“You’ve got a Friend” Congrats.
You have done it now.
ANNOUNCEMENT: There will be an “I ♥ Chelsea” post followed by a “Manchester United is the SUCKIEST team ever” post tomorrow.
Gird your loins woman.
Gird your loins.
I know not what you mean. The sleeping tiger is now awake.
Exclusive pic of UT working on tomorrow’s R&S:
That is GREAT!! :-D
Pweez UT! Don’t hurt hur. She ain’t mean nuthin’ by it. Turn the other cheek, cain’t ya?
Nothing to forgive. Obviously she didn’t read that articele that said Man U was far and away the best Premier League team and you had to go down the list a long way to find Chelsea.
These kitten pictures are sooooo cute; know absolutely nothing about soccer (football), but I’d forgive ya, Chips!
Well, thank you very much Arapaho415! :-)
What a sense of humor
POTUS sure can make a crowd laugh.
LOL. He’s too funny.
So sad that Paris Hilton is trending when Carole King was just awarded the 2013 Library of Congress G. Gershwin prize; 1st female recipient.— ForUS50 (@FORUS50) May 23, 2013
Why is this child trending?
uggh. I looked it up and sadly it’s because she signed with some record producer. Yeah, horrifying.
To actually sing?
To do what?
Rap label (Cash Money) — double uggh!
I can’t believe that Paris Hilton is still news; and Kim Kardashian (famous for being famous).
Can’t this generation of teens find their own “celebs?”
Doesn’t matter, Forus. We all know what a genius Carole King is and what a big deal this is. More people will see it when it goes on PBS. In the meantime, I was thinking how pleased George and his brother, Ira, would be if they saw Carole King being honored tonight. They would have loved her music, too.
Absolutely. And good point.
Well said, Jackie G! Of course being an oldie person I probably will never quite understood why Paris Hilton is such a big deal. Carole King is being honored for her impressive record of creative production.
I cherish these events at the WH with POTUS & FLOTUS! Always a treat.
yes they are….I so love Potus being in the white house
Me too, meta.
Same here. As much as I love music, I never got as excited about these events until the Obamas came in.
Never watched them before or cared about them either, Dudette. I think it was the idea of seeing George Bush that turned me off. No other president, including all the Dems, has ever gotten me so involved. PBO is one of a kind.
It’s The Peoples House don’cha know.
You can say that again! :-)
I love them….the Obamas. And I enjoy the events so much.
FLOTUS was very clear! She wanted the White House to be the people’s House! My be I was not paying particular attention about Presidents before President Obama, but there is absolutely no doubt that both POTUS and FLOTUS have been absolutely marvelous in opening up the White House to celebrate the cultural accomplishments of Americans from all walks of life.
Could be more right Nath! They’ve lived up their pledge to keep it The People’s House. They truly are national treasures themselves.
I’m meant “Couldn’t be more right…”
Yes Indeed, Dudette! I don’t care what the haters say, Obama’s presidency has been the most consequential in my life time. And I am no spring chicken!
By the way, it’s so good to see you back in in tip top form spreading love, positive vibes, and good music.
@BarackObama Winter, spring, summer or fall; all you have to do is call. You've got 65 million friends.— (@LiberalPhenom) May 23, 2013
This was such a nice break. So proud of Carole King and nice to see and hear the President, charming as always. Carole King unknowingly paid tribute to my youngest kitty, Jasmine.
I was left behind. I looked up and I was all alone. Now I know how VC feels :(
Another Republican Governor Reverses Course On Obamacare – huff.to/185zF9m @JeffersonObama— Jayne ♥ (@jaydoll51) May 23, 2013
The kenyan’s rushyan commie’s dominoes trickery. IMPEACH.
Okay, but let’s wait a couple years to see if that sonofagun convinces some other poor misguided governors to come to the dark side.
Then we’ll REALLY have something on him. ;-)
How many GOP Governors is that
Article says 9. :-)
Hopefully the number of Republican governors will change in 2014. There are so many total incompetents that just have to go.
That’s amazing! We still have 9 sane Republican Governors? There is still hope for the U.S.A.
Could be 9 governors trying to stay relevant for re-election -not sure all of the 9 would be classified sane
You are absolutely right, 99ts! I regret my premature enthusiasm about the sanity of the nine Republican governors who signed on to expand medicaid.
It would be lovely if you were correct – hopefully some election losses will help them regain some sense
We’ll get ‘em all eventually. Slowly we’ll turn, step by step, inch by inch… :-)
Okay, I am having a hard time. Feel like I have whiplash. I’ve been reading a book about Lincoln focusing on the 1860 election. There are so many bits that are reminiscent of our recent election and I have to keep reminding myself that the Republicans are the ‘good guys’. Then I come here and read this heading and I think…”But the Republicans are the ‘good guys’…and I have to remember that now the Democrats are the “good guys” again. My system can’t take too much more of this.
It’s okay, honey. The universe flipped in the 60s. We’re in the topsy-turvy alternate universe now.
Even though the Dixiecrats were part of the Democratic Party in the 30’s and 40’s there were good Dem presidents like FDR (at Eleanor’s urging) and Truman who tried to make strides for racial equity. LBJ changed the composition of the party membership, but the leadership was never as twisted, corrupt and bigoted as the present day Republican leaders.
1860’s or 1960’s? See my problem? Will I get to meet the other Romulan Kirk?
I’m thinking 1960s, but I can see where you can get twisted. Take some deep breaths. Drink some lemonade! Here’s a cold towel. I understand. :-)
That Other Kirk was kinda hot. Not as hot as my Other Spock with the fine-assed goatee, but still kinda hot.
Definitely registering on the hotness scale; goatee upping the ante, Dudette. And thanks, that cold towel felt good and the lemonade–Mmmmmmm! I’m recharged and ready to go!
I am sorry, Maryl1, that you are now finding out about all this. The political party shifts with regard to Civil Rights, which began in the 1930s and 1940s, but dramatically accelerated in the 1960’s, should have been taught in history and political science courses; at least beginning with High School. There is practically little resemblance between Lincoln’s Republican party and Today’s Republican party. More significantly, in the specific context of the Southern States, former Southern Segregationist Democrats — better known as the Dixiecrats– are now the most reliable base of the Republican party.
Oh, I knew about it before, but I had not read such a detailed account of the 1860 election. Some of the parallels with recent events are striking. It’s just that this is the first time since the Republicans totally lost their minds that I am reading about this era. Stephen Douglas and the Democrats being defeated because they have to satisfy their extremist base; poorer white people voting in the best interests of rich landowners because they are threatened by the idea of free black people and losing what little they have. The Republican candidate registering huge numbers of new voters, especially young people and immigrants; running a sophisticated, efficient campaign machine in all the Northern states; and having far more accurate polling numbers to which they paid attention. Whereas the Democrats ignored the polls and the people on the ground and believed what they wanted to believe. You might see how in 2012 those labels could be easily reversed. The parties are mirror images now. I knew the labels had switched and that they certainly believed differently than they do now, but I hadn’t realized how they mirrored each other in the details.
I also remember the Southern strategy and Johnson signing the Civil Rights act that drove all the Dixiecrats into the Republican party.
Relatives in Iowa call him ‘Gov. Braindead’, well maybe not this time………
Two days after the #Oklahoma tornado. What do #OK lawmakers prioritize? Defunding Planned Parenthood. Unreal. huff.to/11bT5Rf— Planned Parenthood (@PPact) May 23, 2013
Natural storms pass away but the rethugs’ shitstorms are always on killing people.
Well Dudette, that just about took my breath away. There are no words for that level of stupidity. One day, Oklahoma gets hit with a tornado, the next a giant brain fart from their state senate.
Dudette, in my opinion, most Oklahoma Republicans, at all levels of government, are so caught up in advancing right wing/tea bag ideology that they no longer care about the real issues that affect middle classes or the most vulnerable people– the poor.
Sadly, I see that right here in Georgia too.
Prettyfoot and others from Philly area are probably aware of this, but the King of Prussia Mall near Philly tossed out a couple of young women this weekend who were shopping for funeral dresses for their mother who died at the heartbreakingly young age of 51 (at similar age to President Obama’s mother) from cancer.
It looks like they put a pink ribbon over the “c” in FU*K CANCER. I think every living soul has exactly the same sentiment, so why throw these grieving customers out of the mall?
This story is appalling to me.

Well, Arapaho, I hope that after these women grieve for their mother, they find a good lawyer and sue the heck our of King of Prussia mall.
It’s tough enough having a baby, but can you imagine it while a fierce tornado is ripping away the hospital walls and shaking the floors and lifting off the roof? Amazing story of such a birth in Ok. And look at that sweet baby.
Saw that on the news yesterday. What a way to make an entrance! :-)
This child gets to look forward to hearing the amazing story of his birth! And (according to Rachel Maddow) Oklahomans referred to the last F5 tornado in Moore as “May 3rd, ” so everyone there will remember his birthday!
The article says doctors delivered the baby by c-section; I can’t really visualize how it’s possible to operate in a hospital with no roof or walls. How do the upper floors stay up with no walls? Since I’m from California, I just imagine buildings pancaking as happened with the Northridge Meadows earthquake in 1994.
Yikes, dotster. What an experience. I’m not sure I could have remained as calm as this young woman. She and her baby boy are amazing.
Ha ha ha ha ha! Love that clip Chipsticks! Mrs Robinson wanted to hear the music! My girl! :-)
****Loved**** it Dudette!!!!
This article is the best summation I’ve read of what the IRS scandal is really about. Thanks @Gingersnap195 for the RT!

You’re very welcome! Thanks for the great tweets!
Thanks Beth! Well done!
Awww shucks (shuffles feet).
Thanks, Dudette & Gingersnap!
The actual law reads “exclusive” – not primary. The IRS illegally made that change in 1959. As Lawrence O’Donnell has been saying, this is the REAL scandal. Hardly any of these groups should be allowed to do what they’re doing, under the LAW.

Ayiiiii. This guy is the worst ever. Every time he opens his mouth, his foot automatically goes in. There are some truly awful Republican governors in this country, but Corbett truly takes the cake.
I need to see this concert! it’s there a link somewhere? please help me out.
Cindy, not sure if it’ll be on YouTube, but PBS are showing it next Tuesday
Now, I have noticed through the years how you younguns publish heartthrobs(excluding PBO and Joe cause they are absolutely the tops) so I want to see you bring a young James Taylor over here….Plenty of him with his long hair on youtube but I don’t know how to import it,…I just want you whipper snappers to see what pushed my buttons then and now….
Fire and Rain ;)
I saw him sing this live at our college. It’s a story about a girl in therapy. Can’t remember what happened too her. :'(
It was more complicated. http://tinyurl.com/jcx8m
Sweet Baby James ;) hope that would hold you for a while :)
YES! Dude was a hottie-hot sweet thang back in the day! :-)
Still Looking mighty Fine at his age…..Not bad  . And a great human being, might I add.
Yep, and hippy dippy me still appreciates him!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUM

Or was this about Mexico? I am Not getting it.
Portion of James Rosen’s email (see article); key phrase after the – …
“Let’s break some new, and expose muddle-headed policy when we see it – or force the administration’s hand to go in the right direction, if possible.”
Thanks Arapaho415. I should have read the article before commenting. I just did. Now I think that I have got it. Thanks.
Rosen is an arrogant, idiotic jerk, so full of himself, he would risk lives and undermine the security of the country. And so called ‘journalists’ are complaining because he was found out? The hell with them.
More James… (with Carly Simon)
Now, who could possibly not appreciate that ;) ?
Saw your comment on an earlier thread; didn’t realize that FL is a “shoot first, ask questions later” kind of place.

Dudette, when my Grandson was an infant, the only way we could get him to sleep was to put on JT’s Greatest Hits, put baby on shoulder and dance slowly in the middle of the room…by the time Carolina on my Mind came on he would be sound asleep…if we played anyone else he would scream….fast forward….DIL was secy. of Mecklenburg Co. Dems and when JT came and gave a concert for PBO she got us tickets….took Grandson who was 6 by then….we were seated just a couple of rows from front…..JT sang and sang and we looked over and Grandson was fast asleep….Grandson is now 11 and if he comes in house and JT’s singing he rolls his eyes and says Grandmama please change the cd, I don’t want to go to sleep.
Aww that’s sweet. JT does have the most soothing voice.
Did I mention (Iyes, know like 50 times) we had to learn Carolina on My Mind the first week of fresh yr at UNC? Burned into my memory banks forevah!! Love that man!

POTUS will be giving a major speech tomorrow. Anyone know the time?
2:0 PM EST, Anniebella
I came here this evening just to find that out. It can be exasperatingly difficult to find out times of speeches; I read any number of articles on the speech, and none mentioned the time. Finally found something on C-SPAN, which lists the time as 1:30, but that may be when their coverage starts.
Hi Jull, we’ll know for sure in the morning, but if C-Span say 1:30, probably safer to go with that for now.

Wonder if they have ‘grown back’ yet? This is from Sept. 2012.
Grown back or sewn back VC……like that guy, Lorena Bobbitt’s former husband…..do remember that story in the 1990s?
Vaguely, but didn’t Bobbitt have the part to be reattached, whereas this idjit probably only had shredded bits.
yes, he did. The wife throw it out and it was found and reattached……
Remember Lorena well. Back in the day if you wanted to see a room full of men cringe, all you had to do was say “Lorena Bobbitt” — every male in earshot would scrunch up their face and cross their legs…
VC, is it possible for him to grow the P and Ts back? Or did you mean if the parts had been re- attached back?
Nath, I was just being s-i-l-l-y, ;) while noting that this wasn’t a recent story. I remembered it from when it first aired because I remember thinking what a shame he had marred his ‘manly’ future with his obsession with his ‘manly’ toy.

Yes he did, Dudette! All these Black academics and Black media pundits who are attacking the President have totally lost their marbles! I remember Dr. King giving a similar speech, I think it was in 1964, urging Black students to study hard and be the best and refuse to allow the color of their skin, or their size, to define who they were and what they can attain.
As usual, our President is about 50 paces (or more) ahead of our hapless media, so they’re still focusing on the “scandalabra” trifecta (love who ever came up with “scandalabra”).

:-D :-D :-D
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott has finished the fix of the flawed election law that relegated Florida to a late-night joke in 2012 by signing an elections cleanup bill passed on the final day of the legislative session.
The measure, signed by Scott late Monday before he left for a trade mission to Chile, reverses several provisions implemented in 2011 by GOP lawmakers in anticipation of the 2012 presidential election.
Those changes, criticized by Democrats as an attempt to suppress votes for President Barack Obama, limited the early voting that the president’s campaign capitalized on in 2008. The 2011 law also prevented early voting on the Sunday before Election Day and prohibited voters, particularly students, from changing their voting address at the polls.
Thinking about President Obama’s loss of parents and grandparents before they could see him win as President makes me glad that he has Mrs Robinson as his mother-in-law. I know it gives him a sense of connectedness and belonging. He knows that she loves him as a son.
