Night Owl Chat: Songs Of Pres. Obama

*********

BLD75RmCYAAr990

In that vein, here are some songs Pres. Obama has mentioned liking over the years because they hold some meaning for him”

*********

Pres. Obama said he listened to this Jay-Z song almost everyday during the 2012 election. He raised the awesomeness bar very high because he understood what the lyrics of the song meant. That determination to get up and conquer every obstacle in your way. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Sorry Mitt!

UT – When I saw your header “Songs of Pres. Obama,” I literally thought to myself, “What a delight!” – even before I saw the songs! The man just epitomizes goodness and sweetness and light, doesn’t he?

President Obama is one rare person in a lifetime. He is smart, wise, courageous, articulate, funny, compassionate, warm, graceful, down to earth, and extremely talented. As far as I am concerned, the people who hate the President: the tea baggers, Emoprogs, the GOP, the media, and all the fly-by-night pundits,, are all consumed with “ENVY.”

      • May 25, 2013 at 8:01 am

As usual nath, your comment is spot-on. It is envy and envy only which is driving the bulk of the so-called “criticism” which is usually laced with a variety of insults, cheap shots, and snarky/juvenile nitpicking. We are on to them and as many people have said, no weapon formed against our President shall prosper.

My….. this is inspiring. Those faces, those words….. what a great thing it is to be alive at this time and to have such a great leader for our country, at such an important time.

      • May 25, 2013 at 12:47 am

Agreed Bill R. For me, this song speaks to the inspiration and hope that arose during the 2008 election. We are blessed with the presidency of Barack Obama and the inspiration and hope that began during his first campaign continues to thrive.

I used to be mad at her. Growled about how cheap & tacky it was. As time passed, I came to understand, there wasn’t much difference between her and me, with the exception that she had the nerve to make a video. I might have waited until after the campaign myself.

But then again, she might’ve actually helped a bit. All is forgiven. Besides I sure FLOTUS eventually got a laugh or two out of it (after making him squirm a bit, of course)

I have never seen this video of the “Crush On Obama” girl. And it was on purpose, I just feel like people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame, and that is all this girl was doing. So glad she disappeared in 2012.

Dudette is in the House! Thanks for always livening up this place. By the way, something is terribly wrong with the media that keep pushing lies that President Obama is “arrogant,” “aloof,” and “inaccessible.” I’ve been around for sometime and I cannot remember a President who was more accessible, down to earth, and fun loving than President Obama. The same is true of First Lady, Michelle Obama. I am sure all the artists and musicians would agree with me; and so would the children. The President and the First Lady, as they promised, have truly made the White House the People’s House .

I’m always thrilled to get the family swaying, nath! Glad you’re here with me.

MSM has got NOTHING, nath! Absolutely nothing! The “arrogant, aloof” mess is just jealousy cuz he’s not shuckin’ & jivin’, schmoozing & boozing with them. He’s focused on what he SHOULD be focused on — steering this big ol’ ship back on the path to the future. He gets “real people” and they get him. That’s all the matters. We keep moving #FORWARD. They can come along or get out of the way.

Dudette, if we got rid of the GOP, the TP and the RWM, this country would be in much better shape. I’m sick and tired of them holding us back. It’s like being in a really bad relationship with no way of getting out.

I decided to look up some ‘Obama’ poetry [since I can't sing]. ;) Here are a few written by 6th graders in California.

This first one seems most appropriate

    Dear President Obama
We don’t want more war, but more peace.
Let the grass grow, not burn.
Let the people live, not die.
Let the soldiers come home to their families.
It’s us that make the change,
so why don’t we change things?
    When someone shoots a gun,
someone dies, but when we don’t start war,
    thousands live.

    —Jesus

Thought it important for anyone unfamiliar with the lyrics of Jay-Z’s ‘My First Song’ to have them readily available:

        “My 1st Song”

        [Notorious B.I.G. interview]
I’m just, tryin to stay above water y’know
        Just stay busy, stay workin
Puff told me like, the key to this joint
The key to staying, on top of things
is treat everything like it’s your first project, knahmsayin?
Like it’s your first day like back when you was an intern
Like, that’s how you try to treat things like, just stay hungry

        [Verse One: Jay-Z]
        Uhh, uhh, yes, yes
Y’all wanna know, why he don’t stop
Y’all wanna know, why he don’t flop
Let me tell you pe-eople why
Came from the bottom of the block I
When I was born, it was sworn, I was never gon’ be shit
Had to pull the opposite out this bitch
Had to get my ri-ide on
Eyes on the prize, Shawn knew I had to
Had to had to get these chips
Had to make moves like Olajuwon
Started out sellin dimes and nicks
        Graduated to a brick
No exaggeration, my infatuation with the strip
        Legendary like a schoolboy
Crushin merely nearly every every chick
Heavy shit – that’s how schoolboy got whipped
And got left on some “Just +Me, Myself and I+”
        On some Trugoy shit
Had your boys threw place up, to a place of no return
Had to play with fire and get burned
Only way the boy ever gon’ learn
Had to lay way in the cut, ’til I finally got my turn
Now I’m on top in the spot that I earned

        [Chorus]
It’s my life – it’s my pain and my struggle
The song that I sing to you it’s my ev-ery-thing
Treat my first like my last, and my last like my first
And my thirst is the same as – when I came
It’s my joy and my tears and the laughter it brings to me
        It’s my ev-ery-thing

        [Verse Two: Jay-Z]
Like I never rode in a limo
Like I just dropped flows to a demo
        Like it’s ninety-two again and
And I got O’s in the rental
Back in the Stu’ again, no prob’ livin was a whole lot simpler
When you think back, you thought that
you would never make it this far, then you
take advantage of the luck you handed
Or the talent, you been given
Ain’t no, half steppin, ain’t no, no slippin
Ain’t no different from a block that’s hidden
Gotta get it while the getting’s good
Gotta strike while the iron’s hot, ‘fore you stop
Then you gotta bid it, good riddance
Goodbye, this is my second major breakup
My first was, with a pager
With a hooptie, a cookpot, and the GAME
This one’s with the stool, with the stage, with the fortune
Maybe not the fortune, but certainly the FAME

        [Chorus]
It’s my life – my pain and my struggle
The song that I sing to you it’s my ev-ery-thing
Treat my first like my last, and my last like my first
And my thirst is the same as – when I came
It’s my joy and my tears and my laughter it brings to me
        It’s my ev-ery-thing
Treat my first like my last, and my last like my first
And my thirst like the first song I sang
        #TrustBarack He’s Earned It

While it is easy to appreciate the sentiments in the image of our wonderful President being contrasted to Republicans, that a ‘man’ needs to be sent to clean up their mess and lead is actually an assessment that is incomplete.

While I have ZERO insight into what is in Barack Obama’s brain, we all have decades of ample evidence of how much he values the power, capacity and unbounded generosity of spirit of women.

That is the context for this tweet:

Ha, here I am again with a question for AMK. I have tried three of the ‘free’ spyware programs you mentioned and, after telling me how many problems I have, each is asking me to register and is giving me prices. What’s that all about? Doesn’t free mean you don’t have to pay? This is so frustrating – they must have heard from the guys who scammed me that I’m good for a hit! Grrrr! Is there any that is really, truly free?

    • May 25, 2013 at 9:33 am

Unfortunately a lot of “free” is introductory stuff that’s good for a test run only. They will scan but not remove the errors unless you pay for greater functionality. Try this: but be warned: if it’s talking about registry, you will have to pay for that functionality:

      http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138

(Owner of four previous computers-each better than the previous)

        May 25, 2013 at 9:49 am

‘They will scan but not remove the errors unless you pay for greater functionality.’

That’s what’s been happening, THEN THEY WON’T GO AWAY even when you say ‘no thanks’. They keep cropping up each time I turn on the computer!!!!! If I had hair to spare I’d be pulling it out in handfuls!

        • 136 utaustinliberal
          May 25, 2013 at 9:55 am

When I had a PC, the only security thing I used was McAfee. I paid about $60 or so for a whole year and it protected my computer well. I didn’t have problems. When I switched to a Mac, Apple takes care of everything and I mean EVERYTHING.

That’s the weird thing with all these “free spyware” programs for PC’s. They’re more harm than good. It’s better to pay for a good spyware program and save yourself the headache.

I’d recommend McAfee since that’s the one I used.

p.s. Under no circumstances should you ever use Norton Anti-Virus software. It gives crap a good name.

          • May 25, 2013 at 10:03 am

The guy that fixes and sells my computers recommends Panda Security. It’s a subscription service (paid annually) but works like a charm. You can get the current year for a discount if you go to Amazon.com.

          • 139 vcprezofan2
            May 25, 2013 at 10:29 am

Thanks Utal, and CarolD. I am soooo confused by this because there are so many different stories about what works for people. I have used Norton in the past and I am currently trying to rid my computer of Kapersky which keeps reminding me minute-ly that my last subscription has expired. In fact I think I have tried them all – almost – but I was infected (sounds like a disease  ) even while I was supposedly covered. I do prefer to pay for what I need except I hate to think I’m paying for something that isn’t working. My problem is that once I pay I don’t want to have to worry about it, yet the free downloads AND the scam artist always seem to ‘find’ something wrong.

CarolD, I am going to do the Control Panel add/remove right now – thanks for the reminder. I was just telling them ‘no’ each time they pop up, then trying to move them to the garbage. (I’m reconciled to the fact I’m a computer dummy and will always be.)

            • 140 utaustinliberal
              May 25, 2013 at 10:49 am

When I paid for McAfee, it became an automatic thing. McAfee informs you by email about a month or so (and time again) that your yearly subscription (or whatever you have) needs to be renewed. It’ll show you the price and everything so that you don’t have to worry about it. It renews automatically if you want it that way.

It’s also easy to unsubscribe. They give you a customer service number to do so at anytime. They can also give a refund if you don’t like the service and are still within your free canceling full refund period.

Make sure you disable all other anti-virus programs. It looks like it’s corrupting your operating system.

Hail to the Chief we have chosen for the nation,

getting caught on the day, and just want to chime in on something from an earlier post where people were talking about ronald reagan being “the great communicator” or whatever lie the mainstream news has been pumping all these decades. i saw this one a year or two ago from 1982 (early in his FIRST term, so they can’t blame the dementia), and there’s so much insanity happening within it, and ronnie is so hideously bad at being a communicator, that it should lay that lie about him to rest once and for all…

there’s so much wrong in this clip beyond reagan’s horrible speechmaking. the “run the government like a business” complete insanity, the diminishing of the office where THE FRICKIN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is receiving a big rubber check, a la publisher’s clearing house, in the white house, and then the insanity of him handing it to donald regan, head of merril lynch (!?!?!?!). all the way to the end where reagan jokes like w. bush did with a snicker about all the “cutting” that’s on the way (ha ha ha ha!). reagan was a horrible speaker compared to president barack hussein obama! no comparison.

Oh. My. God. When RR was elected president the first time, I was in elementary school, and even at the tender age of 9/10, I knew that this person was not who should be leading our country. Reagan’s first term should have been Jimmy Carter’s second. We were robbed.

No teleprompter!! But he read the whole thing. And who says you can’t blame demetia? I think he was on his way there from the beginning. Whoever it is that is following him is doing a much better job.

Was hoping to get some info from Amk as to why my cleanup sites aren’t working right. Since he isn’t here, off I go again. See you later, Obots.

No answers yet, D; checking to see if you did an all-nighter, but it looks like you (smartly) decided to give the body some rest.

Saved the best for last IMHO … at least for tonight (we’re probably gonna need a Part Deux for this thread sometime soon too) :-)

Goodnight Family! Hugs, fist bumps, and high-fives all around! I love you!

Another beautiful rendition of AMerica the Beautiful: Beyonce, in that beautiful, emotional concert during the inaugural festivities in january 2009. I just can’t see that video without getting teary eyed. There was magic in the air; relief, hope.

When I first saw this,,,for the FIRST time in my life,…I felt that this too is my country…

calls to mind this poem by Langston Hughes…

        I, too, sing America.

        I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
        When company comes,
        But I laugh,
        And eat well,
        And grow strong.

        Tomorrow,
        I’ll be at the table
        When company comes.
        Nobody’ll dare
        Say to me,
        “Eat in the kitchen,”
        Then.

        Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
        And be ashamed–

        I, too, am America.

        Langston Hughes

Good Morning, Hopef! I’m convinced my mind is ‘allergic’ to sleep. I wake up every 1/2/3 hours every single night! It used to annoy me but I have since accepted that it’s my ‘normal’. [I don't normally sign on in the night in the hope that I'll fall back to sleep quickly, which sometimes happen.]

Seems like Amk is not around this weekend (on a picnic, maybe?) and everyone else is resting or preparing for their long weekend, so off I go again.

My computer is so slooowwww – probably due to all the security stuff I’ve been trying to download – I could jog for minutes between commenting and it appearing on the screen!

i actually can’t believe no one else is around! I mean, how come you all can sleep and I can’t? Oh well, I’ll go and read a chapter or two, and see if THAT will put me back to sleep. Later!

:???: Peeking back in to see if anyone else dropped by
      .
      .
      .
      No? Sigh.

      /old camp song/

      ‘Nobody likes me.
      Everybody hates me.
Going to the garden to eat worms.
      Yum! Yum! Yum!
      Big, fat juicy worms
      Long, skinny, slimy ones
      Itsy bitsy, fuzzy-wuzzy worms
      Yum! Yum!

      Down went the first one.
      Down went the second one
Down went the theird little worm
      Yum! Yum! Yum!
      Big, fat juicy worms
      Long, skinny, slimy ones
      Itsy bitsy, fuzzy-wuzzy worms
      Yum! Yum!

      The first one was easy.
      The second one was cheesy
The third one got caught in my throat
      Yum! Yum! Yum!
      Big, fat juicy worms
      Long, skinny, slimy ones
      Itsy bitsy, fuzzy-wuzzy worms
      Yum! Yum!

My stomach in in a commotion.
I’ve got to lean over the rail.
I don’t want to dirty the ocean
So somebody bring me a pail.

      Come up! Come up!
Come up my dear supper ,
      Come…… /WHAT am I doing?

You know, i don’t know why stupid info from long ago keeps popping into my head. Maybe if I really go back to sleep good sense will return. Toodle-di-doo!

Good morning VC — if you’re still up! :-)

Wish I could help with your PC issue, but everything I do is by trial and error and so I never know what really worked.

Hopefully some of the more techno-savvy TODers will start dropping in soon.

I was reading were Angeline Jolie said that she wouldn’t talk to any NBC reporter after the messy what they got rid of Ann Curry. Wouldn’t it be nice if people tell ABC that they refuse to talk to any ABC reporters after the lying about the Benghazi emails, and ABC refusing to punish Jonathan Karl for his lies.
