She and Kurt Eichenwald have been doing a fantastic take down of GG using facts. It’s marvelous. GG’s response was all YOU’RE OBAMA CULTISTS!!! YOU’RE MSNBC SHILLS!! I HAVE MORE DOCUMENTS I WILL RELEASE!!!! Blah…blah…blah.

His threats are so idiotic. You have more documents to release…and so what? Your credibility and Snowden’s credibility are in the toilet. Welcome to the real world asshole.

Elijah Cummings is a real hero. He stood up to that ass Issa, revealed the truth and washed that whole faux IRS hysteria down the drain. Too bad it won’t get the coverage it deserves and Issa will still be invited on tv to tell lies. Bet Cummings doesn’t get any of the primo invitations. Truth is never as sexy as lies and innuendos.

The NYTimes barely mentioned the G-8 let alone the trip to germany. I can’t wait to see the address tomorrow morning.
In other shocking (snark) news, very little will be made of the handing over of security to the Afghan forces.

Every time the MSM/GOP/PL/TP bleat about the second term agenda being thwarted and ruining PBO’s legacy, recognize that for the LIE it is.
POTUS’ legacy is solid gold: 2 wars ended, 30 million more Americans with healthcare, financial crisis ended and so on and so forth…

just checked msnbc.com (did that always go straight to nbc news site which it just did?), and there is at least a mention of G8, but it’s just text headlines in the bottom box of what seems like secondary stories. up top with photos and videos is something about miss utah saying something, hillary in 2016 promotion, and so on. barely anything about putin and president obama agreeing to a number of things, along with everything else happening on this trip. “the news” is 100% a republican propaganda machine now.

What is *wrong* with our media? The Miss Utah story is a non-story (IMO).

I’ve seen references to Miss Utah in my twitter timeline, but not curious enough to find out what she said.

The biggest surprise to me is that beauty pageants still exist. Awhile ago I stumbled onto a site which listed Miss California pageant contestants, and nowadays it looks like they don’t represent cities but rather bizarre enclaves within cities. Don’t understand, but it’s really a 20th century relic that should be let go. Award the scholarship money to deserving youth, not based on their flute skills and how they look in a bathing suit.

Sadly, Layla, I’m not able to follow TOD as closely as I used to do in the good old days, it’s way too huge now! I seem to have a vague memory that the girls do have to ‘report’ on their travel experiences because their ‘mean’ ;) mother makes them do follow-up, or something like that. I like your idea though and wonder if they’ve ever thought of it. The more I think of it, the more fun I think it would be and I bet you it would sell. After all, if the Alaska Barbie could ‘write’ a book I’m sure the O-girls can, and by themselves tool. This is one of those times I wish I could plant the bug in their ears.

Just re-watched the Charlie Rose interview, and in the after-glow of thinking about how President Obama looked (always notice the eye twitch when he’s speaking to some of these journalists and reporters) and what he said, I noticed the reference to Frederick Douglass’ trip to Ireland in 1845. Wiki covers it, as well as more academic sites, of course, but here’s a link to an image of the “Frederick Douglass mural on the ‘Solidarity Wall,’ Belfast,” which I had never heard of, before:

… and I also located a quote about his trip on Wiki, from his “My Bondage and My Freedom” (a remarkable quote):

“Eleven days and a half gone and I have crossed three thousand miles of the perilous deep. Instead of a democratic government, I am under a monarchical government. Instead of the bright, blue sky of America, I am covered with the soft, grey fog of the Emerald Isle [Ireland]. I breathe, and lo! the chattel [slave] becomes a man … ”

      What poetic words!
I can only imagine how his spirit must have soared and what he really felt inside.Reminds me of the song, “Break Every Chain”.
Mr. Douglass had a way with words…..

        Good afternoon,

Yes, Mr. Douglass had a way with words…..

My favorite is his What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?

          June 18, 2013 at 9:09 pm

You are absolutely right, relellit! From an early age Frederick Douglass, a self-taught man, was in love with words. He was Indeed one of the great orators of the 19th Century. Like you, I like very much his speech on the “meaning of July 4th for the Slave.”

          June 18, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Wow! I just finished reading the whole thing and I am absolutely loss for words. This could apply to every bit of today, right now….from Stop and Frisk, the Dream Act, “religious” Repubs…..As it would happen, while watching this Charlie Rose interview of POB came on a channel I would never ever watch. At the end Charlie had a side note of him mentioning to PBO about an Irish author, McCann. It justo happened that PBO mentioned this author in his speech yesterday. Well, Charlie Rose then shows a past clipping of an interview with this author speaking of Mr. Frederick Douglass visiting Ireland as a slave and how he just found out about that recently and how his feelings in the beginning was annoyance until he realized the full impact that made on civil rights in Ireland as well as America. Wow! Just Wow!

      • June 18, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Used to be when President went abroad he received a wall of banners, all unfriendly (there – I fixed it for you).

At least in the Netherlands, protesters were rounded up and imprisoned because of “accosting a befriended government leader” – which later on gave way to hilarious jokes like: “Watch out – before you know we have another befriended government leader”.

    Hello Again:

So I’ve been in the hospital since April 15th and today is June 18th. TODAY is the FIRST day that I got to go OUTSIDE!!! It was part of my occupational therapy session. Now that I have decent clothes to put on and am pretty good on the walker, she took me outside in front of the hospital and I finally got to see the neighborhood I’m in. How about none of family members told me there was a Dunkin Donuts outside?! I mean, really!

Anyways, I had on a head rag and my ugly brace but I didn’t care. Got on my walker, walked down the block and back. Had to cut short because I had my physical therapy session coming up. There’s no sun out but it was a good temperature and a little windy. Felt really good.

My therapist also bought me two Haitian mangoes from a fruit vendor located in front. I’m going to eat one now. :)

LMAO! Chuck Todd was breathlessly tweeting about how this was a “gift to GOP for 2014″ and was going to cause long-term damage to the Obama administration, etc., etc Four tweets in succession

Today, crickets from him on this topic. I know he’s overseas supposedly covering PBO’s trip (Which he isn’t really doing besides making up false anti-Obama stories on the fly), but he has been tweeting about other domestic stuff since he went to Europe. So let’s see what he has to say about this newly released documents from Cummings.

THANK YOU HF2 for uncovering these tweets.

This is exactly what I have referred to before; the MSM cannot be allowed to openly cheerlead AGAINST our government without being held accountable.

My twitter timeline was completely clogged with self-referential, self-congratulatory tweets from journalists after the PRISM stories were published by @ggreenwald and WaPo (Barton Gellman).

These same people are now pretty quiet, but they haven’t admitted that maybe they were wrong to immediately believe what these people with obvious agendas had to say without first doing some investigation. And yes, I’m looking at @maddow and @lawrence too.

It’s time for every person in the media who has stood with this president to write a column, blog, do a radio program, tv show or whatever, in which they bash the media for again turning its back on the POTUS. Those with any kind of media leverage need to stand strong and speak out loudly in support of the POTUS. There are so many ready to stab him in the back and begrudge him even the tiniest bit of trust that they need to be called out for it. I am so tired of the distrust and attacks.

          June 18, 2013 at 5:25 pm

Actually they ARE helping, but unwittingly so. The more blatant the MSM becomes in their attempt to take PBO down, the less the public trusts their slanted reports – which actually benefits our President.

  27. 149 hopefruit2
    June 18, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Agree, HF2. It’s as if people get bored by the hard work of governing and just want elections, elections, elections all the time because it gives them a buzz. This is how the electorate becomes exhausted and eventually turns out.

that’s exactly it. adrenaline rushes are fun. the long tedious work required to implement change doesn’t appeal to the modern internet/tv “activist.” it’s all about them and satisfying the need for the rush, like a drug. that’s why we have medea benjamin and that rich woman who got in first lady obama’s face recently. it’s all about them and their fix…so true!

I’m guessing we wont have a say in 2016. They may as well just hand her the crown now and be done with it.

That’s what the MSM told us in 2007-2008 too. We the people still vote in the Democratic party, and there are good options to Hillary.

They are not doing Hillary any favors by pushing this inevitable nonsense again, especially this far away from 2016. If they are under the impression that everyone is going to vote for her in a primary, they are mistaken.

The MSM for the most part are so provincial and insular. They know nothing about international issues, so keep on driving the same old domestic drivel. Ah for the days of Murrow, Cronkite…..those people were educated and could explain the international issues to the public. These pitiful guys know nothing and don’t seem to want to learn. Their interest stops, actually at the D.C. beltway. They are really killing network news and cable news, if there is such a thing.
They don’t even know enough to ask intelligent questions while the president is in Europe. The other news people make ours look like total ignoramuses!

Yes, witness the Super Bowl 2005 question yesterday.

Our MSM gets caught up in the vortex of the DC journalist echo-chamber and believe that they are the center of the universe.

I know you’re not on twitter, but Chris Hayes is one of the worse, and unfortunately he has his own show to air his thoughts. Really hope MSNBC pulls the plug on his show because it represents DC navel-gazing at its apex (despite the fact Hayes is in NYC).

For over 4 years, Chuck Todd’s pontifications, prognostication, and punditry about President Obama has been absolutely wrong. MSNBC should be a shamed of themselves to continue to put him there as some political guru.

They are stunning– all grown up, and i LOVE their clothes — they have just as much fun with fashion as their mother. It’s so wonderful to have a hip, young family in the White House.

Isn’t it amazing that the NYTimes and the WP have no front page stories of the Obama trip? (other than some questionable comment on the WP about the First Lady’s wardrobe choices) I just tried to watch a der Spiegel video in German of their arrival in Berlin, and it just seems that I should be able to watch a video in English of the arrival of the American president and his family, but our news media is inexplicably absent, not bothering with coverage. That is shameful.

The people over there in Ireland didn’t seem to have a problem with FLOTUS wardrobe. And most of the people making the comments about FLOTUS wardrobe are the same people who criticize anything FLOTUS do. So to hell with the comments. FLOTUS is a grown woman, she wears what she likes.

I had a chance to watch the video of PBO’s interview on Charlie Rose. What an excellent interview. Charlie is the last of a dying breed. He seems to be the only person who knows how to do an interview. I love the end where he showed part of the President’s speech in Ireland. PBO is a true statesman. Sadly i haven’t seen much if anything of the President’s trip on the “liberal” blogs. But, TPM does have a quote from Bill Ayers! We are all doomed, with this media.

Granholm is being pretty darn presumptuous here. How the hell does she know who PBO’s “successor” is going to be? Does she have some crystal ball that we aren’t privy to?

Alan Grayson, was on Martin Bashir bemoning his lose of privacy over this NSA/Snowjob hubbla.

Martin Bashir asked that firebagger, Alan Grayson, what he thought about this NSA/Snowjob thing? , Alan Grayson replied what do you think Martin? Martin Bashir told Grayson he asks the question and the public wants to hear from him since he is a Congressman

I was so happy to see Martin Bashir & Karren Finney push back on Alan Grayson. Really MSNBC should give Martin Bashir 2 slots since he is not afraid to speak the truth.

You know what I’d like to see? Just once? A Democratic congress-critter with the same ‘entertaining’ fire of an Alan Grayson, screaming “OUTRAGE” right back and peppering the discourse with truth over lies.

Is there a reason Democrats can’t do that?

I’d at least like to see them try to get some attention, instead of this mealy-mouthed b.s. that cedes the narrative to RWNJ’s and the likes of screamers like Alan Grayson who, for all his righteous passion, ain’t about to let any facts get in the way of his bias.

I agree with you. But apparently too many Dem congressmen/women are to eager to get their faces on cable TV, and will say just about anything to have the camera spotlight.

              June 18, 2013 at 6:07 pm

I’m really sick and tired of this ‘independent’ b.s. that really means, “I’m here to diss PBO.” I’m not saying we have to be lockstep like the mindless Republicans; but come on. There was incidents that arise that require unity in order to hold things together. Dem’s continue to act as if it’s still LBJ with a monstrous Democratic majority, when you could afford to sound ‘independent’. We don’t have that luxury now, and a certain amount of discipline instills a sense of stability and strength in the electorate. I’m sick to death of Dem’s falling all over themselves to feign outrage without facts or a view of the long game.

How many jumped on the ACORN bandwagon, without bothering to find out if any of the facts were true? Holy shit, Barbara Boxer was one of them! We have a razor-thin chance to stop this country from slipping into the abyss and they still don’t get it.
