This Salon article is offensive on its face. Nobody has to be a “secret Muslim”. This implies there’s something wrong with being Muslim, when being Muslim is just being another member of one of the world’s religions – a billion members strong. We don’t see anyone saying people are secret Catholics, secret Evangelicals, secret Buddhists, etc. The myth that has been cooked up by those who love to hate is that a billion people who follow a pretty peaceful religion are all terrorists! There are probably less dangerous people in the Muslim faith than the number of Catholic priests who abused small children, or even less than those who historically massacred millions in the name of God. I can only imagine how Muslim Americans feel when they see this kind of stuff being propagated by so-called liberal blogs like Salon.

I really thought they were playing off the whole ‘secrit muslim’ conspiracy theories of the right. I’ve seen lots of posts referring sarcastically to “sekrit muslims” (bad spelling intentional) on lots of liberal posts. I’ve never seen people react as if it was offensive. I see what you’re saying but it’s not as if the Salon article is saying that being Muslim is something to be secret about – they’re making fun of people who do.

Salon was reaching on that one. But, I noticed that every local newsanchor who went to interview the president this week had his/her picture taken with Bo! He is definitely TOP DOG with everyone. And the smiles when with Bo, were huge! That dog just makes people smile and feel good.

I do have a little problem with the cartoon. The sombrero (with tassels no less) implies that the “problem” of immigration is all about Mexico and it’s not. There are tens of thousands of paperless immigrants from Ireland & the UK. Plenty from other countries in the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Latin America as a whole. When the RW talks about “illegals” they ALWAYS mean Mexicans.

In Japan. Google. There were at least 2-3 towns or cities in Japan Named Obama. The largest city had a delegation in Jan 2009 at the 1st Inauguration. They adopted then sen Obama in 2008.

What a smile both of them brought to all of us while uncle Ted was still physically with us. Everytime I see Bo; I think of Mrs. Kennedy and Sen. Kennedy. I am happy Sen. Warren paid tribute to Senator Kennedy on his 81st birthday. In my opinion, Senator Edward (Teddy) M. Kennedy will go down as one of the greatest Senators in U.S. history. Massachusetts has produced great Senators (for example, Daniel Webster and Charles Sumner), so Teddy Kennedy is in a great company. I have very high hopes that Sen. Elizabeth Warren will carry on the tradition of Sen. Charles Sumner and Sen. Teddy Kennedy in fighting on behalf of the oppressed.
February seems to be one of the months that so many people who accomplished great deeds were born in. And the state of Massachusetts has produced some of the most passionate fighters for freedom and equality. Tomorrow, Feb. 23rd, is the 145 birthday of the Great African American Scholar, W. E. B. DuBois, another son of Massachusetts, who had a tremendous influence on American scholarship and on the world wide struggle for freedom, peace and human dignity. In many ways, DuBois was one the pioneers of the modern Civil Rights Movement. He, along with others that we must celebrate during Black History Month, laid the foundation for the next generations that produced leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King. This year (April 18) DuBois’ Classical book (a collection of essays) “The Souls of Black Folks” will be 110 years. I first read “The Souls of Black Folks” in 1967, my sophomore year in college, and it truly opened my eyes about the history and complexity of race/racism in America.
I hope tomorrow the people of Massachusetts (his birthplace), and the people throughout the U.S., will also pay tribute to another giant who dedicated his life to the struggle for freedom, peace and human dignity. Unlike some of our current successful AA like Dr. Carson, who believe that their success came primarily as a result of their individual efforts, Dr. DuBois always stressed the importance of “WE” and not the “I” in the struggle to improve the lives of all people, and especially people of African descent. He did that, despite his accomplishment as the first AA to earn a PhD from Harvard.

Alright. The Oscars are this Sunday. I always root for Denzel and since he is nominated (but he ain’t got a chance of winning, that’s gonna go to Daniel Day Lewis for playing Abe Lincoln), I’m gonna continue to root for him. So anyway, I haven’t seen any of the movies nominated for best picture or any of the movies that all the lead actor/actresses and supporting actor/actresses are in. Anybody see any of the movies nominated either for picture or acting? I kinda want to see Silver Lining Playbook. Chris Tucker is also in this movie:
I saw Lincoln. It was so good, but I’m a history buff.
Loved this movie. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence perfect in their roles—–in fact all perfectly cast. It’s one of those movies that you are loving it every minute and don’t want it to end.
Silver Linings is incredible, Jennifer Lawrence is my favorite young actress. 22 and two Oscar noms(winters bone…She is so humble read this interview, shows how down to earth she is http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/jennifer-lawrence-americas-kick-ass-sweetheart-20120412 this is from 2009 before even Hunger games.

What I like about the picture with my First Lady Michelle Obama and Ms Roberts is that she really shouldn’t be hugging anyone because her immune system is still so fragile but she wen ahead and embraced Mrs. Obama. I love that.
