Chat away, will catch up with today’s newsie stuff later – thank you again to the miiiIIIIIIIiiighty UT and LovelyPlains for today’s mega posts!
Yes! Hiya 57, hellooooo everyone.
I’m NEVER first. I’d ask you to bake me a cake, but I just got my stomach functioning again……..
Oi!!! That’s hurtful!!!!!
I’ve seen your kitchen, young lady. I know you’re busy being the Blog Tyrant Supreme, but still……
Well, then, make me a cake!
If you’re not careful I will!
And don’t think those cute little kitty eyes work on me. I’m a dog person. (okay, they’re working on me a little)
THE RISE AND FALL
There once was a lady by the lake
For special occasions she’d offer to bake
Her soda was old
And oven too cold
Which left her with a very flat cake.
Okay, Ms. Chips is off the hook, because this is better!
57! You are first! Congrats, honey bunch.
Makes up for cookemom bumping me out of line with PBO yesterday, creating traffic jams and all. Being first at TOD is almost as good…
I am impressed with Tyler Perry.
Thanks for posting it, Chips.
I’m not a Tyler Perry fan. I abhor the way he portrays women.
I am sorry you feel that way. Those who have spoken about him, publically have said good things about him. Thank goodness, at TOD we can agree to disagree.
Oh, I’m sorry. I think he’s probably a wonderful person. He seems thoughtful and giving. I suppose I should have qualified my statement….I don’t like his work.
He certainly divides opinion, FayPax – was just reading up on what some of his critics/supporters have said:
Criticism of Perry’s work focuses mainly on a perception that it perpetuates negative racial stereotypes.
Despite praising Perry in 2006, in 2009 director Spike Lee criticized his work when interviewed by Ed Gordon on Our World with Black Enterprise, saying, “Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic endeavors but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is ‘coonery’ and buffoonery. I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we can do better … I see these two ads for these two shows [Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and House of Payne] and I am scratching my head … We got a black president and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?” When Gordon cited Perry’s success among black audiences and asked Spike if Perry wasn’t just giving black America what they wanted, he responded, “We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John Singleton [created his films], people came out to see Boyz n the Hood, but when he did Rosewood, nobody showed up. So a lot of this is on us. You vote with your pocketbook, your wallet. You vote with your time sitting in front of the idiot box, and the man has a huge audience, Tyler’s very smart. …We shouldn’t think that Tyler Perry is going to make the same film that I am going to make, or that John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee [would make]. As African Americans, we’re not one monolithic group so there is room for all of that, but at the same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and it harkens back to Amos ‘n’ Andy.”
….. In February 2011, actor Idris Elba caused controversy when he criticised Perry. Elba, who has previously starred in one of Perry’s romantic comedies (Daddy’s Little Girls), lamented the trend for cross-dressing caricatures of black characters – a phenomenon many would recognize from films such as the The Klumps and Big Momma’s House series – describing it as “buffoonish”. Elba maintains the view that change should occur in Hollywood to address the recent under-representation of black actors in Hollywood and the controversy it has caused. Elba said: “Imagine a film such as Inception with an entire cast of black people – do you think it would be successful?” Elba asks. “Would people watch it? But no one questions the fact that everyone’s white. That’s what we have to change.”
Cultural critic Touré stated in an April 21, 2011 NPR All Things Considered interview that “Tyler Perry is perhaps the worst filmmaker in Hollywood” and was quoted as saying earlier that Perry is the “KFC of black cinema”.
…..Goldie Taylor, of The Grio and MSNBC, stated in an April 21, 2011 NPR All Things Considered interview regarding Perry’s target audience: “I don’t think Tyler Perry is talking to Touré. I don’t think he’s talking to me, but I know that he’s speaking directly to my mother, my sister, my cousins and meeting them at their point of need, and that’s what art and filmmaking is about.”
I was just clarifying my statement. You mindreader, you.
Damn, you’re good!!
Kind of surprised that Idris Elba criticized Perry after starring in his movie, Daddy’s Little Girls, which I loved. But Perry cannot please everyone, I guess. Hopefully, he’ll take the constructive criticism and make better movies. Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn’t make many movies with Black stars so Perry’s films are one of the few venues for them.
Well, as an old white woman there are parts of his work I really like, and parts that I really don’t like. As far as what I know of him as a man, I really really like him. I would love to see that whole interview. I don’t get Oprah’s channel. Oprah interviewing Tyler Perry would be something to see. Oprah interviewing Barack Obama, would of course be better.

Tesla is continuing making things a tad better.
AP is reporting that they are planning on adding Charging stations.
Tesla promises to add charging stations

DETROIT — Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. promises to boost the number of fast-charging stations in the U.S. and Canada to make cross-country travel by electric car possible in the next year.
The company said Thursday that by the end of next month, it will triple the number of charging stations it runs from the current eight, and the number will go to around 100 in the coming year, putting stations within reach of almost the entire populations of both countries.
The pace of construction is about twice as fast as the company had previously announced.
Could Romney have been more wrong? Hehe.
And if we had a functioning government, we could facilitate making electric cars affordable. That’s what’s holding everything back. But then again, that’s their evil plan…..
Don’t even mention it. Can you imagine how we would be booming if we had a functioning government?
It makes me weep. Literally.
Thrilled to bits to see you way out on top there, 57!
Better I sprint than you do, girlfriend. You have to take care of yourself. How ya doing?
Can you imagine how fast the Earth would willingly rebalance if we cut way back on emissions?
57andFemale congrats on 1st

I love reading stories like this. For the life of me, I just can’t understand why some people need so much. Why does one person need billions of dollars, 10 houses and 50 cars?
Because, Faypax, it is the same as owning a big gun. It makes their penis seem bigger! HUMPFFFF! HUMPFFFF!
Aloof…..CW and Beltway detractors charge? I pity these fools for Honest Respected Historians will Not be so forgen for these haters.
President Obama made it about Mr. Tyler Perry. That was just perfect.
He always turn praise to the other person. One of the many reasons that so many love him.
If only 15% of the American public considers the AP/DOJ affair a scandal, I’d say the press better get over themselves and start doing their jobs correctly! I’m tired of them.
My daughter said today she and her husband never watch network news. Her husband has Al Jazeera and BBC on his phone, and that’s what they watch. They’re thrilled AJ is coming to the U.S. They’re upper 30s, low 4os in age, and I think represent their generation and anyone under 50.
Their arrogance is astounding. I can’t rationalize why they are suggesting that the Attorney General should not be able to review the rules regarding the media. They say he cannot be objective. But they can write the story about journalism with all the objectivity in the world. They’re idiots!
As a little old man told me in the grocery store yesterday, “They got it in for him, but he ain’t gonna git got.”
I like that old man!
My son’s 44 and he’s now limiting his news to BBC and NPR. He’s come a long way!
Are you safe from the storms I’m hearing about? Take care.
So far none in our immediate area….we’ll keep the TV on for info soon. Skies above us are clear…..Thanks for asking.
Heard there were warnings. Thing of you.
I love this!! What a great guy we have as President of these United States!!

I doubt the Attorney General gives a hoot. He strikes me as the type that will stand pat when the world is against him if he believes he’s right.
That’s not the point. The point is that the media deserves mockery and disdain.
You’ll get no argument from me about that. The more I think about my exchange with my journalist daughter, the more agitated I get. I feel like telling her to take those degrees back and get me a refund. The media is a joke.
It’s all good. I think it’s hard for anyone out there to not automatically defend his/her chosen profession when they staunchly believe in the tenets of said profession. I think it might be hard for her to initially accept that journalists are fallible and the recent events with ABC and Benghazi, etc. are bringing it home to her more forcefully and that’s a bitter pill to swallow.
I say, just be patient with her, present her with the evidence, and let her know she has a duty to always do well by her profession, check her facts, and report the truth.
It’ll work out in the end.
Oh. My God, this man is an idiot:
When Cooper asked McCain how weapons would be prevented from falling into the hands of extremists, the senator said extremist fighters compose a small fraction of Syria’s rebel forces: 7,000 pro-al Qaeda fighters from the al-Nusra front among some 100,000 insurgents.
“Every single day, more and more extremists flow in … but they still do not make up a sizable portion,” McCain told Cooper. “We can identify who these people are. We can help the right people.”
That’s certainly optimistic of him. He himself can’t identify who the good and the bad people are during his own trips meant to encourage U.S. arms shipments, but he’s pretty positive (or just not as concerned as he professed to be) that the extremists, who both are a small number and who are “just so good” at fighting, won’t be getting their hands on the heavy weapons he’s supposing we start handing out.
McCain makes me ill. Ever since he fought so hard to have his records sealed from when was a POW and then fought with every breath he had to stop the United States from looking for POW’s, he has just lost all credibility with me. That was so long ago, it means he never had any. He’s still trying to prove himself because of his failures during the Vietnam War.
he was a media creation. McCain was never the man the PR made him out to be. All of that became startling clear in 2008. I think the full-on nastiness that we see now is the real McCain.
McAngry is an arse. A total idiot.
This is how I liked it when pres Obama schooled him at the WH.
Aren’t we relieved that the American people were sensible enough not to have voted for McCain and Palin in 2008? We dodged a bullet.
I guess that’s why McCain and his GOP cohorts in Congress are afraid of releasing the 100 or so prisoners still trapped in Gitmo?

Ok, I have ten minutes before my training starts, so a quick dine & dash.
When the shootout in Boston was occurring, and the only way to get news was to tune in to local news streaming, or be on Twitter, the national media died that night. Now, the fact that it can’t gin up a “scandal” to bring down the black guy, the nails are being hammered into the coffin. It’s quite delicious.
Yes, and the parts of the national media that didn’t die that night died in the ensuing several nights. They’re the walking dead now; they just won’t admit it.
Enjoy your day!
I have been having similar feelings, but thought I was by myself. It has been disturbing. Good to hear it from others.
Remember this One for the angry old man, McShame: He knew where and how to get OBL.
Oh, Bill, you are not alone. It’s sad, really, how many people feel this way!
And they did not do themselves proud in Moore either. The locals were once again better than the nationals.
The daughter of one of my colleagues works for the local CBS affiliate. She was at the site quite a bit. She was astounded that Anderson Cooper and Scott Pelley used teleprompters to say anything, and kept giving wrong statistics because they were on their teleprompter! She gave her on air report…..no teleprompter, just knowledge of what was happening. She told her mother she saw Sanjay Gupta about six feet away from her, just staring at her while she reported. When she finished, he came over to her and told her how impressed he was with the way she reported and spoke. I guess she just looked at him in surprise……That’s my job, she said. The national people only came Tuesday, then left. The locals have been very good carrying the story.
How very interesting, carolyn, once again “from the scene.” Thanks!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha….I know right? I had tears pouring down. I went back and read it for the second time and it was even funnier.
The last “tweet” from Barack Obama was bananas!
The last one put me over the edge, I’m still wiping away the tears!!!!!!!
Ok that is hilarious. You do have to have a certain sense of humor. But
This is hilarious.
Honest Hopefruit, my sides are in SEVERE pain!
LMAO Chips. LOL! And the first PBO tweet is just as funny as the others – thanks ut for sharing with us. I needed this laugh
Wouldn’t the President just LOVE to tell off somebody like this (possibly a Republican, ya think?) on Twitter! Or maybe he’s not as bad as we all are!

I hope all the people who wouldn’t vote to recall him because they didn’t believe in recalls are really happy with that decision.
Dotster, I know now why The Onion joked about giving up because they can’t ‘out-parody’ the GOP any more – this is astonishing.
Wow, I am sure a lot of the folks who voted to keep him in office will not be happy with this move. I hear Randi talking about this. What next?
more on sec hagel’s stop in hawaii:
‘ Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel told troops in Hawaii this morning that the policy to “rebalance” forces to the Pacific recognizes that “opportunities in the world are centered in the Pacific area,” and stressed that the U.S. intends to partner heavily with other nations.
Unlike the post-World War II period, “we don’t hold all the cards this time — and by the way that’s good,” Hagel told about 200 service members at Hangar 19 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
He took questions from service members.
Asked by one if budget cutbacks will mean changes to retirement and other benefits for service members, Hagel said, “We are going to be seeing budgets that are less and less. We have to look at personnel costs because that represents the biggest part. (But) you take care of your people. It doesn’t matter how sophisticated your equipent is if you can’t get good people and keep good people and train good people” ‘

Luckily, I muted MSNBC after Martin’s show. Harold Ford? Good golly, since I never watch Morning Joke anymore, I forgot he was still around.
I think you’d be glad you turned it down. Chris Matthews is just plain silly.
Yes, although I used to watch him all the time, haven’t caught his show in eons! Either he or I have grown. I pick me. He’s a fool.
Ha ! I was just going to post that I had to mute his ranting again.
Muting going on, all over the place!
Maybe it’s me, but has the legislative process changed? Sherrod Brown, and I like him, is on talking about how the President needs to introduce a jobs bill and stop allowing the Republicans to control the narrative. Why can’t he write one?
A very good question. The fools in Congress need a Civics lesson to remind them what their jobs are, per the Constitution.
I saw that interview with Tyler Perry. Beautiful. When he was telling Oprah the story about his time with POB; my heart leaped out and said,” Mr. Tyler Perry, welcome into the space that you were gifted to have. And Mr. President recognized also that he was blessed to be in the space of a gifted young man who can and will change the world so many, many, many, many young men like he and President Barack Obama can dream, work very hard, and spread their seeds of goodness far beyond the tears and laughter of times that still very, very much live in the minds and hearts of some of our aunts, uncles, who lived some of the characters that Mr. Perry writes about from his mind growing up in Louisiana as a young man, and seeing daily some of the hurt, pain, and struggles.
My great nieces did not live this, but they hear their mothers and great- uncles, and great-aunts tell the history through the lives that we were faced with. However, we always try to show them that there is a way to move forward with lessons to be learned and lives to be changed because people like Mr. Tyler Perry’s gifts are being used to move us forward. ( And by the way, we had to laugh on the porch, in our livingrooms, in the church choir-rooms and cry at the same time. Those moments helped us to heal so many of the wounds from the hurtful pain that we went through.
I am so elated that I took those aprons and uniforms, and swollen feet of my precious mother and ironing boards of my precious maternal grandmother and precious hands, sweating shirts and shoes of my precious grandfather and moved them onto another space of opportunity to put all of that hard labor to work into another chapter of my life through: math books, science books, English books, P.E. classes, choir classes, government classes, piano lessons, gardening in my grandparents yard, washing clothes, learning how to cook in my grandparents kitchen, setting the table for dinner with table cloths and hard ironed cloth napkins.(I hate ironing to this day.) But in the background was EDUCATION. EDUCATION. You are going to college.
When I see the maids in one of Mr. Perry’s new shows, I tear up because that was my precious mother. I lived the moments over everytime I walk by her photos in my home daily. But I also see my maternal grandparents photos next to my mother’s and then I recall how sitting on their porch hearing how a young man was dragged behind a truck in front of their home. I paused. Then I look over to the right of their photos and see my brother , my sister’s two daughters, my great-nieces and think on where we travelled inspite of my grandparents and parents experiences and mine, and I say; “I have to smile, cry, pray, meditate, laugh, and work hard to dream like they did because each day I am walking on the stones laid for us to step out on with pride, hard work, and big dreams.”
So did Mr. Tyler Perry and for sure, so did our 44th President, Barack Obama. I cry with joy to be alive and hear Mr. Tyler Perry share that story with me and the world. His space in the Beast with President Barack Obama. Thanks to all of us who help make that moment possible. Now let the critics write and speak on. That is the freedom we have, but we must not try to break a spirit when we can beautifully see things in a different good way and still be joyful for the creative mind.
(((((((((((((((((((( Thanks to Chips, we made that moment with Mr. President and Mr. Tyler Perry happen.)))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ
Oh my goodness, what a glorious picture you’ve painted. The images are robust and strong and kind and forgiving.
I’m working very hard on living with more compassion. I know how hard it is to strike out and be creative all on your own, to implement ideas and dreams and just hope that others will enjoy the same pleasure as you and all the hard work that goes into it. So whatever motivates an artist to express their vision, PBO is saying: THANK GOD America is a place where you can hope and you can take that step into the light to fulfill your promise.
I so love the joy you bring here, HZ.
Meta, “So whatever motivates an artist to express their vision, POB is saying: THANK GOD America is a place where you can hope and you can take that step into the light to fulfill your promise.”
I love you brilliant speakers, thinkers, and writers, meta!!! You said it so beautifully. Thank you. I think you are pretty darn good at living that “more” compassion. (((((( Blessings to you my dear neighbor.))))))HZ
