Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it’s time for real Democrats to publicly divorce the “emoprogs.” Contrary to the repeated claims by the media, the “emoprogs” are not the base of the Democratic Party.

Oh, Dotster, I’m sick to the very core of this senseless destruction of life. No family should have to go through this. Where is the daily outrage, the daily pressure on Congress that collectively sits on its rear and does nothing? Why does the media focus on faux scandal after faux scandal and this constant threat to the very existence of our children gets a big shrug. Priorities are so terribly misplaced in this country that I sometimes despair of their ever being set right. Please, let this child, another innocent, survive.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/06/opinion/the-split-between-the-states.html?hp

On Medicaid, education and many other issues, the map of the United States is becoming a patchwork of conscience and callousness. People on one side of a state line have access to health care, strong public schools and colleges, and good transportation systems, while those on the other side do not. The breakdown of a sense of national unity in Washington is now reflected across the country, as more than two dozen states begin to abandon traditions of responsible government.

    • 36 jackiegrumbacher
      June 6, 2025 at 8:04 am

Honestly, df, this kind of good governing/non governing map should be widely viewed and imprinted in people’s mind, although I would also add, “women friendly,” to the list of good governing states. I would love to see people vote with their feet (or moving trucks) and shift in massive numbers to the good states. Certainly young, talented women graduating from college should recognize where opportunity, growth and respect lies for them. At points in our history, massive numbers of people migrated for economic opportunity. I’ve no doubt we’ll start to see that again. Unfortunately those that remained in the Dark Ages states will sink further into poor education, poor health and poor economic opportunity.

Republicans are just going to keep leaking stuff about the 800k employees in the federal government. If anybody is doing crazy stuff in or off duty, it will get leaked. First, it’s cable cat nip, second it makes Administration look bad.
It’s a strategy designed to shield them for not having any policies that will reach out to any constituencies, other than older White Puritans.
This will probably go on for the next 4 years, it’s all they got.
Are Americans going to be conned by this and get rid of the Federal government, like what GOP is planning? Will they?

    • 45 tnmtngirl
      June 6, 2025 at 8:00 am

I wish John Dean would blanket the airwaves with his PROVEN theory which is exactly what Jovie says: R’s attempt to prove that government doesn’t work, that all government workers are crooks and liars and lazy, etc. Then, hope that people buy it and vote D’s out and R’s in, then they run up the deficit/debt and the whole cycle starts all over again. John Dean has this documented in his books. I so wish he would speak out a LOT more.

The news media is off to the races again—-Today Show—-“Is the Obama administration secretly accessing your phone records? Stay tuned for this explosive, shocking story that broke overnight!!!!” And then Chuck Todd’s report where he said “Obama administration” about 25 times during his breathless report. Savannah Guthrie acting all properly shocked and outraged about this startling news, like they had NO IDEA that this was possible and has been going on. And they made it sound especially sinister because it was ordered under the “Obama Administration”—-and then said “Obama administration” a few more times for good measure. Unbelievable—-these series of attacks——that’s what troubles me.

      June 6, 2025 at 8:31 am

Who won the election? That’s what troubles me. Nothing we worked for is getting implemented, just the opposite actually.
I guess having a good decent guy as President is not what the Beltway wants.
I expect this to continue for next four years, with debt ceiling battles and sequestration a and even government shutdowns.
The DC culture is entrenched, hard to change what they want and when they want it.
      It’s sad, frankly!

        • 52 Jovie
          June 6, 2025 at 8:40 am

The problem is, the president doesn’t even believe in this stuff, but he is doing it to keep us safe.
That’s why he is so slow to explain it to us all, he has internal conflicts about it.
He allows the conversation to develop.
Slsi, unfortunately, I think Dan Pfieffer is doing a terrible job as communications director. Just my opinion! :(

        June 6, 2025 at 8:55 am

Jovie I disagree completely with your take on this. We are making progress - PBO is getting his appointments made, and the GOP and MSM have NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, so what do they do? Make up silly scandals week after week…by week 45, 90% of the American people will have tuned them out.

Meanwhile the economy continues to do well - and that’s really what matters to the American people.

        • 54 Jovie
          June 6, 2025 at 9:06 am

The economy is doing well, so there’s that!
I don’t think that having all if DC against this President should be taken lightly!
Even Bill Clinton had his allies, move on.org, those in congress etc.
This President has nobody in DC that is defending him, just the opposite actually.
It’s a big problem, because nothing is getting done, everything is being blocked!
Even msnbc has been trying to ruin consumer cinfidence with spin about economy.
Now, the FED out of nowhere is stopping easing. Why? It’s working!

        • 57 anniebella
          June 6, 2025 at 9:16 am

My main point was I have more trust in this President then I have in the media who is only searching for scandals, even if the scandals are base on half truth or flat out lies. The media who will ignore facts just to push their anti-Obama agenda.

Some houshold names on the list include Johnson & Johson, State Farm insurance, and AT&T. There are lots of major online businesses, including AOL (the parent company of the Huffington Post), eBay, Amazon.com, Yahoo, and Time Warner.” //

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/06/06/2111741/what-you-should-know-about-the-governments-massive-domestic-surveillance-program/

National Security Administration (NSA) is collecting information about the telephone records of millions of Americans through a warrant obtained in a secret court under authority granted in the Patriot Act. This is the first public confirmation that widespread surveillance of Americans, initiated under President George W. Bush in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks, has continued under the Obama administration. The program captures phone numbers and other information, but not the content of the conversations.

Warrantless surveillance began shortly after the September 2001 terrorist attacks. The Bush administration began a secret surveillance program in 2001, asking AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth to turn over communications records to the National Security Agency (NSA). The agency’s goal was “to create a database of every call ever made” within the nation’s borders, the USA Today reported in 2006.

Program fell under court supervision in 2007. ( The judge that signed off on this/ Reagan appt.)
In 2008, Congress expanded the Act to allow both foreign and domestic surveillance “as long as the intent is to gather foreign intelligence.” The measure also provided “retroactive immunity to the telecom companies that assisted the Bush administration.”

***** Congress extended the law through 2017.*****

    What the Verizon order says.

The order does not require the government to turn over the content of the calls, but it must share information about the numbers dialed and received, length of call, and customers’ name and address or financial information.

What the Patriot Act says. The order falls under Section 215 of the Patriot Act, which allows the government to make broad demands on telephone carriers for information about calls. Under the law, the government isn’t required to show probable cause, but rather, “there are reasonable grounds to believe” that the tangible things sought are “relevant to an authorized investigation . . . to obtain foreign intelligence information. . . or to protect against international terrorism or clandestine intelligence activities.” An expert told the Washington Post that the order “appears to be a routine renewal of a similar order first issued by the same court in 2006.” The order is apparently “reissued routinely every 90 days and that it is not related to any particular investigation by the FBI or any other agency.”

There’s more at the link….Congress always knew..they DID this after 9/11 and have reauthorized it. If they disagree, THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THE PATRIOT ACT!!! This is nothing new…been going on for some time, it would seem.
