That made me laugh. I was my 8th grade nun’s pet student, and she slapped me across the face once, think I mentioned once or 20 times before. She heard me talkin’ when we weren’t supposed to talk, and she heard me ’cause my desk was next to hers, because I was, as I mentioned here, her pet student!
JOB, every time I read of your “famous” slap, I thank God I went to public school. Even in the ‘olden’ days, physical contact of any sort by a teacher in a public school was absolutely verboten.
Yes, I’ve told the story of the “famous” slap so often here, it’s “famous”! Ha – pity my long-suffering friends who’ve heard it forever! Even in the ’60s when I was in high school, we had a nun (who, we learned two years later, left her order with a “nervous breakdown” – thank God) who once started punching an 11th-grade boy on the top of the head, because he was mumbling about her under his breath. These incidents were rare (my memories are only from 8th and 11th grade, and just a couple), but ya never forget ‘em. It was a different time, when if you first got a punishment in school, you then got another one at home – and, while there’s something to be said for that, resorting to hitting and punching by teachers would never be acceptable, from my POV.
At the end of the President’s term maybe you can create a book or DVD (with the proceeds going to the charity of his and the First Lady’s choice) That way you could maybe bypass some of the copywrites. Millions would love to own a copy of the entire OBAMA DIARY.
Maybe even a grant from his Presidential Library Fund could get you started. Just thinking out loud…..
Watched MSNBC Talking Hubris. It’s not a rerun. It is Chris Hayes instead of Rachel with the authors David Corn and Michael Isikoff and Alex Wagner along with Patrick Murphy (D) PA Very interesting. Have an open mind.
Yes, unfortunately, he didn’t run such a good campaign here in PA. Would have love to have been able to see him in elected office as Attorney General in PA. I hope he stays in. I wonder what his next move will be…
Isonprize, Kane had a lot of big names and money behind her and she has done a good job, so I’m glad we have her. I wish Patrick Murphy would run for Congress again. We need his strong voice and we sure could use that seat.
Wish I had seen that. Maybe it’ll be on their website?
I was looking all over YouTube a week ago for the time he and his wife and child or children were in Langhorne – probably when he announced his run – and I think he was really talking up President Obama. I originally thought PBO campaigned for Patrick, but maybe not, due to the timing.
The actual rerun of Hubris was during the Rachel hour. It was with her narrating as it was the first time. Right afterwards there was an hour discussion with Chris Hayes, the two authors of Hubris Corn and Issakoff, Chris Matthews, Alex Witt, and the former congressman that served in Iraq, Patrick Murphy. The talk was not part of the first showing of Hubris.
I thought there was a discussion after the first showing of Hubris? Maybe I just saw the authors giving interviews so much I thought there was a discussion. I bought the book, but still don’t know the ending.
I should have included a thank you for all the pics you posted – I do always think of this video when the grandbabe takes a look at me and bursts into tears – while she ogles smiles at grandpapa.
Keep it on the backburner for another thread – you have given much to look at – as Jovie notes below!
MY HEAD HURTS! Since learning this afternoon that the NRA has poison pills sprinkled throughout the CRA, I’ve been doing research. The bill is 240 pages! I’m faxing the President tomorrow, respectfully urging him to veto the bill. Those poison pills passed the Senate — either Senate Dems didn’t read the bill OR they are giving a pass to the NRA. Whichever is the case, IMHO, the CRA as passed by Congress will seriously hamstring so of the things PBO wants to do re: gun safety. I feel if the President signs the bill, rethugs will use it as a cudgel to try to portray him as insincere about gun safety. My feeling is put it on congress — veto the bill and force them to either override or send him a clean bill.
Why the NRA owns so many in the congress is beyond understanding. Public funding of elections – despite PBO did not use same – is the ONLY way to stop the incessant lobbying that impacts every government in the country.
Plus, doesn’t it keep the sequestration in place, although with some wiggle room for how certain departments can re-shuffle their reduced $? It’s an ugly piece of legislation.
Yeah, it does. I’m still reading the bill. Wish they would write these things in plain english rather than legislative language; however, if they did that, it would be more difficult for them to bamboozle us.

@PresidentPeres Thank you for being such a gracious host to President @BarackObama. Thanks also for live-stream on your Facebook page.— Alycee (@jazziz2) March 23, 2013
Thanks for posting this tweet Alycee. President Peres looked at PBO like he was his son. I think also that BiBi think more positive about PBO. He was glued to PBO in a lot of the photos.
Dear @PresidentPeres I & countless others, are moved by your warm embrace & recognition of all that is good about @BarackObama. TY! cc @vj44— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) March 23, 2013
Rest well for those about to sleep and welcome to another day of life and all it offers to those awaking or soon too do so …
I can sense the respect and friendship between POTUS and President Peres. If only the politicians over here treated our President with the same respect. You don’t have to be buddies with him, but respect the fact that he is President of the United States.
Might I add, I am so thankful to the Welcome the people of Israel gave to our President. If we had listen to Chuck “GOP” Todd you would think everyone hated POTUS.

PETRA, Jordan—President Barack Obama played Middle East tourist on Saturday, touring ancient ruins here on the final day of his four-day trip to the region.
After flying in by helicopter from Amman, Obama toured the deep sandstone canyons and archaelogical sites which date back more than two millenia and draw more visitors than any other touring site in Jordan.
Many of the most impressive sights Obama took in date to the Nabataean civilization, which had Petra as its capital as early as the 4th century B.C. The president saw a building known as the Treasury, which may have contained tombs, as well as a massive ancient theater—both of which look Greek in style.
“This is pretty spectacular,” the president said, as he looked up at the rock faces rising high above him, according to a pool report. “It’s amazing,” he said, to the sound of cameras clicking. “Spectacular.”
Some of the ruins look like sets for an Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider film. Reporters and photographers covering Obama’s visit were carried out of the complex by horse drawn carts, according to a pool report.
Obama was scheduled to chopper back to Amman later Saturday to get aboard Air Force One for his flight home to Washington.
It’s Saturday morning and I’m back! Obviously I’m no wiser as I’m signing in before even lifting a finger to do any chores and I KNOW I have signing off procrastination issues.
Question for Amk – would you please remind me how to open a 3rd browser (2nd instance of IE) so that I can have more than two feeds going on my laptop? [I want to do some memory lane #ACA anniversary tweets today while keeping tabs on you all. ] Thanks.
GM, Utal. Thank you. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve been trying to find ‘File’ since you answered and the ‘file’ I found in my current IE browser doesn’t give me the options mentioned. Be patient – I think I’m like the turtle even with simple technology.
Utal, ‘techie’ stuff that seems so easy/simple to you agile brains just seem immeasurably complex to moi. Don’t ask me why – they do. I still periodically try to post a twitpic, following Lovely Plains’ initial instruction and have had NO success. Now I know it’s not the instructions because LP has had other students after me who have graduated and gone on to win awards, so it’s ME. Sigh! Having said that, inspired by all you Chipadees, I’ve made a New Year March resolution to master this posting and blogging thing if it takes me all of 2013!
I have posted below the screen grab of my browser page. See the 2nd row at the top. That’s multiple tab browsing in firefox. You just switch from one webpage to the next without ever leaving the window.
Thanks. See the time on this entry? That’s how long I’ve been fiddling around with this and the light bulb hasn’t been lit YET. Sigh! I got two Firefox tabs going though they are not on the same ‘page’ like your sample; OTH I am unable to pin them separately to the bar which is what I want to be able to do. I’ve taken enough of your time for today. I’ll try again tomorrow. [I'm sure you have had enough trying to teach this challenged student, at least for today. The very thought of picking this up tomorrow with this same student will probably give you nightmares all night. ]
I use Firefox, you impatient tyrant. I keep it exclusively for my main TOD page. That’s where I speak to you guys and listen to you rant. That’s where I have been having this convo. I keep IE for my jaunts to different sites or for when PBO, FLOTUS, etc are speaking and I want to watch while still dialoguing in TOD village. I had a second IE browser open yesterday (the one I use for twitter, while still keeping my line to TOD free) but I ‘touched the wrong button’, lost it and can’t figure out how I had stumbled onto it in the first place. Now that you posted that Firefox linky I have a vague memory that might have been how. So, where’s the IE linky?
vc – if you are using firefox – at the top of the screen where it says “Barack with babies/The Obama Diary” – there should be a + sign next to that on a tiny tab. Click on that + and you have a new tab open – where you can visit another web address
You will then have two tabs – one with this thread – and one with the main TOD page
Notice you still have the + in a little tab – you can always click that to get a 3rd tab – or 4th etc On the screen shot from amk – the + would be to the right – off the page as shown. To change to each tab just click on them.
A tab is the same as a window – except they all show across the top of the screen – I find them easier than new windows
Yes it made sense and I followed it easily, 99ts. Probably due to the softening up of my brains that the prep work by the others accomplished! Also, I have now resigned myself to having different tabs versus different windows. Now, how many hours did THAT take? Thanks to all of the ‘teachers’ who took on the task.
I hated the tabs when they first came into existence – my husband ranted at me that they were much easier/better to use than windows – it took awhile for me to agree – but now I like having all the tabs – one click to a website – hope you also find it useful & easy to use.
The TOD people have been so patient teaching me about the WP options – that is taking me forever to understand!
Oh yes I’m warming up to them, 99. Have used the concept all day today in fact. Now I’m looking for another patient teacher to outline the twitpic process in a way my brain can follow. As i said somewhere, learning this stuff is now my ‘New March’ resolution.
I don’t do twitter – I worry that I would say something in haste – and regret thereafter – but I’m sure you will sort it – lots of good teachers around.
Always makes me smile too VC. I would love to see a remake of this show or at least reruns in syndication. I wonder who could take on the Art Linkletter/Bill Cosby role?
Ok, I don’t get how 33 percent could have a favorable view of this fiasco called the Republican party. That is a whole of whackadoodles in this country who think far right extremism is acceptable for a major political party. Please, please, please let those 58 percent come out in 2013 and 2014 and make the GOP a marginal party until it manages to shape up and enter the 21rst century. We’ve got a whole lot of outreach and GOTV ahead of us.
Congress as a whole have approval numbers below a contagious disease and yet you have career congress critters into two digit terms. People vote like sheep and the rw sheep (which I strongly believe is close to 50% than the 33% or dubya’s 27%ers etc) are more obedient.
Living in a country with more sheep than peoples – it is well known that sheep are dumber than most other animals – they will follow each other over the proverbial cliff – which is why they are relatively easy to bring in for shearing. The comparison between RW and sheep seems reasonable. As for the 50% – having a black President probably makes that % higher than sanity would imply it should be.
GM TODobots! I wanted to start my #ACA ‘party’ in the Rise and Shine thread but got impatient, so here I go before heading off to feed my face for the first time today.

Beautiful post, amk! Just lovely.

Watched MSNBC Talking Hubris. It’s not a rerun. It is Chris Hayes instead of Rachel with the authors David Corn and Michael Isikoff and Alex Wagner along with Patrick Murphy (D) PA Very interesting. Have an open mind.
Love Patrick Murphy! Big President Obama supporter.
Yes, unfortunately, he didn’t run such a good campaign here in PA. Would have love to have been able to see him in elected office as Attorney General in PA. I hope he stays in. I wonder what his next move will be…
He’s an MSNBC contributor, now, but I’ll separate him from that pack and say he’s one of the best!

Patrick gave a “Come to Jesus” moment at the end. I was so mad at self for not recording it. MSNBC didn’t rerun, they had lock-up.

Using multiple browsers sucks up your ‘puter resources and speed. One browser window with tabs is the optimal way.
That explains why things sometimes take so long to load – example when I’m trying to arrive first at the TODvillage door.

How much stock do you own in Firefox???
It’s my off-shore, tax dodging company.
Amk’s Kids Say the Darndest Things reminded me of the Art Linkletter Show. Here is one of the Bill Cosby versions.
(Hope this link works)

Or maybe this will work:
That made me smile, SW. Thanks. Kemett sure seemed confident enough not to be put off by that large audience; wonder what he’s been doing since?
Always makes me smile too VC. I would love to see a remake of this show or at least reruns in syndication. I wonder who could take on the Art Linkletter/Bill Cosby role?
I’d vote for the reruns. I’m hesitant to imagine what we’d get from the current overexposed, overly precocious younger generation.
Yeah, I thought about that….not quite the innocence level any more that we used to see with young children.
I don’t get how they keep winning states/districts if only 33% approve of them – seems people vote for them despite not having a favorable view.
Just like the Republicans in Congress voting for legislation they don’t like, always a bloc.
I am with you jackie, who is the 33% that approval of them, and why?
GM TODobots! I wanted to start my #ACA ‘party’ in the Rise and Shine thread but got impatient, so here I go before heading off to feed my face for the first time today.
Good morning one and all at TOD And it Is a Good Morning.
Sipping coffee I pick up my NY Times from my doorstep and there it is: Drum roll please…..

It’s online if you can access it – I’m having the odd issue today
PETRA, Jordan — President Barack Obama marveled at the sights of Jordan’s ancient city of Petra on Saturday as he wrapped up a four-day Middle East tour… Shifting into sightseeing mode on Saturday, Obama flew by helicopter to Petra and took a walking tour of the restored ruins of a city more than 2,000 years old which is half-carved into sandstone cliffs.
“This is pretty spectacular,” the president, wearing sunglasses, khaki trousers and a dark jacket, said as he craned his neck to look up at the Treasury, a towering rose-red façade cut into a mountain. “It’s amazing.” http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/23/17427241-amazing-obama-turns-tourist-in-ancient-city-of-petra
