    I LOVE MY FIRST LADY!!!

Um, and uh, well… Jimmy Fallon looks just a little too good as a “mom” He had on make-up, mascara and everything. I almost didn’t know that “she” was Jimmy Fallon.

And yes, Michelle Obama can dance!! That was just too cute!! Anything to keep it moving! “LET’S MOVE!!”

  9. February 22, 2013 at 7:31 pm

Unbelievable!!! That Mom Dancing video was a hoot.

But don’t be surprised if the “why is-FL-Michelle-Obama-reinforcing-50s-style-domesticating-roles-for-women” crowd comes out swinging against this promo for healthy living. I can almost hear that WAPO journo Jodi Kantor breathlessly huffing and puffing on the airwaves about reinforcing patriarchy. And as usual the whole purpose of the program will be lost on them.

    • February 22, 2013 at 7:33 pm

Ah yeah Zizi, we’ll probably hear it from them alright – but then, they’re folk who don’t understand the term ‘evolution’!

zizi2, do we really give a “D” what those people think? Really!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • February 22, 2013 at 7:59 pm

 of course we don’t. Just forecasting the Obama derangement Doppler radar readings that will likely follow this program. They have become so predictable, any of us can write their diatribe in our sleep.

You all remember the one (can’t remember her name now) who said PBO describing his daughters as “strong and beautiful you g ladies” was being condescending to women and promoting women’s unhealthy self-image and oppression of women by focusing on their “beauty”? I fell off my chair when I saw that.

Another one just recently wrote that she is tired of FL Michelle Obama being perky all the time and over “mommyfication”.

The fact that such a role of healthily celebrating motherhood and children was historically denied women of color, has never crossed these naysayers’ minds. The fact that black women were overworked from the era of slavery until recently both in economic reproduction and social reproduction terms doesn’t register with these monolithic purveyors of upper class feminisms. Naw, for them only Betty Friedan’s upper class suburban women’s “problem without a name” is the only reality worth attention

How about the self-appointed leaders of the femist movement get out there and do their job and leave FLOTUS alone. One thing Michelle said that her Mother told her, that not everybody is going to like you and that is so true. The fact is there are plenty of people who do love and admire our FLOTUS just as she is.

        • February 22, 2013 at 9:16 pm

Their ire and their breathless anticipation of things to criticize the Obamas over is just one more thing to celebrate because of the re-election of President Obama. They can’t do a single thing about the Obamas living in the White House for the next four years, and the Obama family take such joy in everything they do, that the bitterness of those who oppose them is that much sweeter for us to enjoy. Someone needs to bottle their tears – they must be delicious. :)

Who cares about women in the media who are, all the time, insanely jealous of the myriad of positive aspects of Michelle Obama – this is a FLOTUS who is secure in herself – she is an example of taking the best from the 50s and using it to empower the Moms of 2013.

My mom was a 50s at home mom – and I loved her for it – but the lack of choice of lifestyle laid heavily upon her in later years – Mrs Obama has made amazing choices – and encourages everyone she touches to do the same.

Indeed, Hopefruit! Both POTUS and FLOTUS are comfortable with who they are. I am glad that the First Lady has a great sense of humor and has no inhibitions about having a good time. I may be mistaken, since I am a man, but I don’t think being a liberated woman means that you have to be a miserable person. As the saying goes, the First Lady knows how to walk and chew gum at the same time. She knows how to deal with every occasion she is faced with.

I just luv, luv, luv this! I was trying to imagine any of our former first ladies agreeing to do this and carrying it off with such fun. Well, I guess if that horse lady had made it to the WH, we may be watching a horse opera with Rafalca tonight instead.

cookemom – I was thinking the same – I got back to Mamie Eisenhower (a true wife of the 50s) & then decided the last 1st lady who was her own person was Eleanor Roosevelt – who although very different to Michelle Obama, had forward looking attitudes that created much controversy during her time in the white house.

Eleanor didn’t have the moves of Michelle – but she had the words.

        February 22, 2013 at 8:02 pm

And the voice and the causes. She apparently convinced ol’ FDR to do lots of things, that related to civil rights at that time – and beyond. She was the “Michelle Obama” of her time! :)

        • 42 nathkatun7
          February 23, 2013 at 2:35 am

Yes indeed! And Eleanor Roosevelt (EA) received her share of criticism during her time, but she never paid much attention to it. Like Michelle Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt was more focused on improving the lives of people. When all is said and done, no one remembers all those media people who were critical of First Lady, ER! But historians have recorded her pioneering work in advancing the cause of Civil Rights. A very good friend of my family, who passed away five years ago, was a World War II veteran. He told me that most AA in the military were convinced that it was Eleanor Roosevelt, who convinced FDR to allow Blacks in combat.

        February 22, 2013 at 8:04 pm

I don’t remember Eleanor Roosevelt, before my time. But all the First Ladies deserve respect and when I say what I’m about to say I mean no disrespect toward any of them, but Mrs. Obama is my choice. I admire and respect her so much.

      • 45 jackiegrumbacher
        February 22, 2013 at 9:49 pm

99ts, yes, elegant words. Eleanor in her time was extremely innovative in the way she conceived the role of first lady. She was painfully shy, but she stepped out and did what was the hardest thing for her–public speaking– because she cared so much about helping her husband and forwarding human rights and world peace. And she, too, endured much criticism and a whole lot of hatred directed toward herself personally and toward her family. She was also a passionate champion of civil rights and tried to push her husband to take bolder steps in that direction than he was willing to.

FLOTUS and POTUS are such good sports!!    You know, I think one of the reasons I love them both is that they are well-rounded people – they can be focused, serious, on-point, etc AND they know how to ‘let it all hang out’, yet with class! I love you, FLOTUS, I really, really do, and I am also TREMENDOUSLY PROUD of who you are, inside and out!!!!

I agree with you that Ted Cruz is dangerous and unhinged. I commented today that his physical resemblance to Joe McCarthy is uncanny. The author of the article, Jane Mayer, will be on The Rachel Maddow Show tonight. She is brilliant and exemplifies what real journalism looks like. I am really looking forward to the interview.

Or maybe “the Canadians” would adopt us? << they just have to come over the border. I love my country and do not plan to leave it or give up on it, but these crazy RWNJ people are multiplyin'. Speechless beyond words (but I’m tweeting the video out).

No one, regardless of how they feel about President Obama, can deny that Michelle is the ONLY FLOTUS who could look so cool and upstage Jimmy without breaking a sweat.

No wonder the RWNJs hate PBO so much; except for name-calling there’s nothing they can do to dilute Michelle’s awesomeness!

The EMK Institute sent me this 4-year old video – a tribute to Ted Kennedy who would have been 81 today. I thought some of our TODers would like to see it, especially since it shows Sunny and Splash, Senator Kennedy’s Portuguese water dogs who are relatives of Bo.

Struck me so funny, I called my 44-y/o son (who actually knows who BJ Thomas is – you younguns might want to visit wiki) and told him. My son chuckled and said, “What a great life you have, mom.” I think he truly saw how great this was. Didn’t he? Ha!

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called John, the 11 year old next door whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over …

John clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, ‘So, what was wrong?

He replied, ‘It was an ID ten T error.’

I didn’t want to appear 20 stupid, but nonetheless inquired, ‘An, ID ten T error? What’s that? In case I need to fix it again.’

John grinned. ‘Haven’t you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?”

    No,’ I replied.

‘Write it down,’ he said, ‘and I think you’ll figure it out.’

    So I wrote down: I D 1 0 T.

        Ok, how about this?

One day a secretary is leaving on her lunch break, and she notices her boss standing in front of a shredder with a clueless look on his face. The secretary walks up to him and asks if he needs help.

“Yes!” he says looking and sounding relieved, “This is very important.”

Glad to help, she turns the shredder on and inserts the paper. Then her boss says: “Thanks, I only need one copy.”

        • 150 jacquelineoboomer
          February 22, 2013 at 8:53 pm

When I wrote “sorry” (Ha), I meant sorry “your” neighbor said that to “you” (my little joke).

Now, the secretary chuckle was even better, because I started out as one and had a similar experience myself way back in the early years. My first lawyer boss once dictated five letters to me. When he was done, and before I stood up to go back to my desk, he asked me if I had the first one typed up yet. I repeat: before I stood up to go back to my desk. Ha! I think he became a judge. I became something other than a secretary, ’cause, ya know, had enough of those “big” laughs!

After the father of Kimani is jailed for following tribal customs, Kimani joins a band of rebels that wants all non-Kenyans out of their country. and i’ve always wondered about president obama’s move to nominate judd gregg for commerce way back when (judd declined). if my president knew he would decline, then that was a good move, but if judd would’ve become commerce sec, that would’ve been terrible. president obama is probably as close to perfect as any president ever, but i always wondered about that move. oh, and a pet peeve of mine is feet up on desks, and he does that a lot. oh, and i really don’t like the charter school scam, but overall, president obama is basically perfect. if i had millions of dollars right now, i’d be forming the nonprofit to make sure he was the next face on mt. rushmore.

Hi Y’all…I have been MIA and just lurking mainly b/c I have just been so disturbed by the direction that it seems the USA is headed…I have a picture in my mind that PBO is standing at a cliff, pushing back as hard as he can, but no matter how hard he tries to hold on the country is sliding over. It’s happening here in NC…totally controlled by the Tea Party nuts….making laws about women’s nipples while we have one of the 5 highest unemployment rates in the country….changing unemployment laws to the harshest in the country…rejecting medicaid expansion of “Obamacares”…trying to force the University of NC system to do away with liberal arts(I guess b/c they don’t like the word liberal)…it’s something new everyday…..It’s as if NC is being controled by Virginia Fox channeling Jesse Helms…..but it’s not just NC…it’s a lot of the whole country ala Ted Cruz mentality……and it really disturbs me….I am 70 yrs old and I have never, ever known the stupidity to this degree…where did all the common sense go to?…..WHAT HAPPENED and how did we let it happen?….I know a lot of you will say it’s underlying bigotry and I agree a lot of it is but that’s not all of it….Is it the religious right?…I know the 1st Baptist Church in my town has become so right wing Evangelical that I don’t know anyone in my universe that goes there any longer and it use to be just a normal main stream Church….I’m asking questions here…this is frightening to me and has gone beyond the political…it’s pervasive.
