HELLO EVERYONE.
I think that what most stays with me from the SOTU is when my president said “They all deserve a vote.” We have the power to be heard. We can be heard. We all deserve a vote on key policy issues.
Morning/afternoon Mariele!
Thanks again for this site. I recommend it to all my sane friends. I could not have survived the last 4 years or the next 4 without TOD. It’s my heart and head touchstone. I have a little idea of what it takes to pull something like this off and the work is MONUMENTAL!
TOD will go down in history as the greatest documentation of the Obama Presidency (other than Whitehouse.gov) on record. We are honored to live in the time of OBAMA and Chipsticks!
Stream is up for President Obama in Nashville: http://www.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=1 and http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/president-obama-speaks-economy-22
Should be Asheville.
Hi JER, if you get a link for the Asheville takeoff (airport), could you post it?
Thank you!
He is stopping at a popular restaurant I think. Twelve something. He does like Asheville. If I remember right that is near the Baltimore castle and their beautiful farm. The house is a little big for us.
but we could rescue more pets. It was a beautiful place forty years ago when I was there for a weekend with hubby. Not too far from Appalachian trail. I always wanted to walk the length of it. It is probably OT as peaceful as it was forty years ago. They had a small little snow ski mountain if I remember right. The art and craft of the local people was beautiful. I could afford one placemat and used on my bedroom dresser ever since. Glad the President is having a good time.
A very good bj post
The meat and potatoes in this case fits with the process theme. People elect politicians for meat and potatoes. Why the else would people vote? It’s not fucking talk radio, but Republicans treat it like it is.
The way he leveraged the gun and voting issues was particularly interesting. The first, meat and potatoes part of the speech that dealt with economic issues, simple things that could be done but lies neglected (the Jobs Act) and the threat to the economy from the sequester, was summed up by “‘We can do this’ – but you refuse to act.” That contrasts with national security, where Obama has done substantially what he has promised, and taken actions, like ending DADT and the announced troop withdrawals from Afghanistan, that show that he is not afraid to act and live with the consequences. In other words, I’m doing my job, but the Republicans aren’t. Nice use of McCain, who he basically singled out as too chicken to take the risk of doing stuff he advocated just a few years ago.
The emotional culmination of that theme was voting rights and Newtown. A 100 year old woman will stand in line for hours to vote, but Republicans do nothing except flap their gums about nonexistent vote fraud and make voting problems even worse, because they’re afraid to let people vote. Having to stand in line to vote is a meat and potatoes problem; folks have jobs to do, it’s hard for an old lady to stand in line for 6 hours.
Regarding Newtown, the Republicans come up with a million excuses for not doing anything, no matter how reasonable and popular, about 6 year-olds being gunned down in their own school. Getting greased by an AR-15 is a meat and potatoes problem, but instead Republicans want to talk about some airy interpretation of the 2nd amendment and paranoid fantasies about jack booted government thugs. Nice contrast with a cop that takes 11 slugs to save a bunch of people who don’t even look like him or pray to the same god. “You can vote no, but you owe them a vote” is another way of saying you’re a bunch of cowards, afraid of your own people and hiding behind a bunch of abstract, speculative bullshit about the deficit, voter fraud and gun confiscation that you claim are based on “principles.” You have no principles because you are unwilling to put them to the democratic test.
That pathetic response from Rubio reinforces that theme. They don’t even form a coherent opposition and have no real leadership, e.g., they need two different rebuttals to the SOTU because they don’t know who leads them. The Republican Party is Dog Day Afternoon, a hostage drama with a disjoint recitation of grievances by a bunch of obsessives, not a political party that serves the interests of regular people.

Nice.
Very good summary amk. One minor flaw. Brian had twelve slugs in him. I had to rewind, because no one covered this in the aftermath that I knew about. Did you know the Portuguese Water Dog was in the final for Best in Show at Westminster? Didn’t know that did you?
have you been to bed since SOTU?
What is this Factory he is touring and how does that Coincide with the Message?
Jovie, I think they made large parts for large mining equipment.
From prior thread:
Sally Kohn writes on the FOX website:
“…In other words, every single idea and initiative that President Obama outlined in his State of the Union Address will not only strengthen our economic standing as a nation but also falls squarely within the values and priorities of the majority of American voters. Those trying to argue otherwise are obviously intoxicated by the recycled air of their own ideological bubble. A bubble that, by any realistic measure of popular opinion or electoral power, is clearly shrinking.”
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/02/12/republicans-need-to-quit-complaining-and-start-cooperating-with-obama/
Clicking will help her move from #2 in readership to #1 and there’s more goodness:
“The Republican Party should be less worried about its image and more worried about its substance. No party that dismantles the American Jobs Act, blocks the Violence Against Women Act and defeats the DREAM Act can expect to win the hearts and minds of mainstream America, let alone a governing majority.”
OMG – I clicked on and tweeted a Fox News post – I am living in a parallel universe!
Are you okay. Thought I might take a leap?
Sally has her hands full as a progressive voice on Faux. glad you took the leap BG
A similar thought crossed my mind as I hit the retweet button – Fox News!?!
i’ve never done that before, but i’m glad i did! attention all tods– click the link! excellent, passionate rant. smack the rethug heads!
Good morning. Congrats Marieke!
Mariele.
Good Afternoon Chipsticks TOD, busy day for me bout to go take a test, be back later just wanted to post this beautiful pic. Have fun BBL.
Wow. Gripping picture.
I think Gabby Giffords is even more beautiful than I have ever seen her. And that husband of hers – huzza!
I think she is too blondgirl. I love her hairstyle. I hope she recovers fully. She could be Governor of AZ. She would be better than Brewer now! Did they move to Tucson or is she still getting treatment in Texas. I can’t follow everything.
If you didn’t know a thing about them, you think “aw, how sweet” – just a normal everyday couple in love.
Now think about who they are, what they’ve seen, and what they’ve been through in life. Amazing, just amazing!
Beautiful!
Love this picture as well Chips! “That One” is without a doubt #1
And “That Other Cute One” is without a doubt #2. Ha!
It’s a beaut Donna! Thanks a million for your ‘A word from…’, inspirational and motivational as ever! Thanks again.
Thank you Chips for providing these photos. You have really enlightened my world. You have attracted great people to this great blog. You are a genius. The President looked so happy this morning and rested and relaxed. I’m glad I got to see it all. Someone on MSNBC said on air someone looked fat in jacket. The president wasn’t wearing jacket. They might have been talking about themselves. Two men talking. Chuck Todd is so full of it. Glad I have a pause button. Then I can speed through the pundits and just get real news updates. I’m about a post and a half behind. I had a hoot last night. Several names I’m not familiar with who must be too busy to check in everyday were here, the tweets were hilarious. Anxious to see how Marco Go Go is handling his spotlight. Was a decision made on best movie yet or best quote on the sip that launched no ship? Boy, I am getting a lot of emails. I must clean up my iPad because it has stalled a few times already. Enjoy your day if I don’t catch up again with you. I’m still thinking positive thoughts of Kitty. I forgot if she had a name. She is so pretty. And the despot, you can send him to me. I have four girls. Lost three boys in last year. All but one kitty is getting a little old. But I have two big male dog baby’s. They are three and four. Did we get a photo from Pete Souza of the young girls saying hello? And did we find out who the screeches was when the president walked in the hall? Sounded like a female cat in heat. These questions I must find answers too. Off on my quest to these questions. I get giddy when I don’t get my sleep. I hope this post made sense.
Did you get much sleep? You were here late. Oh happy day, oh happy day!
Morning/afternoon, TODville! Received an email this morning from a contact who says she’s a far-left-wing type, who said the President’s SOTU was “way too large of an agenda,” but she agreed with its content. Guess she doesn’t realize the address is supposed to show the President’s way forward, goals and aspirations for his administration, and is a very important speech that can be any length the President wants, yada yada yada. “Way too large of an agenda”? I think not. Not for this President! Wouldn’t have been too large for Speaker for Life Pelosi, were she to have the gavel in her hot little hands. Wouldn’t even be too large for Senate Majority Leader Reid, if he had a House that cooperated. Not too large for me. Decided to refrain from emailing back, “Yeah, size” – not quality – “matters.”
For some people, America just isn’t capable of doing big things anymore. Even while the rest of the world continues to plow forward, implementing the President’s plans in their own countries.
*implementing the President’s plans in their own countries*
Unreal. What being the leader of the free world means, and some people here are too stupid to know it!
A ‘far left-wing type’ who (a) doesn’t understand the purpose of the SOTU and (b) thinks the agenda was “too large?” The far left is always whining his agenda isn’t big enough. Methinks your contact is either a tad confused or disingenuous.
More like a tad hasn’t watched too many SOTUs in her life, I’m thinking, but wants others to think she has all the answers, if only the President would listen to her!
Thank Chips.
Hello All;
I am finally caught up with the lovely brilliant posts. Thank you.

The president is on cspan 2.
When Congress gives up on the pretense of caring
By Steve Benen
————————————————
Maybe Paul Ryan isn’t feeling well?
Senate Dems have a sequester alternative. The president has a sequester alternative. Both the Senate and the president have said they’re ready for talks with Republicans. How can Paul Ryan not understand this?
“We have acted in the House”? For crying out loud, how can the chairman of the House Budget Committee not realize that his own caucus in his own chamber hasn’t acted and hasn’t presented a sequester alternative?
Honestly, becoming a prominent Republican policymaker must be incredibly liberating — you get to say anything you want, even when you know it’s the opposite of reality, without any regard for evidence or honesty, knowing there will be no consequences whatsoever.
—————————————————–
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/02/13/16949978-when-congress-gives-up-on-the-pretense-of-caring
I had to change Msnbc as I was waiting for the President. Chuck Todd was really hating on the SOTU speech.
Luckily, I did change channel, to cspan 2, and look it’s POTUS!
“F” Chuck Todd and the network which hire him.
Yes that means “F” MSNBC.
What did the Chuck “GOP” Todd have to say about Rubio speech?
Is there any way “we” could ask (petition) MSNBC to have Toad Man transferred to FOX “NEWS” where his right wing talking points will play out.
Msnbc was suppose to be the channel for progressives, but the guy on the top is nothing more than a repug with a mic that spreads poison to the progressive movement. I’m so tired of the lean forward message when they spend so much time on the right leaning back.
I’m sick of seeing his face and want to know how he even became a so called journalist. He needs to be interviewed by Martin Bashir with questions from “us”. His predictions about the election were wrong, his statements about the repug convention was wrong (Dems only wish they had the diversity in their speakers) and his enthusiasm gap meme that repugs would walk through nails to vote. Forget about voter suppression and a 102 year old woman that waited 6 hours to vote! I’m so sick of him. His entitlement sickens me.
Good points.
Agree wholeheartedly. Now with Comcast owning 100% I fear MSNBC will lurch even further to the right.
Good morning, Obots!
Well, last night was a hoot and a half. I haven’t been that active on Twitter in weeks. The GOP makes it so damned easy.
Did you hear them on Now with Alex? When they switched live to the President. Someone on her show said, “he should have a jacket on. It looks bad.” I’m sure they thought their mike was muted. How lame of them. Always trying to criticize the President.
As though jackets are typical factory attire.
That’s why they sit all day on TV offering their worthless opinions, while President Obama goes about his business being President. They’re all idiots, and it seems that many are finally catching on.
Rep. Jackson Lee warns against more spending cuts: ‘We’re at the bone almost’
Pete Kasperowicz – 02/13/13 11:16 AM ET
Jackson Lee urged compromise to avoid sequestration, saying “I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together.”…
-
Exactly how old is Jackson Lee anyways? Slavery was against the law in 1865, so that would make her more than 150 years old?
Strange comment by Lee!
http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/282825-house-dem-on-spending-cuts-were-at-the-bone-almost
I agree with the rest of her speech, however!
I’m in a meeting, sneaking onto TOD, and I just let out a snort at your comment, “Exactly how old is Jackson Lee anyways” – Jovie, you crack me up! Even when it’s inconvenient. But, seriously – what was she talking about?
I know, right!
If you are an African American and lived under the Jim Crow system you lived under slavery with another name.
This video is why I looooooooove Jeopardy! This is Leonard Cooper and he has balls. Huge balls. He risked $18,000 on a daily double and his final answer was hands down one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
I was rooting for him super hard and I’m glad he won.
That’s hilarious – and he’s cute, says Mrs. Robinson.
He is soo cute and natural. The other 2 were rigid, who looked like old men in a young body.
Love this kid! My 16 year old son and I watched him the other night. He looks like Michael Jackson before all the plastic surgery and skin lightening with that fro! My son loved the fro too ala Questlove! So glad he did well on the show. Smart as a whip that one!
I thought the same thing about that kid looking like Michael Jackson in Mj teenage years, before the plastic surgery, and the skin disease MJ suffer from.
Love that! I think he’s my long lost son.
Now replaying POTUS in Asheville: http://www.wral.com/news/video/12100251/#/vid12100251
TOD’ers are freaking hilarious.
LOL!!! Stop it now. I can’t be howling in laughter at work like this! That is sooo wrong!
LOL! Great one!
Now UpChuck Todd is on Andrea Greenspan bad mouthing the SOTU…
click
Did I hear Mrs. Greenspan tell Chuck Todd he was good looking? Her show could not be more worthless.
Someone named their DOG Chuck Todd …and I think someone on her staff heard the owner calling ” Chuck Todd” .. “Chuck Todd ” in a nearby dog park…..
She showed a picture of the dog….
I went over to MSNBC website and sent an email asking for Chuck Toad to be removed as Political Director. Saying it was a nice gesture to promote him due to the untimely death of Tim Russert, but Chuck Sucks and is better suited for Fox News along with David Gregory. Advocated for Rachel to be MTP host and promote Chris Matthews to Political Director. Gee. Think they will take my advice?
“…promote Chris Matthews to Political Director.”
LB4Obama, are you serious?
Bill if you had to go to bed every night looking at Alan Greenspan, you would think a darn possum was good looking.
Great point.
When they fully take over NBC Universal, I wonder if Comcast will get rid of these bottom feeders or multiply them?
These guys hate it because the President is not acquiescing to what they say he is supposed to do. Darn it, he’s acting like the executive that the majority of Americans elected him to be.
Good Afternoon Everyone.
The President’s message in the SOTU was powerful. I also followed the blogging here during the speech. The input here was definitely more worthwhile than what I was getting from the MSM pundits. Thanks Chipsticks.
The tweets about Rubio’s water moment are hillarious. But I have to wonder if the Republicans are glad that it happened. If what most people remember from Rubio’s “response” is that awkward moment, and if that’s primarily what the MSM is talking about, that means the attention has been taken away from the hyprocracy of Rubio and that the Republican’s so-called rebranding is just a modified version of the same old stuff.
Personally, I think the Republicans never had any intention of letting Rubio get as far as actually winning the GOP nomination for President. He’s peaking way too early – being called the “Republican Savior” a week after the election that will only take place four years from now? They want him torn down by time so they can pay lip service to the Latino population, without having to commit.
Yes
That’s probably the case with every minority the GOP has showcased. None seem to be serious contenders.
Hi theo67. My thoughts exactly!
Only rich white men need apply.
In that SOTU pic, Liquid Boner looks like: why can’t someone just like me like that! Even Martini Olive isn’t nice to me in the morning.
Oh Da Cuteness!
In case you didn’t recognize him, that’s Bobak “The Mohawk Guy” Ferdowsi, Flight Director, NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover and all-around Nerd Hunk! One of FLOTUS’ guests at SOTU <3 <3 <3
Yeah! I’m glad he made it all the way to the White House – that rocket launch was a fun night.
Bobak Ferdowsi? Really? That goes in my list of greatest names ever.
sorry – plz ignore my post below
Why would I ignore it? I LIKE looking at him! and who’d wanna ignore sweet Bo?
Is that our NASA hunk?
Yes indeedy!
I totally agree!
Did you see he got a kiss from BO?
photo/1
If anyone wants to rescue a dog like Bo, there is the cutest little guy at a rescue named Bo Charles.
I can’t do politics 24 hours! Besides I think animal abuse leads to abuse of humans and is a clue into our mental health as a nation. If I remember right, most serial killers started as animal abusers. Sorry, OT.
not ot! remember romney’s dog helped elect pbo!
Yes he did. Dogs against had a huge impact. They are going after Rick Scott now. Everybody loves Bo.
Can’t blame Bo at all. I’d wanna do the same thing – only without the camera around.
That is MAGNIFICENT! I want to eat there!!
ME TOOO!!!!
Good morning Chips and friends. This Big Gulp will be Rubio’s legacy.
Big Deal
Josh Marshall February 13, 2013, 11:45 AM
It got missed in the build up to the State of the Union speech last night. But a whole new front opened in the GOP Civil War. Haley Barbour is asking GOP big money donors to cut off giving to Club for Growth, one of the main drivers behind the candidates Karl Rove’s ‘Victory’ project is trying to shut down.
Awwww, they want to orphan their creation! Abort next time you feel a tingle in the nether regions!
Jason Wu still on cloud nine. Mrs. O’s dress last night was one of his!
http://mrs-o.com/newdata/2013/2/12/state-of-the-union.html
Wow … I’d be on Cloud Nine if I were him too! And I still say last night’s dress looked perfect for a Valentine’s evening out! She looked lovely.
[Triple Threat Malarkey! From Greg Sargent]:
That was quick. John Boehner just shot down Obama’s proposal to hike the federal minimum wage to $9.00 per hour. His rationale was a familiar one.
“When you raise the price of employement, guess what happens? You get less of it,” Boehner said. “What happens when you take away the first couple of rungs on the economic ladder — you make it harder for people to get on the ladder. Our goal is to get people on the ladder and help them climb that ladder so they can live the American dream.”
/////
The debate also provides an opening for Dems to ask a question: If Republicans oppose raising the minimum wage, what specific actions by government do they support to improve social mobility? In other words, what, if anything, do Republicans think government should do to help struggling Americans climb that “ladder” that Boehner referred to — or to access the lowest rung of that ladder in the first place? This argument could help highlight the GOP’s ongoing struggle to articulate a positive role for government to play in improving people’s lives.
.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2013/02/13/bring-it-on-battle-over-minimum-wage-is-underway/
If that was true I would still be earning .88 an hour like back in the 1960′s
It doesn’t matter, Gazelle. PBO knew exactly what Boehner’s reaction would be. But by speaking the words to a vast American tv audience, laying out a vision for a “living” wage, he planted an idea in people’s minds of something they want. The only thing standing in their way to a living wage is 17 seats in the US House–just 17 seats. If we hold the Senate and gain just that many more seats in the House, the living wage is in sight, as our all the other ideas for pre-school education, sensible climate change policies, jobs, infrastructure repair, helping economically depressed town, etc. President Obama just about said these guys won’t get it done, but it can be done if you put your faith in the party that cares about people. That’s why the PPP poll as 67 percent approval of the president’s remarks, as Bill’s post says. The words are said now and aren’t going to be retracted no matter what Boehner may want.
These right wingers need to be voted out of Congress. Every single last one of them. They earn six figure salaries and some months only work for 10 days or less, and yet they won’t even help their fellow citizens who work every day and make $14,500 a year! It’s despicable.
Delurking for a moment. SOTU —–> AWESOME X 1,000,000!!!!!
I am thankful every day that Chips has created this haven for all of us OBOTS to gather and soak in the brilliance of our POTUS PBO, surrounded by like minds without trolls present to bring us down! THANK YOU CHIPS!!! Thank you TODville!!! Don’t know how I’d survive the daily news cycle without TOD.
In trying to guide my Facebook friends away from the MSM, I posted the following before the SOTU yesterday:
“I will be watching the SOTU via live streaming on WhiteHouse.gov, because I’m an intelligent person who can listen and understand what he’s saying for myself. I don’t need network news “journalists” or cable news pundits (not even MSNBC) slicing and dicing his every word to tell me what THEY THINK HE SAID! #tired.of.the.negativity!
Don’t know if it helped them to tune out, but I figured what the heck, it was worth a try.
Have a great day everyone.
I wondered whether my Facebook posts were making a difference, and then slowly started getting responses – often by those who are least interested in politics and one who was a determined right winger. Keep at it – people sometimes just don’t know what options are out there for getting real information – and many don’t even know that they’re being fed a daily diet of lies and propaganda.
You might not see this, but THANK YOU Theo67! I do sometimes wonder if I’m speaking into the infinite wilderness. I will keep trying.
It’s really amazing that anything gets done in this country. And Harry Reid has a hand shake agreement with these guys not to filibuster.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/02/13/rand-paul-threatens-hold-brennan-cia-drones/1916357/
If they don’t have to honor an agreement not to filibuster, what will happen if they do and Harry Reid just ignores them? He should proceed as if no filibuster exists. Two can play that game.
okay, i don’t get this.
I think he was implying that Marco lifted some of his material and use it in his speech.
There was a scene in the movie “Broadcast News” in which his character bombed (flop sweat and everything) on camera.
When the fire started I told my son…..” This reminds me of Waco “
Oh man. Oh man. Now, I wanted Dorner taken alive and tried. Since when is burning him out accepted police practice?
No, no, some one in D.C. Named the cutest little Yellow lab Chuck Todd! He didn’t deserve that. He doesn’t have red hair or goatee. He just a puppy. A very beautiful little puppy.
Does anyone know how the Lew confirmation hearing is going?
Rubio’s Home for Sale
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) told the nation in his State of the Union rebuttal last night, “I still live in the same working-class neighborhood I grew up in.”
But the Miami New Times reports that Rubio “has been trying to sell that house for an un-working-class-like $675,000 so he can up and move his family to godless elite D.C.”
.
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2013/02/13/rubios_home_for_sale.html
I guess he did not bother to read the legal document from the DOJ…..Brennen is not an attorney
Exactly. These teabaggers are so dumb. It’s not for Brennan to answer these questions. He already answered them to the best of his ability during his confirmation hearing. If they want answers as to the legality of the drone program then you ask the White House Special Counsel, then move on to AG Holder and the like.
Is anyone else watching The Following?
I had DVR’d the first 5 episodes and began watching them on Monday.
This show is disturbing and creepy and I feel myself being sucked in, because I need to know, week to week, which one is the crazy. And, I enjoy Kevin Bacon.
anyone else like it?
Yes…it is a really good show. It keeps you coming back for more. Wondering who else is going to be a part of his “cult”??
I’m required to watch it because of the Poe factor, and because of überyummy James Purefoy.
On Feb. 8, unidentified gunmen killed four health workers and injured three others at a site in the Kano state of northern Nigeria, according to the media. In what may have been part of a coordinated attack, at about the same time a separate set of gunmen killed an additional five health workers at another site. The health workers were all involved in a polio vaccination campaign.
In a third incident in the same time frame, gunmen killed three foreign medical doctors in Yobe state. One physician was beheaded, and all three had machete wounds. The three medical doctors were identified as North Koreans living in Yobe as part of a state-sponsored technical exchange. Press reports do not indicate whether the three were also involved in the polio immunization campaign.
In the aftermath of these killings, the inspector general of police has ordered “special security” for those involved in the polio immunization campaign.
/////
Opposition to the polio vaccination is longstanding on the basis that it is a Western and Christian plot sponsored by the Nigerian federal government in Abuja to limit Muslim births. It is a radical Islamist cause that builds on opposition dating back to controversial pharmaceutical trials by the American company Pfizer in the 1990s.
.
More here: http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/Africa-Monitor/2013/0212/Were-health-care-workers-in-Nigeria-murdered-for-doling-out-polio-vaccines
These people are insane – as insane as the tea baggers and gun nuts here. Why would they want children to be exposed to polio, just because they’ve got some crazy conspiracy about a religion that they themselves have corrupted with their murderous activities? Why would they think their actions will encourage people to want to join their religion? It’s a real shame what tragic events happen in the name of religion. Doesn’t have anything to do with spirituality or peace or love.
That’s sick || WA State Senate Republicans introduce bill to repeal Seattle #PaidSickLeave law. http://seati.ms/Ufr51x #waleg #1u

A conversation-ending chart
By Steve Benen
——————————————–
Republican policymakers, who never met an economic truth they didn’t forcefully reject, not only fail to feel any sense of embarrassment, they’re also convinced that this reality isn’t, well, reality. The GOP line is that the deficit is growing even though it’s shrinking; that the nation’s finances are deteriorating even through they’re improving; and that the fastest deficit reduction in six decades that threatens the health of the economy should be even faster, regardless of the consequences.
It’s quite unnerving, actually, to appreciate how unconcerned Republicans seem about the conditions they pretend don’t exist.

I went to a local democratic committee/OFA Watch Party last night. There must have been close to 100 people that showed up. After the SOTU the President came on the phone. He thanked us and said he needed for us to help push the issues he talked about in the SOTU. I signed up for a phone bank for on gun control next Thursday.
When I got home I had to come here and catch up on all of Chip’s posts on the SOTU. I left right after the phone call, so I didn’t hear Rubio’s response until I got here. Thanks to all of you for posting all the tweets and comments on Rubio’s “water problem”.
Hi, Terri! Good to read you. Glad to hear you folks is SJ are still growing strong.
Hi, Alycee! Yes we are still continuing and keep expanding our roles with both OFA and hopefully within our community.
Important news: Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester United. Vamos los Blancos!!
(I will now hide from Chips.)
A ways to go. Isn’t Real Madrid supposed to be astronomically better than MU, at least to Chelsea fans.
Yeah, it’s rather disappointing. That ginger Scholes probably performed some dark sorcery.
On an earlier thread, some zinged the lady sitting next to Ms. Victor for looking less than enthused — maybe, she was intensely listening to PBO.

After seven years, will Medicare finally have a leader?
The Senate Finance Committee has agreed to hold a confirmation hearing
for Medicare administrator nominee Marilyn Tavenner. The move could
end a congressional stalemate over who should lead the agency, which
has been without a confirmed administrator since 2006.

How does Congress get away with this stuff. Can you imagine if you refused to fulfill the roles for your job for 7 years to disastrous effects? Would you still have a six figure job? Be able to demand respect for your position?
Final Man U 1 Real Madrid 1 Chips will be happy, LL and UT devastated.
Why would I be devastated? When it came to Bayern Munich, Chelsea trashed the hell out of them. A team that is incredibly tough to beat. Man U which labels itself the best team ever only drew with Real? That’s laugh my ass off worthy.
From Politico:
Facing stiff Republican opposition to moving quickly on Chuck Hagel’s nomination to be secretary of Defense, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed a cloture motion this afternoon to cut off debate. Sixty votes will be required to cut off debate and then move to an up-or-down vote on the nomination; the vote is scheduled for Friday unless a deal can be reached to hold it earlier.
“This is the first time in the history that a presidential nominee for secretary of defense has been filibustered. What a shame,” Reid said.

I defy anyone to defend Harry Reid’s handshake agreement after being lied to two years ago. The Dems should demand that he step down as Majority leader. He lied to us about filibuster reform and has allowed PBO’s agenda to be trashed.
I respectfully disagree strongly with this unfair attack on Harry Reid! There is no evidence that he had the full support of the Democratic caucus in the Senate. Instead of attacking Reid why not focus our attacks on the vile Republican obstructionists.
When Harry Reid said after the vote that he never intended to shift the burden from the 60-vote rule, that was his admission that he had misled us leading up to this. I never expected a talking filibuster, but I did expect that Harry would fight to make it more difficult for filibuster abuse after what we have seen the last four years.
We got a a few crumbs, but the substance of the agreement is that Republicans must cooperate. We have no indication that they will behave honorably. The Hagel hearings and the absurd demands are proof of that. Republicans can filibuster this, and any other high level nomination if they choose. that is not effective leadership.
The Majority Leader of the administration’s party should help pass the President’s agenda and get his nominees. Every President should be allowed to staff his administration. This is unprecedented. An effective Majority Leader could have made sure he had the votes for at least reasonable filibuster reform,. There are those who say he had the votes and those who say he did not, but the general consensus leading up to his little soiree behind closed doors with McConnell was that he was in the drivers seat (read: he had the votes).
I feel justified in believing that Harry did not stand up for fairness and the end of abuse in the Senate. he did not stand up for our President or his agenda or the future of the courts. The implications of this are very, very serious for PBO’s legacy and the future of the country.
I have to add – I’m talking about policy and how we can get effective policy. 98% of the time I AM attacking Republican obstruction. I will never personally attack anyone on the this site and would appreciate the same courtesy.
” I will never personally attack anyone on the this site and would appreciate the same courtesy.”
I don’t see why my disagreement with your attacks on Harry Reid constitutes a personal attack on you.
That bastard filibustered Hagel-
Reid files cloture on Hagel-vote after Inhofe blocks the nomination
By Ramsey Cox
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed a cloture motion on the nomination of former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) to be the next Secretary of Defense.
Reid said he was forced to file the motion Wednesday because Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and other Republicans “are not willing to consider” Hagel’s nomination. This means Democrats will need 60 votes to advance President Obama’s nomination.

I am pissed!
Are you fucking kidding me? These damned filibuster rules.
Another delay tactic. McCain, Collins, and 2 others would not vote for Filibuster. It is wickedly doing all they can for they simply could. That I blame on Levine for siding with McCain on the talking Filibuster.
Arrrgh! I blame Harry Reid for this! The man had to have been out of his mind when he thought a “gentleman’s agreement” to not abuse the filibuster was worth a cup of spit to the Republicans! He should have pushed through REAL filibuster reform that would allow the opposition to air their concerns, try & win their arguments on the merits through debate on the open floor, but then after a specified time, call a vote and get the people’s business done. Instead, we get more of the same shit. I’m BEYOND pissed!
Susan Collins is a No on Hagel…….
GOP demonstrate again how they “support the troops”.
No on the floor vote to confirm him…..Not No for filibustere.
Filibuster……oops.
And now this -
GOP senators offer alternative immigration enforcement reforms
By Ramsey Cox
Conservative GOP senators expressed concern Wednesday that bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform proposals might promise more than they can deliver.
Sens. David Vitter (R-La.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said they weren’t confident that a comprehensive immigration reform package from a bipartisan group of eight senators would pass because Congress has broken its promises to address border enforcement after passing amnesty measure in the past.

Man, they are being assholes!
Hypocrite.
They don’t. Just want to keep the obstruction going.
