Around for now, but set to do errands. Just rejoicing in a clear blue sky, cool temps, and the light north wind that has blown the humidity out. Humidity is the devil that brings tornadoes. In the spring and summer, north wind is our fair wind.
Glad the President is golfing. Hope he gets to relax some.

Everyone have a good weekend, especially those who are recovering from surgery.

You have yourself a calm weekend, Carolyn! This has been one ‘busy’ period in your corner and even while wishing a speedy recovery for those hardest hit in OK, I am happy that you have been able to stay safe.

Isn’t it a great review, SW? TOD-village is so fortunate to have such talented ‘reporters’, each with his/her own strengths. Thank you LP for this gathering of the past week’s events!

I don’t know the reason but for the past couple of days or so pictures here have seemed so much sharper and clearer, it’s an extra treat to go back and look at them more than once.

What took you so long, Nena? Patience is a virtue that I got very little of because I didn’t want to wait in the lineup. CONFESSION: Between the silence at the end on the last thread and the beginning of this one I was wondering what I had missed in terms of instructions. ;)

Hey Nena, maybe you can help: it is my understanding that one must register with worldpress.com in order to post here(and not simply reply. I have been trying to register for the last 2 weeks and it keeps telling me that I will receive an activation email which I have yet to receive. When I try to re-register it tells me that my email is in use and to wait for the email. Is this customary.

I am sorry, Layla, but Ms. Chips is the proprietor of this wonderful Oasis, the TOD establishment…..blog post…..she is the Only one that can answer that question. I registered here in either 2009 or 2010, latest 2011. I just don’t remember. So if I were to be bumped off accidentally, I don’t even remember how to get back in….for it has been such a long time again.

We have awesome bt (sweetly known and nicknamed as Blog Tyrants ;)); namely: Amk4Obama, LovelyPlains, UT, LL and I believe I have missed one more….so forgive me…….My memory is not as sharp as when I was younger……Not over Five-0 yet ;).

So Layla, to make this long story short……I don’t know if your 2 weeks wait is customary or not.
I hope that you will get an answer soon-ish ;) Our lady Chips is worth it…… be patient. She will get back to you

Thanks so much for this, LP! One week. This is amazing….we don’t even know the things he handles behind the scenes:) I am more and more grateful and in awe of this extraordinary man every single day. We live in amazing times.

I’m psyching myself to go run some errands. It’s the time of the year when we Phoenicans turn into little vampires…we only come out at night because the days are too darn hot! Working on 108 today…not a cloud in the sky (as usual)…..the 90’s seemed so nice…..

Will check back when I get back….just relaxing in the air conditioned house….don’t even want to deal with the car….. I’ll have to suck it up and get it done!

Thanks again, LP. Awesome job, as usual!!

    • June 1, 2013 at 4:02 pm

I taught for two years in Hotevilla on the Hopi Reservation. I remember going down to visit friends in Phoenix in the early summer. It was 106 degrees at 6:00 at night. Of course it was ‘dry heat’ so we Michiganders, used to humidity, did not take it seriously. We went and played tennis, etc., until I realized my wire-rimmed glasses were beginning to burn my face and my shoe soles were melting. We spent most of the rest of the evening gulping gallons of water, trying to replace the fluid we’d lost. Actually the only time we could tell we were sweating ( well I, being a lady, was ‘glowing’ – quite brightly too!) was when we’d drive a distance in the car. We got out, the front of us was dry as a bone and our backs were saturated it hadn’t had a chance to evaporate! Loved Phoenix, though. I did my student teaching on the Salt River Pima Papago Indian Reservation near Scottsdale..

VC, I think Congress is on another of their multi-week vacations. They are in session less than a third of the year, but make room for “Meet the Press” (etc.) camera time as often as possible.

MSM and Congress are both worthless, but we unfortunately depend on them to legislate and provide “news.”

The only thing I can think of is the huge mess they help create with George W. Bush. Leaving for this POTUS to try to clean up, while they throw every stumbling block in his way. Why don’t the media, folks like Chris Matthews ask John Boehner were are the jobs, jobs, jobs he promise he was going to focus on?

The trending topic today on Twitter is Turkey (protests).

For some reason, CNN keeps CNN International underwraps. CNN International was excellent during the incomprehensibly destrructive Japan tsunami in 2011. CNN fulfilled its obligation to continue to inform viewers not on EST of updates from Japan by airing CNN International starting about 8:00 or 9:00 pm Pacific time).

As I remarked once before, you do choose to eat weird food (cheesy puffs, onion rings, and-I-can’t-remember-what from last time) in the oddest quantities. You obviously paid little attention to the home-ec classes the Sisters offered. (Of course, neither did I). Maybe I should try talking LL into speeding up his food delivery service to your house before you harm yourself. Hmmm.

      • June 1, 2013 at 4:31 pm

“Maybe I should try talking LL into speeding up his food delivery service to your house before you harm yourself.”

That might be my only hope VC, but I’d be half afraid he’d send me things like sauteed tree bark.

My onion rings were delicious, I just should have stopped after 126.

But that one wasn’t sauteed, CC. LL was tired and in a rush that day. Give him another chance.

‘However, edible barks, roots, and saps are highly nutritious and have saved lives in survival situations. (For information on wild greens of winter, see Edible Green Plants of Winter.)

              Tree Barks

The barks that provide nourishment include pine, sweet (black) birch, spruce, hemlock (the evergreen, not the poisonous plant), and slippery elm. The edible portion is the inner bark, the soft, living layer between the protective outer bark and the hard wooden core. The inner bark is paper-thin, so a large surface area is required to provide a meal. Slippery elm bark peels away easily from the wood, and then the outer bark must be peeled from the inner bark. In the case of other trees, it ‘

Parties prepare to reverse rhetoric on ‘nuclear option’ for judicial nominees

Norman J. Ornstein | National Journal
    May 29, 2013

    —————————–

Watching Sen. Chuck Grassley this week rail against President Obama for “court packing” made me laugh out loud. I laughed for several reasons. One was wondering whether a senior senator and longtime member of the Judiciary Committee really had no idea what court packing is, or was he reaching for new heights of disingenuousness: How could a move by a president simply to fill long-standing existing vacancies on federal courts be termed court packing?
    .
    .
I remain deeply uneasy about a nuclear option, even as I condemn the unprecedented obstructionist tactics employed in the Senate (which were also condemned last week by Bob Dole and lamented by John McCain) and call for deeper reforms, especially on nominations, in Senate rules. The fallout from such a move is unknown but would be substantial and deleterious. It would be far better to return to regular order, and to the use of filibusters as rare events, not routine ones. But if senators who know better–like Lamar Alexander, Bob Corker, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, and Saxby Chambliss–jump when McConnell tells them and continue to obstruct nominations, they should expect to reap the whirlwind. And they, and their colleagues, will be the ones responsible for the damage done.

I’m trying to watch hockey—–not a hockey fan (altho I was quite the ice skater in my day, but not the same thing)—-but think I should tune in because the Chgo Blackhawks are playing in some big time game—–but it’s tough. I can never see the puck or follow the puck—-so it just looks like a bunch of guys zooming messily and purposelessly around the ice—–crashing into the wall, crashing into each other, falling down on the ice—-it’s a sloppy sight, I tell ya. I don’t know how long I can stick with it——maybe just check on the score later. Puck it.

darn… I forgot the game was on. I was introduced to hockey in my teens when I babysat a family of 5 boys ages 3-13 years old. All I could say each evening was, ‘that poor woman’. Yet, she had the most easy, laid back disposition in a person I’d ever seen. Now, looking back, she was probably on some mind altering mellowing goodie drug.

This is one of the reasons that the GOP/MSM/EmoLeft are going after the DOJ.

HEADLINE: That hopey changey thing at the Department of Justice

// In Meridian Mississippi, where 4 of every 10 kids lives below the poverty line the public schools have been routinely jailing black children for offenses like: wrong color socks….In a display of what Rand Paul would probably find unconstitutional Federal tyranny, the Department of Justice sued the school district, the police, and the local courts. The schools caved first and in March signed a consent order. //

I agree, no disrespect to any other First Lady, but I agree 100% about her being the best First Lady n my lifetime.

I totally concur, anniebella. I feel that our First Lady is and will continue to reach out to so many people in this beautiful nation. She comes into our lives in sooooooooooooooo many beautiful and lovely ways. It is so refreshing. I also love the history that she is placing at the door of so many young people.

She uses her many gifts daily to enrich our lives in so many ways, IMO. I also have no disrespect to any of the previous First Ladies. They were and will go down in history as our First Ladies. However, this First Lady is the best in my lifetime.

I know there will be more, but I am so grateful to be living in this history where we can see her doing so many wonderful things for our nation. We love you, our beautiful, brilliant, and compassionate First Lady.HZ
