President Obama with Nicole Hockley, mother of schoolboy Dylan Hockley who was killed at Sandy Hook
No it isn’t
Hi Japa! Congrats!
However, the correct words are “this shouldn’t be about politics.” Unfortunately, for the GOP, that is exactly what it is all about. You can bet if there were a white GOP president in the WH right now, legislation would have been passed and signed months ago.
You said it all, Japa, you said it all.
There you are, Japa! I was just passing you a note on the last thread, thinking you were across the room.
Congrats again, by the way. You’ve been sharp today (no work distractions, eh?)!
If there was a white GOP president in the WH right now, the press would have moved on already, and any idea of gun legislation would never have been presented. Remember, the assault weapons bad was allowed to expire under the last white GOP president.
Congrats Japa on #1 :)
I Love my President:-)
For MightyPamela (my the young people in your family are certainly making their mark) :-)
HEY!! I know this guy!!! How clever of you, Dudette… and it gives LL a taste of what will be offered on Thursday. Ummm, there was a movie, Katisse did all the music, I forget the name now, HitmanMechanic, or some such thing?? It was a while ago…. he also plays at the Kennedy Center, and toured with Vanessa Paradis for a while, years ago. He is pretty popular, and of course, we love him, he is family!!!
That is so cool! :-D
Tee-hee! Found his website:
Since Chips in her infinite wisdom got a new thread going ately after I posted this,
Unfortunately, not in this ‘Republican Party’ …
Actually, I think even this Republican Party would have gotten something passed, even if just the universal background checks. The only reason they are against that most basic component now is explained in my next tweet.
Last one for awhile:
And I see twitter is still acting up.
Japa, you’re being ill making you super human…landing frequently on First, then sending out some slamming Tweets!
Slowly feeling better.
Loving this one…
We clearly need unrelenting focus on winning as many Federal & State elected offices as possible in 2014, 2016 and beyond. The GOP is the gravest threat to America in my lifetime.
Please pass along! TOD twitter warriors sending a message to congress and a rallying cry to #Demandaction on gun reform.
Thank you LP. Very good of you to assemble those tweets.
Thank you Bobfr, Dudette, UT, BWD, Deaconhill, and Chips…. I thought it was important to compile those and package in an easy way to share with others. #NowIsTheTime
Great job, LovelyPlains for assembling these tweets!

Nicole Hockley, who introduced the president, is one of the most courageous women I’ve seen. I listened to her and watched her on 60 minutes, and my heart broke. To do this today, is totally amazing. These people are NOT going to let this issue die as it has in other times. They are determined. We will support them and the president, and all those fighting for this legislation.
I looked at the filibuster list, and the only thing I could see halfway good, was that only ONE of my senators is on that list. At least not both of them. Inhofe is a troglodyte. That group is really a rogues’ gallery.
Couldn’t agree more Carolyn, Nicole Hockley is just an extraordinary woman. Her 60 Minutes interview was so hard to watch – I’d never dare to suggest it’s possible to understand what she and parents like her go through, but she made it so real you could almost feel her pain.
Although I wouldn’t have been surprised to see them on the list, I was relieved to see the two from Georgia weren’t on that list. Doesn’t matter, they’ll be solid “no’s” for any controls whatsoever. Crazy gun-hugging rednecks run this damned state.
I would not have been able to do half of what she has done. I would be still in bed grieving. This woman is amazing. My heart goes out to her and the rest of her family on their loss.
Nicole Hockey has to be one of the most courageous women ever. I watched her last night on 60 Minutes, my heart broke as she spoke. These people are not going to let this issue die. They have the resources to keep this going, and the will. We will all support them and the President in this desperately important fight.
I looked at the list of the heartless rogues’ gallery of filibusterers…..well…..at least only one of my Senators is on that list…..totally embarrassing.
I wrote both of them last night, and will contact them again.
I believe that these obstructionists are on the way out. This is their ‘last hurrah’.
President Obama will prevail.
This was a powerful address to watch live.
I SIMPLY MUST bring this post from our beautiful spirit HZ in the last thread. It’s so perfect!
“POB again gave America another piece of his beautiful heart. His core is centered on that ‘goodness of truth and what is right to do.’
We are so blessed to be living in this time with this great gift, our president. He is a man with a beautiful loving spirit; a brilliant mind; a calmness of spirit; a hardworking president; a man filled with compassion; a man who cares about others and how this journey is treating them along the way; and a president for All the people, no matter how much hate and evil remarks that are spoken against him daily. Those who bring on the obstruction in the Congress, certainly will see Karma visit them.
I love my president, and I will do all that I can to help him. He will always be the person that all of his friends and family will tell you that he is: A man with a core that is fixed on doing what is right to help others.
We support you, Mr. President. Chips has opened this place where we can discuss, share the intellect, spread the love, and most of all always show total respect to you, Mr. President. Thanks for sharing your beautiful spirit with the TOD Family. (((((((((( Blessings Always Go With You, Mr. President.)))))))))HZ”
Couldn’t say it any better. Thank you HZ!
Proud of my President today.
Proud of our President.
Thank you Dudette for re-posting HZ’s fine tribute to our President.
Yes We Can
I was compelled. :-)
Thanks Dudette for re-sharing HZ’s beautiful comment! This absolutely perfect!
Thank you, dudette. HZ is always an inspiration.
Dudette, thank you my dear and special family member. I was crying my eyes out during our president’s speech in Hartford today. I could see that he had been tearful before he came out to speak, and the tears just opened the words from his heart to our ears.
I just kept saying out loud, speak through him thy spirit of faith. And I could tell that his heart was so heavy, and the power that is so much higher than any of us, spoke through this beautiful vessel again today. I feel that the beautiful ‘spirit of goodness knew that the Sandy Hook parents and all of the parents all over this nation wanted to hear again, this voice of sweet and gentle loving harmony that President Obama brings to us when we are hurting so much from these acts of awful violence.
I also want to thank Chips and all of the beautiful souls who help her each and everyday to keep us going with the lovely, open, intelligent, truthful, and respectful threads each and everyday on this beautiful haven, our TOD Family.
(((((((((((( Chips, you bring so much joy and inspirational political brilliance to keep our TOD Family
Yes, We Can and Will Keep Supporting POB.
Thanks you, my beautiful Dudette, my Great Maestro((((Love you, my dear one))))HZ

Thank you so much Dotster!
Filed under “our media is crap.” (from tail-end of last thread, as usual)
On the last thread, Bill reasonably asked which 15 senators threaten to filibuster background check legislation.
Seemed like a simple request, but noooooooo.
FL Marco Rubio
ID Mike Crapo
IN Dan Coats
KS Jerry Moran
KS Pat Roberts
KY Mitch McConnell
KY Rand Paul
NC Richard Burr
OK Jim Inhofe
TX Ted Cruz
UT Mike Lee
WI Ron Johnson
WY Mike Enzi
That’s only 13 names, but my journo twitter feed announcing “and McConnell makes 15″ included no links.
And now the Politico article that I got these 13 names has apparently been taken down (and I closed that site, so no URL).
We’re just supposed their word for it.
Why don’t the news sites have a link to a list of Senators threatening filibuster so that voters can easily spot whether their elected official is thwarting #TheyDeserveAVote?
Media has plenty of time to cover HILLARY 2016! or OBAMA SEXIST! or Fox News Reporter Could Go to Jail For Withholding Sources!
but have NO time to provide actual information that citizens can use.
Congresscritters and Senators are not the only ones who deserve to have their pay withheld.
Journalists should be docked pay for contributing only to non-stories.
NC is trying to become more of a redneck state than SC. Neither Republican senator from SC is on the list.
Thank you for the list.
But it’s incomplete.
That was my whine. Can’t locate the list via Google, and Politico hasn’t reposted a revised version of the one they took down.
I’m going to tweet you an update…
So where is Tweety Matthews on this? No comment? Lost voice? Jaws wired shut? Lips stapled?
He is on the correct side with passion.
He loved PBO’s speech today.
With no mea culpas for his silly little tantrum last week?
He gave a very passionate support to gun control and PBO tonight…LIVE on his 7PM show
I’m not impressed if he didn’t apologize for his premature and false rant last week about PBO not leading .
I went to go see Olympus Has Fallen the weekend. Wanted to support Antoine Fuqua, but that was really hard to watch. It was way over the top (unnecessarily so, in my opinion) violent. I kept thinking something like that could happen in real life and reminding myself that our First Family is well-protected. Plus it didn’t help that most of my immediate family was in DC this weekend on a spring break road trip. I’ve had nightmares two nights straight since seeing the film. It was a mistake to go. I’m too squeamish.
Have you been to see 42 ? Is that movie out yet? Now that is the movie I want to see, the movie about Jackie and Rachel Robinson.
I think it’s out this week. Looking forward to it.
I am too Dudette.

I emailed Chambliss and Isakson earlier today. This is the response I received from Isakson:
” I support the Second Amendment right of all law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. I firmly believe that we do not need more gun control in America; rather we need more criminal control. To that end, I support instant background checks on the commercial purchase of all guns to prevent convicted felons from obtaining them, but I do not support waiting periods or the registration of any firearm. As many of these issues reemerge in the 113th Congress, I will work for common-sense legislation that keeps our children safe without infringing upon our Second Amendment rights. ”
Have not gotten a response from Chambliss as of yet.
You all understand why I get so angry and frustrated when people (who should know better) express skepticism and mistrust of my President on Twitter, blogs, anywhere. Why would this man deliberately push policies that hurt the most vulnerable among us?
The people accusing him of cutting SS need to look at this speech and do some damn soul searching as to why they are inclined to believe media reports of PBO hurting the vulnerable.
Hopefruit, I am with you 100%! I am sick and tired of people questioning President Obama’s commitment to “the most vulnerable among us.” People refuse to face reality! The President has to deal with a Republican dominated Congress. He can’t get anything done unless he finds some creative ways to compromise with Republicans, but at the same time protect the interests of the poor and the middle class. That’s exactly what he is doing! Purity progressives talk a big game but they haven’t shown me how they intend to make progress in the current reality in Congress.
Does anyone know what PBO’s new bracelet says?
I guess I should say, “wrist band”!!
This is similar to a tweet I sent this morning, but it captures the real problem. The GOP can only win if good people give up. It happened to some degree in 2010. We can’t allow it to happen in 2014 or where there are elections this year. We have local elections in Illinois tomorrow. These are typically low turnout elections but I will do my best to make sure no GOPers win any office.
“Every time I get fed up with politics and want to drop out, I realize that is exactly what GOP wants me and others to do.Ain’t gonna do it.”
Thank you Japa for sharing this! All of us need to heed your example. We cannot quit, even if we don’t win every battle we are engaged in.
O/T but important nonetheless…..some data driven info that may surprise you.

Sorry to drop in so sporadically these days. Work is super intense now & yet lovely. But it takes me away from TOD. Boo-hoo! Pretty soon I’ll be able to get back more often & comment.
Nath, when you get here from westcoast timezone, I didn’t forget your comment quite a few threads ago. I forgot to bookmark it so when I have a moment I can respond. Can you help an overworked person & let me know which post it was — this was about 2nd amendement fab comment you had & you were curious about my opinion. It started w/ my enjoyment of yours & Bobfr’s back & forth conversation. Bobfr, Hugs! Hugs to you too Donna!
Meanwhile, I love lurking on TOD when I’m on my 36-passenger commute limo. Uh-Huh! :) and when my smartphone doesn’t let me down, I’ll comment. Mostly, I love catching up w/ everyone during the commute — or almost catching up.
Chips, TODers, don’t give that ugly asshole any more attention, or your oxygen. He’s in ether & needs to dissolve. Damn, did you all know there are for real assholes who are also just plain damn ugly?! Hello! :)
xox, gotta take care of the mundane & crash, it’s been a long day!
Gazelle, that’s up there with the most awesomest comments ever! You’re a hoot – crash gently, and sleep well!
Hi, Chipsticks, are you referring to comments Gazelle is asking me about? If you are, can you please refer her to the post she is looking for? Finally, I am thankful that you liked the dialogue I had with our great Bobfr!
Hiya Nathkatun, was it this thread?
I am not sure, Chips. Hopefully, that’s what Gazelle was looking for. In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to look for it. To borrow from the “Boss,” you really do take care of your own!
Ah Nathkatun, if only I had the Boss’s good-looking bottom – or is that demeaning??
Chipsticks, you are really bad! I bet yours is probably way much better looking than this one, but then again I’ve never actually paid any attention to Bruce Springsteen’s bottom before. Definitely this one does absolutely nothing for me. I do have my preferences, but it’s best I keep that thought to myself. I don’t want purist feminists, with no sense of humor, attacking your blog.
Thank you, Chips. Alas, no. But I will bribe time somehow and find it. LOL! That’s how my days are these days: bribe Peter for time & promise Paul his tomorrow, which never comes! :)
Hey, Gazelle! Great to hear from you. Soory you’ve been working so hard. Thanks for kind words about my comment. I feel bad because I cannot remember the thread where I made the comment you are interested in. May be the incredible Bobfr remembers it. If I am not mistaken, the only comment of mine that I remember asking your opinion was about using Section 2 of the 14th Amendment to counter voter suppression laws. But then again it might have been about the 2nd Amendment because I am not totally sold that it guarantees individuals the right to own guns — especially military style assault weapons. I’ve actually embarked on a mission to study the genesis and the rationale for the 2nd Amendment. I especially want to know what the drafters of the 2nd Amendment had in mind, when they premised or conditioned “the right of people to keep and bear arms” on the necessity of “A well regulated militia.” This will take some time, but I will definitely share with you my tentative findings.
Rest well! You need it after along day.
Keep exposing them Bob! By the way Bob, can you assist Gazelle to find the thread where you and I were having a conversation about the 2nd Amendment? As you know, I strongly support your call on Congress and the President to pay attention to the 2nd Amendment’s phrase about “A well regulated militia..
Notice that I carefully avoided speaking ill of the dead.
 You are BAD Japa ….. in a delicious way!
Well, thank you. I learned at the feet of a master.
Amk? I know, me too
You better beware that I can login again.
Ah jeez, I thought the glitches had kept you out and I was free to abuse you!
Ha. f’in ff thought it had me licked. Kicked its sorry ass first thing today am.
Not AMK, he has taught me how to be a misogynistic, sarcastic SOB though. You, on the other hand have taught me how to be bad in so many ways, yet disguise it at the same time.
You’re welcome, japa.
My gratitude knows no bounds.
see, if you were vc, it would have cost you 10,000 bucks.
DISCRIMINATION! DISCRIMINATION! And I was just about to tell Japa he WAS NOT misogynistic! Well, I never!!!
I’m still trying to figure out what to say, either:
(a) Why, thank you kind sir!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one Japa.
Hopefruit, do you remember the time Japa was a nice person?
um..er..that was just earlier this morning! What happened…did Uncle Mitch slip a pill in Japa’s tea this evening?
I’d put it more like, dunno, Sunday? I think the signs were there even this morning. It’s sad, really, he used to be such a gentleman, which is why I proposed marriage. Oh well.
However, I noticed you haven’t revoked that proposal yet.
No, not yet Japa, you’ve only used up 86 of your 87 chances, so you’re still good to go.
And any way, I can’t get out of my dress after trying it on, so: ‘Please proceed, marriage’.
Is she hiding her future husband and his ushers under there????
Isonprize, starting to feel a little offended now. Are you saying my wedding dress is over-big????
LOL! I would have sworn I saw you propose to E. mo Black this morning! :)
Hush, Hopefruit – my secret! (He rejected me, so I’ll take Japa instead).
As Rick Perry would say: ooops….
 If Japa calls off the marriage, let it be on YOUR conscience!
You don’t know the half of it Hopef! If all the candidates Chips approaches accepted, we would be running around after her full time throwing rice or whatever it is that’s thrown these days.
My response to this scurrilous comment is a mixture of rage, rage, rage, rage and laughing-so-hard-I’m-actually-crying.
Shame on you VC.
 That wasn’t meant for your eyes. ‘If I have offended you in any way….. don’t tell anyone’
Nah, Hopef. It’s been coming a while now with little bits here and there. The same process was evidenced in Bobfr. The shell cracks open one day and we’re not sure we heard correctly, so we other villagers blink and carry on. A few hours/days later another piece breaks free, and we turn our heads and look at it carefully, surprised by what we see/hear, but still think it’s an anomaly and maybe we are mistaken. Then one day …CR-A-A-A-ACCK! The whole new chip-a-ram bursts forth – and the rest of us fall backwards in consternation! Of course, I haven’t decided yet if they learnt at the feet of the wimmin ‘master’ or the ‘min’ master, or both! [I confess it's fun though to see how people in TOD Village learn - from writing blogs to writing letters to congressmen to saying what we think or not saying but 'showing' what we REALLY think.] This is an awesome LEARNING place to hang out! You’ve birthed a weally, weally gud place, Chips Chica!

Loved the manner in which LOD welcomed our fine and brilliant Jon, ‘Greatest Presidential Speech Writer’ in my lifetime. Lawrence was very excited to have Jon on and said that Jon will be back many more times in the future. Great respect for one of our fine young person from POB’s Administration.
I love that we here had a lot to do with encouraging all of these beautiful young people who gave(and continue to give) so much to this Administration. Our great president deserves this beautiful respect. What an honor for all of these brilliant young people. All the work that Chips and all TODers did to elect and reelect POB will keep our hearts filled with so many wonderful memories.HZ

LadyH, you have to pass that suggestion on and hope it somehow falls on caring ears. Anyone game? Pick the station you favour, or create your own tweet but send them the thought. If enough wheels squeak a little bit of oil might just trickle in their direction. :???:
Despite the glitchy nature of tweets today, I’m posting this NATO tweet because I thought it was an odd photo for NATO to send.

WH video of speech:
What a powerful, powerful speech President Obama gave today in Connecticut! Shame on all of us Americans if we fail to step up and put pressure on Congress to do the right thing.
I completely agree. You would have thought I was a good sistah at Sunday service. My neighbors probably thought I had lost my mind. He was absolutely superb!
Yes He was, Fay! He really poured his soul! Haters can hate all they want, but we elected a great man as our president. Everyday, I am grateful that the majority of American voters rejected haters and elected him twice as our President.
Nath, you are bringing on the floodgate of joyful tears again. Your words are so powerful. Thank you, nath.HZ
Thank you HZ for your kind and thoughtful words and for all the inspiring comments you post on this site. In spite of all the ugliness being thrown at him from everywhere, our President refuses to give up his love and faith in the goodness of most people.
Can we send Chris Hayes to Gitmo?
Notice that Bernie Sanders has been remarkably silent on the gun control issue?
He’s a Libertarian – that’s why.
since twitter is all atwitter today
Just thinking about the difficuty in getting a vote on what should be so obvious. It feels to me, like we are in the process of purging the poison out of the body politic. This is a painful process. People hoped the Civil War cleansed it, but it just went underground. It arose with Jim Crow. Then, people hope it was cleansed with the Civil Rights legislation and action, but it went underground. I’m sure some on this blog knew of the hate and poison boiling underground, but many of us in safe little places did not know. Since the election of President Obama it has exploded in full fury. I” have a clear feeling that he knew at least some of what would explode after festering. I do not believe he is surprised.
I do not like all this, but I keep thinking what Justice Brandeis said: Sunlight is the best disinfectant. The process is painful…..just like cleaning a physical wound is painful.
But, I saw the sign one of the Newtown parents carried on to Air Force One…..”Love Wins” Wow! If that woman could say that, it is up to us who love the president and our country to make sure this happens.
Every Sunday our pastor talks about the power of love. He prays the same prayer at the close of every service…..”Pray for peace, work for peace, wage a little peace, and love one another, EVERY SINGLE OTHER” We say that last phrase together. My husband asked…”Do I have to love GWB?” We asked the pastor, he laughed, and said his wife refuses to say that phrase because she knows she can’t love every single other. That’s our human reaction. But, I do believe that in the long run, love does win. That is all that can change hearts and minds, not arguments, not reasoning,…….I have felt love on this blog ever since I started reading, and that is what has held me here. I find this unusual in a group of people who do not know each other personally, but are united in one purpose. I see and feel here the power of love. I believe we can spread this.
Carolyn, that was beautifully stated and I agree with every word. The dark underbelly of racist American has been revealed in all its disgusting depths since PBO was elected. It’s shocking and deeply disturbing. I hope and pray that seeing all this ugliness out in the open will open the minds of decent people to the fact that this racist poison will kill this country if we don’t act.
Love is more powerful than hate and it’s also much, much harder. So easy to think that someone else is “lesser” and more worthy of contempt than you are. So hard to see the goodness in people (no matter how hidden) and love them despite themselves.

I love TOD because it concentrates on what matters to people – as does President Obama. While the blogosphere is talking about a Prime Minister the UK could well have done without (just ask the Scots about the poverty they endured at that time) – TOD is caring about those who have been so harmed by the GOP dependence on violent weapons.
I also love TOD because – Manchester United – just as a minor secondary thing.
“I also love TOD because – Manchester United – just as a minor secondary thing.”
Excuse me 99ts? EXCUSE ME????
what happened to manc and manu derby ? Did c kick their ass?
Yup, they did. By 2-1. Not as good as the 6-1 whipping last year. But still ass kicking is ass kicking.
May the WP glitch return and prevent you from logging in.
Have just emailed WP support asking if it’s possible to apply a log-in glitch to a single TOD visitor. Marked the email ‘Urgent’, so hopefully they’ll reply *very* soon.
You guys have the only “war” goin’ on that makes me wish I had brought some popcorn! So funny. All the threats are delicious. (Can you tell I was born and raised in New Jersey, where this kind of talk is required?)
Jacqueline, it’s an ugly war of attrition, but I am now confident I have the Amk person trapped in the trenches, especially if WP provide me with a way of mucking up his log-in. Stay tuned, pop more popcorn, this one could run and run.
Yes, we’re all watchin’, Chips. As they used to say after the end of the “commercial break” for the snack bar during a drive-in movie (yes, I am THAT old):

Amk and me should start charging a fee for viewing this battle – it could be a money-spinner!
This is only funny to me that I found it, but, hey.
Well – in comparison to PBO and Sandy Hook – otherwise not so minor – am I excused?
Hmm, not sure I’m ready to excuse you, 99ts. Are you saying Manchester United aren’t on an importance-par with PBO????????
Oh dear – if I have you and UT attacking me I will be torn asunder – but yes that is what I am saying – may someone forgive me.
That Otter loves me – he does – well someone has to
99ts, I got so sick of hearing about Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, I turned the television off. The revisionist history is astounding. I shudder to think of the revisionist story they will weave about the Obama presidency.
I regular beeb watcher, I skipped it totally today. I knew they’ll be rewriting history.
The reality of Nelson Mandela survived the racism and hate of Thatcher – so it will be with President Obama.
Well said, ts. While only white fascists & racists will love these cretins, NM is loved and respected all over the world.
Yes indeed, 99ts! And despite all the racism and brutality he endured, Nelson Mandela never lost his humanity and his capacity to love! Listening to the President today, you come away overwhelmed by his capacity to transcend the silliness and the hate and focus on improving the lives of all people.
Do Man United fans lean towards either Labour or the Tories? I heard today Liverpool fans are very anti-Thatcher.
I cannot imagine that anyone from Manchester would be a Torrie Fan – real people play football & most would be very anti-Thatcher – the tories play rugby
United fans definitely lefties – and also, oddly, quite anti-England. But that’s a common trait among northern clubs, who wouldn’t be overly-fond of ‘the south’, where all the power and wealth lies.
And Alex Ferguson is a complete leftie, former union man, Labour supporter, etc. Although, very rich!
The President was absolutely brillant today and made an absolutely wonderful, impassioned speech today. I was beginning to think that gun safety was dead. I believe with all the Whitehouse efforts this week including Flotus there just might be a chance to shame these 10/11 Republicans to back down and allow a vote.
They have no excuses as why the new laws should not be inacted. So they fillabuster to try and skirt the issue.
The fucking greens of uniteblue are being exposed for the frauds they are.
Hello, TOD…..thank you, Chips for the video of yet another powerful speech from our President.
I just feel the pain for everyone who has been affected by gun violence. It could be any one of us, if this is allowed to continue and we dare forget.
