I wonder, should I admit that *I* got caught calling the telephone co. when my internet ‘wasn’t working’ a while back and after 15 minutes or so going through all kinds of song and dance found out that it would have helped to just press the internet button on my laptop?
I had checked the modem and all lights were on, turned it off and on, replugged the modem into the telephone jack, as I proudly stated when asked. In short done all that was expected of me BEFORE calling….. at least I thought I had. My excuse is that I hadn’t had to turn on my laptop internet button as it’s ‘always on’, so I never gave it a thought. After them fiddling around, changing wireless connection passwords and what not, the smarty pants asked me to’ now push the button….. Did the blue light come on, or whatever?’ I must admit that it was only after pressuring the tech helper that he admitted we hadn’t needed to do the song and dance, all that had been needed was for ME to turn on the stuff. I blushed profusely even though he couldn’t see me, then told myself, at least my internet wireless connection code was now easier to remember. The embarrassment returns tho, every time I remember that I am now one of those ditzy customers who bothered the techies because I was too dumb to ‘troubleshoot’ for myself.

pssst, Jojo! Please don’t tell Amk anyone else I admitted this.

    This happened today.

My son (in college): “Dad, didja call me ?”

Me: “yeah ? Two days back. Even sent you a sms”.

MS: “Sorry, my phone was in silent mode” (Me talking to Me, ‘wtf? what kinda answer is that ? ‘).

Me: “Ok, what happened to your first sem results?”

MS: “yeah, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. You know that we are not allowed laptops in the hostel. Could you please check my result for me?” .

Me (a bit dazed and thinking what kinda college did I get my kid into): “Yeah, sure. I’ll check for you and call you back”.

Me: Now in frantic goggle-give-me-fucking-something-mode for 15 minutes.

    Me: After 15 minutes, “wtf?”

Me calling MS: “I checked dood, I don’t see any results for your first sem exams anywhere”.

MS: “You’re useless, dad. Could you put mum on the phone for me, please.?”.

@#$&*** - I am gonna fucking kill that boy.

Personal share——3 yr. old grandson arrived for a visit. He always waits in the car for me to come out and knock on his window. Then he says, “Come on in”. I open the door and give him a big kiss. He says “Unbuckle me”, wanting to escape his car seat. I fumble around with the thing, obviously taking too long, and he asks me, “Do you know how to do it?” And I say, “I sure do. Do you think I’m dumb, or something?” And he says, “No, I think you’re perfect.” Did you hear that? He said I’m perfect! Yay! Just thought you all would want to know, to have that confirmed. I’m perfect! My grandson knows and spoke the truth. I’m feeling pretty cocky right about now.

dotster3 aka Ms. Perfect - Such a precious story, which you’ll never forget. And it only gets better. Well, more or less.

I write down my 5 grandkids’ “quotable quotes” throughout the year, and we all read them at Christmas and laugh (because half the time they don’t know I’ve been capturing them). This is a partial readout from last summer (my grandma name is “G.G.”). This granddaughter is 9 years old.

Granddaughter to G.G., the first night of her visit during summer vacation, “I’m so glad to be here with my awesome grandmother.” (Sigh)

By the third night, granddaughter said to the others, “G.G. is so boring.” And the others nodded.

Thanks, Chips, for giving TODville a place to chat, while you get some well-deserved R&R. Based on previous comments, I’m just heartsick about what prompted this “hiatus.” Just sickened.

For those unhappy about WJC and DOMA, here’s something to keep in mind (see a couple of posts on TPM).

Both the House and Senate had the votes to override a veto from WJC. WJC was very concerned about having Repulican-majorities in both the House and Senate after the 1996 elections. Can you imagine? He was still impeached by the House in some stomach-turning, holier-than-thou grandstanding. Hmmm… sound familiar?

Oh yes, I am Roman Catholic, Vatican lives in the 2013, however, the methodology is still as backward as they come. Why are they taking so long? They have known since Feb 13/14, 2013. The last Cardinal just showed up on Thursday from Vietnam. Rome is not that far from Asia. They all know where to go and that their votes were needed to selected the next Pope. Yet, a Tortoise could have made that trip faster.

Number: S. 397 (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act )

Measure Title: A bill to prohibit civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse of their products by others.

This passed on July 25th 2005 by a vote of 65-31. Democrats that voted Yes

    Baucus
    Burr
    Byrd
    Conrad
    Dorgan
    Johnson
    Kohl
    Landrieu
    Lincoln
    Nelson
    Nelson
    Pryor
    Reid
    Rockefeller
    Salazar

    President Obama voted NO.

( This was right after the assault weapons ban expired ) Feinstein did not bother to vote at all. They cannot be sued or subject to Consumer Product Safety Regulations.

Congressman Schiff has a bill to reverse this .

I have been wondering WHY this is not part of the discussion in stopping gun violence. I sent a couple of messages about it but ppl seem to ignore it.

I believe that we can do a lot of service to the victims of gun violence if we demand that this becomes part of the national conversation and demand reinstating gun liability as part of the reforms. they can vote against it but it should be part of the conversation because later composition can change

A diagnosis for what is wrong with Republicans in Congress….and around the country….the no longer “sane” ones…..

The GOP is afflicted with ODD. how fitting.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002504/

    Oppositional defiant disorder

    Symptoms

Actively does not follow adults’ requests

    Angry and resentful of others

    Argues with adults

    Blames others for own mistakes

Has few or no friends or has lost friends

Is in constant trouble in school

    Loses temper

    Spiteful or seeks revenge

    Touchy or easily annoyed

To fit this diagnosis, the pattern must last for at least 6 months and must be more than normal childhood misbehavior.

The pattern of behaviors must be different from those of other children around the same age and developmental level. The behavior must lead to significant problems in school or social activities.

Lawrence doesn’t control them His colleagues were against the Drones during Bush. So knowing where they stood then explains where they are today. Joe Scarborough is the one that was with GW Bush and now has flipped.

Talking Filibuster is what many of Us on the left have wanted. Then Let Us push for what we want. Where I disagree with those cheering Rand Paul is that Rand Paul had an answer, yet he was still Filibustering. Then he later said that he agreed for what the Obama Adm was saying, just not the way they have said it.

      Hmm?

Question: Rand Paul was using a nonsensical argument to get the media who hates the Drone to flame and attack pres Obama. The media totally ignore the total bat poop wickedness that is Rand Paul and his utterances on the senate floor. Why?

      • 99 hopefruit2
        March 9, 2025 at 12:01 pm

My issue with these folks at MSNBC is not so much their objection to drones - as it is to their enabling of this paranoid, racist & misogynist jerk Rand Paul just because he cites drones in his grandstanding fund-raising scam. Rand Paul doesn’t give a rat’s arse about drones, and the folks at MSNBC know it, so they have no business endorsing his crap.

        • 100 Nena20409
          March 9, 2025 at 12:06 pm

Yes, HF…..I agree. But that is how Lefties with Microphones behave. Their Drone is most important to them than the Rand Paul behavior. Note. That is why Rev Al is not going there as much as he hates the Drone for him…….it is not just talk, it is the whole Rand Paul’s package.

          • 101 hopefruit2
            March 9, 2025 at 12:12 pm

In other words Lefties with Microphones just pretend to have a cause for career enhancing purposes, but don’t actually have one.

            • 102 Nena20409
              March 9, 2025 at 12:41 pm

Nope. That is not what I am saying. They care about their careers that goes without saying. However, they were against Drones during GW Bush and they spoke out too. That is what many lefties do. They will trash pres Obama, Clinton, Carter if they disagree. Their tone is what Irks me. Not their objections. The president can handle himself. We that support him can too. More of our point of views are needed to counter those many of Us happen to disagree with.

I supported Drone policy 6-7 yrs ago as I do today. I was not against it when Bush was there and for it now. I was just against GW Bush, Cheney, Condi Rice, etc.

              • 103 cookemom
                March 9, 2025 at 1:19 pm

good points Nena. I dont have a problem with the use of drones being discussed in the public forum at all. That is was Paul who brought it front and center, is just that he seized the moment. He latched onto something he knew would have bi-partisan attention. I mean think about it, a libertarian darling, heir to his dad’s legacy goes against the establishment Repubs, becomes a tea party favorite who hated his dad, even had Code Pink cheering him among other Dems.

You can’t tell me that it wasn’t brilliant that he parlayed all of that into a media bonanza. I didn’t get that the media was praising him and his ideology, but rather as a politician who struck while the iron was hot. He’ll be in the news til the next shiny object appears for the media.

However, behind the scenes, the Repubs continue to be in complete meltdown. They are up for grabs and it’s the Rand Pauls and the Tom Cruzes we need to keep seeing front and center, representing their party. We don’t want a moderate Repub to gain any traction. So I say, give Paul another 13 hours at the mic, to be followed by the guys from Georgia, then the next most extreme RWNJ that wants his/her turn at the mic.

                • 104 Nena20409
                  March 9, 2025 at 1:25 pm

That the media is Not pointing the disconnect and the contradictions of Rand Paul are troubling to me.

The media Hates the Drone Policy. They were not particularly ready to support Feinstein, Wyden, Sanders, etc. However, they ignored Bush’s Drone Policy for they would have been accused of Bias and lack of patriotism. In the era of pres Obama, here they Come again…..using Rand Paul to attack. Rand Paul is their Cover.

                  • 105 cookemom
                    March 9, 2025 at 1:41 pm

Oh yes, don’t get me wrong, the media will never admit their complacency in the whole Bush era war mongering wrapped in the American flag and patriotism. They also will never point out that Paul’s views on civil rights is in direct contradiction with his so-called concern with citizen’s rights on being targeted for drone strikes. However, for those of us who know this, it is up to us to spread the word. We can’t rely on the media to inform nor promote real patriotism. That is why I only have a select few in the media that I even consider credible. The others, I simply ignore and refuse to comment or post anything they say. I just smh and move on.

It slays me that many shows had Valerie Plume on their shows promoting an organization she belongs to. Not once, did any of the host seem the least bit apologetic about how they (media) covered for Cheney and Scooter on outing her, including the much heralded Tim Russert. But, I digress. Let them use Rand Paul. I can’t think of a better spokesman. Thank goodness for social media, we can enlighten using his own quotes against him. We don’t have to rely on the media to do our bidding. Would it be nice if they did their jobs? Absolutely! Will they? Probably not. If we don’t know that by now, we won’t ever know it. Time to bypass them.

I still don’t have a problem with the discussion of the use of drones. PBO is trustworthy and I’m confident he would not do anything that would alarm me. However, he won’t be President, when the drone policies and availability become more widespread. I’m not just talking about in the US, but these things may be in the hands of other countries, militant mercenaries, local authorities, even corporations….since they’re people too.

The media doesn’t hate drones, the media hates Barack Obama. This is the same that media helped Bush 43 lie the country into war with Iraq.

That’s correct. If Romney were President - there would be no talk about drones. The media instead would be fully focused on how GREAT the economy is rebounding since President Romney got elected.

They want so badly to prove that they are “fair and balanced” and that, unlike their friends at Fox, they will be critical of the Democratic President. In doing so, they often go overboard in their criticism to the point of being as fanatical as the RWNJs.

“Nope. That is not what I am saying”

But that’s what I’M saying. And it’s actually quite consistent with the rest of your post. Stake out a position and demagogue it to death as a means of getting face time on Cable TV, book deals and fund-raising. But don’t lift a finger to actually do something that will bring about the change you claim to seek.

“Their tone is what Irks me. Not their objections.”

                ^^^^^^^^^^This!

Yet, however, they still have a problem with looking at context and only focus on one issue. Is Rand Paul really that “passionate” about possible civil rights violations due to drones when the dude’s a neo-confederate with major issues with female reproductive rights?

If the left-leaning whiners had wondered about this before praising Paul, then they wouldn’t have been surprised when he turned around and pretty much admitted that he was just trolling for tea party donations. No politician will ever be 100% consistent. However, Rand Paul’s inconsistencies are too numerous to be ignored.

Once again, just because libertarianism shares the same first letters with liberalism doesn’t mean there aren’t key differences. Actually, where the two diverge is significant because while libertarians still think it’s 1789; Liberals have evolved. Liberals realized something that libertarians simply refuse to accept: Although government can’t solve every social problem; the free market can’t either.

        An the there is this:

Yes, the dead intern problem of Joe Scarborough does not seem to go away.

First, Dr. Berkland’s autopsy for the intern, did not even have an approximate time of death. That should have been mandatory. It says that the marathon
running intern had a heart arrythmia, which can only be definitively diagnosed when a person is alive. There is also a 7 1/4 inch cranial fracture, that was not revealed to the press at first, and then, was not adequately explained in the autopsy. The fractures to her head, do not seem to be explained by her fainting at her desk. There are other discrepancies, about blood flow, since her heart had supposedly stopped beating.

Second, Dr. Berkland, now an ex-Medical Examiner, because he lost his license in Florida due to massive errors in his pathology reports, is now facing six criminal charges for illegally storing body parts, and human remains, including human hearts, in formaldehyde cups and containers, in a rented, metal lo cker in Pensacola.
(Dr. Berkland, had already lost his license in Missouri, before going to Florida for the same reasons.)

All of this begs the question:
Why didn’t Joe Scarborough, who is always so demanding and assertive, demand, and make it a top priority, to require an impeccable autopsy, for such a “freak event,” as the death of a 27 year-old, healthy, female intern found dead in his office??

Below is a link to an article about Dr. Berkland’s stashing of body parts:
        http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-09-08/man-organs-storage-unit/57701534/1

Dr. Michael Berkland will be in court May 1, 2013, — to finally either accept the charges against him, or, there will be date set for Dr. Berkland to go on trial. The case number is: 2012CF004576, and information is available from the Pensacola Court at tel.# 850/595-4150. All court proceedings are a matter of public record.

sent a few tweets about need to focus on making gun manufacturers liable for their product. here is one

@VP republicans always argue that gov’t can’t pick & choose among businesses so #RevokeImmunityOfGunManufacturers & apply product liability

As was mentioned by Linda (not me) above this would require congress to over turn their law that gave gun manufacturers immunity (in senate s.397)

if anyone else is intrested in this issue, here is one suggestion of a harshtag to use

    #RevokeImmunityOfGunManufacturers

    • 138 Bobfr (@Our4thEstate)
      March 9, 2025 at 12:18 pm

As you know Linda, I’m a big fan of this approach - for many, many reasons. And, it should extend to ammo - the manufacturer, seller, purchaser and user — NOTE: the distinction for both guns and ammo - the owner/purchaser must have liability insurance as well as the USER of the gun and ammo, e.g., the father who buys the gun/ammo for the child who then fires the gun is no different, from a liability perspective in the legislative model being proposed than the parent who purchases an auto and then allows their children to drive it.

      Thank you!!!

        March 9, 2025 at 12:37 pm

True, you have been very focused on the issue of gun liability.

I wonder if congress and senate are so afraid to push (or ignore) this policy issue, can regular citizens try to do this using referundums on ballots and through the legal system?

dedicated ordinary citizens could use the model that was used for “big tobacco”

        • 140 CarolDuhart (Aquariusmoon)
          March 9, 2025 at 3:06 pm

Indeed, the whole business in guns seems eerily similar. Like tobacco, the gun manufacturers have created a massive pile of uncompensated costs. Medical bills (often the people shot are young or poor with no insurance), Lost wages, prison building costs, funeral costs, cost of rehablilitation and disability afterwards. I haven’t even mentioned the costs of trials and police work. As we made the tobacco manufacturers pay the states back for those costs, the same needs to be done with guns, where the costs are often bigger and more damaging overall.

And their business model has made once poor-but-proud communities shooting galleries so bad that only the poorest of the poor and the very elderly live in them any more. The neighborhood I grew up in is an example. This neighborhood has plenty of old homes and apartments that could be rehabbed, but people move away because of the violence. Indeed, if it wasn’t for the violence, a lot of the people would move back in cheaper housing that they inherited from grandma, there would be viable stores again, and millions would save on the costs of commuting. Their business model has emptied out the cities, filled the cemeteries, decimated generations of minority men and kept racial and class animosity high. And they are just now being called into some kind of account, let alone having to pay monetarily their fair share of the costs they created, immune from criticism because of a mistaken interpretation of the SEcond Amendment. Toxic chemical sludge creators only with they were so lucky and immune.

However, I suspect that this may not happen.

In fact, as I listen to many commentators declare the priorities that need to be addressed, I wonder why the issue of demanding celibacy is not also featuring.

At least SOME of the Cardinals who are so adamant against LGBT issues are locally known to be protecting priests who are in open relationships with women.

Mark my words, unless it is addressed, the issue of priests who abuse girls and/or women will one day be errupting. You see SOME of these Cardinals are engaged in moving offending priests from one parish to another

Truthfully, I think that’s what they want. Yes, America has elected a black man, but he’s supposed to be a hermit and let them pretend that things haven’t changed. I’ve seen this from the beginning. Remember back in 2009 when he and Michelle flew to New York for “date night”? I remember all of the squawking about that. And Michelle’s trip to Spain where she was warmly greeted by the King? And Malia’s school trip to Mexico? All of it has the same theme: how dare these black people be cultured, warmly accepted, and actually travel? A few jabs at Nancy Reagan’s china, or an occasional jab at the cost of clothes before, but never have I seen such a volume of petty criticism over a President’s lifestyle before.

And it’s not just the trips for pleasure either. Obama is supposed to just a figurehead. He shouldn’t reach out to the public and give speeches, travel for diplomacy or anything. In their view Obama should just shuffle papers, or just shuffle period.

Is it me, or do I think it’s a holdover from segregation times? Black people who traveled away from home, especially black veterans were often hassled just because they dared to show people that there were other ways to live than the segregated ways that were imposed on them.

Just many days ago, there was a post about David Gregory and the DC BW Journos…..Gregory was speaking for his colleagues and their dislike of pres Obama. That says it all.

For David Gregory to freely speak his mind, when NOT one singular utterance was said about GW Bush, even if some or many might have felt that way. That shows what this pres is up against today.

A lot of these “news” stories result from a need to fill these 24-hour cycles. So nonsense becomes news. Opinions somehow turn into facts. The rush to report it first results in half or mis-information. Makes me long for the days of the 6 o’clock news where journalists concisely reported the news without all the punditry.

Personally, I find it too boring to endure and I suspect most people are too busy living their lives to care what beltway pundits say. What he had for breakfast, Whether or not Malia is dating, When is FLOTUS going to cut her bangs, Did Bo pee on a fire hydrant. There are plenty things to blabber about the Republicans, but they simply refuse to and prefer to focus on trivialities with the President instead.

At the same time, they black him out when they should be covering him, and when it truly matters like his foreign country visits and global successes.

This will hurt and people will be angry. Our job is to direct that anger at Republicans in Congress, not at the president. The media won’t help, so it’s up to us. Today, my husband and I sent a newsletter to 500 people asking them to call the two Republican congressmen in our county and complain about the sequester. I’ve already called several times and left e-mail messages. If the phones ring enough times, they might start to take notice.

        Hi JG!
I’ve been meaning to ask you if you saw my suggestion about showing the 2 most recent weekly PBO addresses at your monthly meeting instead of (or as well as?) copying the text for them. It could be a way to kick off or wrap up the meeting. I made the suggestion last week (?) when you shared that most of the attendees were not being exposed to these informational updates. Since then, I’ve also thought that you could even add the West Wing Weekly because they summarize PBO’s agenda and performance too. Copying is a good way to bring them the info, I know, but I was thinking that if they actually ‘SEE the Pres in action’ and know that this is really happening weekly, they may be more willing to seek out those weeks when there is no meeting. Even those seniors without computer access might may a push to visit the local library, or family, to see it for themselves.

Thanks for asking VC. We haven’t had the next meeting yet and I’m still struggling with “showing” the group the president’s address because there’s no tv in the room. I’m going to print out the address at first and get people interested enough that they’ll make an effort to go on line. A lot of the “older” people have computers in their homes because of children, grandchildren, even spouses. They just don’t use the computers themselves. They keep saying “someday” they’re going to try it, but someday never comes.

Has anyone heard the rumor that Jenifer Granholm might run for the Senate in Michigan? If she does run and if Ashley Judd goes against McConnell in Kentucky, we will have one amazing mid-term election season. And what a great lineup of Dem women senators this would be. If Ashley Judd and Jenifer Granholm joined with Elizabeth Warren and all our other great women Dem senators, the amount of truth telling and fighting spirit would make the Rand Pauls and Ted Cruz’s of the Senate looked like squealing pygmies (no offense to real pygmies) I’d do everything I could to make that great day happen.

One way to deal with that kind of bad-faith opposition is to draw the person in, treat them as if they were operating in good faith, and draw them into a conversation about how they actually would solve the problem. If they have nothing, it shows. And that’s not a tactic of bipartisan Washington idealists — it’s a hard-nosed tactic of community organizers, who are acutely aware of power and conflict.

Okay. Time for an afternoon chuckle.

    Grandma Still Drives — PRICELESS

Grandma is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She writes:

    Dear Granddaughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a ‘Honk if you love Jesus’ bumper sticker.

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting.

So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy, am I glad I did! What an uplifting experience followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked, I’d never have noticed.

I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind me started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, ‘For the love of God!’

‘Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!’

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

    Everyone started honking!

I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.

I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.

Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii , so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

My grandson burst out laughing.. Why, even he was enjoying this religious experience!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!

    Will write again soon.

    Love, Grandma

He’s got 7 tweets about it - but the first 3 make it seem it was the President’s decision. He changes the tone in the later ones.
The Press are keen to eaves drop on the conversations of anyone with the President - except themselves.

But on the other side of the discussion - the devilish in me is thrilled that not even a press group wants to give access to the WHPC. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group.

The Press has NOTHING - but NOTHING with which to attack the President - so he must be doing all the bad things when they are not there. I just HATE their politics - every single day - where was the WHPC when George Bush and Colin Powell were LYING about WMDs

Oh please, Katrina can talk to the hand. She is a pain in the arse. What utter nonsense. Talk about twisting yourself into a pretzel to find some way to blame President Obama. The purists will never ever be satisfied with anything that President Obama does. For them, he is always at fault or lacking in some way. It’s required because they always have to have something to complain about. They have to keep some issue in the hopper so that the whining never ends.

On cable Katrina VandenHeuvel hems and haws and can barely get out a coherent comment. If she ever manages to say anything remotely positive about PBO there is always a BUT at end. Actually, VandenHuevel reminds me a lot of Amy Goodman of Democracy Now (she’s more coherent). “When legislators just like Rand Paul, acting in fear and rage and panic, passed the Patriot Act and the Protect America Act and a dozen other laws with secret provisions and draconian authority and have since continued to renew those very same laws, well, they gave the President those powers.”

While I agree with Hopef’s sentiment and her telling vanden Heuvel she was sharing garbage, the thought was not originally Heuvel’s. Apparently she was endorsing Garrett Epps - the AUTHOR of the article with the same name.

‘Garrett Epps, a former reporter for The Washington Post, is a novelist and legal scholar. He teaches courses in constitutional law and creative writing for law students at the University of Baltimore and lives in Washington, D.C.’

All I would add here is that Epps was undoubtedly doing a ‘creative writing’ piece.

      • 263 hopefruit2
        March 9, 2025 at 8:49 pm

I agree she endorsed, Hf, but I was clarifying for those who might not have followed the link to the article. I myself initially thought those were her words. Knowledge is power, after all….plus teamwork. ;) I don’t want anyone to take us by surprise on twitter or wherever, all because we missed a bit of info that was readily available. March 10, 2025 at 12:39 am

Sorry, VC, but we really must stop finding excuses for people like Katrina Vanden Heuvel! The thought may not have been hers but she relished it and she enthusiastically shared it on tweeter. Katrina is not only an adult, but she is also a supposedly smart savvy publisher. She knew exactly what she was doing when she sent out that tweet.

        • 267 vcprezofan2
          March 10, 2025 at 10:58 am

Hello there, Nath! Clarification: ABSOLUTELY NO INTENT to find excuses for Ms vanden Heuvel - I couldn’t care less about her! EVERY INTENT to make sure WE HAVE the full story when we push back - AS SIMPLE AS THAT! For example, it helps me when I’m wording a tweet if I know what’s behind the origin of what I’m about to say. That’s usually one reason I follow most links to the source before tweeting. I’ve tweeted about stuff once or twice without looking back and then felt foolish because I got the ‘wrong angle’ - knowing what’s what as much as is possible helps minimize this happening. That’s all! Providing a wider picture, IMO, is part of our teamwork. If we each bring different pieces of the puzzle to the table then we all will get a finished product that fits more perfectly together. I thought Hf gave a very pertinent response to Ms vanden H. I really did. In addition, having followed the link, I wanted us to be aware of the Epps character (and his creative ownership) as well.

LET’S HOPE THE REPUBLICANS CONTINUE TO MAKE A STINK ABOUT THE WHITE HOUSE TOURS.

Beltway bubble insulated from reality of sequester

    By Greg Sargent

    ———————————-

The Huffington Post has put together a terrific collection of local news coverage of the sequester’s impact around the country — and contrasted it with Washington press coverage that treats the sequester mostly as political theatrics.

Definitely go watch the first video, a montage that creates a useful contrast: As Republican officials and D.C. commentators mock the White House for canceling tours, local TV stations are talking about lost jobs, local airport closings, and eliminated funding for public health, natural disaster relief, and hunger programs. The worst offender is probably Larry Kudlow, who smugly claims that the White House tour cancellation is “bush league” — a moment that is then followed by a local newscast about the possibility of rising unemployment causing rising need for food assistance.

LH, the absolute irony of someone in the media calling the WH tour cancelling Bush League when it’s they themselves who are focusing on the most minor of details while the Sequester wreaks havoc on communities across the country. It’s Bush League to complain about the tree bark when the forest is burning. It’s Bush League to think everything that’s important in the world happens within the beltway. Local reporters around the country are rising to the challenge of reporting real news, while the DC elite media continue to be a national joke.

I was away from TOD for a few days. I’m so sorry to hear that Ms. Chips was accosted by a low life nut. All of us TODers love her and will be here for her when she returns. You are so appreciated Ms. Chips.

A small town prosecuting attorney called his first witness to the stand in a trial, a grandmotherly, elderly woman. He approached her and asked, “Mrs. Jones, do you know me?”

She responded, “Why, yes, I do know you Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a young boy. And frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a rising big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.”

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, “Mrs. Williams, do you know the defense attorney?”

She again replied, “Why, yes I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. I used to baby-sit him for his parents. And he, too, has been a real disappointment to me. He’s lazy, bigoted, he has a drinking problem. The man can’t build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the shoddiest in the entire state. Yes, I know him.”

At this point, the judge called both counselors to the bench. In a very quiet voice, he said with menace, “If either of you asks her if she knows me, you’ll be jailed for contempt!”

I washed and detailed my car today. What was I thinking? I would have been safer here on TOD! And, of course, rain is moving in. So, there is the whole story. ;)

    THIS IS HILARIOUS….

Somewhere an @emptywheel Is Missing Its Hamster: New Frontiers in Obama Derangement Syndrome UPDATE: Now with More ODS

    by Allan

    ———————————-

So it appears that right-wingers are furious that John Brennan was sworn in on a copy of the Constitution instead of on a Bible. They’re argle-bargling about this in their own fetid corner of the interwebs.

But a special subspecies of Obama-haters is laser focused not on the use of the Constitution, but specifically on the edition that was used.
    .
    .
When you focus on a symbolic nontroversy over something the Obama administration has or has not done that you believe reveals nefarious intent and/or criminal stupidity, you may be suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome.

Also: when you are taking the same side on that symbolic nontroversy as The Weekly Standard and the Moonie Washington Times, you may be suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome.

    Seek help.

    Hi TODers,
Just wanted to share this hilarious moment with ya’ll. I’m at a party and right this moment we’re doing an out of sync electric slide. Reminded me so much of FLOTUS and Jimmy Fallon.

Ok gotta go dance the night away. They have another favorite song on right now. Nite!

Though it’s Politico, it’s definitely worth clicking on the transcript of the President’s total annihilation of the beltway nut jobs (aka #NEWSTAINERS, aka MSN serfs, aka … JERKS) …

    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/president-obama-gridiron-club-dinner-speech-2013-full-text-transcript-88654_Page2.html

    Here’s just a tidbit …

“Now I’m sure that you’ve noticed that there’s somebody very special in my life who is missing tonight, somebody who has always got my back, stands with me no matter what and gives me hope no matter how dark things seem. So tonight, I want to publicly thank my rock, my foundation — thank you, Nate Silver. (Laughter.)”

#TrustBarack - He’s Earned It …. and is easily a replacement for Jay Leno if he ever wants the job :)
