Thomas Perez’s CV is pretty impressive. Great fighter for the everyday man and woman. Wonderful choice by Pres. Obama.

HI VC, I ve been fine! Thanks for asking. I usually work late and being on the West coast I come here late. Please forgive me If I missed your greetings or your response to my comments. Today I worked half a day so I was able to catch some of the early threads. Though I am always late posting, for the record, I try to share my two cents on topics that I have an idea about. For the most part, I just love reading comments. I especially love the humor and the music shared by TOD members.

    Dear Ms Chips Chica,

How are you? I trust you saw my previous welcome home greetings/gripes? ;) ;) Are you now back in the swing of things? Inquiring mind wants to know in particular if you remember how to ..ahem…./hand over mouth; speaking quickly yet very, very softly/ …..bake. This is just a personal heads-up that this Friday will be a special Friday where your culinary skills may have to be /smallest font =/ resorted to. Better start re- locating your cook books etc.

    Thanks, VC

ps: For other members of the TOD family, this gentle reminder will give you time to plan for Friday. Please do remember that I’m not overly fond of chocolate especially if it has no nuts, nor do I think fresh flowers are practical since they die too soon. A ticket to some place I’ve never been might not come amiss (no, amk, I don’t mean to he+double l) particularly if you send someone along to take care of the luggage etc.

Annie, you don’t remember it because this has NEVER happened before. I mean, even McGrumpy, who said he would have Chuck Hagel in his cabinet (if, thank God it didn’t happen, he were elected POTUS).McGrumpy voted against Chuck Hagel as Pres Obama’s nominee for Dept of Defense.

If President Obama told them to breathe, they would vote to hold their breath.

Wow,Bob, it’s hard to believe that’s a Republican platform. What a a horrific deterioration of a once decent political party. It it weren’t such an utterly destructive force, you could almost pity the GOP for losing it’s way so miserably.

    • 103 nabsentia23
      March 19, 2013 at 10:19 am

#5 and #11 are the ones that got me. It’s hard to believe that the GOP ever supported unions or equal pay for women and in the 1950s, too! Many modern conservatives reminisce about the ’50s constantly (including those weren’t born yet). However, it was always clear that the 1950s they yearned for never existed. This old party platform confirms this even further.

Today’s GOP is the complete opposite of all of this.

  25. March 18, 2013 at 9:34 pm

    Reposting from previous thread:

The more I get to know about the despicable GOP and the industries that they promote and support, the worse it gets:

“In the fall of 2007, Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU), the coal-mining giant, spun off all its unionized mines into a new company, Patriot Coal Corp. (PCXCQ) In the process, it got rid of the promises it had made over generations to coal miners and their families.”

And in response to 99ts, this is another example where the plutocrat Rs hoodwink their less educated base by playing to their fears of “a black man in the White House.” Unfortunately they don’t realize they’ve been betrayed until its too late.

    • 133 99ts
      March 18, 2013 at 9:56 pm

They always think – it won’t happen to me – and then it does. This type of thing has also happened in my world – we now have laws where employee “entitlements” – pay, vacation pay – take precedence over other debtors – but that doesn’t extend to retirees.

Looks like the Bob Parry article that Susanne alerted all of us is gaining some exposure …

    Good!

Will keep pressing for accountability before a court of law because though Nixon, Reagan and many of their hit men are dead, they and those still alive should all be thoroughly stripped of any respect and, if alive, prosecuted. Their profound immorality and harm to humanity will only continue to be expanded, as we know GWB/Cheney and their fellow #NEOCONSTERS did by launching an illegal war on Iraq, until We the People make it impossible for crimes against humanity be committed in our name.

      • March 19, 2013 at 2:03 am

Carolyn, the election of 1968 was the first time I was old enough to vote. I had supported, in San Antonio Texas no less, RFKJr. When he was assassinated, it was obvious to all of us that Nixon had to be defeated. We had no idea the depth of criminality he was already involved regarding Vietnam but we knew he was evil to the core and the war would not end if he was elected. Tragically, he was and 27000+ US troops, countless Vietnamese, Cambodians, Thais, and others died needless deaths.

As unfathomably horrible all of that was, the fact that Nixon was not held accountable for his real crimes only enabled the emergence of all the evil the Reagan Administration spawned and those spawn were at the core of the vast damage to America and the world that the administration of George W Bush accomplished.

This legacy of lawlessness, avarice and mass murder that defines the Nixon-Reagan-GWB axis must be held accountable. Until it is, America is barely a shadow of what it could be for all humanity and for future generations of Americans.

    GOP Outreach: A History

    ———————————————————

    AP reports:

Reeling from back-to-back presidential losses and struggling to cope with the country’s changing racial and ethnic makeup, the Republican National Committee plans to spend $10 million this year to send hundreds of party workers into Hispanic, black and Asian communities to promote its brand among voters who overwhelmingly supported Democrats in 2012.
As noted earlier, RNC has made repeatedly made similar efforts for more than thirty years.

LH, as laughable as these repeated GOP efforts at Latino outreach have been, we can’t become complacent about the Latino vote. It’s going to take relentless efforts on all of our parts to cement good relationships with Latino communities. There are lots of needs that many communities have–good places to go for information and help with documents, applications and other red tape; easy access to English lessons at low cost; dependable local media that cover Latino issues and news. We can’t just continue to go ask for votes at election time without putting in the effort to understand Latino concerns throughout the year. This year is a special challenge. Off year elections have notoriously low Latino turnout, yet it’s the local offices that make such a difference in people’s lives. Helping Latino voters to see regular voting as a way to make things better for themselves is an important effort we have to keep working at.

      March 18, 2013 at 11:20 pm

Just reading this – it seems someone at the RNC has plagiarism issues

“On January 14, 2000, Mary Anne Ostrom wrote in The San Jose Mercury News:

Saying they want to bring “two-party democracy” to the Latino community, Republican leaders at their winter meeting in San Jose on Thursday announced a $10 million nationwide ad campaign to boost the GOP’s image with the fast-growing, but largely Democratic, electorate.”

They didn’t even change the money amount!!

Tuesday: In the morning, the President will meet Taoiseach Enda Kenny of Ireland in the Oval Office, and subsequently he will attend the traditional St Patrick’s Day lunch at the U.S. Capitol. During the day, the president will also greet First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Northern Ireland at the White House.

even if a party was not sincere about its intended “outreach to minorities”, for the sake of public appearance that party would not attack a nominee who happens to be from a minority group – especilly on its first day of official outreach.

a slightly bright party would at least pretend to postpone insults especially when by all accounts this nominee is very highly regarded by all minority groups the party hopes to recruit.

President Obama is so intelligent. He is so ahead of his time and such a visionary that the clowns from the enemy’s side cannot keep up with him These idiots are trying to keep up with him, second guess him, belittle him, imitate him, mock him, scorn him and he STILL out shines and out does them at every turn. Loves me some Obama.

‘ HONOLULU (AP) – A defense contractor for the U.S. Pacific Command is being charged with giving national security secrets to a 27-year-old Chinese student he was romantically involved with.

A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Honolulu says 59-year-old Benjamin Pierce Bishop sent the woman an email in last May with information on existing war plans, nuclear weapons and U.S. relations with international partners. ‘

I swear I wanna know just what special “stuff” these women have who can induce a man to do such colossally stupid, treasonous crap like that. It can’t be just the plain old regular kind. Are mean really that dumb. [Don't answer that; I know the answer.] It just can’t be! It’s one thing to ditch work to get some trim (ala Mark Sanford), but how does one get all the way to: “Oh darling, I love you so much — let me prove it to you. Here, take these war plans and diagrams of nuclear weapons.” WTF?!!

I know, right? We need a color-coded Media Stupidity Scale, similar to the Shrub’s terrorist threat level scale.

Hi Dudette – you’re on a roll this day – great tweets – I can’t believe Sandford is trying a comeback – these people so keen on free enterprise – just want to live on the government – strange that is.

        Hiya 99ts! Thanks!

I can’t believe people see Sanford as a serious candidate. Then again, it’s South Carolina — so never mind.
