Wild night. Good morning all. First thing I hear is that the House is taking off for 10 days. Is that true or did I dream it?

[Over at BJ, he gets another name: "Marco H20" Comment at that post]:

    Comrade Jake Says:

The speech was full of cognitive dissonance. He talked about how awful more government is in one part, while praising his student loans and his father’s Medicare in another. He went on and on about how mean Obama is, then concluded by asking why we all can’t get along.

Just bizarre stuff. Even more awkward than his water grab, in my view, were his ninja-like moves to wipe the beads of sweat running down the side of his face. If I was one of these guys I’d make sure the room was freezing cold before giving the speech.

That’s a perfect recap of the few parts of waterboy’s remarks I saw. Got the chills when he started wiping the sweat off his temples with his fingers. Did he shake hands after that? Gruesome. But the water grab made my late night viewing a riot – couldn’t stop laughing!

ut, it’s good to see that people are starting to see that there are people who try to fine fault with anything POTUS does. But they will excuse Rubio making a fool of himself.

Thanks Chips for showcasing this. Beasts of the Southern Wild is one of my absolute favorite films of 2012. Quvenzhane Wallis was a revelation. She gave a performance that was far beyond her relatively young years, and breaks your heart in the process. Good luck to everyone involved with the film on Oscar night. Also, for anyone that enjoys great film score, this film featured one of the greatest musical score in films. It was composed by Dan Romer and Benh Zeitlin, who is also the director of the film. Check out these youtube videos of the beautiful score for BOTSW titled “Once There Was A Hushpuppy”

Marco Rubio’s waterboarding himself didn’t result in any more truth than that tactic did when tried by Cheney’s henchmen on terror suspects.

    [Booman]:

[.....] Faced with a Republican Party that is, by turns, nihilistic and filled with zeal, a pragmatic speech would have proposed little. A speech limited to promises and proposals that are likely to pass would have been a very short speech, indeed. The president chose a different path.

If the Republicans want to pretend that climate change isn’t occurring, that doesn’t mean that the president will be silent. If the GOP won’t consider good ideas, the president will talk about them anyway. Why accept the status quo? Why accept that almost nothing can be done in Washington so long as the Republicans have any sniff of power?

Anyone who argues that the president should have spent his time talking about the things that the two parties can agree about doesn’t understand how little they can agree about. By talking in grander and more ambitious terms, he invited Congress to snap out of the current crisis governance and expand the realm of the possible. But, if they won’t move willingly (and they won’t), Obama will take his case to the people and try to change the political landscape for the next election. [.....]

Sally Kohn writes on the FOX website:

“…In other words, every single idea and initiative that President Obama outlined in his State of the Union Address will not only strengthen our economic standing as a nation but also falls squarely within the values and priorities of the majority of American voters. Those trying to argue otherwise are obviously intoxicated by the recycled air of their own ideological bubble. A bubble that, by any realistic measure of popular opinion or electoral power, is clearly shrinking.”

Her article was #2 in readership when she sent her email. If you link on it – not only is it a great read – it will help her get to #1.

      More goodness:

“The Republican Party should be less worried about its image and more worried about its substance. No party that dismantles the American Jobs Act, blocks the Violence Against Women Act and defeats the DREAM Act can expect to win the hearts and minds of mainstream America, let alone a governing majority. “

Only because of The Obama Diary and its well informed followers, did I get to know about Oprah Winfrey’s fantastic interview last summer with the director and actors of “Hushpuppy”, as the “Beasts of the Southern
Wild” is called here in Denmark. Thanks!
This film is an absolut must!

[Hello, Piers, here's looking at ya!]:

Six former News of the World journalists, two of whom now work for the Sun, have been arrested by Scotland Yard officers investigating a new line of inquiry in relation to phone hacking.

In a dramatic new twist to the phone-hacking scandal on Wednesday morning, the Metropolitan police said in a statement that it had identified a further suspected conspiracy to intercept voicemail messages by three men and three women that is alleged to have taken place between 2005 and 2006.

All of them are journalists or former journalists, the Met said, and all but one of them were detained in London. [.....]
