Hello back, Chips. I stopped writing for a while because I was so disheartened by the sequester, but I never stopped enjoying your info-filled and delicious posts about POTUS, FLOTUS and the family we all love.
Thanks, too, to lovelyplains, AMk and utliberal, what a team of helpers!
In the last few days it seems that the horrifying hardship the sequester has brought has been getting more press. So I am a bit more hopeful.
Plus, the Clintonblast has raised my hackles. Apparently lots of us here agree.
good day everyone.
Unbelieveably fantastic Chips. That should get “Tweet of the Month”..no “Year”…no “Ever” Award.
I am now retiring from Tweetdom. Nothing I can do will ever be one one thousandth as good as that. I am going to hang my head in shame and go into a corner.
Japa, my saintliness didn’t last too long – I reverted to baaaaaaaad, a more comfortable condition for me!
If you retire from Tweetdom, I’ll hunt ya down and drag ya back!!!
I had just finished admiring your saintly picture in the last thread, when you reverted to true form. Looks better on you, anyway! :)
Oh Theo, saintliness is hard.
I’ve given up even pretending…
And I am working on that now….. Whew…
LOL!! And yet so true.
Good work. Glad you got the head proportions right!
I think I need to brush up on my photo-fiddling skills just a bit, Alycee!
Hey, you did a much better job than I could have done!
Just one more, then retiring

Proving the GOP public position is a charade….privately they are saying they are open to 200-300 billion in additional revenues, which would be close to the 1 Trillion Boehner agreed to in January, but couldn’t deliver. Sad thing is the media just runs w/ GOP talking points so blatantly….and Cantor had a not-so-Freudian slip and gave away facade they had been playing up.

Gay reporter at KSTP-TV fired after colleague forgets to take "big HOMO dads" joke line out of story. bit.ly/ZBSPdg— Romenesko (@romenesko) April 04, 2013
I don’t get this. So, the gay reporter was fired because someone else made a joke about gay dads? Isn’t that illegal?
The gay reporter was supposed to interview 2 Dads going to the WH Easter egg roll but could not make it to the interview…….he forwarded some info to a colleague and wrote a joke headline for laughs internally that she forgot to remove in the story, and he got fired b/c she left it in by accident.
No accident; upward mobility.
Didn’t we go through the Hillary is inevitable, Hillary will beat any Republican…blah,blah,blah…..in 2006 to middle 2008? We’ve been down this road before. I think she will run only if there are no primary opponents. She’s been there before, and didn’t come out too well. By pushing her this early, most of the American public will be tired of her by 2015, when it kind of begins to count. She means nothing to the young people who voted for Obama, and many people are as tired of the Clinton name as there are people tired of the Bush name. I think the Clintonistas are doing this publicity and pushing way too soon. They should keep totally quiet until and if she announces. What they are trying to do I figure, is make it too hard for her not to do it. When have you known Carville and Rendell to do the right thing for their cause??? I firmly believe they are doing her no favors. People will be clamoring for someone new by 2015.
I’m not at all sure she’ll run. What if she would lose??? That is not how she wants to be remembered, and in spite of all the polls right now, which mean nothing, no win is guaranteed in American politics. She’s on top right now; anything she does like running for office will diminish her legacy. But then……..I think after four years of John Kerry as SOS, her legacy might not look quite as stellar, aside from the million miles she traveled. Kerry is working hard, and I believe will bring some good things to fruition.
Well stated, Carolyn. And, very accurate.
Anyone distracting Americans from the absolute necessity to take back the House and expand Ds in the Senate is doing the majority of Americans serious harm. I have zero tolerance for such people – they are aiding and abetting the GOP domestic terrorists.
You said it, Carolyn. I’m already sick of hearing about the Clintons, especially when the current President isn’t getting his due. Kerry’s been on the job for a month, and he’s already doing wonders. If they carry on like this, without even knowing what her platform is, then they will doom her to defeat before she even starts. Many of the things the emoprogs criticized President Obama about – Hillary is to the right of the President!
I a still voting for whoever the democrat is, and will probably do it by mail. :)
Any Democrat will be better than any Republican – but we need to have our eyes open, to manage expectations. Hillary will advance Democratic causes, but in a rather conservative way – and will have several hurdles to manage with her husband and all the ammunition the GOP have against them. There are so many really good potential Democratic candidates for President, who would be more effective and more liberal, in my opinion.
I think the reason they say this is because she gets the vast majority of democrats and the Reagan democrats will vote for her.
Reagan democrats have not voted for a Democrat for a generation.
I don’t like the Hillary is inevitable either crap, but whoever the democrat is in 2016, that’s who I am voting for.
I can’t stand Republicans, I think a republican in the WH would repeal Obamacare in the first week. Then, Dodd/Frank would be repealed in the second week. Also, The Car CAFE standards would be reversed, etc.
I too will vote for whomever the Democrats nominate for the reasons you listed plus many others. What I’m worried about is this too early pushing will wear out the voters. We need a respite and as Bob said, we need, and those supporters of hers, need to concentrate on the House and Senate and obviously state legislators and governorships in 2014! If she is elected and has the same kind of Congress President Obama has…..it won’t be pretty.
This is why I’m so glad the President is raising money for the DCCC and the DNC….and whatever other good organization needs him. Which is why I am now donating to the Demo Govs Ass’n. I would certainly prefer someone who did not vote to enter Iraq, but we don’t always get our druthers.
Carolyn, I think you are 100% right that the Clintonarama we are being subjected to is a big mistake.
Maybe Hilary just can’t resist trying to grab the cameras, or maybe it is to pump up her speaking fees. Who knows?
Whatever it is it isn’t helpful to the President and his agenda.
At the very least it is disrespectful.
Co-sign 100%. Can we just let President Obama finish is 2nd term legacy before focusing on 2016. It feels very disrespectful to the man holding the office right now.
Like everyone below, do agree that this is a distraction from an inept GOP House and 2014.
In a good way, it’s good that PBO and his administration and ahead of the media. :)

Irony: When an 08 Clinton supporter says the man who made her SoS, helped retire her campaign debt and left a surplus, owes her everything.— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) April 04, 2013
Those 08 supporters are indeed stupid and deluded. President Obama owes Hillary NOTHING!!! She owes him EVERYTHING!!! If not for him, she would still be struggling away in the Senate, embroiled in petty squabbles. He raised her up to where she is now a rock star! Do they not remember the big hullabaloo when he appointed her??? I hope she is smarter and has more integrity than her loudmouth supporters. We’ll see.
These Hillary supporters could do us all a favor and wait until Jan 2015 to start this stuff. The only reason Bill Clinton has been popular is because we only see him once or twice a year with his global initiative, and Hillary has been popular because she has been SOS and out of politics. Too much of the Clintons now is too much.We will all be sick of them by 2016. I am already tired of hearing about them. Also, these Clintonites are not doing Hillary any favors, they think we are stupid and will believe their re-writing Bill Clinton’s history and are already insulting us because the seem to think the only way to get support for Hillary is by attacking PBO. This wont end well. What we need to be doing, is focusing on 2014 and only 2014 right now.
All of this.
Integrity is an important quality that our President has. I do not think that Hillary possesses that same quality based on her primary run last time. She has her own aura and fits the typical politician role. During her primary run my son and his company were stiffed money her campaign owed them for services rendered. He is in setting up for events such as concerts, workshops, seminars, political events and fashion shows to name a few things. Other companies experienced a similar problem with her campaign while they were paid promptly by Obama’s whether that comes under integrity, poor management or bad choice of those representing you, I am not sure. What I do believe is our current President is irreplaceable. I will vote Dem due to not wanting our Country to suffer with GOP ideas. I surely will not be as devoted or excited.
Barack Obama is indeed irreplaceable. It will take a generation at least before we see such a combination of integrity, unselfishness, wisdom and determination, and calm under fire. Brains, heart and soul. And style on the top of it !
As far as integrity and unselfishness goes, my choices would be Elisabeth Warren or Joe Biden. Or John Kerry or Governor O’Malley. But the job is so insanely difficult and demanding, intellectually, physically and emotionally, that finding the candidate who can deal with everything is not easy. So I could accept a more traditional politician like Hillary or some other. As long as she/he crushes the republicans, and continues towards progress.
Co-sign. Nerdy is spot-on.
I got home from errands, flipped on msnbc, and everybody is praising Andrea Mitchel for her Show of five years.
For me, it has been five years of pure HELL listening to her.
Last night on Hardball she made sure she mentioned MORE THAN ONCE that Hillary had policy disputes with PBO , but kept them to herself .
Well, we’re seeing a pattern developing, and it’s pretty sad.
Hillary supporters should not underestimate how much President Obama is loved by the most active base (I’m not the emos who constantly whine on blogs, but of the people who get involved in the grassroots, the whole OFA apparatus, etc.) .
It’s inevitable to see some PUMAS reappearing. But the professional entourage of the Clintons and their allies in the media should know better, and be very very careful not to undermine her.

Just a quick comment. I think it is important to differentiate between Hillary and her misguided supporters. She has not indicated in any way, shape or form that she is planning on running. She has proven herself extremely loyal to PBO, even when they had some major policy differences (bin Laden, Syria to name a couple).
And also, if she runs in 2016 and wins the nomination, she will have my full support as well as PBO’s.
It is her supporters that drive me nuts. Now,next year around this time, I can see a little more movement in that direction, but not now. I am sure she would say, “Hey, let’s focus on the here and now and what needs to be accomplished today.” I am sure PBO would say, “Let’s not get into an intra-party squabble.”
In fact, it wouldn’t surprose me to see her and PBO, as well as Biden and PBO make some joint appearances for Congressional candidates next year.
All I am saying is, go ahead and get angry at the supporters, but let’s not cross the line into going after her. Remember, in 2008, once the nomination was decided, she came out fully in support of PBO. She asked her supporters to do the same. Not all did and it is those dead enders from 2008 that are making the noise now.
And Her supporters are instigators. :(
Japa21, are you watching me? You expressed my sentiments exactly. Glad I refreshed before posting. :)
Japa, I have a great deal of respect for you, but I’m going to hold off on anointing Hillary the next President. The same way Barack Obama had to earn my vote; Hillary has to earn my vote. This shit feels like 2008 all over again, with Bill Clinton in the background stabbing candidate Obama in the back every chance he could. Even after President Obama “Gave” Hillary the SOS job, Bill still didn’t show President Obama the proper respect. I do not trust these people at all.
I will be very impressed if Hillary openly supports some Dem candidates for governorships, House and Senate who could benefit by her support. Also, if her supporters would work for these midterm elections. If they do this kind of work, 2016 will take care of itself in a healthy way.
If she is truly interested in running in 2016, you will see her out there. And if her supporters are at all smart (which is debatable) they will work their asses off to win Dem seats in 2014.
And one other thing. It is reality, unfortuantely, that in this era, camapigning does have to start way too early.
I will be impressed if Hillary and Bill Clinton publicly called on their supporters to stop the 2016 presidential talk and instead focus on putting pressure on Congress to enact gun control legislation, Immigration reform and the repeal of sequester. As far as I am concerned, their silence about the 2016 Hillary obsession implies consent.
I am not anointing her, nior am I necessarily going to vote for her in the promary. That will depend on who is also running. All I am saying is she is not dissing the President and we should take our anger at some of her stupid supporters out on her. IF she wins the nomination, she will have my support.
And I will never forget Bill Clinton telling Edward Kennedy that back in the day someone like Barack Obama would be serving them coffee.
Bill is from Arkansas and it’s just part of him….he can’t change. I don’t believe Hillary is like that. Hillary and Barack are friends and it shows.
I hope you’re right, Japa – but I’m not holding my breath. It seems the Clinton group aren’t that politically savvy. If they were, they’d reject all these awards that they don’t deserve, and they would tamp down the enthusiasm at this stage, showing respect to the President. The fact that Clinton even allowed Chris Matthews to once label him “President of the World”, while a Democrat was in office – but not while a Republican was in office for the eight disastrous years before that… tells me a lot about this bunch. What will happen if President Obama opts out of supporting a Democrat until after the primary? How will the Clinton crowd react to that? What names will they call him then? And what if he chooses to support his Vice President, who has worked hard for him, has had a stellar career and a long list of life-changing accomplishment – and has shown enormous loyalty to President Obama – and has sat right next to him through every single harrowing crisis during this Presidency??
I don’t like what I’m seeing from the Clintons and their supporters, and the complete lack of effort to quell the tide of Clinton-love, before she’s even announced her intentions. The fact that there are plenty of potential candidates out there who might be scared off, who could possibly have a better chance at winning… It’s selfish. If she wins the nomination – I’ll support her. But, until then, I’m just shaking my head at what I’m seeing – from her, her husband and their supporters. Those are the same people (and the same thinking) they’ll take back to the White House with them.
The kids want their shirt sign by FLOTUS. This is something they have been doing each year. I think.

This is about the psyche of the Clintons. They are trying to fight the same demons that John McCain is fighting. John McCain never left Vietnam, just as the Clintons have not gotten over losing to President Obama. If you really think about it, the Clintons are out at this very moment running a campaign for the Presidency while a Democratic President is in office. They have no regard for what President Obama is doing, if they did they wouldn’t be out so prominently while he’s dealing with the sequester, North Korea, and the gun debate. If they truly gave a damn about President Obama they would act as allies and not a bunch of game show contestants looking for the big prize.

Ms. Chips, how are you darling?
This morning an AA woman called into Stephanie Miller’s show and attempted to tell her that many in the AA community were not pleased with Glaad giving Clinton (of DADT and DOMA fame) the award. Stephanie blew her off and said something like “oh lets not fight”. Evidently blowing off and dissing President Obama is no big deal to some people. I’m happy that you don’t let these issues slide, because there have a whole hell of lot of them.
I was listening to that call this morning and basically, Stephanie and one of the guys on the show said Clinton did that so the GOP would not put it in a bill and vote on it, the GOP had the numbers to over ride a veto and it would have been a law harder to overturn. It was Clinton’s compromise that when he did it that was OK. When PBO compromises, he’s a sell out. You just can’t please these people. Yesterday all I heard was how better things would be by now if Hillary were President and how they would not vote for Biden. It was real sickening yesterday listening to the so-called “progressives”.
Right, and I’m supposed to dummy up about all of the Clinton’s bullshit towards President Obama and I’m supposed to kiss GLAAD’s ass because they are giving an award to Bill Clinton. Fuck that!
Even if Clinton did compromise on DADT what about DOMA? These same people wanted to tear PBO a new one because he wouldn’t write an EO to repeal DADT. They couldn’t get it through their thick skulls that an EO could be overturned by the next President and the only way to make it a permanent repeal was through Congress. If they want to give Clinton an award for “compromising” fine. But they certainly should give PBO an award for getting it REPEALED and NOT defending DOMA.
I find it hard to believe that progressives would call in and praise Hillary over Barack Obama or Joe Biden. Just read “The Orange” for a while and there’s is no worshipping of the Clintons.
Either these people calling are PUMAS, or republicans operatives paid to start some trouble.
Reminds me of 2011, when there was a period of intense chatting about President Obama dissing Joe Biden and putting Hillary on the ticket for 2012. “He wouldn’t have the choice”, etc… You just had the sense that there was some coordination at work…
There will be a lot of things swept under the carpet over the next three years as they try to rehabilitate the Clinton candidacy – even at the expense of President Obama’s legacy and reality.
Just now I saw the piece by Walter Cronkite on Dr King’s assassination.
What I still remember was part of the speech in Memphis on the evening of the 3rd, where he compared his lot to that of Moses: “I might not get there with you, but you will get to the promised land”.
Which is amazing, because at 11 years old, I didn’t have any formal education in the English language – it was just that the Dutch subtitles in the evening television news caught this part of his speech pretty accurately …

I realize that many here are upset with all the Clinton talk. While that is annoying and, yes, disrespectful, I believe it is a strategic mistake to pick a fight with the Clinton franchise. Political reality is, if Hillary decides to run, she will have clear shot at the nomination and very likely the presidency. She will command a huge women’s vote, and some of the racist red states where the President has struggled, and the Obama coalition will unite around her as well. An assured Dem. President in the four to eight years following Pres. Obama’s second term is a good thing and insures his initiatives will have staying power. My concern is for the good of the country and that we elect a strong Democrat and not get hung up on past grievances. Neither will it help in passing the President’s present program to have this unnecessary intraparty fight. Hillary has been a good SOS and has supported the President unequivocally, and he will support her unequivocally if she runs. Let’s not replay 2008. Our President has let go of that, and so should we.
I am not convinced. What are her policies? Are they different from what they were in 2008? Are they more progressive? Will she be able to overcome the obstruction, and rally Democrats behind her in Congress? Will she be able to withstand the inevitable misogyny that will come from the right as gracefully and successfully as President Obama has withstood the racism? Will Bill Clinton? Is she the best candidate?
My resistance to Hillary is not solely about past grievances – I supported her in 2008 until shortly before President Obama won the nomination. I have a lot of respect for Hillary’s accomplishments, her intellect and her support for women, globally. I’m just not convinced that her time didn’t already pass, or that she’s the best candidate in the pool of potential candidates. I personally think Joe Biden would make a better President. And I would like to hear what O’Malley and Cuomo and whomever else is out there might bring to the table (maybe Gillibrand?). She had name recognition and machinery in 2008, and she lost to President Obama. There won’t be another President Obama, but there could be another excellent candidate who might advance the progress made under President Obama, but who gets scared away with all this ‘Clinton inevitability’ talk. And the fact that they are allowing the same dynamic to occur speaks volumes to me.
I don’t want a Republican in office. And I’m not convinced that Hillary is the person to prevent that from happening. She may very well be that person, but she needs to prove it.
I’m not going to forget shit, President Obama is out there right now fighting for the people and the Clintons are out giving speeches and getting undeserved awards instead of working behind the scenes trying to help the President get some shit passed. And you want the Obama supporters to play nice, fuck that.
It’s not about playing nice. It’s about following the lead of PBO and taking a long view. A democratic president named Clinton is unlikely to undo Obamacare, or all the other initiatives he has put in place. If Obamacare is to become the next social security or medicare we will need more than satisfaction in the fact that we returned the favor to Clintonites for whatever past grievances. She has not even declared so this is all moot.
But I tend to trust in PBO’s judgement and if he or his close advisers are not sweating all this media babble, it probably good for our blood pressures if we follow suit.
I take my lead from the President. He is not one who holds grudges. He looks beyond the drama of the moment to keep his eye on the prize. He has made his alliance with the Clintons because it was good for the country, not because he just wanted to play nice. He thinks strategically and what is for the good of the country. That is a good example for all of us.
Thank you Bill. I have been wanting to say the same thing, but not sure how. You put it very well. And frankly, for one, I am so tired of the bickering.
I am 100% behind Ride or Die Joe Biden!!!! If for some reason VPOTUS decides to sit out the next election, I will give every other candidate a shot of earning my vote.

I just read two days ago he announced on his blog that his cancer was back and he would be cutting back on his work.
Yes, he said he would be ‘taking a leave of presence’
You and everyone at TOD know I enjoy a lively debate :)
That said, the amount of bandwidth being given to the Hilary 2016 is so premature and fraught with the glaring reality that Ms Clinton has specifically stated she is FINISHED WITH POLITICS, that it seems yet another distraction from the focus we all must bring to supporting President Obama’s 2nd term mission.
Moreover, it is hugely distracting from the single most important electoral objective we all must have – a Dem takeover of the House and strengthening of Dems in the Senate PLUS the need to replace R Governors and legislators in several key States – PA, OH, WI, FL, for instance – in 2014!!!!
Many of us realize that those stoking the Hilary shinny object are folk with a transparent agenda – UNDERMINE PBO & strengthen Rs in the House, Senate and State Houses in 2014 <<<<<< YES 2014.
They know they have very little hope of a National Electoral victory in 2016, so they are going to do everything they can to seed their terrorists in the US Congress and State executive and legislative and judicial positions.
Perfectly said. I would add getting rid of Christie in 2013.
That would be a very good additional objective and outcome, Diane, for sure!!
Hear, hear. Those who are engaging with the Hillary 2016 now are helping those who want all the attention on Hillary. Familiarity breeds contempt. Too much saturation, and left over anger would be a disservice for Hillary later. This is April 4, 2013. We have Immigration Reform, Gun Safety laws, Righting our Economy and helping Dems win back the house in 2014. Anything else We must ignore and resist the scheme to distract Us.
Well said, Bobfr. Well said.
Thanks, Bob, for your words of wisdom!

He was one of the good ones.
RIP Roger Ebert. Ask not for whom the balcony's closed; it's closed for thee.— God (@TheTweetOfGod) April 04, 2013
He really was. His tweets during the 2012 election were always spot on. He was unabashedly liberal and never apologized for fighting for the little guy.
Roger Ebert was a great champion of Pres Obama and human decency. #RIP— Steve Weinstein (@steveweinstein) April 04, 2013
