On Wednesday morning, the House will vote on the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 933) to fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year. This is the last opportunity to defund Obamacare before the health exchanges are implemented on October 1. Conservative lawmakers, Jim Bridenstine (OK) and Tim Huelskamp (KS), submitted an amendment to the Rules Committee today to defund Obamacare. The amendment was rejected. As such, the CR will continue to fund Obamacare.
Bridenstine and Huelskamp circulated a letter asking colleagues to join them in the defund effort and to resurrect our most important policy issue, and frankly, our most potent political weapon in the field. The fight over Obamacare has been dormant ever since we won the 2010 elections. This letter was an effort to restart that discussion and call upon conservatives to stand firm one last time to block the worst piece of legislation in American history.
In the end, 30 members signed the letter:

I’m sure there are millions of Americans, many of whom can no longer afford their private health insurance, who sincerely appreciate this effort.
A number of good friends of the conservative movement are not on this list. The letter was circulated last Thursday, so there hasn’t been a lot of time for members to weight in. To those who didn’t get a chance to sign the letter but support the sentiment expressed in the letter, please let us know that you support the effort and vote down the CR.
To those who didn’t sign the letter because they feel committed to their agreement to vote for the CR as long as it contains the sequester cuts, please let us know your plan to push for defunding Obamacare in the future. Do you really think it will happen during the debt ceiling fight, which is perceived as more radioactive than a battle over the CR? Will you fight for defunding in the September CR, after passage of the Ryan budget? Or will you only vote for defunding Obamacare when it doesn’t have the force of law, while voting to fund it when a defund effort would actually force the issue?
Moreover, has leadership upheld their side of the bargain to push a path to a balanced budget when they forced you to vote for the Orwellian-named Violence Against Women Act? How is expanding an unconstitutional program a step towards a path to balance? These are all questions that your constituents are asking.
To those stalwarts who declined to sign the letter because you are tired of fighting losing battles with leadership, please reinvigorate your commitment to stand by your convictions. Obamacare is not the issue to go wobbly on. Remember, unlike with many other issues, there are millions of people who stand behind you. This is an issue we cannot let slide.
And to those who declined to sign because you honestly feel that Obamacare is here to stay; those of you who share the view of Jack Kingston that “Obamacare has been the law of the land, and it is getting implemented. We have to work in that context,” it might be time to retire. If we are going to operate under the assumption that Obamacare is here to stay, there is nothing to operate.
We cannot continue to operate under normal rules of engagement. We cannot let the Democrats score 5 touchdowns and congratulate ourselves when we score a field goal with 2 minutes left on the clock. Securing some random discretionary cuts that have already gone into effect, half of which are from the military, is meaningless if Obamacare is not disrupted this year.
Democrats are indefatigable in their pursuit of utopian socialism. Our guys must match and surpass their degree of courage, commitment, and passion to roll back the socialism and restore our Republican form of government. That road is not paved with the funding of Obamacare.

The talk about classification of documents above has reminded me of something which MUST be brought to light now that jeb is trying to get himself elected – G.H. Bush’s records were never released.
here is a reminder to those here who know more about classification & being good librarians:
- I believe I had it was reported that documents from every US Presidency are released after a specific number of years have passed from when they left office.
- in the case of the Bush Crime Family, the time to release 41′s records was supposed to be due just a short-time after the SCOTUS gave shrib 43 the Presidency.
- I remember at the time that one of the demands that Darth Vader had and put into action was to assign one of the top-ranking officials (I can’t recall which one of the gang) to re-classify the information for 41 for another number of yrs (many be 20 – or what ever time is desginated by law).
- so you can see that if jeb can get into the WH (God Forbid) then he would have another chance to re-classify both 43 & 41′s records.
Can you imagine what the country would not know about the activities of 41 (as head of CIA & POTUS) and also 43 (especially leading to the Iraq War?
Anyone have any idea where we can get a news report about this? I remember that some host on Progressive Talk Radio (probably Randi Rhodes) did some shows about this re-classification when it it happened.
I thought I read 25 years for past Presidents…I was curious as to whether McCain’s info could be had under FOIA….and thought I saw that info in there….
I don’t know how long, but some historians are still listening to LBJ, Nixon, I’ve never heard about Reagan’s being released. Of course, I don’t think he had deep thoughts.

My thoughts on the markets – brought over

In my opinion – could be completely wrong, as I am no expert – the markets are too volatile and too high. They go up and down 1-2% on the smallest piece of news (eg Italian election results, minor change in employment figures). There has been a major jump since PBO was re-elected with not a lot to base it on. I believe there will be a major correction – and can imagine who the GOP will try to blame.
My own retirement investments have sky rocketed in the past 2 months – slow and steady growth is good – I don’t like these jumps – in either direction.
No, something is bothering me too. Why with the sequester? I feel the insiders are manipulating it.
I believe that some of this is because of the spending cuts. Corporate profits have been sky-high due to all the layoffs and forcing people to work hard and longer for less. The right wing and their puppet masters are thrilled with all that. The GOP have apparently been trying to get some legislation to cancel some of the Pentagon cuts. They are diabolical.
People working longer for less has been happening since Reagan times – I agree it is getting worse – but I think it is more that people are making money out of the market itself – rather than the underlying companies – it’s not just happening in the US – all world markets are similar – European ones go up and down based on a rumor out of any one of 17 countries – and in my world we follow the worst of everyone. Remembering that the Netherlands used to have a huge market for tulips which eventually imploded – I’m not sure the stock market as we know it will live much longer than me.
Need some clarification on a few issues related to the current outrage about drones operating in the US:
-except for the obvious fact that one has a human at its controls, how is a drone different from a typical police helicopter that has a mounted camera and is used to monitor events from the sky?
- haven’t these been in use at least to film episodes of “Cops” aka “Bad Boys, …. Bad Boys. Or is it because the people who are routinely chase by the police choppers are usually from a different background. Do these cop chopper first get a warrant before they chase US citizens throughout their neighborhood
- how are images captured by drone any different from images captured by the millions of cameras that record our every activity on the street
- how is the fact that law enforcement can use lethal force on US citizens (almost dairy) different from what AG called extreme circumstances?
In summary,
- is a mounted a camera by any name still a camera?
and
- is a lethal force delivered by any gun still lethal force?
All reasonable & informed people, you being one as evidenced by the structure of your questions gcLinda, know the answers. We also know that the solutions to why any of these systems are in use have everything to do about improving the quality of LIFE for ALL citizens rather than aggregating almost all resources and wealth into the possession of a very, very few.
Implementing those solutions requires a society in which each person is enabled, to the best of their abilities, to think critically and both think and act with empathy. Those skills, along with literacy and numerical skills, are the bedrock of the type of society we know how to nurture and we have as a President, for the first time in my 65 years, who gets it, comprehensively.

I have no brief for him, and as a Latino, I have a very jaundiced eye towards the long line of caudillos—both of the Left and Right—which have “graced” our various republics since independence from Spain. But, unless the Venezuelan gov’t does a complete 180, there will be elections in 30 days. If that’s a dictatorship a la Cuba, it’s certainly a very incompetent one. So we’ll see who wins in 30 days.

The so-called Republican base over 56 includes a whole lot of Democrats and there are millions more people under 56, who will be furious at the Rs for this. Amidst a standoff over the sequester, Obama invited a group of Republican senators – as yet unnamed – for dinner at the White House, CNN reported Wednesday.

A state judge has ordered the Corbett administration to reinstate funding for programs that provided health insurance to tens of thousands of low-income Pennsylvanians.
In his ruling Tuesday, Commonwealth Court President Judge Dan Pellegrini found that two statutes that stripped money from the adultBasic and Medicaid programs were unconstitutional because they diverted money from the federal tobacco settlement to finance items other than health care in the general budget.

They are blocking because of a provision in the Dodd/Frank bill that says big oil has to disclose all foreign payments and pay a penalty.
This has been brought to court by big oil, and it is sitting in DC Appellate Court.
