Way to go UT
Congratulations Proud!
Are you on Spring Break? How do you find the time with school? My youngest is home from College until tomorrow. We have found that one week is NOT enough to spend together.
Congrats on 1st Proud.
Another EXCELLENT thread, UT!! Thank you!!!!!
Yes We Can
Congrats Proud and nice job with top section UT. Everyone is doing great. Thanks for helping Chips out.
Good morning UT. Great post. Thanks for the fanstastic pictures! You and the other “noobies” are doing a wonderful job!
Congrats Proud!
Finally, pictures, I was wondering what a guy has to do to get some pictures around here.
Ms Utal, rolling along beautifully I see!
There is absolutely no reason I should, but I feel quite puffed up with pleasure when I see how well you and your fellow Chipadees have adapted to being pushed out of the nest. Our Lady Mayor shows really good judgement and knowledge of the talents of her ‘young ‘uns’. [psst, Amk! Is this the first time you've been included with the young 'uns?]
Heh, I was a yung ‘un once.
Once upon a time …and LONG ago,

there was a young devi…..
From the previous thread, this is just too delicious to miss.
TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY: “YOU’VE MADE YOUR BED, NOW LIE IN IT.”
Sequestration NIMBYism Grips GOP
BY BRIAN BEUTLER
——————————————————
A strange sickness is afflicting congressional Republicans.
Unwilling to team up with Democrats to replace sequestration with a mix of spending cuts and tax increases, and unable to pass a cuts-only sequestration measure on their own, Republicans’ official position is that they’ve made their peace with enduring, across-the-board spending cuts in perpetuity.
But now that those cuts are creating real consequences, individual members are experiencing buyer’s remorse. The only problem is, until they change their underlying position on replacing sequestration, the only thing they can do about it is whine.
Call it sequestration NIMBYism.
———————————————-
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/03/sequestration-nimbyism-grips-gop.php
Yup, the kenyan muslin will make them own their stupidity and pay the price at the polling stations. Ironic.
Trust me Ladyhawke, this is just the beginning for the GOP. A few members are “hell-bent” on showing this President their asses, problem is, it’s going to take the entire party to write a check that they can’t possibly cash. You want to know who else was “hell-bent?” Ahab.
I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin’ “Don’t blame me”
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma’s too thin; your daddy’s too fat
Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

I love Mr. Souza pictures, specially the ones of POTUS and FLOTUS together, and I see that little kid who stole the show the day his Dad was receiving that medal. He is searching for a apple.
UT, Brilliant. Awesome Job. Wow.
Thank you
Hey, UT! You noobies are kicking it! Thanks for the great post!
Glad to read of a trustee speaking out in defense of the Freeh Report. The drumbeat from Franco Harris and a number of other trustees defending/trying to rehab JoePa, Spainer, PennState, etal has been disgusting.
Now, if they could only get the elected felon out of the gov’s chair…
They used her. They used Herman Cain and that one, forgot his name that was HNIC, Michael something, until after the election in 08. She got what she deserved and they are going to indict her for sure. That man Scott used her to curry favor to Blacks then dumped her right after. She should have known not to trust him. Watch them distnce themselves from her. Hopefully Scott will be gone soon, we can hope and pray.
The Morning Plum: The GOP’s self-defeating strategy in fiscal fight
Posted by Greg Sargent
——————————–
For all the continued chatter this morning about the sincerity and limits of presidential schmoozing, the real reason for the fiscal impasse is hiding right there in plain sight, and it can be summed up in two sentences:
1) Obama can’t sell entitlement cuts to his base, or indeed Democrats in general, without Republicans agreeing to new revenues, and has offered them a straightforward compromise — one that would anger the base on both sides — based on the premise that total victory for the GOP is not an acceptable or realistic outcome.
2) Republican leaders can’t even begin to acknowledge that Obama has offered them a real compromise, because they can’t sell their base on the idea that the President is being flexible, let alone get them to seriously entertain accepting any compromise with him, because the base sees total victory over Obama as the only acceptable outcome.
—————————-
This is an excellent analysis. Highly recommended. Much more here ….

Good post UT, but Friday is a month? Never knew that. But then, Chelsea supporter and all…
Yes, Japa of the no-name, no-worth college, “Friday is a month.” I’m riffing off Chipstick’s ‘Friday’s Good’ mantra. Ye of the short memory span.
Heads up, other noobie blog tyrants.
My thread will be auto published in another 90 minutes. (about 1 pm the blog time).
Amk….I need quick witty stories to email my 80 yr. old parents…very liberal but now sending me emails of “how it used to be”. I copy and send many of your stories to my daughter…just need funnies to send to my parents.
Here ya go.
*****
An airline captain was helping a new blonde flight attendant prepare for her first overnight trip. Upon their arrival, the captain showed the flight attendant the best place for airline personnel to eat, shop and stay overnight.
The next morning as the pilot was preparing the crew for the day’s route, he noticed the new stewardess was missing. He knew which room she was in at the hotel and called her up to ask what happened to her.
She answered the phone, crying, and said, “I can’t get out of the room!”
“You can’t get out of your room?” the captain asked. “Why not?”
She replied, “There are only three doors in here,” she sobbed, “one is the bathroom, one is the closet, and one has a sign on it that says ‘Do Not Disturb’!”
*****
As the airliner pushed back from the gate, the flight attendant gave the passengers the usual information regarding seat belts etc. Finally, she said, “Now sit back and enjoy your trip while your captain, Judith Campbell and crew take you safely to your destination.”
Joe sitting in the 8th row thought to himself, “Did I hear her right – is the captain a woman? I think I better have scotch and soda.”
When the attendants came by with drink cart, he said, “Did I understand you right? Is the captain a woman?”
“Yes,” said the attendant, “In fact, this entire crew is female.”
“My God,” said Joe, “I’d better have two scotch and sodas. I don’t know what to think of all those women up there in the cockpit.”
“That’s another thing,” said the attendant, “We no longer call it the cockpit.”
Thank you! sent to mom and dad!
We get lots of emails about how good “Things used to be too.” whenever we do, I think….yes, and millions of children were infected by polio, chickenpox, mumps, measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, and some died every year. And oh yes, there were separate drinking fountains, waiting rooms, rest rooms, restaurants, hotels for people of different races, and oh yes, people died for their rights on Alabama streets, and oh yes, poor girls used back alley butchers for abortions while rich girls were flown out of the country, and oh yes…..sorry, I am 73 and do not long for days gone by.
One thing I do wish we had kept from those times is public transportation in many cities, something the car, rubber and oil lobbyists eliminated. Where we live in Oklahoma City, there used to be a wonderful streetcar transportation system that took people all over the metro area. Now there is a very poor bus system. They buried the tracks that used to run down the main street.
However…….my nostalgia for pre antibiotic days is teeny. And oh yes…..I am rh negative….that was not discovered until WWII. I became pregnant in 1968, just six months after the blood clearing serum came on the market. So, both y children were rh positive, but the shot cleared my blood of their antibodies so I was safe to have another child safely. Do you think I would have wanted to go back to an earlier time? That problem cost my mother miscarriages and her health. SO………..
I grew up in the 50s. I remember the polio scares until the vaccine was made available. They closed the swimming pools to protect children. I grew up afraid I would spend the rest of my life enclosed in an iron lung.
That was one of my ‘boogey’ men too!
Your mom and mine both, carolyn. Miscarriages, birth defects and a mother with her health permanently shattered.
Sequestration continues to take its toll
By Steve Benen
———————————
Inside the Beltway, there’s an assumption that the sequester was a dud and that President Obama “cried wolf” when warned of damaging consequences. Outside the Beltway, the sequestration policy continues to take a real toll on the lives of real people.
At least two Indiana Head Start programs have resorted to a random drawing to determine which three-dozen preschool students will be removed from the education program for low-income families, a move officials said was necessary to limit the impact of mandatory across-the-board federal spending cuts.
Programs in Columbus and Franklin are losing two classrooms, meaning 36 children won’t be able to return after Friday.
This may not be as endlessly fascinating as the (cue scary music) cancelation of White House tours, but for those kids and their families, the argument that “no one noticed” the effects of sequestration clearly isn’t true.

oh this is very very sad. Imagine how heartbroken these children will be and what a loss to the parents. THIS is why I detest republicans.
Yes, cuts to the poor should be the big or only story.
great job ut ~ loving all the goods you ‘stand-ins’ are delivering
Good morning Ms. Chips & TOD Family. UT, great post.
Excellent ‘Rise & Shine’ LP!!! Thank you!!!
#FORWARD
Thanks Bobfr, I threw in that cartoon you and Swbluega were mentioning yesterday. Fit right in w/ the post. Much appreciated.
It’s a great ‘toon for sure, LP. Thank you!!
Paul Ryan is a fraud, I think 99% of the Republican Party is .
That last bb pic is just fab.
Did you get your WP working today? After it erased my posting 4x…….it seems to be working today.
Yup. It wiped two of mine too. Just finished the new one, triple saved it and set it to auto publish at 1300 hrs blog time since I may have hit the sack by then.
Where is the auto publish located?
In the edit page, at the top right corner, just below save draft. I discovered it myself only today.
no A.M. or P.M….?
Nope. So I used the military time.
And it refers to the blog time, not your local time.
So for 8:00 am tomorrow I would put what for EST which this blog is on?
I put @ 08 : 00 is that right…..
Notice the little whippersnapper in the lower left corner with no shoes on and striped socks. Does she look comfortable or what? Just hanging out on the floor of the Oval Office. I would like to kiss that cheek. Too cute. And the redhead little boy looks totally engrossed in the action. It’s a delightful photo. PBO is so playful.
If he is anything like me, that ball would have landed right on his head.
I imagine that there several Republicans that sit at home at night and drink themselves to sleep knowing that their party is being run by a bunch of homophobic, xenophobic know-nothings. They dare not speak out for fear of offending the most bat-shit insane faction of their party.
Beautiful pictures of our FLOTUS & POTUS. The amazingness of Pete Souza!
Thanks UT for a scrumptious feast for our eyes
I am with you hopefruit2. I think about the Vogue issue were POTUS and FLOTUS are talking about not hanging out partying with the D.C. crowd or Senators and Congress people. I for one am glad POTUS and FLOTUS does put their family first. These girls are young girls, going through those teenage years in the limelight, things in their life has been change, not because of any decision they made but because of the decision their parents made. And I am glad to hear that FLOTUS and POTUS makes sure that the girls are doing good. It can’t be easy for Malia and Sasha. I respect POTUS and FLOTUS even more for setting the example of being good parents, putting their family first. And I am sure they makes that special time for husband and wife too. Can’t be just great parents and ignore that.
Be back later, but GREAT JOB UT & TOD’s! Big shout-out to Chips for a Happy Friday.
)
Obama coming to IL tomorrow…looking forward to see what all he says.
EARLY HEADS UP SO YOU CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY: Pres. Obama will be speaking at 2:30PM ET / 1:30PM CT / 11:30PM PT about his energy plans at Argonne National Library in Lemont, IL.

Ooooooo—-I’ve been waiting for the photo of the Medal of Honor winner’s son and the apples—–ever since President Obama told on him—–amusing relating that the show-stealer tried every one till he found one that was just right.
Florida has become a 21st century mad-max inspired sun-bathed dystopia, run by gangs that only answer to the Governor.
My how I love that smile!
BO & JOE are always laughing it up when they meet. Wonder what kinda jokes they tell each other.
Beware the ides of March.
Morning Obots!
How stressed am I? I forgot that I have a performer scheduled for next Tuesday. Jesus.
I have a post ready to go once the comments on this thread reach 150-ish.
Careful, AMK has one set for about 45 minutes from now.
Just saw that! I’ll do mine a couple of hours after his.
Thanks LL.
I think us noobies should post our “intentions” right at the top of the latest thread. Easier to spot. What do you think?
Unless we don’t get to the top of the thread. I think the best thing to do is to read through the thread and see who posts first. Then coordinate that way. I should’ve read through the thread before posting.
Easier to read the top 2 or 3 posts.
I say we troll the first poster. Serves her/him right.
All I know is that I need a good stiff gimlet right about now. I can’t wait until the surgery is done and the missus is out of the danger zone.
That’s true. Take that time off for the missus. The blog is on auto-pilot now.
My best wishes to her for a safe surgery.
I got a post scheduled to through a new WP widget I found that automatically publishes if AMK ever posts anything…… It is timed for 3 minutes for him to bask in glory only to be stripped nekked….as he would say
LOLOL!! Poor amk, the abuse he suffers from us.
spoken like a true blog tyrant.
Hehee….
Thx japa for the heads up. We are still working on the noobie mistakes.
You folk are doing a great job, amk!!! Thank you.
Thank you LL!!!
Thx Bob.
So when are you taking over ? Being a bog tyrant is fun.
Yup. Listen to japa. My bomb is already tick-tocking away.
I’ll post mine a couple of hours after yours.
Calm down LL. Things will be okay. What is performer?
She’s a singer / storyteller. Wonderful performer. I just completely forgot that I had booked her. Thought I didn’t have anything until Dia de los Niños at the end of April.
Will it conflict with surgery? Hope for the best LL.
No, my regional youth services coordinator was coming in to do my Storytime anyway, so she’ll be in charge of it.
Good.
At this point, it looks like everybody in the Republican Party has been afflicted with “ROMNESIA”. It’s an epidemic.
I need that sign.
What a nice doggie!
Okay – I’m claiming FIRST for amk’s thread. And I claimed FIRST, 1st. So amk, be prepared with my award.
Love n Hugs,
Hope
LOL, hf. You’re hereby crowned the 1%er.
(I am yet to lurn how to post pics inside the thread).
Willard just sent a text letting you know that he has my back!
Oh yeah, I wonder if we can post pictures since we’re authors. Let me try.
How the White House thinks about climate change, in 7 charts
Posted by Brad Plumer on March 15, 2013 at 11:22 am
——————————————
The latest Economic Report of the President (pdf) has a whole chapter on energy and climate change that’s worth reading as a window into how the White House thinks about the topic. Here’s the basic story in chart form:

In case anyone wonders why I need the naughty mat occasionally.
The iPad is still working I see….
No, on main computer. Shopping on line to see what I need. Downloading stuff onto main computer so I don’t lose my pretty posters.
The wind has driven many crazy.
Okay
Let’s see if I can post a picture of puppies:
Ridiculously large but cute. How did you do it?
This will unlock the secrets of the img tag: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp
And, yes, ridiculously large. You can set the dimensions with the img tag as well.
Oh, they are too cute. I could outdo everybody with cute puppy photos! Not too brag, that’s unbecoming.
I could watch puppies do silly and cute things on Youtube all day. Has the opposite effect of watching cable news. Sends the blood pressure all the way down, and mood all the way up.
Yes it does. Kitties too.
Yup..same effect.
Ok, mini tyrants, we have rights to post pictures. Huzzah!
how ?
Go here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp
Even though I sort of know how to code in HTML, I keep having to brush up on the tags I don’t use often.
time to test some
bookweb lurning.[IMG]http://i47.tinypic.com/25a3j2a.jpg[/IMG]
Not quite. You don’t need to close the img tag.
Dratz. Lemme see.
Gotcha. But the size ?
See my missive below on height and width.
Why do I feel you guys are out driving Dad’s car for the first time?? These posts are hilarious.
Your timer malfunctioned, I would expect nothing less…..AMK…….worse than a Jihadi who cant even blow himself up….The disappointment must now be seeping in…..your cause is lost, what to do?
simply say fywp ? I don’t know wtf happened here?
will probably pop-up at 0100 hrs… vice 1300
just got to edit now and enter 01:15 see if it works
uugghh. Gotta click the damned blue schedule button for it to bite. Now I have set it to 13.30. Let’s see what happens.
Hope it works mine is set to 13:33 now!!!
Ha, beat to you it by 5 min.
No I set mine after yours so you post last a good 3 minutes……….
Oh Lord, the inmates REALLY DO have the keys to the asylum!
Frightening, isn’t it?
Very scarey, isn’t it?
YEAH! Summer is almost here! Health permitting, here’s part of my summer line-up…

Low Country Jazz Festival: http://www.lowcountryjazzfestival.com/
Wow, you’re going to get around!
I pray to. Haven’t hit ALL of MY festivals since 2009; been caring for family members — last year was reelecting PBO. Now that I can spare the time, my health is precarious.
Is that Red Rock?
Yes, there is a stage of course too. Went to one concert. It was gorgeous. Kids even remember it.
Forgot to add this one:
Hyatt/Newport Beach Jazz Festival: http://www.festivals.hyattconcerts.com/
Japa, I’ll say again, for a twitter noobie, you’re just killing it! Proud to follow and retweet you.
Thank you. But I am still in awe of many of the other twitterers here. We have some truly amazing people in terms of using twitter in so many positive ways. Just one other aspect of the community Chips has put together here.
Here is the section of the 2008 DC vs Heller case to stash away for future use when needed.
–
Justice Scalia’s decision in the landmark 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller, “nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.” The ruling also allows limitations on ownership of “dangerous and unusual” weapons that are not in “common use” — like, for example, assault weapons.
Both are frightening. Right wingers love red meat, although they have no clue of what this stuff means.
TED CRUZ: CONDESCENDING WITHOUT THE FACTS
Morning Joe Blasts Tea Party Darling Ted Cruz: ‘Willfully Ignorant,’ ‘Condescending,’ ‘Playing To Illiterates’
By Igor Volsky
————————–
SCARBOROUGH: Did they teach Ted Cruz to read what the Supreme Court said? Especially in the landmark, the landmark decision regarding Second Amendment rights over 200 years was written in 2008? I’m just wondering why would he use his seat on the Judiciary Committee if he went to Harvard to — to — to put forward a willfully ignorant statement about this bill violating the Second Amendment, because it does not. And Ted Cruz knows it does not. So who is he playing for? Is he playing for — for — for people who can’t read, for illiterates? I don’t understand…. When you’re condescending and you don’t even have the facts right. When you’re misstating what the Second Amendment says as interpreted by the conservative court, by Scalia. I have a problem with that.
—————————–
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/03/15/1726031/morning-joe-blasts-tea-party-darling-ted-cruz-willfully-ignorant-condescending-playing-to-illiterates/
Ok, before us mini-tyrants go crazy with the picture posting, please do use the “height” and “width” elements of the img tag. Otherwise, the pictures will be huge. Here’s amk’s picture redone with a width of 250 and a height of 200:
A bit bigger, with width 450 and height 400:
The website you showed me doesn’t explain fully how one can insert pictures in comments and provides no instruction on how to adjust height and width.
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp
How do I incorporate pictures from my computer onto the website and then post the code here on TOD with already adjusted height and width? It’s confusing.
Ok, say I wanted to insert the above picture again. The code would be this: img src=”http://i47.tinypic.com/25a3j2a.jpg” width=”500″ height=”400″, with the code bracketed by . Which would give this picture:
Now, this won’t work with pictures on your computer. You need to get the pictures uploaded to a website, or to a folder on TOD, to which we probably don’t have access.
And one more piece of advice before posting pictures: try it out at this URL first – http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_image_diffloc
You can play with the size and see what will look good, then just copy and paste the code into here.
I wonder if you noobies can create one of those permanent posts like the “blog rules” where you can post all the instructions. It will help if any of us non-noobies ever get the courage or skills or time to join you in the blog tyrant universe to have one place to get all tips and tricks. And since you noobies are scattered around the world, you’d also have one place for all your tips and tricks that get posted when one or more blog tyrants is/are asleep? Just a suggestion. It looks like you’re sharing good info, and it would be a shame to lose it in a long post.
It’s a good idea but since this is Chipsticks’s blog, she’d have to be the one to approve it and do it. I don’t want to abuse her trust. But great idea Theo!
SAY ANYTHING…..
Giving new meaning to ‘March Madness’
By Steve Benen
—————————————–
Here’s what the #3 Republican in the House had to say to Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren about the fight with President Obama over the budget:
“How can a president not want to balance the budget? How does he forget what he said? One of his first goals in the first four years was to cut the deficit in half. Now he doesn’t care. He doesn’t even produce a budget,” McCarthy told Fox News. “I’ll bet you this. I bet you he spends more time filling out his March Madness brackets than he does writing a budget.”
Now, I suspect the congressman came up with the snarky little quip about college basketball, was eager to deliver it on Fox, and didn’t give the substance of his argument a whole lot of thought.
But so long as the quote made the rounds, let’s give it a little fact check.

The President is on talking about the cuts to scientific programs and effecting jobs of the future.
Problem is, the conservatives don’t believe the Gubermint belongs in the R&D research.
Its sickening, but true.
Meanwhile, out last big invention here in America, the I phone, is made in China.
Wonderful!
