Helloooo Chips! Glad to see you’re having a topmost day! Lawd, is that even a word? Topmost. Sounds spectacular!
Back in the post before Rise&Shine (I think) someone posted a link of photos from GA trip. I think you should grab a couple from there for future cuteness!
Thanks:-)…Did you notice that pic #11….If I am not mistaken…. the guy with the Cell-Phone was able to get a pic of PBO ear…:-)
tehehee….I will take an ear….just to be able to be that close…I doubt..If I could even have the strength to hold a camera…:-):-) Let alone take a pic….
Oh no Magapie, don”t encourage her further! Next thing you know she’ll be dragging out her masterpieces that we managed to get her to leave in the basement a while back.

Obvious that she didn’t listen carefully to the speech—–always too quick to criticize and this time with a completely false insinuation. It’s a game with the media, including MHP, finding fault with anything and everything Obama. Tiresome. Need more integrity in our news biz.
Dotster, I was tempted to tweet her the video of the speech from YouTube with a maybe you should listen again comment. I even clicked on the url, but then I thought, ‘why bother?’
VC, I think you should have tweeted her the video of PBO’s speech, just to let her know that some us do pay attention and listen to what the President actually says, instead of attributing to him things he did not say in order to justify criticizing him. It’s really a shame that the professor, as dotster3 said so well, “didn’t listen carefully to the speech,” before unleashing her criticism of it.
On the other hand, I do understand your hesitance because if she didn’t take time to “carefully listen” to the President’s speech, she probably wouldn’t have bothered to listen to it again. So, why waste your precious time and energy when you could expend it on more productive endeavors. But, as a general principle, these smug pundits, who spread untruths, need to be challenged whenever possible.
Hi Nath! I She was being challenged alright. n truth, there were several folks taking her to task or commenting on her misinterpretation, so, after pausing and considering attaching the video, I shook my head and decided not to.
I can’t fault you VC, because there are times when I act exactly the same way as you did by deciding not to waste time and energy responding to people who are way off when it comes to dealing with reality. At the same time, I am very happy that there were “several folks” on twitter calling out MHP for distorting what President Obama said. I genuinely don’t mind people who disagree with the president on policy and principles. What is so frustrating are people who criticize the president based on lies and distortions of what the President said or what he stands for. Such people, both on the right and the left, are, in my judgement, very difficult to engage in a meaningful conversation.
Absolutely Dotster, “a completely false insinuation” – she heard what she wanted to hear, to back up her already entrenched theory, but PBO most certainly did not say what she implied.
Well said, Dotster3! It’s untruthful (I actually view them as unethical) statements like this that have completely turned me off and led me to stop listening to media pundits.
I raised the same point with MHP. She is criticizing PBO for things that she MHP said were important just last weekend on her program. these people never cease to amaze me
Ha, maybe Magapie! Her tweet not only misrepresented what PBO said, it was ridiculous – a desire to “encourage fatherhood” is somehow blaming single moms for gun violence? That’s shameless from her, he implied nothing of the sort.
I must however confess I find her very cute. Including the slight lisp and……. I think her heart is in the right place but ALL of these punditrons try waaaaay too hard to fill hte atmosphere with comments. Oh NO!! Now I’m gonna get blasted by MHP haters. “THAT SKANK?? YOU THINK THAT LYING SKANK IS HOT?????”
Magpie, may be you are the right person to deliver a message to her urging her to stop distorting what the President said. You could begin by confessing how much you adore her. Then you could proceed to point out that although you find her to be “very cute” you just didn’t appreciate her making up shit about what the President said.
How many RTing @MHarrisPerry's complete misrepresentiion of what Pres Obama said re single moms/fatherhood actually listened to the speech?— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) February 16, 2013
They can’t help themselves. The president says something smart, decent and heartfelt and they have to destroy it. This was a speech filled with terrific ideas and deep compassion. But if pundits of any sort admitted the truth of what PBO said and actually supported it, they’d have to question their own identity. They embrace cynicism as a tool of their trade, while PBO addresses those who are eager to move beyond cynicism and embrace hope. With every word he says he’s reinforcing faith in our government and optimism for the future. Hope, change you can believe in, is what it’s always been about. Making us citizens again, rather than cynics.
How on earth could she disagree with any of this – and twist and misrepresent it??
There are entire neighborhoods where young people — they don’t see an example of somebody succeeding. For a lot of young boys and young men in particular, they don’t see an example of fathers or grandfathers, uncles, who are in a position to support families and be held up in respect. And so that means that this is not just a gun issue; it’s also an issue of the kinds of communities that we’re building.
….. There’s no more important ingredient for success, nothing that would be more important for us reducing violence than strong, stable families, which means we should do more to promote marriage and encourage fatherhood. (Applause.)
You know, I — don’t get me wrong. As the son of a single mom who gave everything she had to raise me, with the help of my grandparents, you know, I turned out OK.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Yes you did.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: But — (applause) — no, no, but — but I think it’s — you know, so we got single moms out here, they’re heroic, what they’re doing, and we are so proud of them. (Applause.) But at the same time, I wish I had had a father who was around and involved.
Loving, supportive parents — and by the way, that — that’s all kinds of parents. That includes foster parents, and that includes grandparents and extended families. It includes gay or straight parents. (Applause.) Those parents — (sustained applause) — those parents supporting kids, that’s the single most important thing. Unconditional love for your child — that makes a difference.
I think it’s actually very sick to hear PBO talk about parenting in this way and not see that he was talking about the loving support of children by COMMUNITIES. She’s getting her own buttons pushed for whatever reasons and it’s NONSENSE. I’m so sick of people twisting PBO’s words every damn day.
That’s the thing Meta, if she actually argued with him over something he actually said, then fine – but why the **** did she feel the need to misrepresent him?
She’s expressing resentment that whenever PBO speaks to black audiences, it always seems to lean towards telling them to be better parents, which implies that black parents AREN’T good parents.
Well, needless to say, I don’t see it that way Squarepeg. He’s never once implied black parents aren’t good parents, he has simply addressed the issue, in a very personal way, of absentee fathers – when he doesn’t personalize/humanize issues he’s criticized, when he does he gets the same. I’m tired of all.
That’s part of MHP’s issue, Chippy. To her (and to West and Smiley, for that matter) whenever PBO speaks to black audiences, he always lands on the subject of absentee fathers, as if that’s all black people are and where all our problems come from, a people without fathers. They resent that because it makes them look flawed.
I get you Squarepeg. I have zero respect for West and Smiliey, they’re clowns, but MHP has done some great work – that’s why it gets me that she completely misrepresented what PBO said today. She should leave that kind of thing to Tapper, Todd and Co.
You know what, though? Even if that IS what PBO was saying….SO WHAT? I mean, it’s not like it’s not at least SOME part of the problem, IMHO. I mean, gun violence is a multifaceted problem. You have the overflow of guns in our streets (NOT the parents fault) combined with the absence of good parents, OR lack of good parenting. So if THAT’s what MHP’s having a problem with PBO saying, then she needs to go sit down, because he’s right…black folks just like don’t like being told what to do, that’s all (as a black folk I can say that lol)
Anyone who talks about “problems” in the Black community without honestly acknowledging the issue of absentee fathers is a FRAUD in my opinion. In fact, I would view this President quite differently if he didn’t talk about this issue – ESPECIALLY considering that he himself experienced that kind of abandonment first hand.
I think Melissa H. Perry is full of alot of crap, I’m a black woman and I know there are good black parents out there, and yes there are good black single parents out there too, good divorce parents out there, but let us not kid ourselves I also know that there are fathers out there who are absent from their kids lives, who refuse to pay a dime in child support, but they have kids all over the place. I don’t fine one problem with the President bringing this subject up.
May I add this late observation to this post? It is not just black families that have single mothers, or fathers or live in dysfunctional relationships. Everyone knows the divorce rate is high. There are lots of whites in he same situations.
:sorry, didn’t mean that you weren’t aware. Guess I think MHP wasn’t aware. And how Smiley, etc. weren’t giving him credit for reaching out more to blacks.
If MHP is honest about what is going on in these communities, she would know exactly what PBO means – and not misinterpret his words in that way. But she is intellectually dishonest and very patronizing when she pretends that acknowledgement of absentee fathers as problematic for these communities is the same thing as blaming single mothers for gun violence.
“How on earth could she disagree with any of this – and twist and misrepresent it??”
Exactly my sentiments, Chipsticks! It is as if these pundits think we are all stupid and we need them to interpret for us what the President actually said despite the fact that that we listened to, and read, what he actually said. MHP not only “twisted and misrepresented” what the President said, but she also insulted the intelligence of many of us who listened, or read, carefully what the President actually said.
@ReignOfApril Somehow MHP wants to believe that the man who proved a single mother can raise a POTUS is throwing shade at single moms. SMH.— docrocktex (@docrocktex26) February 15, 2013
Indeed. Does she know that would mean “his” mom is also responsible for gun violence? Do people think before they speak (or tweet)? There are meta analysis studies out there that show that kids from two parent home have a stability edge that those from one parent home may not have.
It is not every kid, but in the aggregate this is true. While single mom, do fine most of the time, it is still the case that struggling alone to provide they will face hardships that a 2 parent home may not see. If a parent of a single parent home loses a job or gets sick there is a direct, immediate and significant financial stress put on the home. A two parent home might not experience those effects depending on what job the spouse has.
Couldn’t agree more with you, Cman. It’s just beyond me how anyone could argue that is not a good thing for a child to grow up in a stable, two-parent family – and how saying that somehow implies that single moms are failures. They are, as PBO said, heroic.
Well said, Chips! The President even went beyond the importance of two parents to emphasize the importance of community. I distinctly remember how Hillary Clinton’s book, “It takes a Village,” about raising children, was the rave of feminists of all colors. I also distinctly remember Black folks being enthusiastic about Louis Farrakhan’s “Million Man March” which called on Black men to atone for their irresponsibility of not providing for their families. At no time did the President blame what he called “heroic single mothers” for gun violence. What was so disappointing for me is that MHP is a professor who knows fully that the issue of gun violence stems from a variety of causes, many of which the President addressed in today’s Chicago speech, and has addressed in other speeches.
Cman, I am of the opinion that pundits throw these inflammatory comments/summaries/whatever out there to stir up the ‘masses’ and draw more attention to themselves. After MHP engaged in this ‘dialogue’ I noticed a tweet stating that she was on RevAl and her position/comments seemed different again. Sometimes I wonder if it’s all game playing to them.
“Sometimes I wonder if it’s all game playing to them.”
VC, I think you are onto something here. Because no honest person could have listened to the President today and then concluded that the President was blaming gun violence on single mothers.
It;s not that you don’t mess with our President, anyone can disagree with our President, but you don’t lie about what he said. And POTUS did not put down single Mothers or try to say that single Mothers were responsible for gun violence. What’s up with MHP? Is she going through something. I said this last week and I will keep saying it, MSNBC need to get some darn sense and hire Joy Reid. Replace MHP with Ms. Reid..

Loved the speech. Favorite part was when he told those boys that he was no different from them when he was younger. He just had a safety net, a more forgiving environment than they did. It’s sooo true. You have states that actually try to help kids and then you have states who think locking kids up is the answer.
GB, I’ll bet part of the difference is that prisons weren’t privitized in PBO’s youth. Now that organizations that run prisons make money on volume, the incentive is to keep stuffing them with as many prisoners as possible, rather than working on alternatives to incarceration.
GB, I also loved and appreciated that part. The President was speaking for many of us men who, without our families and/or ” a more forgiving environment” might have ended up in trouble.

I think we all know that carolmaewy, but I speak to what I know as a black American.
She’s thinking of Romney in the second debate. Please proceed MHP….
Sounds just like, you know, Cornell West, who talked trash about her.
Indeed. Does she know that would mean “his” mom is also responsible for gun violence? Do people think before they speak (or tweet)? There are meta analysis studies out there that show that kids from two parent home have a stability edge that those from one parent home may not have.
http://parenting247.org/article.cfm?ContentID=646
It is not every kid, but in the aggregate this is true. While single mom, do fine most of the time, it is still the case that struggling alone to provide they will face hardships that a 2 parent home may not see. If a parent of a single parent home loses a job or gets sick there is a direct, immediate and significant financial stress put on the home. A two parent home might not experience those effects depending on what job the spouse has.
Can we not let, emotion rule reason? Jeez.
I think it is vc. I’m beginning to think it is.
Reid..
By “messing with our President” I meant just what you said – that she was lying about what PBO said.
Okay hopefruit2, I understand, I didn’t before, but I do now.
Dear Melissa, I once thought you were very bright, when you occasionally appeared on Bill Moyers. Now, I reckon you would do well to, how shall I say, Put a Sock in It?! Yes, please.
She’s just plain projecting, & she knows better. That’s all.
Wow! That photo w/ AF1 & tower is amazing! Luv!

Oi you, if you’re not careful I’ll post that pic of you. You know, this one:
Oh my! What a nice round belly & decorated w/ stunning tats! /trying that mantra to take away the nightmare! YIKES Chips, I’m going to have to look under my bed, make sure all closets are shut tight!
I need a blindfold.
Good for him and his team! I wonder what he’s going to do with all that money. Do you have his phone number, Amk?
The clean-up-your-computer guy cleaned up your visa, didn’t he?
Close enough. So DO you have the new millionaire’s phone number?
I have kerry’s no. I heard he cleaned up pretty good from some old dood named buffet.
smh Fine, that’s it, stand in the way of this new chance for me to climb out of poverty!
He took everything I had.
JFK, MLK, RFK were the beginning.
Lovely to see PBO at home, relaxed, and happy.

WOW I can hardly see, but I can tell he’s swamped by people at the airport.
It’s TGIF & I’m adding words to the Dick-tionary:
McQuackery. A condition most prevelant in those who lost the 2008 Presidential election & forthwith frequent MTP stage, host is a carrier.
Used in a sentence: “John McCain has been afflicted with a terminal case of McQuackery.”
LOL! Get Obamacare pronto if you’ve been exposed!
No wonder the Pope resigned. He wanted his Obamacare before he came down with a nasty case of McQuackery. His Holiness didn’t want to be a statistic. He filed his application for Obamacare the same day he resigned.
Alas, he was one of the first cases of McQuackery!
Gazelle, you are so creative!
Oooooh, I’m doing that from tomorrow – my Jim!!
You sweet beautiful man!!
yeah, yeah, that’s all fine.Where is my munny?
Not any women I know say they’re going to the John or Jim.
Cool for POTUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fox news again-
Really?
Um, when do they think they’ll vote for him in the future?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This is too funny…I’m on the floor. Oh my…..
Yup, yup for edumateakashian! So adding that to the Dick-tionary!
They couldn’t be more ridiculous, could they? Maybe they’re afraid PBO will run for president again in his 70s. Of course, what they really mean is if a kids grow up smart, they’ll vote for Democrats, so, in a way, they’re right.
“if kids grow up smart, they’ll vote for Democrats”
And that there is their greatest fear – you said it, Jackie!
I wish! I know I am going to blasphemy, but I wouldn’t mind him being President for Life.
HA!
Really smart and responsible kids for unplugging the t.v. But throwing out the wine was not right. Even Jesus served wine to his disciples at the Last Super. Wine is sacred and should never be associated with “a vegetative state.” I can absolutely attest to the fact that the mind is extremely alert after a glass or two of good CA red wine.
Where is our President in this matter?
It’s gone global now. Also. Too. In australia. Free markets, baby.
Are you serious? Then PBO might really wind up making a statement or two….(I thought I was joking for a while there)
But, Russian Radar would have picked it up?
Strange!
Problem is in daytime radar cant pickup very well b/c of sun’s interference, much easier at night.
“Since Vladimir Putin reclaimed the Russian presidency, U.S. officials said the number of such flights in the vicinity of the Aleutian Islands and Alaska have increased, but encounters with U.S. aircraft have remained “generally very professional.”
‘flights ….in the vicinity of …Alaska…have increased – Hmmm. Was Putin a friend of the Alaska Barbie? Is that why he’s trying to make her relevant again?

Thanks Jovie!
There is another rumor going around alleging that Obama supports women’s right to chose because he wants to kill all babies who plan to vote for Republicans in the future.

Ms. Chips…………you are the best,
Don’t you be making me all blushy, Lynn! Thank you so much!
If only Ezra Klein would piss off!
I have to ask Lawrence why he doesn’t get Joy Reid to fill in for him sometimes. I did not watch Ezra Klein.
Job security. Joy would be a threat.
Last!
