That was my very first thought – there is something about Women GOP Governors – it’s like they must hate themselves to be able to support the party that spends much of its time legislating against women. That hatred shows through – it shows in every appearance in the media.

She may have hung around to meet PBO, but she still has a long way to go to be for her own fellow Okies:

Gov. Mary Fallin says no to Medicaid expansion in Oklahoma

“Such an expansion would be unaffordable, costing the state of Oklahoma up to $475 million between now and 2020, with escalating annual expenses in subsequent years,” Fallin said in a statement. “It would also further Oklahoma’s reliance on federal money that may or may not be available in the future given the dire fiscal problems facing the federal government.”

Those figures were quickly disputed. The Oklahoma Policy Institute said expanded Medicaid could ultimately cost the state $28 million to $37 million a year in 2020.

GOP are so short sighted. Once you have a population getting preventative healthcare you have a healthier population, increase in medical jobs, and you costs go down. I doubt if things are working for the state now and it won’t seven years from now and it will only cost them more. The GOP thinking…endless wars, big tax cuts for corporations….no problem …..money to make life better for American citizens….no way we can’t afford that

Showing the IRS some love after witch hunt

The probe into the supposed ‘targeting’ of conservative groups overlooks the fact that the tax agency does a good job despite its meager resources.

There’s a purpose behind this show. For one thing, members of Congress are well aware that for the public, the IRS is “the easiest agency to hate,” as Ventry observes. So why not pile on? Indeed, the IRS show trial staged last week by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista) and his Committee on Oversight and Government Reform reminded me of the old “Far Side” cartoon by Gary Larson contrasting “What we say to dogs” (“Okay, Ginger! You stay out of the garbage! Understand, Ginger?”) with “What they hear” (“Blah, Ginger, blah blah blah blah, Ginger…”). In this case the lawmakers are assuming that the public will hear only “Blah blah IRS blah blah blah IRS….”

Ordinary taxpayers should be skeptical of this sort of theater. The last time the IRS was hauled over the coals for its supposed wrongdoing — in 1998, when the ostensible issue was the mistreatment of innocent individual taxpayers by revenue agents — Congress’ true underlying motive was to hamstring its enforcement program against corporations and wealthy taxpayers. And that’s precisely how things turned out.

What’s the underlying motive today? Most likely to hobble the agency’s scrutiny of political organizations claiming legal advantages as “social welfare” groups under section 501(c)4 of the tax code, which allows them to keep their donors secret. Indeed, during last week’s hearing, Issa almost gave the game away by observing that the (c)4 designation covers “organizations that perhaps all of us have grown to like.” Sure, because they funnel campaign cash to politicians on both sides of the aisle, anonymously.

Hi Everyone! Wanted to pop in to say a quick hello. Missed you guys yesterday as we had a bit of a health scare with my Dad. Mom had an ambulance rush him to the ER yesterday after he experienced shortness of breath and had so little energy he could barely sit up. Thankfully he’s stabilized. So far we know he’s suffering from extreme low white blood count and a pretty several urinary infection. They’re still evaluating tests results and it’s likely he’ll spend at least one more night in hospital.

I came home for a little break and a change of clothes before returning. Today is Mom & Dad’s 54th wedding anniversary. Not quite the romantic day they had in mind, but we’re blessed that they’re both together. My family feels blessed that would had emergency responders we could count on for help; a high quality hospital nearby; competent, dedicated healthcare professionals taking care of Dad and the rest of the family, as well as countless more “conveniences” that we in this country often take for granted until their absence is made plain. We are immensely grateful today and every day.

As the nation commemorates the solemn occasion of Memorial Day and the President’s visit to Moore, Oklahoma, I wish all of you peace and love.

    • May 26, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Will keep your father, and all of you, Dudette, in my thoughts. Please wish your mom & dad a Happy Anniversary – for all of you to be together is what matters most!!!

wishing the people of Oklahoma can find some solace from the presence and words of PBO.

the practical help already arrived in the form of volunteers, charity organizations, state & city level teams, and FEMA.

now the additional emotional help is on the ground in the person of PBO

    • May 26, 2013 at 2:05 pm

While the OK. , Governor Fallon probably hates our president to the depths of darkness, President Obama overcomes personal animus, directed at him, to provide empathy, comfort and solace. Which is why the MSM’s construction of PBO being arrogant and aloof just doesn’t fly with their lying eyes. Our president is amazing…beautiful in soul and centered in his values and sense of self.

President Obama’s commencement speech at Morehouse still resonates…

    http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-lehrer-obama-speech-race-20130526,0,4820845.story

Just in case those in the audience and the rest of America didn’t get his point, the president laid out the implications of the new “open doors”:

“We’ve got no time for excuses. Not because the bitter legacy of slavery and segregation have vanished entirely; they have not. Not because racism and discrimination no longer exist; we know those are still out there. It’s just that in today’s hyperconnected, hypercompetitive world, with millions of young people from China and India and Brazil — many of whom started with a whole lot less than all of you did — all of them entering the global workforce alongside you, nobody is going to give you anything that you have not earned.”

Couple of the unexpected – from the link

      3. Georgia. The Georgia legislature killed a bill at the end of the last legislative session that would have allowed concealed carry in churches, courthouse, and college campuses.
      7. Wyoming. The Wyoming legislature, which can be quite hostile to gun regulation, voted down a bill authorizing teachers to carry guns.

Last week, the Virginia Republican party nominated Ken Cuccinelli for governor, in an election to be held later this year. Just three years ago, in his current job as Attorney General of Virginia, Cuccinelli launched one of the most outrageous attacks on an academic scientist that I’ve seen in many decades. His actions would not be out of place in a totalitarian state such as the Soviet Union, or perhaps in the 1950′s McCarthyism era, when many Americans were blacklisted, denied jobs, and even fired because of their political views. But in a country where the freedom to speak is a fundamental right, Cuccinelli’s actions are frightening.

This is from forbes, no less.

I have conditioned myself to never speak when angry and the man made me see RED! I spent a lot of time tuning him out, so I wouldn’t put him out. Funny thing…when my husband was alive, we used to even go on vacations together. We’ve been activists together. Then a funny thing happened…Barack Obama was elected and while their wealth increased (not because of the President, of course), they suddenly became Republicans.

President Obama invites his inaugural poet Richard Blanco for intimate chat

    • 108 jacquelineoboomer
      May 26, 2013 at 3:02 pm

      From Richard:

“The president has exactly the same personality you see on TV — there wasn’t an awkward moment,” says Blanco, who also admitted he tried to get an answer about how President Obama discovered him.

“I sort of got an answer, but didn’t want to pry,” says Blanco. “He said that my work was brought to his attention. I had a romantic vision that somehow he stumbled upon my work. But they brought me to his attention, and he said something like, ‘I’ll take that guy.’”

Blanco says he knew to stop prying right then, so he could keep some of his romantic vision alive and savor the moment. After all, he just learned that the president is also an avid lover of poetry and spoken word.

They hate the smart kid. Obama projects a sense of superiority to these reporters. He makes them feel small and excluded and less than. And they resent him for it.

No-one can project superiority towards you – unless you let them do so. No-one in Oklahoma felt “inferior” as the President gave them comfort in their time of need. The media(R,USA) so miss the dumb of GWB – he made them look intelligent, if they spoke other than the GOP lies they would realize that the President has so much to offer them – ignorant bigots that they are.

And then I saw this comment on booman – I agree with Mrs Roosevelt

“… while reading your post, I kept thinking of Eleanor Roosevelt, who said something like “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

    • May 26, 2013 at 4:16 pm

But this quote from MoDo’s column infuriated me:
‘Robert Draper, the author of “Dead Certain: The Presidency of George W. Bush,’perused the library with me and observed: ‘So 43 grew up entitled but could display a commoner’s touch, while 44 grew up hardscrabble yet developed this imperial mien. The former is defined by incuriosity, the latter by self-absorption. One is a late-blooming artist, the other a precocious writer. They can each make you kind of miss the other.’”

Don’t know much about Draper, but he seems like @RyanLizza, who has seized the James “traitor” Rosen story with a vengeance, as if it’s the most pressing concern facing the nation. Newsflash: most Americans don’t care, and those that do hear that the Administration got a warrant for phone records… and join the ranks of those who don’t care.

MSM is STILL pushing the idea that PBO is like Nixon, in that “Nixon never went into court and got a search warrant against a reporter who ‘conspired’ with a leaker.”

Duh… Nixon was above the law, this president, not so much. Sheesh. I’ll actually be glad when these lazy self-absorbed scribes go off to the Hamptons for their summer vacay.

Never noticed the “commoner’s touch” where GWB was involved. He always looked way out of his depth talking to any of his constituents.

“Or, maybe, you have just enough depth to realize that the president thinks you’re shallow. And you know that he is right. And you hate him for it.”

    ABOUT FREAKING TIME!

    http://thinkprogress.org/media/2013/05/26/2063231/cbs-climate-change/

Over the last few years, media outlets have been among the worst offenders maintaining virtual radio silence on how extreme weather patterns may be the result of manmade climate change. But CBS broke this so-called “climate silence” on Face the Nation Sunday, hosting a panel of meteorologists and climatologists to discuss the floods, droughts, and tornadoes that have plagued the country with increasing ferocity.
The panel — consisting of CBS meteorologist David Bernard, Chief Climatologist for Climate Central Heidi Cullen, TIME journalist Jeffrey Kluger, and President of the American Meteorological Society, Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd — didn’t shy away from addressing the overall patterns that indicate global climate change is driven by human production of carbon dioxide. “We’re getting a level of consensus on thousands of peer reviewed studies over decades that have established the human contribution to climate change,” Kluger told host Bob Schieffer.

Hi All! Had a spectacular yesterday here in SF Bay Area. My lovely son graduated from univ. and, with Theo’s kind permission, I was able to whistle & blubber all at the same time! Quite a feat! It was so great to see so many young graduates, bright eyes, ready for the world. I loved seeing a truly diverse graduating body!

Have a superb Sunday & catch you later! :)

One can ONLY Hope…..a Daily Beast Story at Mediabistro is quite an eye opener, at least, for my kind of Wish….ing Really hard for it to be a reality. Can Al Jazeera America help save American (TV/Cable) Journalism? Hmm? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Gallup and Vanderbilt both have reports that America is shifting and Leaning Left? Hmm? Well, Gallup is Not known to lean left. So will the corporate media now pay attention to issues that ail USA……Climate change, Marriage Equality, Civil Rights, Voting Rights, Health Care, Education, Healthy Living, Infrastructural system, etc?

    • May 26, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Gallup just called me for the first time ever. They asked if I believed in God, a higher power, UFO’s, ghosts and spirits. They wanted to know which I thought was more important…the economy or immigration and whether or not I thought the President is doing a good job. There were other questions, but I hung up understanding why they fail so miserably at polling.

Oh mine, how I wished you had stayed on. Your answers would have given the questioner a taste of what a smart Liberal is all about. Gallup and their corporate power hungry crowd need to know that We are not going anywhere.

I tried listening to some of MSNBC Live today, but I couldn’t listen to much of it because there was no fairness anywhere toward President Obama. All it was is people who had things slanted against POTUS. I did heard ex-Senator Bob Dole saying something about this stupid ass party. Dole said that they need to hang a sign outside their door “Republicans Need Repair”

The film’s website summarizes the film, and reveals facts pertaining to the efforts of Koch Industries and Exxon to dispel and dispute the science supporting climate change, as well as their role in the implementation of the controversial Citizens United ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
According to the film’s official site:
“Millions are spent each year by oil and related interests to fund the think tanks, groups, scientists and politicians waging what the film deems a campaign of deceit regarding the science of climate change and its dire impact on the planet.”
