Woodward was assigned to the city desk, I think it was, the one that covered police matters and things that came before the judge. I’m paraphrasing. It could have went by a different name, but he was there when the Watergate burglars were brought in for first hearing. Don’t remember details after that and why he followed up on it. I could even have him mixed up with Bernstein. He was a Rthug then and he is now. He doesn’t deny it.
A watergate hero who has now completely lost his marbles! His loved ones, including his media enablers, should have urged him to quit while he was still ahead. He is coming across as a very deluded person in need of medical intervention.
I caught that on another thread. Hadn’t heard about it. Where did you get the green square? I turned my Home page orange in support of a dog today. Wednesday was a big day for protests.
really must be hard keeping up–birthcert, then transcripts, yada yada, hagel, immigrants. now this scalia thing, and then what? vote yes to end the sequester? the rethug heads are spinning and exploding at the same time!
Dudette, isn’t it amazing how alive and in tune with the world she is and how drab, lifeless and out of touch the right wing justices seem? If Sotomayer were the Chief Justice with just one more like minded Associate Justice we would have a Supreme Court we could be proud of and one that led us forward not backward as a democracy.
My brain is exhausted from a long day and trying to catch up on all the news of the day…..is it possible that Scalia really wants to be Pope? I hear there’s an opening at the Vatican….I think he may be more suited for that! I hope that man rots in hell.He makes a mockery of the laws and values of this country.
Sorry, job:) His mind IS gone, to be sure…..I’d wish just about anything right now to get his sorry, racist ass out of that cushy seat he sits in. He has no damn business being there.
Yes – I meant as Pope. Not only is he a Catholic, but I believe Alito is, too, and that’s their choice, but – worse for me – both of them have connections to Trenton, NJ, where I was born, and that makes me sicker than anything else thinking that!
At least they left. Is it the better for it. I don’t think there are any Protestants on the bench anymore. I called him bad, bad names. I’d like to see a few well written letters in the NYTs and the Wash. Post. protesting Scalias comment. They’re not above criticism by the people. Well, I’ve got Cheney and Simpson to be ashamed of in WY.
DF, I am not Catholic, but I have family members who are. I love them so much that I would not want them to have this evil man as their spiritual leader. It would cause them too much pain.
It’s okay, Carol. Obscure reference. It was a nutty free association thing that popped into my head when I read that John Miller tweet above. Bernice was a nutcase on the show Designing Women who used to torment poor Anthony with silliness like this song.
Jesse was the love of my life. I am glad those who support guns have to listen to this – I so wish it would give them nightmares – but they care not. I am so blessed that I do not EVER have to worry about my beloved granddaughter and weapons of death.

Thanks for tweeting Bob – I am still amazed that those parents can get out of bed every morning. I hope they haunt the congress until they reach the stage of no longer knowing they once had a child killed by a “2nd amendment massacre”
Bob, we need to think of a solution on the transfer of guns in a will or estate. My boys could care less, except to sell them if I don’t do it first, heaven forbid my hubby goes before me. Just thought about it and thought I’d throw it out there. My hubby bought his uncles guns from the estate, but it would be different in our situation. Probably take a lawyer, but those little things can hang up legislation.
Really, truthfully, Scalia literally needs to have his head examined. I remember that day, and thought it then. Just look into his dead eyes. Somebody get him outta there, into treatment, and I ain’t kidding.
Are you talking about Rosa Parks? I was looking at some of her quotes. My favorite.
Rosa Parks: “Memories of our lives, of our works and our deeds will continue in others.”

If only we could all just sit back and laugh at ‘em – if they weren’t so destructive and needed watching for other reasons – we could eat popcorn all day and all night!
Watching Lawrence’s show, and Rev. Al seems very tired, sad, and disillusioned tonight, while talking about the Scalia matter. I don’t blame him at all, but I’m worried about him!
Good. I will watch his show before the night’s over! (And, after I posted this, he “livened up” a little right before my eyes. Just didn’t expect his down tone, I guess, and felt a little bad thinking he was overwhelmed by it.)
It had to be a long day just sitting in court and not be able to make any noise and move. Then the speeches before, after, his show, etc. He seems to be okay. He never misses a day. He did have laryngitis the other day. I’m glad he was able to lose weight and keep it off.

I don’t tweet, follow half a dozen folks on it via bookmarks (@DalaiLama, PBO, FLOTUS) but somehow I love to hear when it is overloaded or on burn out, to me it means the energy is moving fast! Ha!
Hey TOD peeps!!! My mommy is the BEST MOM IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!She just gave me a calendar that has the next four years of PBO’ s presidency with pictures!!! Some of the pics I have never seen!! Can you believe that!!Pics that I haven’t seen?! I thought I saw them all!!! It is really really nice. I don’t know whether to take it to work and make the haters mad or keep it at home!!! I love it and I love my mommy and I love TOD!!!
LOL, that is nothing new. I’m use to everyone loving her!! I don’t think she’s ever met a stranger. However, I’m sorry ladies. She said she bought it from an African store here in Memphis.
Is the name of the publisher printed on the calendar? Website of the publisher? Name of the African store? Your Mama’s name and addy so I can send her a check??? Come on, help us out here…
I promise you it looks like some of these pics came straight off of TOD!! It has that black and white pic of PBO in the Beast that says “commander in chief” . I could have sworn there was pic here just like it!!
LadyTNT, what’s the store’s name? May be we can send the owners requests for them to print more Calendars. Many years ago in D.C., I bought a perpetual Egyptian Calendar which I love very much.
I’m not sure what the name of the store is and I recall her saying that they will be leaving Friday, so I better go before if I wanted another one. I think using the website above will probably be the best bet.
Lady T, did I tell you before I think you and I are sisters? Would you tell Mom that I haven’t received my calendar in the mail yet. I’ll just send you my address again in case there’s been some mix-up, and ask you to pass it along. Thanks, Sis.
See! Now we can share that position. I was the older twin, taken at the hospital and given to another home that had no children. Thank you for such a warm welcome back! So when do you think Mom will resend my calendar?
Lol, give it some time!! I have to break it to mom that she has a long lost daughter that she doesn’t remember giving birth to, or maybe she does and just never told me!!! Things that make you go hmmm…….!! But you should know that we are a close family and she will expect you to move down here ASAP. I know it’s repub country and all, but at least you won’t have to worry about snow!!!

well, republican and reagan appointee scalia has spent decades with incoherent ramblings while a supreme court justice which are easily destroyed by a high school debate team, but maybe he’s at least a great “family values” republican who has brought up some decent children into the world, right? oh wait…
how great that this vile scum has been able to shape the laws of america for decades. there’s no better example of “elections have consequences” as this turd of a human. notice how ronald reagan’s decisions are still creating havoc decades later, not to mention al his debt we’re trying to clean up still…
maybe the the scalia-spawn felt “entitled” to drive her 3 children around while drunk off her rocker? and to get them mcdonalds no less. all class all the time, those scalias.
Earlier someone share an article about one of Scalia’s sons who is a Catholic priest counseling in the ‘ex-gay’ ministry. The article shared was quite revealing of his biases but since I couldn’t locate it quickly I’m sharing this other snippet

Bob Woodward want attention. He’s like an old athlete who don’t know how to ride off into the sunset, he has to hang around and try to get someone to pay him some attention. Long as that man been around he knows when someone is threatening him and they are not. Woodward is a washed up journalists who want to recapture his fifteen minutes of fame. Woodward knows the audience he is running to will believe anything negative about POTUS, so maybe they will buy his book. Even if they are lies.
susanne what Woodward seem to have forgotten in his search for attention is that nothing can replace “Respect”. When people no longer respect you, all you have become is a washed up old or new joke.

Nina Simone ~ Mississippi Goddamn
From Songacts: A classically trained pianist, Nina Simone wrote hundreds of songs, but rarely put words to them. When she did, it was often to speak out against racism and injustice. She wrote this song in response to the murder of civil rights leader Medgar Evers in Mississippi on June 12, 1963, and also to the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, which killed 4 black girls on September 15, 1963. Simone said in I Got Thunder: Black Women Songwriters and Their Craft, “When I heard about the bombing of the church in which the four little black girls were killed in Alabama, I shut myself up in a room and that song happened. Medgar Evers had been recently slain in Mississippi. At first I tried to make myself a gun. I gathered some materials. I was going to take one of them out, and I didn’t care who it was. Then Andy, my husband at the time, said to me, ‘Nina, you can’t kill anyone. You are a musician. Do what you do.’ When I sat down the whole song happened. I never stopped writing until the thing was finished.”
———
“A show tune, but the show hasn’t been written for it yet.”
1964 protest song that was banned in several southern states.
——–
omg! thank you for this!! ms. simone existed on a completely different plane from most people. she was the definition of “transcendental.” i honestly feel the answers to all the world’s problems are contained in this performance from her. she’s giving us the message:
I have a couple of her CD’s. She was active in the civil rights movement wasn’t she? I didn’t understand it the first time I heard it, because I bought the CD’s in the ’90′s just because I liked some of her other songs. Then I think a movie came out about the three civil rights workers killed in Mississippi. They were on signs at the Supreme Court today. My favorite of her songs is it’s a “New Dawn, It’s a new Day”
John Coltrane did not need any lyrics to show the injustice, violence and oppression that African Americans were facing in Alabama. Coltrane wrote the song after hearing about the four girls who were killed in a church bombing in Birmingham. He reportedly used Martin Luther King’s cadence from the eulogy.
Dudette, I was 17 when I first listened to this Trane composition. Listening to it again brought tears remembering the FOUR LITTLE GIRLS killed in that TERRORIST BOMBING of a Birmingham Black Church, a month after the March on Washington. Antonin Scalia and his fellow white conservatives are oblivious to this history and this experience of suffering. For me, what is really sad, and indeed very tragic, is to see a Clarence Thomas, who should know better, joining the Scalias and the John Roberts, in forgetting the traumas and sacrifices that have brought us this far. Thank God we still have people like Rep. John Lewis who are a living testament of the sacrifices people made to get many of us this far. And, thank God we elected a President who refuses to forget.
If I remember correctly, I think they played this song by Trane at Malcolm X’s funeral. By the way, it was 48 year ago (Feb 21, 1965) when Malcolm X was assassinated. This was less a month after he had gone to Selma, Alabama to lend support to SNCC’s drive to register Blacks to vote in defiance of Alabama’s Jim Crow laws.
Thank you Dudette, for sharing this! John Coltrane was a musical genius. This song, without words, captures the depth of the pain many of us felt during that time.
I am rarely at a loss for words but it seems that recently it has become a daily occurance…..Clearly, as a white person, there is no way I am able to relate to how AAs are feeling tonight after a Supreme Court Justice did not even try to hide his smirking racism…..but…..as a person I am appalled and sickened……I disagree with those that feel that Chris Hayes was being flippant….on the contrary, Chris Hayes seems to take this very seriously, even if he is white. The VRA protects ALL Americans right to vote and section 5 is outdated…..it should include all 50 states as witnessed in this last election,… although that is not what is in front of SC…..this is about Republicans(who are basically white and racist) disinfranchising Democrats(who are AA, white, Latino, Asian, Indian, and many other ethnicities)…….all our rights are on the line….and that is very serious and dangerous.
In my opinion, you don’t have to share the characteristics of a person being targeted in order to have empathy. If that was the case, then many of the worlds struggles would not have prevailed. You just have to be morally human. And it appears that you are – very much so. What is happening to democracy and the basic tenets of society in this country is shameful and sad. But these ugly people have always been with us, throughout the ages. They’ve been defeated before – and they will be defeated again. They defeat themselves.
I’ve always thought Bob Dylan was more for the moment that was to his benefit – than for the cause – but we listened to him sing – and had no such thoughts – at that time.
I grew up in the South and Midwest during the civil rights years and their aftermath. It challenged everything about my world and changed my perception of life. Not a single day passes where the lessons learned are not effecting my perceptions, my outlook, or my aspirations. What is right now comes from their paths, what is wrong is from where any of us have lost the way. It’s on each of us to make it better for each other. Selflessness brings us into the better angels of our nature. This is my psalm of love to my heroes, the bravest of the brave.
The PBS series, EYES ON THE PRIZE, has become available again. To me, it is the single greatest and most relevent thing ever shown on television. Check it out and be heartened by the bittersweet struggle for the very soul of America.”
don’t know if you’ve read this–lots of great moments in that courtroom today!
‘ For a quarter-century, Antonin Scalia has been the reigning bully of the Supreme Court, but finally a couple of justices are willing to face him down.
As it happens, the two manning up to take on Nino the Terrible are women: the court’s newest members, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
~
Sotomayor allowed the lawyer for the Alabama county seeking to overturn the law to get just four sentences into his argument before interrupting him. “Assuming I accept your premise — and there’s some question about that — that some portions of the South have changed, your county pretty much hasn’t,” she charged. “Why would we vote in favor of a county whose record is the epitome of what caused the passage of this law to start with?” ‘
i remember a story about that film a while ago and heard zoe saldana. there was some uproar about it, so not sure, but maybe they changed actresses? regardless, whenever i see a performance by nina, and not sure why, but i’m reduced to a blubbering fool:
oh boy. that is quite a brave attempt. i’m a little nervous about that, but i hope the director and writer are amazing and they make a masterpiece. a nina simone quote:
“Jazz is a white term to define Black people. My music is Black classical music.- Nina Simone” FIERCE!!
Judge Scalia has forever sealed his legacy. He will be remembered as the doddering white supremacist fool who disgraced himself and the court with his hateful comment about voting rights.
I was listening to Randi Rhodes this afternoon and she was playing some rwnj being interviewed and he had the nerve to say that “race relations were fine until PBO was elected and ruined it “…….I could not believe what I was hearing and then to hear what that scumbag scalia said was just unbelievable.
jojo I guess this guy didn’t bother asking us blacks about how fine race relations were. Why ask us, our opinion doesn’t matter to something like him. If the master said race relations were fine, then they must have been fine.
Spot on Bill – history will not be kind to him – nor should it. The 8 years of the 44th President will reveal some interesting stories in the future – hopefully told by the 44th President.
Good lord, I was just thinking of Sweet Honey up thread when I saw the video sharing increasing! I was first introduced to these ladies right here in TODville a couple of years back by Isonprize. I ended up on YouTube afterwards, trying to find more of their songs.
Dudette, I love when you are in your zone. You just keep them coming…..
The first time I heard Ms. Nina Simone sing, “To Be Young, Gifted and Black”, I wanted to run somewhere, anywhere……(just get the hell out of Ga.) I did not feel like I belonged there any longer.
Thank you again .
just remember that we’re winning. it’s their last gasp attempts to hold onto the conch, and their silly little reindeer games look pathetic. they’re paying for all those times you that, so when i see one on a nina simone protest song, it’s quite hilarious. woodward weeps.

Alright, alright. I figured people would be looking for that one. But I can’t hear Sam Cooke sing that without thinking of that scene in the Malcolm X so, i’m switching it up a little…
I hope those of us who support PBO remember that the attacks on him, his family and his administration are going to even more intense, frequent and originating from multiple sidess.
There are 2 huge reasons why are so many of the people who a fixtures in the establishment (beltway types like woodward) trying to make themselves the story instead of the policy under discussion:
(a) many are either part of the 1% or dwell in those circles and therefore stand to loose money and prestige when {BO makes change that help the rest of us;
(b) others are hoping that they will make history when they are able to uncover something fishy/illegal that PBO and his Team have done.
May be some of you have forgotten the fact that from the moment PBO was re-elected many in MSM started speculating how PBO’s second term will be involved in “scandals” based on the track record of prior POTUS.
I remember discussing with my pals that this is a strange statement to make right after someone has just won a tough race that few gave him a chance to win.
Hence, these recent more intense personal attacks are making me suspect that they some hoping to be the ones that take PBO down.
Based on the eagerness of the status quo to destroy PBO’s Presidency, I trust those in Team Obama are aware and I hope that they can hanker down & prove them wrong
There will be more and more vile attacks on this White House. Where needed they should ignore them & their tantrums and let us oridnary folks go after them.
We have a lot of work to do and so many fights to win
Woodward seems to have stopped the RWNJs talking about the sequester – so they can talk about Woodward instead. The sequester is still there – people will be loosing their jobs – red states will be hurting – and the media will be talking about someone who had his 15 minutes 40 years ago
mr. librarian, sir, if you’re still around…i don’t have an account anywhere else to comment, but i do read at thepeoplesview too, and i must saw you nailed it with this comment:
“The poor whites who fought in the Civil War had more in common with the slaves than the slave owners. But the slave owners were smart. They said “Look, if the blacks become free, they’ll swamp you. No matter your condition, you’re better than any n*****.” They might have been dirt poor, but they were better than the chattel slaves owned by the rich. So they fought, to preserve their place in society.
Then, when the war was over and they lost, they still kept the idea that their skin color made them better than the freed slaves. And the elite, who were still elite despite being expropriated of their “property”, knew that if they could keep the wedge driven between the two groups who had more in common economically, then they could maintain power. So the myth of white superiority was perpetuated, and easily so; it was the dominant ideology of Euro-American civilization. Thus, when the great unwashed crashed upon our shores in the 19th and early 20th centuries, they, too, were indoctrinated into that ideology. It was again to keep natural allies separated, divided, at each others’ throats, so that those in power could sleep easily at night.
Our new century promises to upend all that. The myth of white superiority has frayed to dissolution; and the country isn’t even all that white anymore. We’re stabbing into the heart of their cherished, sustaining myths, what they tell themselves to assure themselves that, whatever the paucity of their conditions, they’re still “better” than us. That’s what we’re stealing from them.”
wisconsin teabagger scott walker was caught on video last year saying their strategy is to “divide and conquer” liberal support. for decades we’ve been hearing about the lee atwater/rove “wedge issues.” what’s funny though is that they don’t realize all the changes happening in society right before their eyes, and they just keep doubling-down on the same strategies without ever thinking about the overall societal context and how they might need adjustments. it shows how truly stupid republicans are. all the better for us, and especially with geniuses such as the obamas leading the way. forward!!

Sometimes I forget that the Voting Rights Act was passed less than 50 years ago. It seem a lot longer to me. I have heard about the desire of RWNJs to not extend this act for probably 20 years. Seems like that day is here. I don’t begin to know what the Court will do. However, I do believe that patriotic Americans will take to the streets if the Court does not uphold ALL of the Voting Rights Act – at least I certainly hope so. I hope people realize that America will continue to be assaulted by these RWNJs unless we stand up to them.
Women as well are fighting for our rights. Of course, if you’re black and a woman you’ve got a couple of battles going on. States have chipped away at Roe v Wade to the extent that women must travel 100′s of miles to obtain a legal abortion. RWNJs don’t want women to have access to birth control. We fought these battles before. If nothing else we should realize that we must be ever vigilant because these struggles continue.
Have you ever heard of Harry Moore? No. Well let Sweet Honey in the Rock tell you about the man who died because he was so good at registering black folks to vote in the State of Florida.
I saw this Alycee – also saw a video awhile ago of Morgan Freeman discussing the racism/segregation in the town. Just so sad & then there is the Supreme Court!
Nina Simone was FIERCE. I just blasted this at top volume after reading/hearing about Scalia’s beyond ignorant comments. Helped channel the anger I’m feeling today. And I didn’t think I could be any angrier than the rage I felt on the day that our illustrious Prez produced the long form of his birth certificate, but I am. I think Deaniac/Spandan is right in his latest piece up on the People’s View. If Section 5 of VRA gets struck down by these haters masquerading as Supreme Court justices, I’m going to be at the front of that uprising it’s going to unleash. TRUST!
Reading all the comments tonight – what I love about TOD – unless someone says who they are, where they are from – we are simply a group of people – around the world – who support President Obama – there is no black/white, male/female, gay/heterosexual, young/old – or any other breakdowns.
When the world community is like the TOD community – we will know – life will be very good.
I am more convince than ever that these Supreme Court Judges should not be able to remain on the bench till one decides to retire or they die. Can the law or rule be change, when they get to the point of something like Scalia, it is time to think about making that change.
There is mounting evidence that this Pope engaged in a major cover-up of predator priests…i can’t help but think that his resignation was strategic…only time will tell…
it is time for the Church to not only address the above issue…but also the issue of Birth Control…esp when so many of the Faithful use birth control,,,and the issue of women priests…
I love the way Obama admin is yanking the chains of utterly useless bw media clowns like woodward, ed henry and other such two-bit hacks.— (@amk4obama) February 28, 2013
Ever since they took control of the House of Representatives in 2011, Republicans have made journeys to the fiscal brink as commonplace as summertime visits to the beach or the ballpark. The country has been put through a series of destructive showdowns over budget issues we once resolved through the normal give-and-take of negotiations. . .
Here is a way out of permanent crisis: President Obama should demand the repeal of all artificial deadlines and tell both houses of Congress that he won’t make further proposals until each actually passes a replacement to the sequester — not a gimmick or something that looks like an alternative, but the real thing. With everyone on the record, normal discussions could begin, and Washington would no longer look like the set of a horror movie in which a new catastrophe lurks around every corner. . .
. . . What Obama can do is expose the cause of this madness, which is the dysfunction of the Republican Party. Journalists don’t like saying this because it sounds partisan. But the truth is the truth, whether it sounds partisan or not. . .
And a staunch conservative has succinctly explained why this problem really is a Republican problem. In an admirably candid interview Monday with Ezra Klein on MSNBC, Ben Domenech, a conservative blogger, said the new tea party Republicans in the House don’t want their leadership to sit down with Obama to talk because “they have their doubts about the ability of Republicans to negotiate any better situation.” Read that carefully: We are in this mess because Republicans don’t trust their leaders to bargain. Domenech added that many conservatives “don’t buy this distinction between smart cuts and dumb cuts,” a distinction that is not “all that critical.” This is astonishing: Government is bad, so all cuts are more or less the same. And you wonder why we have a crisis?
. . .
The nation is exhausted with fake crises that voters thought they ended with their verdict in the last election. Those responsible for the Washington horror show should be held accountable. And only one party is using shutdowns, cliffs and debt ceilings as routine political weapons.
Sometimes, in a Supreme Court argument, a single phrase can speak volumes. Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, the one member of the Court who bore the most watching because the other eight seemed clearly to divide evenly, used the phrase “trusteeship of the United States government” as a shorthand way to describe how he views the regime set up by the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Of course, he meant it as a denunciation.
If Kennedy believes that there is no way to justify any longer that kind of oversight of nine states that have to do the most to obey the 1965 law, that law may well be doomed. But it also was Kennedy who left the impression that he might be willing to go along with a potential way to short-circuit the case of Shelby County v. Holder, and allow the law to survive for some time more.
It seems to me there is a serious problem with Justice Scalia. He appears to be overriding the constitution as shown here by Josh Marshall http://editors.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2013/02/good_point.php?ref=fpblg
1. Justice Scalia today regarding the voting rights act: “This is not the kind of question you can leave to Congress.”
2. The United States Constitution, Amendment XV: “SECTION 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. SECTION 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”
Does he see his role as having a political outcome, rather than a judicial outcome? Can a Justice of the Supreme court be impeached? Is there any way for them to go other than resignation or death?

Wow, Woodward walked into a big pile of crap, and it continue to get larger and larger. He refuse to get off the runaway train.
Clap. Clap. Clap. That as simply brilliant.
I missed the news today, so what happened with Bob Woodward today
Forgot: ????
Who is Bob Woodward, anyway?
Woodward and Bernstein were reporters for a Washington newspaper. They broke the story and wrote the book on Nixon and the Watergate break in.
Thank you,proud.
Oh wow, I thought you just were being snarky!
Lol!
Excellent question vl. Shows how irrelevant this bw gossip columnist has become.
It does indeed – living forever on a 1970s apartment building
A watergate hero who has now completely lost his marbles! His loved ones, including his media enablers, should have urged him to quit while he was still ahead. He is coming across as a very deluded person in need of medical intervention.
It isn’t easy being green. Or is it?
For today, it’s just fine!
A special day?
Little bit of protest solidarity I picked up from Tally. Special EFX artists for the movie Life of Pi got the shaft.
http://bit.ly/13nr9Av
I’m all about artists getting their due, so I jumped on the bandwagon for a short spell. I’ll be back to normal tomorrow evening.
I caught that on another thread. Hadn’t heard about it. Where did you get the green square? I turned my Home page orange in support of a dog today. Wednesday was a big day for protests.
Stole it from Tally’s twitter profile.
Oh, ok!
I saw one on my FB page this morning.
really must be hard keeping up–birthcert, then transcripts, yada yada, hagel, immigrants. now this scalia thing, and then what? vote yes to end the sequester? the rethug heads are spinning and exploding at the same time!
I so love her. Thank goodness PBO and Sotomayor found each other.
I agree totally, Meta! No wonder both the left and the right were attacking her. She is so alert and not ready to listen to BS!
Sho nuff! Sonia for Chief Justice!!!
thank goodness for Justice Sotomayor
You sure nailed it, Japa!
Don’t wish him on my Catholic church! We have enough problems!
Scalia’s mind is GONE.
Sorry, job:) His mind IS gone, to be sure…..I’d wish just about anything right now to get his sorry, racist ass out of that cushy seat he sits in. He has no damn business being there.
He is Catholic though, sorry.
Oh, that’s right, let’s watch for the NYT and Wash. Post letters tomorrow. He’s a ghastly excuse for a human being. Goodnight!
G’Night. 😌
DF, I am not Catholic, but I have family members who are. I love them so much that I would not want them to have this evil man as their spiritual leader. It would cause them too much pain.
I don’t get it?
It’s okay, Carol. Obscure reference. It was a nutty free association thing that popped into my head when I read that John Miller tweet above.
Bernice was a nutcase on the show Designing Women who used to torment poor Anthony with silliness like this song.
Oh, never watched the how. Thought it must have some tie in.
I use to like that show, Designing Women and that woman singing was just as nutty as nutty can be. She also used to play Alice on the show Bewitched
Yep, I loved both shows. Loved her in both of them.
Congrats on first Pamela. I am just back from time with the grandbabe – almost 6 months old – and I am listening to this
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/02/27/17119737-jesse-was-the-love-of-my-life
Jesse was the love of my life. I am glad those who support guns have to listen to this – I so wish it would give them nightmares – but they care not. I am so blessed that I do not EVER have to worry about my beloved granddaughter and weapons of death.
I love Al Franken – caring, lovely man
That video about Jesse just is so gut wrenching …
I saw this on the news – it made me so sad.
Do you know why some were wearing lei’s in the march to Selma the second time?
Sorry, posted to wrong post. Wrong subject.
oh, well–good subject!
due to hawaii senator inouye.
http://www.allhawaiinews.com/2012/01/why-did-rev-martin-luther-king-jr-wear.html
Was he part of the march? I didn’t know. Thanks Suzanne.
eek. sorry, i said inouye, but it was senator danny akaka.
Thanks! I was going to Wiki to get some history, but I’m still catching up on other things.
http://www.thisweeknews.com/content/stories/newalbany/news/2013/01/22/columbus-jewish-day-school-students-honor-king-by-wearing-leis.html
Thanks. I read Suzanne’s link about lei. We are all connected.
I heard the rethugs left the hearing before the victims families testified and were very rude to the doctor testifying.
Congrats Pamela!!!
Chips, thank you dearest one!!
#TrustBarack ….. you’re looking at why in that picture
Hysterical!
Honestly Jacqueline, I nearly wept, the RWNJ retweeted it!!!!
If only we could all just sit back and laugh at ‘em – if they weren’t so destructive and needed watching for other reasons – we could eat popcorn all day and all night!
DO you know the identity of “Pour…”? They a a blue dot next to their twitter name.
I visited his/her profile and followed the link to his/her rules (of engagement). I really liked them.
I’ve been following pourme… for a while. Never disappoints.
http://pourmecoffee.tumblr.com/fineprint
That’s what I stumbled on earlier AND really, really appreciated. A nice way to say ‘If you don’t like my stuff, go away!.’
Watching Lawrence’s show, and Rev. Al seems very tired, sad, and disillusioned tonight, while talking about the Scalia matter. I don’t blame him at all, but I’m worried about him!
i did not find him so..i found him resigned to fight…if you watch him on his show…he was very firey and determined….
Well, who wasn’t?
Woodward is getting HAMMERED on twitter. LOLz.
Love the new look Nerdy.
I don’t know about anybody else, but Twitter is running pretty slow for me. Between Woodward and Scalia, the Twitterverse is being overloaded.
obummer’s fault, naturally.
I don’t tweet, follow half a dozen folks on it via bookmarks (@DalaiLama, PBO, FLOTUS) but somehow I love to hear when it is overloaded or on burn out, to me it means the energy is moving fast! Ha!
Japa I am sure Twitter is running slow for you because you’ve been on fire since you started twitting.
Want to see why we need the VRA kept in tact????? One word. ARIZONA!
http://www.azcentral.com/video/#/News/Arizona+elections+bill+on+Feds%27+radar/40280768001/35150280001/2193888682001
white house to woodward: “you ARE going to pay a lot for that muffler!” woodward: “mommy?”
LOL!
I am having trouble keeping my fingers away from a certain word.
Coolness! I love your mommy too! Now where can I get one of them there calendars!
ditto
LOL, that is nothing new. I’m use to everyone loving her!! I don’t think she’s ever met a stranger. However, I’m sorry ladies. She said she bought it from an African store here in Memphis.
Is the name of the publisher printed on the calendar? Website of the publisher? Name of the African store? Your Mama’s name and addy so I can send her a check??? Come on, help us out here…
BTW, isn’t it neat having a fantastic Mom?
Alycee, you’re in luck lady!!! It says that it’s published by Mark Publishing and the website is http://www.obama4moreyearscalendar.com
Yep, it’s great having a fantastic mom!! It’s also hard to live up to those standards, but I will be half the woman she is one day!!!!
THANK YOU! Give your fantastic Mom a big hug from me!
No problem, will do!!
Zazzle. You can make your own and start with any month. It’ll cost you though. Bribe Mommy!
Lady T, did I tell you before I think you and I are sisters? Would you tell Mom that I haven’t received my calendar in the mail yet. I’ll just send you my address again in case there’s been some mix-up, and ask you to pass it along. Thanks, Sis.
LOL, cool!!! Welcome to the family!!! I’m tired of being the oldest sibling anyway, lol!!!
Weighing things here …..
+moving – repub country +calendar +close family -/+ snow ASAP +calendar
….seems like I do need some time to consider the equation more thoroughly.
You think long, you think wrong!! Does it make it better that the city is blue and it’s the state that’s red?
Well played!
Hello, my dear!
[Can I whisper that I prefer the real, unique, beautiful and distinctive you on twitter to the green square? My aversion is cemented by the fact that when I followed the original link to find out about the green I saw a name I had reservations about who apparently works for Breitbart's organization - another name with which I'm uncomfortable. I admit I left before discovering anything more tho.]
Ack! Didn’t know about that Stranahan person… I was just showing solidarity with the FX artists and didn’t investigate that posting site. I don’t have facebook otherwise would’ve just linked to Bruce’s FB page. I’ve changed the link to a different article. Planning to return to my quirky nerdy self tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
well, republican and reagan appointee scalia has spent decades with incoherent ramblings while a supreme court justice which are easily destroyed by a high school debate team, but maybe he’s at least a great “family values” republican who has brought up some decent children into the world, right? oh wait…
“The 45-year-old daughter of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was arrested Monday night on drunk driving and child endangerment raps.”
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/crime/drunk-driving-bust-scalia-kin
how great that this vile scum has been able to shape the laws of america for decades. there’s no better example of “elections have consequences” as this turd of a human. notice how ronald reagan’s decisions are still creating havoc decades later, not to mention al his debt we’re trying to clean up still…
A grown woman acting like a damn teenager. Can you guess who her father is?
maybe the the scalia-spawn felt “entitled” to drive her 3 children around while drunk off her rocker? and to get them mcdonalds no less. all class all the time, those scalias.
No excuse for putting your kids in danger, but think about this, if you were Scalia’s daughter wouldn’t you drink too
Earlier someone share an article about one of Scalia’s sons who is a Catholic priest counseling in the ‘ex-gay’ ministry. The article shared was quite revealing of his biases but since I couldn’t locate it quickly I’m sharing this other snippet
http://www.truthwinsout.org/news/2012/12/32425/
What is the purpose of this bullsh*t from that Obama hater.
President Obama is President Obama, he don’t have to be Reagen or Nixon. And he for sure won’t be that loser GW Bush.
Even if they are lies.
you’re so right, anniebella. look at all the attention he’s gotten here, and we don’t even take him seriously.
susanne what Woodward seem to have forgotten in his search for attention is that nothing can replace “Respect”. When people no longer respect you, all you have become is a washed up old or new joke.
Going to end the night with this….sleep well TOD.
Good night LP
I was just about to post this – thanks!
Obama Derangement Syndrome apparently brings about mental decline much quicker than we first thought….
David Plouffe, Perfection gained once is rarely repeated. You are so right specially when you know you are telling lies.
” Perfection gained once is rarely repeated.”
Absolutely delicious! Kudos to David Plouffe.
When Woodward is proven to be a liar by all, it will be ashame to see what some will do for their fame or attention. Some know that is what he is doing already. Of course he will run to the Obama haters who don’t give a dam if he is lying.
Forgive the salty language – sometimes being a potty mouth is warranted.
I couldn’t agree more! She was a cut above!
I am black and I agree.
So do I. This brings back memories of my parents buying a poll tax to vote.
so true, kathryn. women’s right to vote is also a tenuous thing. we must protect the civil rights of all people, or they will surely be chipped away.
I agree with all of you. VRA for all 50 states and all 300M people – well, at least those of voting age!

MUST READ> AND PASS ALONG
YESSS!!! perfect.
I’ve always thought Bob Dylan was more for the moment that was to his benefit – than for the cause – but we listened to him sing – and had no such thoughts – at that time.
The Staple Singers ~ Freedom Highway
From the Youtube poster of this video:
“Wrestling for the soul of America.

They were so cool! Great to see it happen.
It looks like that loud-mouthed Scalia is gonna get it broken off in his ‘badungees’. PBO’s appointments are gonna pay big dividends.
Re: Nina Simone. Am I mistaken in hearing on Oscar night that the delicious Kerri Washington is playing her in an upcoming biopic?
i remember a story about that film a while ago and heard zoe saldana. there was some uproar about it, so not sure, but maybe they changed actresses? regardless, whenever i see a performance by nina, and not sure why, but i’m reduced to a blubbering fool:
No, you’re right, it was Zoe Saldana! She said she’d finished work on it.
oh boy. that is quite a brave attempt. i’m a little nervous about that, but i hope the director and writer are amazing and they make a masterpiece. a nina simone quote:
“Jazz is a white term to define Black people. My music is Black classical music.- Nina Simone” FIERCE!!
There’s more than a little bit of Bach in her piano solo.
… classically trained
Judge Scalia has forever sealed his legacy. He will be remembered as the doddering white supremacist fool who disgraced himself and the court with his hateful comment about voting rights.
Yes! Please tweet that! It’s soooo true!
VC, Dudette has that gift.
She not only knows what you are thinking……she knows what you are feeling!
Timing is impeccable, amazing!
I’m sick and tired of seeing all these silly anti-Obama ads when I click on a youTube video. It spoils my viewing/listening experience.
just remember that we’re winning. it’s their last gasp attempts to hold onto the conch, and their silly little reindeer games look pathetic. they’re paying for all those times you that, so when i see one on a nina simone protest song, it’s quite hilarious. woodward weeps.
I haven’t seen any of those. That’s terrible.
Thanks LDS!
Nina gets the juices pumping, doesn’t she?
Yes!
“FIERCE”
Dudette (aka music genius) how about “Change is Gonna Come” ?
Alright, alright. I figured people would be looking for that one. But I can’t hear Sam Cooke sing that without thinking of that scene in the Malcolm X so, i’m switching it up a little…
thanks a lot
Who am I kidding? Nobody does that song as well as Sam… I surrender!
yes, sam is that song. there have been some great versions paying homage to mr. cooke, such as Baby Huey:
I hope those of us who support PBO remember that the attacks on him, his family and his administration are going to even more intense, frequent and originating from multiple sidess.
There are 2 huge reasons why are so many of the people who a fixtures in the establishment (beltway types like woodward) trying to make themselves the story instead of the policy under discussion:
(a) many are either part of the 1% or dwell in those circles and therefore stand to loose money and prestige when {BO makes change that help the rest of us;
(b) others are hoping that they will make history when they are able to uncover something fishy/illegal that PBO and his Team have done.
That’s what we’re stealing from them.”
wisconsin teabagger scott walker was caught on video last year saying their strategy is to “divide and conquer” liberal support. for decades we’ve been hearing about the lee atwater/rove “wedge issues.” what’s funny though is that they don’t realize all the changes happening in society right before their eyes, and they just keep doubling-down on the same strategies without ever thinking about the overall societal context and how they might need adjustments. it shows how truly stupid republicans are. all the better for us, and especially with geniuses such as the obamas leading the way. forward!!
Thanks 4MF44! I might use that comment in a new piece I’m thinking about.
Thanks for the article. I read it and immediately tweeted it out – very good and very on-point
Ok, it’s 10 pm on the Best Coast, and I’m turning into a pumpkin. Night all.
Goodnight Pumpkin!
Can I say the word?
It may work out that we have even better voting access for all States.
Goodness gracious me, it’s after 1 am!!! Lost track of time -’Bye!
stolen from a bj’er.
Scalia rumored to be Opus Dei – wouldn’t surprise me at all.
and Santorum I think I heard.
I have heard that too. Santorum is nuts, but may be Opus Dei too.
Totally off-topic, but cracked me up!!
The Impressions – Keep on Pushing
Have you ever heard of Harry Moore? No. Well let Sweet Honey in the Rock tell you about the man who died because he was so good at registering black folks to vote in the State of Florida.
Good night friends ….
Yes We Can
Hey Everybody, we have 4More Years of President Barack Husein Obama. Let’s get it on…
I saw this Alycee – also saw a video awhile ago of Morgan Freeman discussing the racism/segregation in the town.
TRUST!
yes! i couldn’t decide between this one and the one i linked above, “Ain’t Got No…I’ve Got Life.” now we have both here. perfect! TRUST, indeed!!!
Great statement 99ts. I hope I live long enough to see that.
I am more convince than ever that these Supreme Court Judges should not be able to remain on the bench till one decides to retire or they die. Can the law or rule be change, when they get to the point of something like Scalia, it is time to think about making that change.
this catholic hopes the church digs deep and confronts the issue of child abuse and cover-up.
church needed to have done this already because too many kids and their families have been permanently hurt and for so long.
THISSSSSSSSSSS!….
For those who think that racism is dead…or who believes that voter suppression does not exist…i give you Justice Scalia,
Ever since they took control of the House of Representatives in 2011, Republicans have made journeys to the fiscal brink as commonplace as summertime visits to the beach or the ballpark.
And only one party is using shutdowns, cliffs and debt ceilings as routine political weapons.

http://www.scotusblog.com/2013/02/argument-recap-voting-law-in-peril-maybe/#more-160155
Sometimes, in a Supreme Court argument, a single phrase can speak volumes.
He appears to be overriding the constitution as shown here by Josh Marshall
http://editors.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2013/02/good_point.php?ref=fpblg
Morning!
