I don’t know if anyone else has posted this but “Hubris” not only was great ratings for Rachel’s show, she said last night that it was the highest rated documentart that MSNBC ever had!!!! Rachel said there would therefore be many more like it.

What were the ratings? She usually gets about 800k.

        TVbytheNumbers.com

Dr. Maddow had 900K viewers for the Hubris Documentary.

She averages about a 1M plus these days. When she was on Drones for about 10 days or so, her rates was in the 800K level.

“there would therefore be many more like it.”

Yup – probably with a focus on Barack Obama, not on the GOP. However, MSNBC can expect that the ratings won’t be as hot if they push that angle.

As if Illinois didn’t have a big enough gun problem—–a federal appeals court has rejected a rehearing on a case ordering Illinois to allow citizens to carry guns in public. These kind of rulings are infuriating and incomprehensible—-it’s like much of our judiciary has been bought by the gun industry too. More guns, more guns, more guns—–to hell with the consequences and the increased risk to the population.

That’s what happens when Republicans stack the courts and stall PBO from nominating judges.

The idiocy of so many who think it’s only about legislation or executive orders. A President can remake the federal courts for generations. Bush was allowed to stack the courts, and they’re stopping PBO from filling the vacancies.

      February 22, 2013 at 5:06 pm

Make sure you let Whole Foods know why you’re not shopping there anymore. During the last boycott, they got the message. They need to hear it again. This is beyond offensive. It’s racist stereotyping. And it’s entirely brazen, given that most Whole Foods shoppers are Democrats, who support this President.

The problem is that most Americans don’t have a clue what this sequester is all about – apparently, the latest polling (per Randi Rhodes) shows about 72% have no idea what it is. And that’s what the GOP is counting on. When unemployment starts to rise, and the economy starts suffering, they’ll just point to the President’s signature on the sequester law, and ignore the fact that they are the ones who passed the bill because it was supposed to incentivize them into action. Many people just don’t pay attention.

        February 22, 2013 at 2:07 pm

We all know that difference, that’s for sure. We have national security when a Democrat (oh, let’s just say someone like the wonderful President Barack Obama) is in the White House. We have war when W and his ilk are in the White House.

It’s official. All Republicans are sociopaths. Every. Single. One:

“The mother of a young man killed in the Aurora, Colo. movie theater massacre told TPM on Thursday she was appalled at the way Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) handled her question about an assault weapons ban at a town hall event in Phoenix. […]

At Wednesday’s town hall, Teves told McCain that her son, Alex, was killed in the massacre, and she urged the senator to support a ban on assault weapons. McCain responded: “I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States.”

    • February 22, 2013 at 12:50 pm

You’re right…the Republicans are sociopaths. McCain should have expressed his sympathy, but he just told her the truth. Those cowards in Congress will never pass an assault weapons ban and I’m not certain they should. What is an assault weapon? If they define it, the manufacturers will just modify the weapons. If they try and name them all, the way they did before, the manufacturers will give the weapons a new name. If they will limit the capacity of the magazines, I would think that will do it. Now, will they even have the courage to do that? (…putting my head down and quietly going away…)

      • 55 57andfemale
        February 22, 2013 at 12:57 pm

I feel your frustration but this is a long term war. Because the war continues, doesn’t mean we don’t continue to fight the battles. I have a problem with this reasoning: just because it won’t be perfect doesn’t mean we shouldn’t move to do something. By this logic, just because people run stop signs doesn’t mean we stop installing stop signs.

There will always be people who find loopholes, and we work to plug them. These are long term wars – if we don’t look like there is some commitment to our problem with gun violence in this country, then we are indeed doomed. handguns are more a problem than the assault weapons (unless for the gangs on the streets of Chicago) but there is no way we can talk in this political climate about handgun reform. But if we see a commitment to thwarting gun violence, we build on that. It may take a decade if not longer. But with each battle that we win, no matter how small, we start to change public perception where eventually responsibility to the rights of the innocent becomes a meme.

      • 56 theo67
        February 22, 2013 at 6:06 pm

They need to know that it’s not ok that they will not pass the assault weapons ban, and that they then offer no reasonable alternative plan. It’s one thing to say you won’t do the right thing, it’s quite another when you have face the consequences – and that’s going to be down to the American people to show them the consequences.

They both say he has had an excellent trip to Israel and Jordan. We no longer have reporters, but the MSM is going to sell Rubio to no one as hard as they try.

Obama Has a Deficit Reduction Plan and Republicans Don’t

    By Matthew Yglesias

    —————————————-

What Chait doesn’t note is that this particular mode of BipartisanThink has a particularly egregious problem because not only have Republicans been intransigent they’ve never produced a deficit reduction plan. Somewhere on the road to crowning Rep. Paul Ryan the champion of spending discipline, people seem to have forgotten that over the next ten years Ryan’s budget would reduce Medicare spending by $0. Outside of the formal framework of the Ryan budget, Republicans have repeatedly suggested that we should increase short-term Medicare spending by eliminating Medicare cuts associated with the Affordable Care Act. The Ryan budget allegedly reduces fiscal problems over the long-term by slowly phasing-in Medicare cuts starting 11 years in the future. But within the medium-term window, Republicans have never put forward a deficit reduction plan. They’ve simply suggested the vague-but-politically-convenient concept that this can be achieved without raising taxes on anyone or cutting spending on any of the currently elderly or the military.

    GIVE THE TEXAN TIME

    Taking McCarthyism literally

    ————————————–

Though Cruz is nowhere near McCarthy’s level — give the Texan time, he only joined the Senate last month — the accusations are not without merit. We saw repeated examples of this during Cruz’s campaign against Chuck Hagel’s Defense Secretary nomination, which led Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) to recently note, “It was really reminiscent of a different time and place, when you said, ‘I have here in my pocket a speech you made on such and such a date,’ and, of course, nothing was in the pocket. It was reminiscent of some bad times.”

It was a trick Cruz leaned on repeatedly to question Hagel’s loyalty and patriotism, going so far as to suggest, without evidence, the former Republican senator may have received unreported funds from foreign enemies of the United States.

But Jane Mayer reports today that it wasn’t too long ago that Cruz delivered a speech at a Fourth of July weekend political rally, sponsored by the Koch brothers’ political group, accusing Harvard Law School of harboring secret Communists on its faculty

I’m just wondering if I have the program. I don’t have a URL, so how could anyone retweet my tweets on TOD? I looked it up on wiki and it is what I thought it was. Also, I have a touch screen iPad. The first DM you sent to me and I thought I replied to took me to a twitter page I don’t normally get. I RT, but you didn’t get. Bob has gotten them before. Some people have a DM when I click on their little black head on their ME page, but you don’t have it. I’ll call if that’s easier, I just thought I would explain what I couldn’t in a tweet. Thank you so much for trying to help me.
