ut, I wanted to ask you about this atrocity unleashed by perry and his pigs. Where are PP, NOW, Emily’s List on this ? Or they fight with only rearguard actions ? Shouldn’t they be leading this movement?

NaralTX, PPact of TX, Lillith Fund, etc. are all on the ground and doing their best to spread the word. The only problem is that the GOP controls both chambers and with this special session they don’t even need a true definition of a quorum to pass these destructive bills. But there will be another session held on Sunday (we’re trying to delay the passage from bills into law and Democrats are trying on their end to stall them) and we’re spreading the word so there can be a rally held.

Reminder posted at the end of the last thread.

Next month, Yahoo! will reassign inactive user ids, which is either a scam (I have an inactive Yahoo! email, but will not pay them extortion money to get it back) or a serious privacy compromise.

Rachel Hartman is either not objective enough to be a reporter, or she’s too stupid to be one.

Here’s hoping that Yahoo! is circling the drain and takes their incompetent “reporting” staff with them.

The US justice department has filed criminal charges against a fugitive ex-intelligence analyst who leaked details of a secret surveillance operation.

The charges against ex-National Security Agency (NSA) analyst Edward Snowden include espionage and theft of government property.

The criminal complaint has been lodged with a federal court in an eastern district of Virginia and a provisional arrest warrant had been issued, court documents show.

Mr Snowden, 30, was charged with “Theft of Government Property”, “Unauthorized communication of National Defense Information Information” and “Willful Communication of Classified Communications Intelligence”.

The BBC’s Katy Watson in Washington says the move shows how seriously the administration is taking the issue.

And on the financial services front:

For those who wax nostalgic at WJC’s term, he allowed the repeal of Glass-Steagall, a safeguard from the Great Depression that kept bank operations separate from the casinos also known as “investment” banks.

He shares a lot of the responsibility for allowing the catalyst that become the 2008 financial meltdown.

    HP:

On Friday, Facebook admitted that a bug made the private contact information — either email addresses or phone numbers — of 6 million users accidentally accessible to Facebookers who downloaded their account histories onto their own computers. Compared to Facebook’s over 1 billion total members, 6 million isn’t much. But any security flaw has the potential to frighten people away from a website.

A bug allowed “some of a person’s contact information (email or phone number) to be accessed by people who either had some contact information about that person or some connection to them,” Facebook wrote in a note on its security page. Using the network’s “Download Your Information” tool, some Facebook members were inadvertently sent the phone numbers or email address of Facebook friends that were otherwise private. Facebook assured users that the bug was fixed within a day, and that there is no evidence that the information was used maliciously.

The bug was found not by Facebook’s team, but by someone going through Facebook’s “white hat” hacker program, which offers a bounty for anyone who can find bugs on the site, paying a minimum reward of $500 per bug. The bounty is awarded “based on [the bug's] severity and creativity,” according to Facebook’s White Hat page. In April, HuffPost profiled one of Facebook’s most prolific bug finders, Nir Goldshlager.

The Colorado fires are bad; it’s been really dry in the Colorado/New Mexico area for a couple of years now.

But check out Indonesia’s effect on Singapore (at the tip of the peninsula in the center of the map).

I thought it rained there a lot. Are they suffering a drought as well?

    http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/06/21/2194141/obamacare-big-insurers-overcharging/

This summer, over 8.5 million Americans will get back $500 million in rebates from insurance companies that charged them too much thanks to an Obamacare consumer protection that limits how much insurers can profit off of premiums, according to new government data. But the size of Americans’ rebate checks varies wildly by geographic region, highlighting how certain insurance companies can arbitrarily gouge their prices — a practice that likely won’t last under Obamacare.

The Affordable Care Act’s so-called “80/20 rule” forces insurers selling individual and small group plans to spend at least 80 percent of the premiums they charge consumers on actual medical care, rather than administrative overhead or profit (the threshold for large group market plans is even higher at 85 percent). That’s led to massive rebate checks from insurers who overcharged their customers.

A new political party is being launched in South Africa to challenge President Zuma’s African National Congress (ANC).

Agang – which means Build in the Sepedi language – promises to create more jobs and hold leaders to account.

Its leader, Mamphela Ramphele, is a former World Bank managing director and was the partner of murdered anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko.

Ahead of Saturday’s launch, retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu welcomed Ms Ramphele’s entry into politics.

“Few thinking South Africans would not welcome the entry into South African politics of someone of the calibre, background, intellect and resourcefulness of Mamphela Ramphele,” he said in a statement.

The BBC’s Karen Allen in Johannesburg says the ANC is regularly accused of poor governance and failing to deliver basic services such as housing, water and jobs.

Agang’s stated aim, she says, is to galvanise South Africans to build on the democratic foundations left by former President Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid leaders – a legacy which some believe is being squandered by the ANC.

However, loyalty to the ANC among South African voters runs deep, our correspondent adds.

    FORWARD!

    We might actually do this!

You know all those emails we’ve sent you about our fundraising deadlines? Well, yesterday both parties released their May numbers — and we crushed Boehner and the Republicans!!! In fact, we DOUBLED the GOP in grassroots donations.

Here’s why that matters: all those naysayers who think we can’t win a Democratic House for President Obama are waiting to see if our grassroots strength can stack up against Boehner’s big-money backers. Right now, that’s exactly what’s happening!

Now that the media is paying attention, our biggest test yet is in 9 days when the midyear fundraising deadline hits. If we can out raise the Republicans for the first six months of 2013, it’ll send shock waves throughout Washington, DC (and send Boehner into an all-out panic). Will you be a part of this?

As you rest, Mr. Bobfr, that is what I would call “Poetic Justice”
In other words, the sweetest tweet for two(or maybe three, four) partners in crime who are about to do some time.
Where are the ones who were calling Snowjob a hero, now? Had the audacity to compare this snowball to Dr. MLK and Mrs. Rosa Parks.
If they are the sames ones who were applauding OWS, then what a waste of space and time.
Seriously, what really was the outcome of OWS.( just thinking to myself….I really care not to know, please spare me the that dialogue)
Oh, now I remember another diversion that did not work. They just will not stop, so sad.

Good Morning Ms Chips! Good Morning, all!

CC, thanks for uploading the ‘Obama in Africa’ videos on the ‘Africa 2013′ thread. While waiting for `Rise & Shine` this morning I actually took the time to watch all three and am glad I did. I bet I will have a much more ‘informed’ response to the upcoming Africa trip.

You are a dote – a special and loved dote! Thanks for always sharing the ‘goodies’ you find with us.
