Completely agree about the recommended read by Ezra Klein. It shows just how insane the republicans have become with their ‘Obama Derangement Syndrome’ They are so far down the freaking rabbit hole, they have no idea where the road to sanity is.
Now, if we only had a competent media that is willing to do its due diligence to the masses and a public that is willing to get up and pay attention to what’s happening in government, we’d be a-ok.
This was stupid! Some Liberal Super PAC attacked McConells wife ethnicity.
Now come on, the Liberals are supposed to be the party of inclusion and fairness? (some question if it was a Liberal Super PAC)…
If Proven, That’s not right, and knowing the seasoned veteran that McConell is, he is already raising money off of this and makes it much harder for Ashley Judd.
#Stupid
I am highly suspicious of this “liberal” group, which on further reading appears to be a Tea Party -loving organization that wants to primary McConnell. From what I read, many Democrats do not want to be associated with this group because it is misrepresenting itself and spreading misinformation about Democrats.
Exactly. Here is an example of that kind of ” Dem-loving Democrat.” I’m just posting a link to this person’s Twitter so that folks can see how some people call themselves “Democrats” but they would fit in with the most vile elements of the Right-wing party….
Well, you know I’m always the odd girl out. I’m not thinking about Mitch McConnell or his wife. We have been suffering the onslaught of Republican racist nastiness for six years. They’ve called my president everything from a skinny, ghetto crackhead to a tar baby and maligned my first lady. I’ve been praying for some batshit crazy Democrats. If you ask me, it’s about time. They can just apologize like the Republicans do. Next!
The GOP have been playing victim since Palin showed them how to do it. The President and his family have had to face much worse for 5 years – but he just gets on with his job. McConnell should shut up and do some work.
Even with this it seems there is one rule for republicans (just ignore the racism) and one for the democrats (terrible, terrible they should apologize 1000 times).
Funny about that – NO-ONE in the GOP called out the birthers – they laughed and encouraged them. Palin actively encouraged racism by her words and actions – and the right wing pundits applauded.
This group is in no way shape or form associated with Ashley Judd, who herself spoke out condemning the attacks. That’s the difference between DEMS & GOP. If it were the other way around, the GOP would justify, rationalize or simply ignore. How many times PBO and FLOTUS have been attacked for their race/ethnicity by Republican groups and elected officials, yet you hear nothing from people like McConnell.
I sent McConnell office a e-mail and told him the exact same thing hopefruit2. I told him that when Republicans have made racists comments about the President and First Lady, I don’t recall any Republican leader stepping forward and condemning the comments. Certainly not you Senator McConnell, why is that? Racism is not good weither it comes from a Democrat or Republican or Tea Party Republican.
Up and at ‘em all you O’s!! It’s a great getting up day again in TODdy town again, fer sho’!! Now time for our early morning stretch to get the juices flowing and the energy to face the morning talk shows, face the sequester, and whatever else ails you politically.
All together now:
Their is some discussion about not having a long term debt problem in America.
If things stay the same, then in 35 years, SS will only be paying 80 cents for every dollar you put in, Medicare looses it’s solvency in about 13-16 years, and Medicaid is a State budget nightmare(should be federalized!
So, while I agree that the debt/deficit is being manipulated by the Republicans and the Beltway, to say we don’t have a problem is not true.
Don’t flame me, I am just making an observation fact based.
I think that was also part of why in the 80′s Reagan did the Immigration reform, it was to get all of the people not citizens yet and not paying into SS or taxes. That made SS solvent again. I am not too sure where I read that, but I lived through that change.
I have yet to see a government anywhere in the world that budgets more than 2-4 years ahead. No-one knows at this stage what will be the situation with SS and medicare in the future & any estimates I would take with a grain of salt. In my world the equivalent of SS is means tested – people are now forced through employment to save for their retirement & the boomers will be the first generation where a reasonable % will not be dependent on SS in retirement. Who knows what future US governments will do? They may means test SS – they may increase the tax rate to 1950 levels – but it won’t be finalized in this or the next administration.
To quote Pierce – people got no jobs, people got no money – that is the problem today – not long term expenditure.
Well no… We were all told at a very young age that once the baby Boomers came of age, it would really pressure the social programs.
And it has… Healthcare spending in the US is 17x more than any other country per capita.
It is what it is.
I think that reason why PBO stresses a balanced approach to deficit reduction…and tries to get a long term plan in the works is so we do not have to keep talking about the deficit….so that we can look forward to investments/the GOP does not want to let go of the deficit talk because then they have would have no reason to NOT talk about JOBS…investment….etc….
and by the way…the GOP is not really interested in deficit reduction…they want to destroy…the GOV of the people and replace it with a GOV for the wealthy…..all they have done shows this…
they can no longer win national elections…so gerrymandering the electoral college…and various other methods of voter suppression is the works….with the Supreme Court attempting to gut the Voting Rights Act…..
PBO mentioned a group of GOP members whom he may be able to work with….what an intriguing notion this is….i look forward to hearing more about this group…
The way to solve the debt is to have more people employed at higher paying jobs, and more of those people at the top paying the taxes they now currently bypass – even though they use much more of the public goods (roads, bridges, rail lines, police to keep the law, courts and trade organizations to protect their intellectual and physical property, human resources educated at public schools). If those rich people who get 380 times more income than the rest of the 99% of the country, and hold 40% of the country’s wealth, would pay their fair share – then we would not have a debt problem. As it is, 99% of the public is paying the share of the top 1%, but not reaping the profits in kind from their labor via a secure and sustained social safety net.
More income into the federal coffers means more sustainable safety net. Less income (through higher unemployment or tax loopholes that only a few are able to take advantage of) puts that safety net at risk.
yes, that’s what I thought when I first saw it yesterday. Even though the link is there, I guess cause his followers know him, and with no quotation marks, it’s easy to think it’s his child.
Just Because the World Didn’t End Doesn’t Mean That Sequestration Isn’t Scary
BY JONATHAN COHN
—————————-
This isn’t speculation. It happened once already—in December, the last time sequestration cuts were imminent. The economy suddenly slowed late last year, according to government estimates, and the single biggest reason was a sudden contraction of defense spending. The reason those expenditures fell was that the Pentagon, anticipating cuts, began slowing down purchases and other expenditures. You can bet they’ll be doing the same thing now. So will the people who run Head Start programs or public schools heavily dependent on federal funds. So will the people who provide business or contract services to a wide variety of agencies. The effects of sequestration may not be immediately visible to Rush Limbaugh or to the majority of Americans, but in some ways that makes them even more dangerous.
The right wing and their zombie followers don’t even understand what role the government plays in their lives. They demonize first responders. They badmouth teachers. They screech for the government to stay out of their Medicare… So, it only makes sense that they would be blase about budget cuts that will impact their red states more than any other state, and it also makes sense that they will blame the President and Democrats once they feel the impact of those cuts. They’re programmed to do so.
Nothing surprises me when it comes to these jackals. or as PBO puts it “Carnival Barkers. The GOP/ Tea suckers are rebranded as far as I’m concerned. They are a traveling side show.
Reagan wouldn’t recognize these snake oil sales people.
Made a not so good discovery while perusing Facebook earlier today. Too bad stuff you write on the walls of the innertubes can’t be copyrighted. Baring that, too bad folks don’t give credit, where credit is due.
I mean word for word. Really???? Word for word, not even a comma relocation, not a merging of two sentences? Anything to make it more yours than mine???? Just a copy and a paste and no mention where it came from? Then to have it shared, cause it was worthy of more eyeballs. If you’re reading this, please don’t plagerize……smh
OK, now it’s off my chest. Sorry TODsters had to do that here.
Yesterday I was at an all day Progressive Summit in PA and there was a discussion of what Dems have to do to win back the US House, not to mention our state houses. In 2006, D candidates won in Republican leaning areas by presenting themselves as conservative, i.e., Blue Dogs. These Dems then became a drag to getting anything done in House and had to be cajoled and compromised with at every turn. The thought was that with the Republican brand becoming more and more toxic, Democrats could actually run and win on a progressive platform. They cited the three recently elected state senators who won in Red districts on progressive platforms, while running against far right Rs. Even highly partisan issues like abortion can be won if the approach is a common sense one. Never use the words, “pro-choice.” Talk in terms of difficult decisions for the woman who finds herself pregnant and emphasize that such a decision shouldn’t be left in the hands of politicians. In Pa, a D state senator actually won his seat in an R district by running on abortion because his opponent was so extreme he turned women off. Progressive ideas, if presented in well-thought-out language and appeals to common sense ,can be very appealing and we don’t have to resort to electing Republican-lite Dems. It would be a great liberation if progressive ideas, which poll very well, could come out of the closet and, for once, true Progressives could be elected outside of the blue states. I hope we get a presidential style campaign for the US House and Senate next year. I will work as hard as I can and donate as much as I can to make that happen. We’ve worked ourselves silly for two presidential campaigns and we can’t let all of that effort go to waste with a unpatriotic and destructive US House. Right now R governors are decimating our state economies and destroying our right to vote. These governors have to go. We need a Progressive revolution in 2014.
The Problem is gerrmandeted districts and a sprinkle of racism in those districts. Thru don’t care about policy, they only care about one upping the Black guy in the WH.
Makes them feel better, and the democrats running in those districts, tend to run away from the President instead of defending him.
It is what it is.
Well, Jovie, I’m not giving up and a lot of people vote for the person actually on the ballot in mid-terms. We only have to get 17 seats and I’m not going to start out thinking that’s impossible if enough effort, money and intensity are directed to the effort. Plus I never underestimate the potential of Republican candidates to shoot themselves in the foot with ideas so repellent that they turn people off.
PF, From what I understand there are branches of the DSCC and the DCCC that will be working in PA, but I would work for the candidates that declare themselves in your own district. They will need your time and money.
Democrats need to figure out how to play dirty like the Republicans do. Find an Independent who leans Democratic but will carry the Republican message for the sake of being elected. That’s what they do. Gotta fight fire with fire. How many Democrats do we have in office, who are really Republicans?
I agree, global, the range of things our Dem candidates can talk about is endless. I only cite abortion because it was surprisingly a winning issue for the Dem in a red area BECAUSE the R candidate was so extreme. If the R candidate is spouting pure ugly, that presents a opportunity for winning by being sane and reasonable. Of course, this won’t work in a blood red area, but in marginal, leaning R districts, it can work. It also takes lots of hard work, good timing, and enough money to take advantage of opportunities on the Dem’s part. That’s where we come in. All we need is 17 seats.
by the way, I agree very strongly with your assessment that Dems need to run on progressive issues.
I also like the way you say the candidates handled the abortion issue. I just did not want to add to it because you have covered it very well & I did not want to “dilute” it
I am making an observation as to why our candidates lose in red states.
It’s a fact, they fun away from the President, our grassroots see this and don’t vote at all.
This is what happened in 2010.
It’s a fact!
You’re discounting one important calculus…for many, many whites the Republican party is the “white party” and the Democratic Party is the “minority party”. It’s that simple.
I heard a snippet of Tom Hartmann in the car the other day, caught the tail end of all of it…but in essence he said that their was a poll done…like a blind study, where they just laid out the ideas of progressives and conservatives and there was not one mention of party ideology in the poll…just laying out the ideas and seeing where most people agreed and disagreed. If you stripped all mention of party affiliation and worded the questions very “vanilla”…the results were that the majority in this poll favored progressive ideas by a majority.
I found that very telling. If you took the toxicity away and gave people a choice, they choose the progressive solution. Heartening to hear…and I kind of had a feeling that would happen…Dems don’t sound like the nut cases here…..
That is a very interesting story about the candidate who used his abortion views to good effect in a red district. So many of the battles are between buzzwords and slogans. I don’t use the expressions ‘pro-choice’ and ‘pro-life.’ I think it was a big mistake to cede the latter to the anti abortion crowd. I say I’m pro access to safe abortions, as opposed to those who are anti access to safe abortions.
Excellent post. I believe a candidate who is honest and forthright about their progressive views can win. “Maybe you don’t agree with what I say, but you can trust me to be honest with you” is a good strategy. For 2014, we have to focus like laser-beams on winnable seats, and we have to pay attention to state level races as well so we don’t get these far right legislatures in states that go blue in presidential years. I hope that after 2012 those Obama voters who stayed home in 2010 have learned that they can’t sit out the non-presidential years. I trust OFA, sort of trust the DCCC, to use their analytical skills to figure out our best strategies. But we all have to be the foot soldiers just as in 2012.
Just a thought. I am in one of those areas Jovie is talking about where Dems ran from the President but this time I am talking about in 2012. As an OFA volunteer it created a kind of revulsion towards those Dem candidates. Though I worked in 2010 for all Dem candidates and we made a big difference, I am struggling now in anticipation of 2014. I want to support candidates because I think they are trustworthy (not perfect or uncompromising just trustworthy as I feel the President is). Anyway, I was thinking that AUTHENTICITY and INTEGRITY are what I am looking for now. I feel its a winning combo for Dems since the GOP has gone so far in the direction of having to dissemble to get elected or to gerrymander so that they can exclude moderate voters. Dem candidates in our area have to consider the opinions of the GOP voters because they are at least equal if not higher in percentage to Dems. That can be a good thing because the respect, empower and include mechanism is a necessity. The GOP has forgotten how important that is because their hubris driven agenda designed by their recent leaders takes them away from that. In the end I think the means will determine the end and everyone will be looking for those that refuse to misrepresent or misdirect. If Democrats embrace who they truly are and become smarter at not falling into semantic traps at the same time (as has been mentioned above), I think it could work.
My belief is that only good can overcome evil. Only honesty can overcome deception.
Amen, Catrst. If a Dem in your area is running for Congress you should have many opportunities to meet that person at Democratic meetings or dinners. Take some time to express your views about supporting the president and certainly, write, call or e-mail that person. They need to know that they turn Democrats off when they turn their back on PBO.

What was the purpose of Ann and Mitt going on Fox? We all know he meant exactly what he said during that speech to his rich donors when he talk down about the 47%.
No, think I heard they have their own personal costume department in one of their castles. They’re gonna rent them out for the next R candidate and spouse, so it won’t be so “hard” for them to get started, ’cause ya know, “This is hard.” Gag.
ah this word press! I didn’t realize a reply to my post. Yah, I Prettyfoot – I don’t know if there was anything besides what bob found televised. I would have liked to have seen the moment that the police chief actually gave Sen. Lewis his badge.
I’m watching the Romney’s on Fox News Sunday for the pure entertainment and boy are they delivering. Ann Romney, come up and get your Oscar! The choking up, the victim act, the woe is me attitude.
Romney says the 47% moment wasn’t what he meant then he reiterated his “Obama Gifts” comment. This is why Romney will never understand why he is a loser to the whole world.
Chips if you’re still around, do you know why I don’t get the little yellow indication that someone has replied to a comment of mine? It’s been 3 days now that the only thing in my little chat icon is a Happy Anniversary message from Word Press. When I click on it, thinking it will clear it, it never actually comes up. My computer stays in a perpetual searching mode. Any ideas?
Hiya Cookemom, I’ll have to check that out with WordPress support, I hoped it was just a temporary glitch but, as you said, it’s been happening for three days. Thanks for letting me know.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Claire McCaskill and Bill Nelson will introduce legislation that would cut pay for members of Congress if federal employees are furloughed due to the sequester. The legislation calls for a reduction in Congressional salaries once federal furloughs begin.
“The federal workforce is looking at furloughs that would result in a sizeable pay cut-and there’s absolutely no reason members of Congress should exempt themselves,” McCaskill said. “We can and should reach a balanced compromise to replace these damaging across-the-board cuts, but until we do, this is an obvious step to hold Congress accountable for the job we need to get done.”
Like I said yesterday, they don’t care because they have no skin in the game!
That’s a great idea. Also, cut their health insurance. Make them go to the private insurers and see what they can find. Until they do that, they won’t realize what normal people have to do.

Am in MASS taking care of a sister following surgery and a local TV station did a great job covering one of the fallouts of the sequester here where Natick Labs (testing efficacy of military gear) will have to furlough nearly 1600 employees for 22 days. Luckily not laying off employees, but they did discuss the impact on businesses in the area if people lost about a month’s income. Hope red state news teams are doing the same.
Missing you all. internet time is limited to her nap times.
On another note, and sorry if it’s been posted in the past few days, this College Humor video about gay marriage is hysterical. I still have tears from laughing so hard.
Jackie, in the comment above suggested that Dems need to run on progressive issues even in red or purple districts.
I agree very strongly with this assessment and here is why:
if you are a voter and your socio-economic outlook has not changed over the years that you have been voting for the party that controls your whole state, a candidate who is going to get your attention is someone offering something NEW.
In other words, the central question to voters in the red and purple districts is: for years you have voted gop & their policies, yet your OWN situation (on e.g. education, incomes etc) is still the same or has become worse, don’t think it is time to give the other option a chance?
I heard this story this morning, and was heartened by the voters in that country and the fact that they’re fed up with fat cats getting rewarded even when they so obviously have failed at their jobs. They said that the business lobbying group fought hard, and claimed that capping executive salaries would make the country less competitive – and voters did the right thing anyway. Let’s hope that some of that clear-eyed thinking can make its way over to this side of the Atlantic.
This guy is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not good at his job!!

Boehner Sees No Resolution for Sequester
House Speaker John Boehner told NBC News there “is no easy way to stop the budget cuts — known as the ‘sequester’ – that began taking effect Friday night, and voiced uncertainty over how Washington can solve the overall fiscal problems that have consumed the nation’s politics for more than two years.”
Said Boehner: “I don’t think anyone quite understands how it gets resolved.”
Nancy Pelosi…….John Boehner. This is a example why women should get the same pay that men get, if they do the same job. Boehner and Pelosi are Speakers of the House. Pelosi were the Speaker, but there is no question that Nancy Pelosi were a better Speaker than Boehner. Proving a woman can do a job just as good if not better than a man.
It’s important to note, that where ever you are, when a Democrat is picked to run in your district, make a point to defend the President.
If they run away from his policies and Him, they will lose!
Let it be written.
ponder this: Americans suffer assaults on their privacy — they are groped in public and wiretapped en masse — and surrender their constitutional protections against unwarranted searches in the name of the war on terror, yet they cannot muster the will to protect children from mass murder with military-style weapons. We have spent more than $1 trillion on homeland security since Sept. 11, 2001, yet have withheld annual funding of less than $3 million for research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on gun violence.
Why are the First, Fourth and Fifth amendments subject to erosion in the name of homeland security, but the Second Amendment is beyond compromise in the name of saving innocent lives?
The risks of terrorism are not so much greater than the risks of gun violence that a disproportionate response is justified. Between 1969 and 2009, according to a 2011 Heritage Foundation study, 5,586 people were killed in terrorist attacks against the United States or its interests abroad. By comparison, about 30,000 people were killed by guns in the United States every year between 1986 and 2010. This means that about five times as many Americans are killed every year by guns than have been killed in terrorist attacks since Richard Nixon took office.
Good morning Chips and TOD family. I noticed up thread you were talking about the group in KY that made a racial remark about McConnell wife. I checked to see if I was following them and what they were doing. They put out a statement of apology and restate their values. The person who did the tweet and their supervisor are gone. I am going to give them another chance. I believe we must check out the whole story before we write them off. Here is a link to their statement. http://progresskentucky.com/index.php/making-news/press-releases/57-progress-kentucky-recommits-to-appropriate-and-vigorous-debate
When I sent McConnell a e-mail, I saw were he was asking if anyone want a photo of him. I said to myself, who the heck want a picture of Mitch McConnell? That isn’t racists is it?
“Ann Richards on How to Be a Good Republican: 1. You have to believe that the nation’s current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but yesterday’s gasoline prices are all Clinton’s fault. 2. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own. 3. You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.”
Ann Richards quote
More:
On How to Be a Good Republican: [excerpts]
You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.
You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.
You have to believe…everything Rush Limbaugh says.
You have to believe society is color-blind and growing up black in America doesn’t diminish your opportunities, but you still won’t vote for Alan Keyes.
You have to be against government interference in business, until your oil company, corporation or Savings and Loan is about to go broke and you beg for a government bail out.
You have to believe a poor, minority student with a disciplinary history and failing grades will be admitted into an elite private school with a $1,000 voucher.
And this:
Most of all, I remember those children in the classrooms and those kids who grabbed me around the knees, and I think of the old people who really need a voice when they’re trapped in wheelchairs in dirty nursing homes. The person in this office really must have a conscience to know that how they direct this government dramatically affects the lives of those people.
it’s not just Republicans who refuse to accept it when Obama gives them what they want; the same applies, with even less justification, to centrist pundits. As people like Greg Sargent point out time and again, the centrist ideal — deficit reduction via a mix of revenue increases and benefits cuts — is what Obama is already offering; in fact, his proposals have been to the right of Bowles-Simpson. Yet the centrist pundits keep demanding that Obama offer what he has already offered, and condemn both sides equally (or even place most of the blame on Obama) for the failure to reach a deal. Again, informing them of their error wouldn’t help; their whole shtick is about blaming both sides, and they will always invent some reason why Obama just isn’t doing it right.
Anyway, props to Ezra — and is the use of Twitter exchanges to document political hypocrisy a new frontier in reporting?
OK I was just knocked off of TOD and got a message ‘server maintenance’ it said not to do anything on the browser (back or forward) for 5 minutes then refresh. no not me. I logged out and in to wordpress. That fixed me being able to “like” but I still am not getting notifications of people responding to my posts.
I’m not so sure I agree with Bloomberg using his money in local elections. Statewide or congressional elections maybe, not even sure then, but definitely not at the local district level. There were about 11+ Dems running to replace Jr. As far as I know, only one of them had a positive NRA score. So how did Bloomberg choose this particular person? I happen to think in this case she was the best pick for her constituents, but how did Bloomberg know this? Who did he consult? What does she owe him policy wise other than gun vote legislation? I still don’t think this is the way to go. Now on the other hand, OFA will be doing similar things at the local level, but I hope they let the local folks take the lead and be the face of the movement.
I understand how you feel…here in Phila,,, DEM politics is full of cronyism…the DEM is not grassrroots..there was conflict here …between OFA and some of the DEM machne…hence OFA had lot of out of town folks knocking on doors…
when i was block captain…i butted heads with some of the local committee people because we did voter registration….there are organizing differences between some of the DEM Machine and OFA….
we shall see how we move forward…
some times the local folks are not about empowering the community …more interested in keeping power for themselves…
Be advised everyone. Robin Kelly is my Congresswoman and has a track record in State government and is much, much better than JJ jr.And Debbie Halverson. She is the real deal that’s why I voted for her.
I am not a fan of Mayor Bloomberg, he’s not a musician, so I guess I will put it like this, sometimes he say things about POTUS that he doesn’t have to say. And I don’t like it.
I agree w/ both of you in your sentiments; I could care less for him personally but as a counterweight to the NRA, spend….spend….spend…we need all the allies we can get. Remember the NRA only spent about $30 million in 2012, it was the threat that scared congressman, now their are several counterweights. The more the merrier, in my opinion.
Gun control is only one of the many, many, many issues that face that community. Since Bloomberg decided to pour his money into that community on TV ads to elect a candidate, then I hope he’s as willing to spend money or help Kelly get the really necessary stuff for her community. I’m not talking about implementing a ‘stop and frisk’ policy either. Is that next? Will she be expected to get that initiative off the ground, since it’s working so well for him? Sorry, but for me, in this case, it’s ok to reject what may seem to be the perfect as the enemy of the good.
Don’t anyone get me wrong, I’m not saying that Mayor Bloomberg shouldn’t spend his money to help elect pro gun control politicians, that is perfectly find if he choose too, I am just saying I don’t care for the things he say about the President. I’ve never really cared for him.
I think he’s trolling Georgie Boy, who showcased Rodman as if he were a dignitary home from a state sanctioned visit. I happen to think Dennis held his own, considering George went after him more heavy handed than he does actual political peeps. Dennis just should have had a better answer when he tried to illustrate how there have been human rights issues here in the good ol’ USA. He got hung up on the wrong comparison to make his point.
I have not seen the Interview, I usually dont watch Sunday shows anymore, but if you watched the 90′s Chi. Bulls, this is funny.

As was stated on the show, It’s scary that Rodman now knows more about North Korea’s leader than our own CIA. That said, who cares if it’s Rodman who moves things along? We all let out a collective breath, when he said, ‘he don’t want war’.

Why is it so wrong if poor folks gets something free from the Government, but according to the radical extreme racists crazy ass Republicans, it’s just fine and dandy if rich folks gets free stuff from the Government.
Well, I hope any Latinos who were planning to become Republicans once immigration is done will think twice about that party. There is one party that sees all minorities as people who deserve full citizenship and the rights conferred with that citizenship, whether born here or naturalized. And there’s another party that only sees people as potential voters for or against their party, unless the person is worth several million/billion dollars – then they deserve all rights of citizenship.
Romney was sure his enthusiastic fans would vote for him in droves. He can see them from his parking lot! http://t.co/oLTQVFNSoF— CarolMae (@CarolMaeWY) March 03, 2013
I see in today’s RNC outreach to minorities, Mittens has explained that POTUS won because he gave health care and stuff to “minorities and low income” people. It is too early in the day to start drinking!
according to the study, the rich are more likely to break traffic laws, to exhibit unethical decision-making tendencies, to take things of value from others, to lie in a negotiation, to cheat to win a game, and to endorse unethical behavior at work, than were lower-class individuals. Moreover, the data showed that a positive attitude toward greed was the main driver for the wealthy’s tolerance of and participation in unethical conduct. Or, as St. Paul once put it, “the love of money is the root of all evil.”
Hello.
Congratsssssssssss on 1st….Good Morning UT
Mooooooorning UT, mooooorning Prettyfoot, mooooooorning anyone else who wakes up soon.
Good Morning UT, and congrats on first.
UT, why am I always surprised by their absolute dishonesty? I shouldn’t be by now, but it still stuns me.
#Stupid
Morning Jovie – what the hell? What did they say? Who are they?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/03/03/mitch-mcconnell-wife-racist-attacks_n_2800794.html
Oh boy, well done Progress Kentucky
Whoever tweeted that is as bad as any RWNJ.
And he will use this in the campaign, because the Republicans issues suck.
Exactly – what an idiotic thing to to, now McConnell and his wife look like victims set upon by nasty liberals. Give me strength!
I am highly suspicious of this “liberal” group, which on further reading appears to be a Tea Party -loving organization that wants to primary McConnell. From what I read, many Democrats do not want to be associated with this group because it is misrepresenting itself and spreading misinformation about Democrats.
They need to be well and truly exposed after this, that’s not something any true liberal would ever have said/tweeted.
Exactly. Here is an example of that kind of ” Dem-loving Democrat.” I’m just posting a link to this person’s Twitter so that folks can see how some people call themselves “Democrats” but they would fit in with the most vile elements of the Right-wing party….
https://twitter.com/AbbyLovesDems
By the way Jeff Gauvin has reported this individual
good I’m glad Jeff did that. I just read that account’s first page of tweets.
Next!
follow the money.
What is the name of the super pac and how long has it been in action?
I would not be suprised if it a republican creation.
of course by playing victim, it could be one method that turtle is trying to keep liberal-leaning superpacs out of his reelection
That is why I said ii proven.
I agree. Mitt Romney made references to PBO’s birth certificate and Kentucky voted happily for him – where was McConnell then?
Okay Cookemom, I tried those exercises and now I need firefighters to unknot me. Thanks for nothing!
Aww, keep at it Chips, I use to be a pretzel.
Loses
some say that immigration reform could play a role in the solvency of these programs because it would help with the demographics.
I have also listened to other suggestions by PBO which could help with the solvency – its too early for my brain to work
Good point!
That is health care, two different things. They can raise the take home on Medicare from 1.25 to 2.0 on payroll, but the SS is not involved in this.
#Trust Barak….
You can’t solve the debt by laying off people who pay taxes. A major reason for the current deficit is the recession and high unemployment.
Illinois Teapublican calls gun control “castration”. Fits exactly with how I have always viewed Republicans and their guns. Delirious teapub said gun control advocates were trying to castrate him.
http://www.rrstar.com/blogs/kevinhaas/x711925952/Rep-Jim-Sacia-compares-gun-control-to-castration
Idiot.
Did you see the old coot? A gun is likely the only thing he can fire.
Is Jeff referring to his own son??
No – click on the link and you will see some details that Jeff provided: that it’s the boy’s father saying those words.
Ah, okay Hopefruit, thanks. A few others on Twitter assumed it was Jeff’s child, lots of confusion.
yes, that’s what I thought when I first saw it yesterday. Even though the link is there, I guess cause his followers know him, and with no quotation marks, it’s easy to think it’s his child.
He just said the quotation marks didn’t show up in the tweet Cookemom, hence the confusion. What a heartbreaking story.
I have a 7 year old boy. Who ever was quoted, I can’t imagine their pain.
I don’t think so.
Guns Killed 4 Year Old Aydan Perea. He Lived 4 Days Before His Family Donated His Heart To A Little Girl In Texas
The little one is not his, but another family. They were kind enough to let him live on, to give life to another.
Thanks Desertflower, what an extraordinary family.
Truly extraordinary. They did right by their son during a difficult time.

REPUBLICAN MESSAGE – Mitch McConnell on @CNNSOTU saying sequester is great. Boehner on #MTP saying we need to stop it. #clear
———————————–
———————————–
http://www.newrepublic.com/article/112561/sequestration-2013-ignore-rush-limbaugh-budget-cuts-are-real#
LOLGOP @LOLGOP
—————————————
Republicans on TV both bashing and praising the sequester while Ann Romney tells us how bad she feels for America. AWESOME rebranding.
——————————————————
Good morning TOD and Chips
LOLGOP,
Nothing surprises me when it comes to these jackals. or as PBO puts it “Carnival Barkers.
Ann probably made him accept the invitation to speak at CPAC too.
What about Dr Carlson?
He was invited to CPAC and is being stroked to run for President. Dr Carlson, to me, is just as lost as the rest of right wing numb nuts.
Gerrymandered.
I agree with you Jackie…not going to let pessimism become my thought process….how does one get involved in this process…in our state…
PF, From what I understand there are branches of the DSCC and the DCCC that will be working in PA, but I would work for the candidates that declare themselves in your own district.
I think candidates need to talk more about
- how the gop has defunded education and given taxes to their friends in business
- income-stagnation and poverty should be key
- health care & protecting the vulnerable
- cost of education
- going to DC using people power and reject being beholden to big money.
- removing road-blocks to voting
- high rates of incarceration & making profits from locking people away for long periods
Run away from..
I was trying to respond to Jackie Grumbacher’s post about Pennsylvania above – wrong timing I guess
I don’t see the dragon…where is he?
having spent more than a year listening to queen ann and her lying greedy husband, that is enough punishment for my soul; now i just ignore them
she’s meeeeellllllllting!!!!!
What was the purpose of Ann and Mitt going on Fox? We all know he meant exactly what he said during that speech to his rich donors when he talk down about the 47%.
who gives a shite about mittbot and the horse lady anymore ? even rethugs don’t.
shall we not waste our time on this scummiest candidate any more?
Heh..I guess Ms. Ann spent too much time listening to Chuck Todd tell her that PBO’s supporters were not enthusiastic as Willard’s.
And Morning Joe ranting Nate Silver didn’t know what he is talking about.
So do they have to send all the powdered wigs and other royalty stuffs back to the costume department?
No, think I heard they have their own personal costume department in one of their castles. They’re gonna rent them out for the next R candidate and spouse, so it won’t be so “hard” for them to get started, ’cause ya know, “This is hard.” Gag.
So Queen Ann is not over the defeat, I don’t give a Blank. I’ll let you guys fill in the Blank.
in response to what bob posted last thread. read the comments and you’ll understand why the Voter Rights act must stay put.
This SC must be living in a cave if they think for one second that we don’t need this! Just look at the last 3 voting cycles!
was the March televised any where?
ah this word press!
He has this EXACTLY OPPOSITE of the truth!

That was a coupla months back, wasn’t it ?
Chips if you’re still around, do you know why I don’t get the little yellow indication that someone has replied to a comment of mine? It’s been 3 days now that the only thing in my little chat icon is a Happy Anniversary message from Word Press. When I click on it, thinking it will clear it, it never actually comes up. My computer stays in a perpetual searching mode. Any ideas?
Hiya Cookemom, I’ll have to check that out with WordPress support, I hoped it was just a temporary glitch but, as you said, it’s been happening for three days. Thanks for letting me know.
Just saw this Cookemom, so it’s a WordPress-wide glitch:

Hopefully they’ll get to work fixing it when so many have reported it.
thanks madam, you da bomb!
thanks for finding that out Chips! Have had that problem too and now I find that I can’t “Like” your post. I can tweet it though but not “like” it.
YES!!! http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022452405
Great idea Senator McCaskill and Senator Nelson.
Great Bill!!!! Let McConnell filibuster this!
That’s a great idea. Also, cut their health insurance. Make them go to the private insurers and see what they can find. Until they do that, they won’t realize what normal people have to do.
EXACTLY!
infacrt why not dummy down their health care…to the level of their poorest continuent…
Hope your sister gets well soon
Thanks, DF. Me, too!!
wishing your sister a very speedy recovery & wishing you strength and patience as you provide the needed care
Bless you and your sister….
Sending ((((hugs)))) to you and your sister. Hope her recovery goes smooth. Prayers to yu both.

On another note, and sorry if it’s been posted in the past few days, this College Humor video about gay marriage is hysterical. I still have tears from laughing so hard.

OMG that was hysterical! thanks Susan! Hope you are taking care of yourself too!
Lawd Chile!!! That was some kinda funny!!!!
In Massachusetts, the Governor is a Drmocrat and the Legislature is 75% Demicratic.
It’s one if the most proficient States in the Nation.
Shareholders will have a veto over salaries, golden handshakes will be forbidden, and managers of companies who flout the rules could face prison. …
Some 70% are thought to have supported plans to give shareholders a veto on compensation and ban big payouts for new and departing managers.
You wonder where ?
The cradle of corrupt money world over.

GM Chipsticks, TOD. Hope everyone slept well……
This guy is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not good at his job!!

Said Boehner: “I don’t think anyone quite understands how it gets resolved.”
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2013/03/03/boehner_sees_no_resolution_for_sequester.html
He needs to BE FIRED!
Proving a woman can do a job just as good if not better than a man.
the deficit has decreased since PBO has been office…why wasn’t that mentioned…
Because Boner has Selective Memory Syndrome
They don’t need to serve life term on the Supreme Court.
It’s important to note, that where ever you are, when a Democrat is picked to run in your district, make a point to defend the President.
If they run away from his policies and Him, they will lose!
Let it be written.
Let it be done!

ponder this: Americans suffer assaults on their privacy — they are groped in public and wiretapped en masse — and surrender their constitutional protections against unwarranted searches in the name of the war on terror, yet they cannot muster the will to protect children from mass murder with military-style weapons.
EXCELLENT MUST READ

No. You just do not like McConnell.
George Stephanopoulos is being tougher and more critical of Dennis Rodman than he ever is with a politician.
absolutely!
He was treating “The Worm” as though he was a trained diplomat representing the US government.
This is ??? what’s the word??? http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/51025390/ns/sports-nba/
There’s Rodman, bowing, with a cigar in his fingers, to MiniMe….and Mini Me “just wants PBO to CALL HIM”…OMG.
if kim wants rodman in exchange for the bomb, then I may even offer to help rodman pack his bags
This guy did too many drugs or something…ThinkProgress has more on his incoherent rantings. Honestly, he’s a loon.
well, things are happening fast in the world.
Now report is that Queen Elizabeth 11 of UK is hospitalized with a stomach ailment. I hope she gets better soon

it’s not just Republicans who refuse to accept it when Obama gives them what they want; the same applies, with even less justification, to centrist pundits.
So i thought that maybe word press was fixing the reply notification issue. did anyone else get that while on here. i also had just visited a site I hadn’t visited before and wonder if i didn’t wander into cyber never never land.
no not me. I logged out and in to wordpress. That fixed me being able to “like” but I still am not getting notifications of people responding to my posts.
Bloomberg is not scared to spend money, he is on a mission. He reminded an interviewer, he spent $500 million on drink ban in NYC
I love these guys Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor!!!! His first tweet ever, and he trolls David Gregory!!!
(Meta World Peace is Ron Artest of the L.A. Lakers, who changed his name, and lest just say has some issues…..
I agree. George was the one who came across as the ass.
Today marks 100 years since more than 5,000 women marched in DC for the right to vote. The 19th Amendment was later passed in 1920.
Do they even HEAR themselves anymore?
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/03/bill-kristol-romney-lost-latinos-because-they-want-free-health-care/
I almost think that the more they talk, the more thinking people everywhere say FU….

I see in today’s RNC outreach to minorities, Mittens has explained that POTUS won because he gave health care and stuff to “minorities and low income” people. It is too early in the day to start drinking!
http://www.allgov.com/news/unusual-news/surprise-studies-show-rich-people-are-more-unethical-than-poor-people-130303?news=847234
according to the study, the rich are more likely to break traffic laws, to exhibit unethical decision-making tendencies, to take things of value from others, to lie in a negotiation, to cheat to win a game, and to endorse unethical behavior at work, than were lower-class individuals. Moreover, the data showed that a positive attitude toward greed was the main driver for the wealthy’s tolerance of and participation in unethical conduct. Or, as St. Paul once put it, “the love of money is the root of all evil.”
