UTAL, your posts are really great to read, and I am so pleased you capable ones are still helping Chipsticks, we can’t let anything happen to her, and with easing her workload, she should be around for a long long long long long long long time…. whew.

I won’t be here long: quick update: better each day, less pain, still somewhat immobilized, have been told not to expect ‘normalcy’ until the end of the first week of May. Family are pitching in, bless them. Sometimes I guess, all you have to do is ASK! Novel idea, eh?
Heading off to rest now that morning chores are done. Everyone, have a wonderful Easter, if you celebrate that, and Passover is having marvelous weather out here.

      http://myde.st/13hxNJi Will return eventually…. Hugs all around! {{{{{{{Chipsticks}}}}}}} {{{{{PBO}}}}} {{{{TOD}}}}

I am learning that now, 57! I must have forgotten, in all the years it is ME helping others, I may have left off how to let them help me back! How silly!! :)

It’s hard to ask. But you are actually helping your friends and family karmically. I’m especially sensitive to this today, since I have a ‘friend’ whose parents have done everything for him and his children, and he’s finding an excuse to go on vacation after finding out his father has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. And they go on a dozen vacations a year. I’m furious at this ‘religious’ guy, who can’t help his parents when they need him. hasn’t even sat in on meetings with doctors. His parents told him to go, they were ‘fine’. And then I read your post. He’s a sociopath, raising his children to be sociopaths by not knowing what is kind and decent behavior to those you love. Okay, off my soap box now. Sending you a ‘virtual’ helping hand, my friend!

      • March 29, 2013 at 2:33 pm

Easter tradition…your kids plant jelly beans, and when they wake up in the morning, lollipops have “grown” where the jelly beans were planted. If you don’t have a yard, it’s too cold to hang outside or just because: use a flowerpot full of soil inside instead. Would still be just as magical to wake to a pot full of lollies. Love this idea!!!

Right! And behind closed doors those motherfuckers beg Vice President Biden to ask President Obama for money, just like that fucker Paul Ryan. He didn’t want gubmint money, until it was discovered that he begged for gubmint money.

This pisses me off to no end, the utter and shameless hypocrisy. To beg for money just to keep your state afloat, and then bad-mouth the only person that gives a damn about the citizens of your state.

You are not alone, Don! GOP hypocrisy stinks to the high heavens! I still put a great deal of blame on the U.S. media. They (the media) enable the Republicans by failing to accurately inform the American people about Republican shenanigans.

Even in begging for their state they show their selfishness – I’m convinced their intent is more to protect votes for themselves than in any real care for their constituents.

Bob, the letter you wrote to the President on gun control on March 25th and posted here was so good. May I borrow it in full or modify it for my reps? Have a great day and week-end.

THE GOP MINORITY OUTREACH TRAIN WRECK

Republicans Who Have Condemned Don Young For Saying ‘Wetbacks’

    ————————————

Rep. Don Young’s (R-AK) casual characterization of migrant workers as “wetbacks” came at a time when the Republican Party is trying desperately to improve its beleaguered image among minority communities, prompting a number of individuals on the right to condemn the longtime Alaska congressman.

I will begin to take their pretentious conversion seriously when they have collectively apologized for all their Birtherism, racists comments against pres Obama. Then I consider their frankness on this apology malarkey demand on Don Young. Let them keep talking. By their words and deeds, we see them, hear them and know them.

    • March 29, 2013 at 3:07 pm

    A PLETHORA OF ETHNIC SLURS

GOP congressman uses anti-Latino racial slur

    By Steve Benen

    ————————-

    And it’s not just Young.

The Alaska congressman’s comments coincide with another Republican congressman, Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) made inappropriate remarks about Native Americans, for which he apologized.

It also comes on the heels of Republicans using disturbing anti-gay rhetoric; a South Carolina lawmaker saying, “It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now”; Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) comparing Middle Eastern men to monkeys; a Republican mega-donor saying voters in “center cities” don’t count; and Sarah Palin resorting to “shuck and jive” references.

And don’t even get me started about Republicans talking about women.
    .
    .
But Young’s comments, coupled with all of the other offensive remarks from other Republicans in recent weeks and months, points to a party with a serious and systemic problem.

Wow, LH, this is a party that’s seriously off the rails. The whole racist underbelly is being exposed in all it’s ugly self. Wonder if McCain ever thinks about the fact that Jesus was a Middle Eastern man who was probably swarthy and semitic looking. Every time these people open their mouths they define themselves as the party of older, racist, narrow-minded and very angry white men. They are truly vile and belong on the extreme fringes of American society–not in a so-called mainstream political party.

      Thanks for posting, Chips!

Love the part where he scrunches a bit to make sure that the people behind him are in the picture.

Been thinking about what “charisma” is lately, and I think it’s a combination of elegance and humility (plus more, of course). Psychology Today published a article on charisma a few years ago, noting Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck had that indefinable quality (so hard to believe that Roman Holiday was her debut. Such a classic movie.).

Then think back to GW Bush on the rope line wiping his sweaty hand on Bill Clinton’s shirt.

      Ugh.

      Thank God for President Obama.

Well, Arapaho, there one thing that Gregory Peck and Barack Obama have in common–they were both tall, slim, beautiful men with wonderful voices and you could never get tired of seeing or hearing either one of them.

    [Juanita Jean!]:

So when a Republican politician eats stolen cashew nuts, is that cannibalism?

“Dale Peterson, an Alabama Republican state official famous for flaunting his rifle in campaign ads promising to be tough on crime, was arrested Wednesday and charged with shoplifting a can of cashews. The arrest, first reported by Yellowhammer.com, marked the second time in six months that Peterson has been accused of stealing.

“His new arrest occurred at a Sam’s Club, where police said employees watched Peterson eat a can of cashews in the store, then place the empty can back on a shelf. Store security guards confronted Peterson on his way out. He was released from custody after posting $1,000 bond.”

Peterson then took to Twitter to announce that it all was a giant conspiracy.

This seems to be typical of today’s Republicans. They can’t follow the rules, obey the law, respect other people’s rights. They lie, cheat and steal. And they are always the victim. A really unsavoury bunch.

    • March 29, 2013 at 3:29 pm

      Expensive cashews.

    [More Juanita Jean!]:

Just in case you thought that Louie Gohmert and Ted Cruz were riding in a two-seater clown car, along comes Senator John Cornyn of Texas who knows for a fact that French and Chinese people are coming across the border, and they probably have intent to cook food and criticize our wine.

“You gotta stop the flow of people coming across and my friends and your friends Edd who have places in South Texas tell me, as a matter a fact a guy told me last night, he said we’ve got people coming across our place speaking Chinese, French and basically all of the languages in the world, coming through and across our southern border,” Cornyn said during an interview on KSEV.”

    /////

We haven’t even touched on the questions I have about whether there is even “a guy” or Cornyn has hit the tequila again.

      March 29, 2013 at 6:41 pm

I think Senator John Cornyn is trying to appease Latinos/Hispanics to cover-up his opposition to meaningful immigration reform. So now it’s not about Mexicans and other Hispanics from Central and South America that he is afraid of. It’s the French and the Chinese. Poor French people! I don’t remember exactly when they lost their membership in the caucasian race. Did their loss begin with France’s opposition to the dumb and illegal war on Iraq, or did it occur much earlier? By the way, isn’t “Louie Gohmert” and Wayne “LaPierre” french names?

Thanks for playing Mr. Carson; you can pick up your consolation prize on the way out. The only thing Ben Carson had to do was to go on MSNBC and give a few shout-outs to a couple of Republicans and smile. But no, this motherfucker couldn’t even do that, and now on Friday, a day which is usually a day to dump unwanted news, this fucker goes out and makes news. As soon as Carson gets back to the Republican hideout somebody needs to pimp-slap his ass.

  25. March 29, 2013 at 3:39 pm

On Good Friday, I thought I’d share something Jon Meacham said on Morning Joe this morning. (I’m not religious, and the only time I’ve stepped foot in a Catholic church is for weddings, so I don’t know if this is true or not.)

He said the origin of celibate priests was unrelated to religious beliefs. Instead it was a rebellion against hereditary monarchies (no obvious papal heirs).

If this is true, then the Catholic church would be doing their clergy and members a favor in revisited their insistence on celibate priests.

    • March 29, 2013 at 3:40 pm

      “revisiting” not revisited

      • 140 Nena20409
        March 29, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Priests, Bishops, Monsignors, Cardinals, Popes as they passed away were leaving the Gold, and other goodies to their families, leaving the Churches and parishes penniless.

That was also a contributing factor.

    • 141 57andfemale
      March 29, 2013 at 3:59 pm

Yup. But only partially true. Not just hereditary monarchies, but heredity in general. They didn’t want riches/property, etc. to be passed to heirs and not to the Church.

HAppened around 1000 A.D., I believe. So half of the existence of the Church allowed for marriage for priests.

There were, of course, always celibate orders but it was not across the board.
