Thank you for posting the interview. Just finished it. all I can say WOW!! Love our President. Sent on to FB for some of my relatives, maybe they will be smart enough to watch a smart man. Sometimes, I was a little disappointed in how Charlie kept interrupting him. Talking points in the piece.

Isn’t it true the Dems never wanted to change Senate rules, because if they did they would have when the late NJ Senator was alive, but Harry Reid trusted that snake Mitch McConnell.

I think there’s also the issue of these changes coming back to haunt Democrats in the year 2060, when Republicans finally win back the majority in the Senate!

Good Morning Chipsticks and Early Risers!

The Blog Tyrants have been working overtime these past few days! :-) All the information and especially the coverage of the First Family’s trip is very much appreciated. We get to experience so much more than we would have if depending on coverage by the newstainers. THANK YOU MADAME CHIPSTICKS AND BT ASSOCIATES!

Surprisingly, I was able to stay awake to watch Charlie Rose’s interview with the President. I agree with everyone that it was a good interview. The questions were thoughtful and I did not feel that Mr. Rose was very respectful during the interview. I especially liked that the President was able to answer the questions thoroughly with little to no interruption.

Looking forward to TOD coverage of the next leg of the Obama’s trip.

Tell me why should we the public trust CNN? I want a poll done on the media.

    • June 18, 2013 at 8:26 am

Good morning all. Also, the first thing I saw when I logged in was the cNN poll saying that, nearly half believe the White House had something to do with the IRS targeting. I am happy to see Plouffe questioning this skewed poll being repeated by everyone in the media. It is shameless.

Also, a ‘news’ network that doesn’t cover the G8? And we’re supposed to believe their polls when they won’t cover the most basic of Presidential news stories?

The father of Edward Snowden, the ex-CIA worker who leaked top secret information on US surveillance programmes, has issued a public plea urging his son to not commit “treason”.

“I hope, I pray and ask that you will not release any secrets that could constitute treason,” Lon Snowden said in an interview with Fox News.

He also asked his son, currently in hiding in Hong Kong, to “face justice”.

What will gigi & guardian do, now that his own dad is calling out his treason?

Good morning, Chips and TODville. Thanks so much for the Charlie Rose video!

This is huge. If the FISA court has been breached, all bets are off about what happens next:

FBI Looks for Leaks at Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court
by Eli Lake Jun 18, 2013 4:45 AM EDT
Investigators still do not know if the FISA system has been compromised, or if Edward Snowden was the source of the Verizon warrant published by the ‘Guardian.’ Eli Lake reports.

The FBI is investigating whether the highly protected and segregated computer systems that store the secret court warrants authorizing electronic surveillance inside the United States have been breached, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials. Thirteen days after the Guardian published a top-secret court order from the top-secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court disclosing the National Security Agency’s collection of all phone records from Verizon’s business customers over a three-month period, the U.S. intelligence community has yet to determine how the warrant, one of the most highly classified documents inside the U.S. government, was leaked.

Those who receive the warrant—the first of its kind to be publicly disclosed—are not allowed “to disclose to any other person” except to carry out its terms or receive legal advice about it, and any person seeing it for those reasons is also legally bound not to disclose the order. The officials say phone companies like Verizon are not allowed to store a digital copy of the warrant, and that the documents are not accessible on most NSA internal classified computer networks or on the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System, the top-secret internet used by the U.S. intelligence community.

HUGE. Didn’t they publish the entire thing on the internet? Someone is in deep doo doo.

      • June 18, 2013 at 8:35 am

Honestly, it doesn’t get any worse than this when you’re talking about revealing state secrets. It’s appalling and if Glennzilla thinks he’s a hero in all this, he’s in for a rude awakening.

Through the last week, reading great posts by Bob Cesca, Charles Johnson and others who were explaining how this all worked I kept thinking, “I don’t need to know this in order to ‘prove’ something to LWNJ’s with an agenda. If I know, there are literally thousands of bad guys out there who are learning how to circumvent the system and do us harm.”

The notion that we need to know everything is absurd and dangerous. Can the info be misused? You bet. And that would be illegal for a President to use classified information to hurt an opponent. (I only wish Bush & Cheney had been held accoutable for the Valerie Plame leak). But we are not paranoid if we understand that great harm can befall many innocent people unless a President is diligent about keeping us as safe as possible.

      Thx for posting.

Morning, COS. It’s really an unbelievable act of arrogance and puts the U.S. in a very bad position.

And the fact that some of the left or so called progressives are defending this guy is even more appalling Meta. I was simply shocked at Randi’s take on this, yesterday.

    • June 18, 2013 at 8:57 am

Why don’t they store these documents encrypted ? Of course anyone who has to *do* anything with the information has to (be able) to decrypt it – but there is no reason to give encryption keys to systems administrators ….

The comments that PBO made in the interview about Russia as it related to Syria, explains even more the body language of the two leaders in that interview. PBO was locked and loaded.

While Charlie was not surprised that PBO had read the works of the Irish writer that he cited, he seemed surprised, but also impressed that the president referenced the writer in his speech in Belfast. Where has he been; PBO makes literary and historical allusions all of the time.

This morning it has been a real struggle to access any live info re the Os. Each link shared here that I’ve tried has just grinned back at me without moving (or moved without talking, despite volume being at maximum) with the result that I have found out nothing, nothing, nothing about where the Os are and what they’ve been doing. I’m finally going to take that as a sign I should go do something else. ;) ;) On the plus side, I have enjoyed the PBO interview that CC graciously updated – Thank you, my Lady Mayor! And watching the Dreamers vid was also quite moving.

I am watching the interview in sections so I haven’t seen it in its entirety. I am wanting to absorb all of the information. First impression however is that the President is affording us a precious view into his thinking on these subjects which is usual for him and just one of the things that makes him so superlative in an open democracy. He seems to also, as usual, have no intention of using the struggles of others or the work of others as a political manipulation tool God bless him a thousand times for this. Finally it impresses me that when the President is interviewed he must accept very tough questioning ( not a problem, he embraces the importance of the press) but it stands out to me that no one else seems to be given that level of scrutiny by the press. Now the scrutiny, because it is reserved for him and his administration, stands out and because of that it seems disrespectful on some level. I wince even when Charlie Rose does it and I accept that Rose is a better journalist than most. However, truth has a way of protecting the people that believe in it and exposing the people that don’t. The President’s respect for others, reporters, leaders, everyday people and his integrity will win him a place in history and his model of how to approach problems will be studied, I believe, and will effect us all even after his term of service is complete. I was just thinking that I will take my cues from him when he is out of office as much as I will while he is in office. No other endorsement will mean more to me.

Great perception, catrst. Our president is one of a kind and is judgment is impeccable. He is also fearless, not to mention tireless.
