Hey there all my O peeps!!! What a great getting up day again in the TOD corral. It’s in the low 30’s here in my neck of the woods with a windchill overnight at 32 degrees!! That’s FREEZING!!! It’s May 24th and it’s FREEZING!!!! Ugh…….

I think that’s PBO’s fault, as well as the fact that durable goods were up in April 3.3% after a 5.9% fall in March. Not to mention, 6 datapoints in a row have crushed expectations!!

It’s all his fault and I want better weather!!!

    • May 24, 2013 at 9:47 am

Dang, Cookemom, you made me skin my knee when you pushed me down to get here first. :)

Sorry bout that. I was moseying along in Twittertown when I saw the TOD logo about PBO’s commencement address. I clicked on the link and got the White House site. So I thought maybe I should just open my TOD tab to see what’s up. Lo and behold, there was Chips asking me to say something. So being the obliging person that I am, I made note of some stuffs, posted them, registered with Word Press and VOILA!!

I wasn’t trying to nudge you out, but looking at your time stamp, ummm, well, you weren’t exactly swift on your foots.

    • May 24, 2013 at 9:49 am

      Good Morning Cookemom. Congrats!

Freezing weather, but Barack Obama is still our President; a warm thought for the cold weather. :-)

As the school year comes to an end for many school districts, I would like to say thank you to the educators throughout the country and especially to TOD teachers. Your dedication and sacrifice on behalf of our children are greatly appreciated.

As a parent and substitute teacher, I have an even greater appreciation of what teachers have to deal with. I know that their jobs go so much beyond teaching. The goal posts are constantly moving and teachers are expected to do more and more even as their paychecks grow smaller and smaller. In their quest to fulfill their joy of teaching, educators put up with so much crap often with inadequate support from administrators and parents and at the expense of their own families. But they continue to reach deep within themselves to go before their students another day and hope that something in their lessons is being grasped and retained by the young minds in their care and that a life is being enriched.

So to all you educators….THANK YOU!!!!! YOU ARE REVERED for being the Miracle Workers that you are.

      And one of my favorites…

      May 24, 2013 at 10:24 am

Thanks so much for posting this…especially today. The kids last day of school was yesterday and when I go back to school today…it will be quiet and just us teachers there…getting our classrooms tucked away for the summer and turning in all our goodies to the office…. I have to share something that I got from the mom of the special needs child that I teach ( herself an educator that appreciates all that teachers do) I sat in my empty classroom yesterday afternoon, and balled my eyes out…yet felt such joy at the same time.

An old man had a habit of early morning walks along the beach. One day after a storm, he saw a human figure in the distance moving like a dancer. As he came closer he saw that it was a young woman and she was not dancing but was reaching down to the sand, picking up a starfish and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the woman, he asked, “Young lady, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”
The woman replied, ” The sun is up, the tide is going out. If I do not throw them back in, they will die.”

“But young lady, do you not realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You can not possibly make a difference!”

The young lady listened politely, paused, bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the sea, saying…..

“It made a difference for that one.”

This is why we all do what we do. Because if it makes a difference for only one, it means everything.

      • May 24, 2013 at 10:51 am

Making a difference, even for just the one, is what makes it all worthwhile.

And I am willing to bet that every ONE that you know about, there are many more that you don’t know about who are making positive achievements and are saying, whether verbally or mentally, that it was because of you. :-)

Thanks so much for this, I really needed. End of the year drama with students who played all year and are surprised that they do not meet the graduation requirements. The parents who enable them are coming and calling everyday expecting a miracle. This yearly mess is one of the reasons that I am retiring this year after 30 years of teaching.

      • May 24, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Many students have the attitude of entitlement. They want the accolades with little or no effort. We are also in an age of instant gratification. Students want to see the immediate benefit before they will become engaged. Gone are the days of learning for the sake of learning. And school systems as well as parents are accommodating this attitude. As a result, many GREAT teachers are becoming disenchanted.

In your 30 years of service, I’m sure that you have made a difference in the lives of many students. You have earned your retirement. Enjoy it! :-)

To bash your head in I hope. Remember near the end of the movie The Color Purple and Celie and Shug are talking and admiring the flowers and one of them says God must really get pissed if someone doesn’t admire the beauty he created. I am pissed this dumbass can’t appreciate the beauty just wants to destroy it….Thank God they’re not donuts he’d have his face full of them.

I hope this news is spread fast. I am hearing ads on the radio by the rwnj’s making money on a book to “how to survive obamacare” I am sure it’s full of lies and out to make money for the gop.

        May 24, 2013 at 10:12 am

I’ve seen the ads on YouTube as well. It’s not often I agree with Krugman, but in this instance, he’s right. The “surviving Obamacare” book will soon be in the $1 discount bins….

Krugman has been pro-ACA for quite awhile now. completely and conveniently forgetting how he savaged the President on this issue several years ago. A mea culpa would have been nice and intellectually honest. That being said, I’m glad to see his support.

This has been an exhausting 2 weeks for me I am so thankful for my faithful droid that I can check in to TOD and know that sanity abounds. As one of the dedicated lurkers, I thank all you that faithfully post and bring information.

    Happy, Happy Birthday zizi!!!

It is a beautiful sunny day here in MT. It is currently 35. Yesterday we did have snow in some areas and we had rain. We are thankful for any moisture we get. My lilacs are in full bloom. I love lilacs, I have 6 different varieties, white, lilac, dark purple, dark pink, light pink and a light yellow.

Now to listen to the President.

He is obviouisly looking to see just how much he and the EPA can do under their legitimate authority since the GOP in Congress isn’t going to let anything happen.

Thank you VC, yes, gradual improvement and holding, with daily measurable increase in mobility! Hurray! and as the pain decreases, my mental state and strength also increases, so am beginning to get it that I will fully rehabilitate! I decided after a month of not running the furnace, I would shut down the pilot yesterday. That was before I checked the long range weather forecast and saw these ‘cooler’ temps! Ah well, too bad for me, will just use the little space heaters as needed and keep the many interior doors closed. And wear a few more layers!

            May 24, 2013 at 12:06 pm

The news indeed sounds good – Keep it up!

I’ve turned my heater on and off a few times since ‘spring’ has started; fortunately I only have to move the switcher on my control to the right or left. This morning was the first in a while that I’ve had to do so, probably because I forgot (before going to bed) to shut the windows I had opened yesterday. Come to think of it, I haven’t changed my snow tires yet. Hmmmm.

Just sharing. I thought a few of you might agree with my rant.

    Scarborough, Maddow, Scahill, Chris Hayes…STFU!

I don’t agree with everything the President says or does, but this constant knit-picking is too much to bear. I’ll never agree with the concept of war, but I also know I receive no morning intelligence briefing. I cannot fathom the heart-wrenching decisions that must be made to try to assure that I am safe in my home. None of the decision made to kill can be easy, and yesterday I listened to a President acknowledge that fact. I heard him speak about the regrettable realities of war and his responsibility to the safety of America. For God’s sake, give the man a break, accept that he doesn’t have all the answers, but that you have far, far fewer than he does and for the love of Mike, just STFU!

I say let them keep talking. It motivates others. More speech is what are needed to trounce distorted speeches, lies, hate, etc. I appreciate what Social media helps those with facts do. Nothing is ever done in a vacuum. Our reaction, activism and idea help counter propaganda sold by ideologues and those with intend to demean and deceive.

I simply ask, they have been at this…..and their efforts to their Nightmare, resulted in the reelection of Pres Barack Obama.

The problem of gridlock is real and needs to be fixed. Presidents (Democratic or Republican) deserve to have the people working for them that they choose. Republican obstruction has slowed down nearly every nominee that President Obama has submitted. Republicans have corrupted the Founders’ intent. I want to make the Senate work again – that is my commitment.
