Hey, congrats, SWbluega!
Coveted #1 position. Way to go!
Now I’m probably going to annoy TODville by bringing over my last couple of posts from the end of the last thread.
Thanks Arapaho415. :-) Looks like there were about 3 of us who got here at the same time. Kudos JER and Desertflower!

Ms Chips, SO sorry about Man U… Nani should NEVER have had that red card. Just wrong!
Mr. andogriff was furious with the ref for that one.
Umm..yes Nani deserved that red card. You almost jump someone with your flying leg kick, you deserve 10,000 red cards.
Hahahahaha. You know I’m right.
Hey WordPress has a new thing called “Like This” under people’s comments. Interesting.
Really?! Oooooh, I always get nervous when WP introduces new things, it usually results in a mess. Will check it out.
It just disappeared after you said you’d check it out. What have you done you blog tyrant!
Seriously?! My secret is out: I Am WordPress!!!
I thought I was on LSD for a moment, down thread I asked what are these blue stars? Now there gone….that feeling you get after hitting your head on a wall.
Ah, thank you Andogriff! I’ll be honest: when the ref gave the red card I almost punched the TV, I couldn’t believe it. But when I looked at the replays from all angles later I reckoned Nani was just asking for trouble. I don’t think it was deliberate (like De Jong on Alonso in the World Cup final), because he wasn’t even looking towards the RM player, but it was completely reckless and stupid – but then, stupidity is Nani’s speciality. Damn it all!
Yes, all true… but he WAS just going for the ball, even though it was indeed reckless and stupid!
That’s what I adore about you, Chips. Like myself, you can be an honest assessor of when your side royally fucks up. Welcome to my world with the woeful Lakers and “OHWHYTHEFUCKDIDROMANHIRERAFA”.

After a post re. horse slaughterhouse proposal for N.M., I did some checking—-remembered that Illinois closed down some foreign co.’s slaughterhouse in 2007. Now I see they’re popping up all over—-not happy that President Obama signed a bill overturning the nationwide ban. This is disgusting to me. Here are the facts:
I suggestion on the last thread was to create a petition…either on Change.org ….or now, I guess a WH petition. I have to say, the fact that he did that saddens me.
Wow, had no idea.
Thanks for following up dotster3.
I think it was you who mentioned you are on twitter. If I may be so bold to ask, what’s your twitter handle?
Thanks for asking—but so far nothing much to see—-just a bunch of retweets. Need to get my twitter legs—-easing into it. And I don’t like my username—-need to change and then I’ll advertise.
Why do I feel that there’s a lot more to this story? Somehow I doubt that PBO would callously sign a bill overturning a ban on slaughterhouses…just because. There’s something else that the humane society is not disclosing.
It was part of a Federal Agricultural Appropriations Bill.
I’m not talking just the bill – I’m referring to the reason he signed the bill, knowing that it would overturn the ban on slaughterhouses. I think there is more to this story than meets the eye.

Hey Ted Cruz, want to start a REAL investigation??? Start a full fledged investigation as to WHY JOHN MCCAINS MILITARY RECORS ARE SEALED???— Art Leverone (@ArtLeverone) March 06, 2013
Scathing. I’ve heard most of it before. And yet he prevails … with the help of the lackluster GOP who wouldn’t know a military record if they saw one, as well as the MSM who only care who’s “nice” to them on the “Straight Bullshit Express.”
all the Pentagon debriefings of the prisoners who returned from Vietnam are now classified and closed to the public under a statute enacted in the 1990s with McCain’s backing. He says this is to protect the privacy of former POWs and gives it as his reason for not making public his own debriefing.
In 1989, 11 members of the House of Representatives introduced a measure they called “The Truth Bill.” A brief and simple document, it said: “[The] head of each department or agency which holds or receives any records and information, including live-sighting reports, which have been correlated or possibly correlated to United States personnel listed as prisoner of war or missing in action from World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict shall make available to the public all such records and information held or received by that department or agency. In addition, the Department of Defense shall make available to the public with its records and information a complete listing of United States personnel classified as prisoner of war, missing in action, or killed in action (body not returned) from World War II, the Korean conflict, and the Vietnam conflict.”
Opposed by Pentagon
Bitterly opposed by the Pentagon, “The Truth Bill” got nowhere. It was reintroduced in the next Congress in 1991 — and again disappeared. Then, suddenly, out of the Senate, birthed by the Arizona senator, a new piece of legislation emerged. It was called “The McCain Bill.” This measure turned “The Truth Bill ” on its head. It created a bureaucratic maze from which only a fraction of the available documents could emerge. And it became law. So restrictive were its provisions that one clause actually said the Pentagon didn’t even have to inform the public when it received intelligence that Americans were alive in captivity.
” … didn’t even have to inform the public when it received intelligence that Americans were alive in captivity.”
1. What about informing the families of the POWs and MIAs?
2. What was McCain hiding back in Vietnam that could have hurt him, once he returned here? (I just wrote that because this has implications that he did it from his vested self-interest, not anybody else’s interest, but I really have no idea.)
I think that some of the MIA/POW questions you asked may have been addressed in this article…I skimmed but didn’t read the whole thing
Df, funny how when you start looking at a lot of dark or sleazy stuff you find McCain’s name lurking somewhere. He has been a creepy menace for many decades. And he actually thought be could be president.

On Wednesday morning, the House will vote on the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 933) to fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year. This is the last opportunity to defund Obamacare before the health exchanges are implemented on October 1. Conservative lawmakers, Jim Bridenstine (OK) and Tim Huelskamp (KS), submitted an amendment to the Rules Committee today to defund Obamacare. The amendment was rejected. As such, the CR will continue to fund Obamacare.
Bridenstine and Huelskamp circulated a letter asking colleagues to join them in the defund effort and to resurrect our most important policy issue, and frankly, our most potent political weapon in the field. The fight over Obamacare has been dormant ever since we won the 2010 elections. This letter was an effort to restart that discussion and call upon conservatives to stand firm one last time to block the worst piece of legislation in American history.
In the end, 30 members signed the letter:
I’m sure there are millions of Americans, many of whom can no longer afford their private health insurance, who sincerely appreciate this effort.
A number of good friends of the conservative movement are not on this list. The letter was circulated last Thursday, so there hasn’t been a lot of time for members to weight in. To those who didn’t get a chance to sign the letter but support the sentiment expressed in the letter, please let us know that you support the effort and vote down the CR.
To those who didn’t sign the letter because they feel committed to their agreement to vote for the CR as long as it contains the sequester cuts, please let us know your plan to push for defunding Obamacare in the future. Do you really think it will happen during the debt ceiling fight, which is perceived as more radioactive than a battle over the CR? Will you fight for defunding in the September CR, after passage of the Ryan budget? Or will you only vote for defunding Obamacare when it doesn’t have the force of law, while voting to fund it when a defund effort would actually force the issue?
Moreover, has leadership upheld their side of the bargain to push a path to a balanced budget when they forced you to vote for the Orwellian-named Violence Against Women Act? How is expanding an unconstitutional program a step towards a path to balance? These are all questions that your constituents are asking.
To those stalwarts who declined to sign the letter because you are tired of fighting losing battles with leadership, please reinvigorate your commitment to stand by your convictions. Obamacare is not the issue to go wobbly on. Remember, unlike with many other issues, there are millions of people who stand behind you. This is an issue we cannot let slide.
And to those who declined to sign because you honestly feel that Obamacare is here to stay; those of you who share the view of Jack Kingston that “Obamacare has been the law of the land, and it is getting implemented. We have to work in that context,” it might be time to retire. If we are going to operate under the assumption that Obamacare is here to stay, there is nothing to operate.
We cannot continue to operate under normal rules of engagement. We cannot let the Democrats score 5 touchdowns and congratulate ourselves when we score a field goal with 2 minutes left on the clock. Securing some random discretionary cuts that have already gone into effect, half of which are from the military, is meaningless if Obamacare is not disrupted this year.
Democrats are indefatigable in their pursuit of utopian socialism. Our guys must match and surpass their degree of courage, commitment, and passion to roll back the socialism and restore our Republican form of government. That road is not paved with the funding of Obamacare.

You are absolutely right! Our fearless twitter worrier, Bobfr, has been advocating this for over two months.
The talk about classification of documents above has reminded me of something which MUST be brought to light now that jeb is trying to get himself elected – G.H. Bush’s records were never released.
here is a reminder to those here who know more about classification & being good librarians:
- I believe I had it was reported that documents from every US Presidency are released after a specific number of years have passed from when they left office.
- in the case of the Bush Crime Family, the time to release 41′s records was supposed to be due just a short-time after the SCOTUS gave shrib 43 the Presidency.
- I remember at the time that one of the demands that Darth Vader had and put into action was to assign one of the top-ranking officials (I can’t recall which one of the gang) to re-classify the information for 41 for another number of yrs (many be 20 – or what ever time is desginated by law).
- so you can see that if jeb can get into the WH (God Forbid) then he would have another chance to re-classify both 43 & 41′s records.
Can you imagine what the country would not know about the activities of 41 (as head of CIA & POTUS) and also 43 (especially leading to the Iraq War?
Anyone have any idea where we can get a news report about this? I remember that some host on Progressive Talk Radio (probably Randi Rhodes) did some shows about this re-classification when it it happened.
I thought I read 25 years for past Presidents…I was curious as to whether McCain’s info could be had under FOIA….and thought I saw that info in there….
I don’t know how long, but some historians are still listening to LBJ, Nixon, I’ve never heard about Reagan’s being released. Of course, I don’t think he had deep thoughts.

Why am I posting away on the old thread – when the new one has 197 – thats one hundred and ninety seven – responses – sigh!
My thoughts on the markets – brought over
In my opinion – could be completely wrong, as I am no expert – the markets are too volatile and too high. They go up and down 1-2% on the smallest piece of news (eg Italian election results, minor change in employment figures). There has been a major jump since PBO was re-elected with not a lot to base it on. I believe there will be a major correction – and can imagine who the GOP will try to blame.
My own retirement investments have sky rocketed in the past 2 months – slow and steady growth is good – I don’t like these jumps – in either direction.
No, something is bothering me too. Why with the sequester? I feel the insiders are manipulating it.
I believe that some of this is because of the spending cuts. Corporate profits have been sky-high due to all the layoffs and forcing people to work hard and longer for less. The right wing and their puppet masters are thrilled with all that. The GOP have apparently been trying to get some legislation to cancel some of the Pentagon cuts. They are diabolical.
People working longer for less has been happening since Reagan times – I agree it is getting worse – but I think it is more that people are making money out of the market itself – rather than the underlying companies – it’s not just happening in the US – all world markets are similar – European ones go up and down based on a rumor out of any one of 17 countries – and in my world we follow the worst of everyone. Remembering that the Netherlands used to have a huge market for tulips which eventually imploded – I’m not sure the stock market as we know it will live much longer than me.
Need some clarification on a few issues related to the current outrage about drones operating in the US:
-except for the obvious fact that one has a human at its controls, how is a drone different from a typical police helicopter that has a mounted camera and is used to monitor events from the sky?
- haven’t these been in use at least to film episodes of “Cops” aka “Bad Boys, …. Bad Boys. Or is it because the people who are routinely chase by the police choppers are usually from a different background. Do these cop chopper first get a warrant before they chase US citizens throughout their neighborhood
- how are images captured by drone any different from images captured by the millions of cameras that record our every activity on the street
- how is the fact that law enforcement can use lethal force on US citizens (almost dairy) different from what AG called extreme circumstances?
- is a mounted a camera by any name still a camera?
- is a lethal force delivered by any gun still lethal force?
All reasonable & informed people, you being one as evidenced by the structure of your questions gcLinda, know the answers. We also know that the solutions to why any of these systems are in use have everything to do about improving the quality of LIFE for ALL citizens rather than aggregating almost all resources and wealth into the possession of a very, very few.
Implementing those solutions requires a society in which each person is enabled, to the best of their abilities, to think critically and both think and act with empathy. Those skills, along with literacy and numerical skills, are the bedrock of the type of society we know how to nurture and we have as a President, for the first time in my 65 years, who gets it, comprehensively.

Okay, my 2 cents about Hugo Chavez.
I have no brief for him, and as a Latino, I have a very jaundiced eye towards the long line of caudillos—both of the Left and Right—which have “graced” our various republics since independence from Spain. But, unless the Venezuelan gov’t does a complete 180, there will be elections in 30 days. If that’s a dictatorship a la Cuba, it’s certainly a very incompetent one. So we’ll see who wins in 30 days.

These True Love stories make me cry!
This 80 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting.
When she went before the judge in Cincinnati he asked her, “What did you steal?”
She replied, “A can of peaches..”
The judge then asked her why she had stolen the can of peaches, and she replied
that she was hungry.
The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can.
She replied, “6.”
The judge said, “Then I will give you 6 days in jail.”
Before the judge could conclude the trial, the woman’s husband spoke up and asked
the judge if he could say something.
The judge said, “What is it?”
The husband said, “She also stole a can of peas.”

Hi guys, everytime I see this commercial, I believe this is what Sarah Palin was like as a child.
This child is too smart to be compared to Sarah Palin.
Sarah – in her latest reincarnation always wants more – for herself – any other similarity is non-existent – I find it intensely hard to believe that someone so dumb – so truly stupid – was ever elected as a Mayor – let alone a Governor. Is Alaska really so far away from reality?
MSNBC concert is simply thrilled about Ryan Budget 2, 56 and older(republican base, you ate safe from massive cuts to medicare, 56 and under, obamas base, you are screwed.
Yeah, and if the President goes along with that he has been given Ecstasy drugs.
What on Earth are they talking about?
Do it for the Country my ass!
More like do it for the Republican Base!
Warren Buffett switches his Trains from Dielsel to natural gas-
Burns much cleaner, and we have it right here in America. You will recall the Executive order in 2011 on Natural gas switch. This is his vision… :)
Jovie–Ryan is huffing and puffing out his chest to gain attention and to make himself a player in 2016. This Medicare crap will not pass the Senate–ever–and will NEVER be signed by the president. NEVER!!! Will there be some kind of means testing for Medicare in the future–possibly? There are retirees with very large incomes who may need to pay more, but I don’t see any greater concessions regarding benefits than this. The so-called Republican base over 56 includes a whole lot of Democrats and there are millions more people under 56, who will be furious at the Rs for this. Remember Pierce’s phrase–”zombie-eyed granny starver”? That’s Paul Ryan.
I hope you are right, but that old saying, you are liberal when you are young and conservative when you get old. Some of that is true, unfortunately. :(

Report: Obama invites group of GOP senators to dine at W.H.
By POLITICO STAFF | 3/6/13 7:39 AM EST
President Barack Obama will break bread with GOP senators on Wednesday night, according to a report.
Amidst a standoff over the sequester, Obama invited a group of Republican senators – as yet unnamed – for dinner at the White House, CNN reported Wednesday.
No word on the menu yet.
Mark Knoller will bring us the menu details. Stay tuned.
Bob Woodward wants an invite!
I bet they will all really like him and will want to seek compromise deals with him now. That WAS the problem, wasn’t it?—–that President Obama hadn’t had them over for chips and dip?
It’s alright to talk to Republicans, but I don’t trust any Republican.

European stock markets rose to their highest since the 2008 financial crisis on Wednesday, helped by signs the U.S. economy is improving and expectations of more pledges of support for growth from major central banks.
U.S. stock index futures also pointed to fresh gains on Wall Street, after the previous session’s stellar run saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI hit an all-time high. .N
The European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan are all expected to stick to ultra-easy monetary policy at meetings this week, following on from reassurances by U.S. Federal Reserve officials that their stimulus program remains in place.
Analysts even see some scope for fresh action in Europe on Thursday, giving a 40 percent chance for more bond buying from the Bank of England and a 10 percent likelihood of an interest rate cut from the ECB.
That, combined with some encouraging U.S. economic data this week and China’s promise of record government spending to help sustain growth, pushed world and European share indexes higher on Wednesday.
I love the playful, interesting and clever Twitter banter among PBO’s former (& current) guys :)

A state judge has ordered the Corbett administration to reinstate funding for programs that provided health insurance to tens of thousands of low-income Pennsylvanians.
In his ruling Tuesday, Commonwealth Court President Judge Dan Pellegrini found that two statutes that stripped money from the adultBasic and Medicaid programs were unconstitutional because they diverted money from the federal tobacco settlement to finance items other than health care in the general budget.
The DC judge was blocked yesterday, so much for filibuster reform aye Harry?
They are blocking because of a provision in the Dodd/Frank bill that says big oil has to disclose all foreign payments and pay a penalty.
This has been brought to court by big oil, and it is sitting in DC Appellate Court.
This is super bad news. I thought Reid made a deal to get judges thru the process in a speedy efficient manner. For me it was the only consolation for not destroying the filibuster.
Tell Rachel. She is losing her mind! I think her and Jon Stewart are where the Both sides do it meme comes from?
Thanks so much for the link, DF. Kinda figured it was just another shiny HAIR ON FIRE distraction/disruption/redirection story.
