I’ve had to tweet that The Daily Currant is not a real news site.
I can’t find mention of it anywhere else. I’m convinced she was looking at that site. I think she confused it with Current TV.
Dudette, are you kidding? Palin, Sarah Palin. Really???????
I think this lady might have been duped by a parody site. Will look into it later. Gotta get back to work.
The Rethugs have Ben Ghazi, and we have Ben LaBolt. I prefer our Ben. Your thoughts.

GOP Rep. Steve Stockman is bringing Ted Nugent to #SOTU. Nugent recently called Obama "an evil, dangerous man who hates America."— Susan Davis (@DaviSusan) February 11, 2013
I heard about this today and thought it was a joke. Apparently, it’s true.
I hope they surround this bugger with Secret Service, and haul him out (viciously) if he even sneezes too loud.
THIS!!!! Any WH or Secret Service lurkers out there, please take heed!
They will, theo. During the SOTU the House chamber contains not just the president, but the Supreme Court, most of the Cabinet and the entire Congress. You can bet the security will be so tight Nugent won’t be able to bring an extra handkerchief. The SS and the Capital Police will take no chances.
This is really just terrible. Can they not just give President Obama any room to breathe at all, without spreading their toxicity?
Exactly my sentiments, Theo!
ABOUT THAT GOP THREATENED WALK OUT ON THE HAGEL VOTE, NEVER MIND …..
Republicans Ditch Plan To Walk Out On Hagel Vote
By Hayes Brown
Further questioning revealed no stomach for the GOP to walk out after all. Staffers reached in the office of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) hadn’t heard of the bid to walkout and were unable to confirm whether the Senator backed the proposal. However, a staffer in the office of Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) — by no means a supporter of Hagel’s nomination bid — confirmed to ThinkProgress that there are no longer any Republicans who plan on walking out during tomorrow’s meeting.
The swift backtracking by the GOP highlights an unfortunate tendency of the media to eagerly report on whatever shifting reason that Hagel opponents cite as being true. Dave Weigel at Slate on Friday pointed out the widespread use of anonymous GOP staffers as the sourcing for their reports, refusing to even name an office connected with the informant, as a method to promote attacks on Hagel. The result is a sounding board in the media for an ever-widening array of charges against Hagel that Republicans hope to make stick.
It’s so offensive.
Yep. And the sad thing is, most voters don’t know about these shenanigans. If they did, we wouldn’t have to worry about 2014. People would go racing to the polls and stand all day if they had to just to vote against these guys.
WHOA, this can’t possibly be true. OMG.
POTUS has faced wall of disrespect from GOP at SOTU. Joe Wilson screams "You lie!" Now Rep. invites Nugent, who threatened to kill Obama.— Gabe Ortíz (@TUSK81) February 11, 2013
Dear @SecretService Why is Ted Nugent being allowed anywhere near President Obama? cc @whitehouse @NancyPelosi— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 11, 2013
Ted #Nugent at #SOTU. That #GOP re-branding is really going well.— US Dept. of Irony (@IronyDept) February 11, 2013
Politico is reporting Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) has invited him.
Stockman is a nutcase, who has threatened President Obama with impeachment. He’s stirring up all kinds of vitriol and fear that Obama’s coming to grab your guns. It looks like everything he says and does is anti-Obama, his only raison d’etre, pure hate on display. And he invites nutcase Nugent who threatens Obama’s life at every opportunity and who is obviously unhinged mentally and emotionally and attracts the same. Stockman is bragging that Nugent will be available to the media pre and post SOTU. Pure ugliness.
This should never be allowed. This is insanity.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this invitation is intended to have Nugent act out and be carted out so the RWNJ gun nuts can add another layer of insanity to their rallying cry.
Dotster, IF Nugent is allowed in, I’m certain that he will be put in an obscure place in the gallery and surrounded by Secret Service men who, at the first sign of trouble, will quietly escort him out. The president might not even pause, but if he does, he will say something classy. Nugent will not be placed anywhere near the First Lady or her invited guests. It is rare that cameras pan the gallery, except when a specific reference is made to someone near the first lady, so most people won’t know he’s there. Stockman is punching so far above his weight class with this gimmick that he does not understand that the SS is way ahead of him and the President regards him as a flea.
Hopefully if they have to take him out, they’ll break something. Oops sorry!
I hope they don’t let him in. But he would probably get Fox media coverage if that happened.
So be it. They’re gonna find something to bitch about anyway.
WHAT A DISRESPECTFUL IDIOT.
Good grief! When you go on WH Tours you have to be checked by SS way beforehand. Don’t they do the same thing for anyone attending SOTU? Thorough vetting for non-Congress invitees? Though I wish SS would do some thorough vetting of some of these knuckleheads’ grey matter.
Nugent has been interrogated by SS for past threats on Obama’s life. How could he be allowed to be at the SOTU?
As @mikememoli notes Nugent was "subject of a Secret Service investigation last year after controversial remarks about President Obama"— Domenico Montanaro (@DomenicoNBC) February 11, 2013
Stockman and the Secret Service need major push-back for this insanity! To allow Nugent to attend ANY event that PBO is speaking at is outrageous at best and a real security issue. I hope PBO takes a dig right at him tomorrow night. Perhaps PBO shoud wear a full out S.W.A.T. team gear, helmet, bullet proof vest and an AK-47 strapped to his chest whilst he gives his SOFU speech! Unbelievable!
Stockman is a complete rwnj and probably likes the attention. Boner needs to do something.
‘Boner needs to do something.’
Boehner, Bill? That one who can’t control his caucus? I see despite #GOP insanity, you are a man who continues to dream and look for the best.
No Secret Service should just deny him access.
Not to mention his disrespect for former SOS Clinton.
this is hilarious! what a sweet marine, and what a cute little president-in-training.
And the Mom looked like: Shit, how do I get Boo-Suit off the stage w/out anyone seeing me?!
This is so sweet. This was a very touching Medal of Honor Ceremony. It really touched me, even though I’ve heard about the attacks. Maybe Pres. Obama reading another mothers letter to him touched me so much.
It is more than disrespectful that Nugent was invited when he clearly disrespects the Office of the Presidency and THIS President in particular. That said, I’m certain that if this POS is allowed in the chamber and blows a gasket….this little ploy will blow up in the RWNJ’s faces….like so many times before…and clearly show the rest of America how truly evil and disrespectful they are…..I hope they make that sorry SOB strip naked before he is allowed in there. I can almost guarantee this stunt will not go well for them. Back to work for me!!
No end to the GOP’s fiscal gimmickry
Posted by Greg Sargent
As I keep noting here, the GOP’s explicit, publicly stated position is that no compromise of any kind to avert the sequester is acceptable (it must only be offset with spending cuts). Meanwhile, the Dems’ explicit, publicly stated position is that both sides should make roughly equivalent concessions (spending cuts and new revenues) to avert the sequester. This is tough for many to swallow — note George Stephanopoulos’ incredulity yesterday that Republicans won’t agree to any new revenues — but it is an objectively true description of the two sides’ positions.
Now things have just gotten worse. Rather than agree to a penny in new revenues, Republicans are taking refuge behind a series of outright gimmicks that have no chance whatsoever of becoming reality, ever. If this latest round of proposals doesn’t prove enough to persuade neutral commentators of the fundamental and dramatic imbalance between the two parties’ approaches to the sequester battle — one whose outcome could have enormous negative consequences for the country — than nothing will.
It happened at a New York Airport . This is hilarious. I
wish I had the guts of this girl. An award should go to the Jet Blue
Airlines gate agent in New York for being smart and funny, while
making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably
deserved to fly as cargo. For all of you out there who have had to
deal with an irate customer, this one is for you.
A crowded Jet Blue Airlines flight was canceled. A
single agent was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers.
Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped
his ticket on the counter and said, “I HAVE to be on this flight and
it has to be FIRST CLASS.”
The agent replied, “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll be happy to try
to help you, but I’ve got to help these folks first; and then I’m
sure we’ll be able to work something out.”
The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that
the passengers behind him could hear, “DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?”
Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her
public address microphone. “May I have your attention, please?”, she
began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. “We have a
passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can
help him with his identity, please come to Gate 14″.
With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically,
the man glared at the Jet Blue agent, gritted his teeth, and said,
Without flinching, she smiled and said, “I’m sorry sir,
you’ll have to get in line for that, too.”

Self Confessed Pedophile Ted Nugent Will be a Guest of House Republicans at the SOTU
By: Jason Easley
House Republican Steven Stockman is helping to rebrand his party by announcing today that admitted pedophile, and generally insane person, Ted Nugent will be his guest at the State of the Union.
The Stockman press releases also pointed out that Nugent will be available for interviews after the president’s speech, because what better way is there for Republicans to reconnect with American people than to put Ted Nugent out in front of live cameras and microphones on the biggest political night of the year?

If he’d found TOD, he would’ve quit a lot sooner.
thank heaven ( ) he hasn’t found tod!!
I don’t see how this can be allowed. I am so beyond disgusted by this Stockman/Nugent ploy. In this volatile climate…..stirring up the crazy people.
And so it begins.
In interview, Ted Nugent tells the NYT he won't be carrying a gun with him to State of the Union. "I've got to demilitarize before I go."— Jeremy W. Peters (@jwpetersNYT) February 11, 2013
This tortured soul does not realize that at this stage of his miserable life the most deadliest weapon is in his mouth.
James 3:6 “The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is seton fire by hell.”
If these GOP who profess to be Chrisitans can sit by and allow this fool guarantee his place in hell by taunting and sneering at this God- fearing man, let them.
If our President has to address this fool and their evil , cowardly behaviors while children who are attending and parents who are still grieving over the loss of their children are watching, they will finally have sealed their fate while the nation watches.
My dear TOD ers, this should not shock or disgust us, this is who they are and they are doing what they have been doing all of their lives behind closed doors. Now that the light hascometoshone on them, they are exposed.
PROCEED, MR. PRESIDENT…….
Crikey! Someone who looney-dodged serving in the military is posing about demilitarizing! LOL!
Why would this vile creature want to attend the SOTU of the person he hates? Technically, he should be out of the country, and now he want to attend the SOTU. Is he doing this for attention, hoping that he will be the msm story insteadof PBO after the SOTU?
#FLOTUS invites a Medal of Honor hero to #SOTU. The #GOP invite a draft-dodging, pedophile who threatened #PBO's life. cc @VP @DavidPlouffe— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 11, 2013
Is it possible for there to be a greater contrast between the two parties to be represented than this?
You know, the more I think of this pos attending the SOFU the more I think those of you who are saying this will show the pubs have not gotten the message from the election. I say “bring ‘em on”! It only shows how out of touch and looney they really are….for all the world to see. I hope Teddy does something stupid. I hope someone from the R’s yells out at PBO again! Because THIS time folks know who they are. When Wilson yelled the “you lie” comment, the R’s had yet to be labeled the crazy loons that they are. Now everybody knows and will only legitimize the crazy. Maybo PBO should invite Saul Alinsky or Hugo Chavez to sit next to him as he addresses the nation!
How utterly cruel @SpeakerBoehner to @GabbyGiffords & other victims of #GunViolence that #GOP invited pedophile, gun nut Nugent to SOTU.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 11, 2013
Am I the only one thinking that this is GREAT news? I mean, as Bob highlighted, the difference between the two camps could not be greater. I’m pretty sure Orange Julius is going to hit the bar hard tonight over the thought of Mr. Shit His Pants giving interviews in the halls of Congress.
It’s a disgrace to the Nation, as you well know, LL. But, it certainly enables us to congratulate the GOP on their exceptional ‘re-branding’ of the Republican Party and keep rubbing it in all the way to Nov 2014.
I do hope that Speaker Pelosi and others will take to the House Floor – CSPAN recording – and both condemn and wrap the GOP with the Nugent brand.
Dear @NancyPelosi @WhipHoyer @Clyburn please go to the floor of the House & CONDEMN the GOP for inviting avowed #PBO Hater Nugent to SOTU.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 11, 2013
p.s. Good news about your wife.
Personally, I am sick and tired of this obvious difference between the two parties. It has started since PBO was elected and truth be told, when he announced his running for office. Perhaps this distinguish is needed for that 60% that vote against their best interest each and every time. As an AA woman, I am tired of it and its getting really old.
BTW, LL: how’s your wifey? I am behind on the blog reading and doubt I will catch up anytime soon. Hope all is well.
Missus is just fine. Her surgery is scheduled for March 18.
LL, I’m not sure about the halls of Congress interviews. The Capital Police and the Secret Service will not want to block the flow of traffic out of the House floor, beginning with the president and moving to the members of Congress. I would bet that no guest in the gallery is allowed to create a bottle neck with a press gaggle anywhere near the doors. If I were to bet on it, I’d say Nugent would have to go outside and he would then be commenting like any other citizen. Reporters are going to have a rich tapestry of big names to speak to and get quotes from. How many, besides maybe Fox, will waste this opportunity on a know-nothing like Nugent.
i’m giggling at how any remaining responsible repubs must be squirming right now. this is your party, folks. love it or leave it.
I think it’s a great idea…and may he be his ignorant self…all for the Republican brand.
As always, Bob, great tweet! It goes to the heart of the matter. The GOP has been taken over by lunatics.
THE SEQUESTER, EXPLAINED
Posted by Suzy Khimm on September 14, 2012
Why did Congress and the White House agree to the sequester in the first place?
The government was approaching its debt limit, which needed to be raised through a congressional vote or else the country would default in early August 2011. While Democrats were in favor of a “clean” vote without strings attached, Republicans were demanding substantial cuts in exchange for raising the debt limit.
President Obama and congressional leaders ultimately agreed to the BCA, which would allow the debt ceiling to be raised by $2.1 trillion in exchange for the establishment of the supercommittee tied to the fall-back sequester, as the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities explains. The deal also includes mandatory spending reductions on top of the sequester by putting caps on non-entitlement discretionary spending that will reduce funding by $1 trillion by 2021.
Who supported the debt-ceiling deal?
Party leaders, the White House and most members of Congress supported the debt-ceiling deal: The BCA passed on a 268-161 vote in the House, with about one-third of House Republicans and half of House Democrats opposing it. It passed in the Senate, 74-26, with six Democratic senators and 19 Republican senators opposing it.
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama's SOTU guest is this awesome 102-year-old woman who waited 3 hours to vote in FL. postonpolitics.com/2013/02/102-ye…— Eric Schroeck (@ericschroeck) February 11, 2013
As Bobfr indicated – the contrast between FLOTUS’ guests and that of the GOP who bring pedophile/gun nut/would-be assassin, etc., couldn’t be more glaring.
This is wonderful!!!!
Headline: 102-year-old Florida woman who waited hours to vote to join Michelle Obama for State of the Union
// A 102-year-old Florida woman who waited more than three hours to vote before casting her ballot in North Miami will join First Lady Michelle Obama at President Obama’s state of the union address tomorrow night, highlighting his pledge to do something about the problems last fall that again cast an unwelcome spotlight on Florida elections. Desiline Victor, a Haitian-born U.S. citizen and former Belle Glade farm worker, waited three hours to vote on Oct. 28 at a public library.
According to Advancement Project, the civil rights group that has worked with Victor and is bringing her to Washington, Victor waited in line for three hours at a Miami-Dade County public library on Oct. 28. After others standing in line with the elderly woman complained to Miami-Dade County election staff, she was told to come back later in the day when there wouldn’t be as long to wait and more Creole language assistance would be available. She cast her ballot later on her return trip to the early voting site. //
I love the fact that she came back and wouldn’t let her vote go uncounted.
Hf, the treatment of this elderly woman was contemptible. When elderly, disabled or clearly ill voters have trouble waiting in line, they should be put ahead of the line by voting officials, or by Good Samaritan voters in the line. I have seen this done countless times in my own area and I have never known a single person who would not willingly let an elderly or disabled person cut in front on them. Truly never. Most people are very gracious about it and say, “of course.” Also it’s always a good idea for poll workers to bring extra folding chairs and routinely scan the line for people who need to sit down.
How nice of FLOTUS to invite her. So sweet.

Congressman Steve Stockman received a personal fax at his office from Tim McVeigh confirming the bombing at the federal bldg. in Oklahoma City. Steve Stockman is the supporter of domestic terrorism and violence, now invites assassin wannabe Ted Nugent to the SOTU. Bad business and the entire GOP should be painted with these idiots.

time for them to clean house, if they are uncomfortable with the pigsty it’s become.
Bill, what part of TX does this idiot come from? Wonder if there’s any chance of taking him out in the next election. Surely the whole district he represents can’t be stark raving mad.
When it comes to this President, jackiegrumbacher I think they are all stark raving mad.

I felt the same way when I heard the news. Please read my post up above(minus the errors, of course)……
This is who they are. We cannot ever change that.
Look at the brighter side…..Mitt Romney is not giving the SOTUS speech!
PROCEED, MR. PRESIDENT!
Enjoy the speech tomorrow….I know I am
After being married for thirty years, a wife asked her husband to describe her.
He looked at her for a while … then he said,
“You’re A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K.”
She asks … “What does that mean?”
He said, “Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous, Hot.
She smiled happily and said …. “Oh, that’s so lovely … What about I, J, K?”
He said, “I’m Just Kidding!”
The swelling in his eye is going down and the doctor is fairly optimistic about saving his testicles.
I guess she was not satisfied with just A – H…Greedy!
Curiosity is a funny thing, eh?
[.....] but if I were the GOP leadership, the prospect of further comments from Nugent after the speech would have me a bit worried. After all, there’s little doubt that reporters will seek him out, and there’s really no telling what Nugent will say. The GOP leadership has not commented on the news.
[.....] The problem isn’t so much Ted Nugent as it is the Steve Stockmans of the world telling their constituents that Obama’s sensible gun reforms rise to the level of impeachment.
