Good Morning. Congrats CEB. It’s a beautiful morning here. I’m so far behind. I forgot my hair appointment. It has been a busy few weeks. 3ChicsPolitico helped by posting this song. I needed a cry.

LONDON — Serena Williams sailed past Wimbledon’s wave of upsets and now faces an opponent more than a decade older than her.

The five-time champion beat Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday, avoiding the sort of early exit that has sent many top players tumbling from the tournament. Next up for the 31-year-old Williams is Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm, who at 42 became the oldest woman to reach the third round at Wimbledon in the Open era.

Texas’ Perry tries mansplaining abortion to Wendy Davis

    By Steve Benen

    ————————————————————–

The Washington Post’s James Downie summarized the problem well this morning, noting, “I don’t care what your stance on abortion is. Using an opponent’s teen pregnancy in any debate is unbelievably vile.”

I’ll confess that when I saw some emails about Perry’s comments, I thought someone must have made a mistake. The Texas governor is out there, but is he really that far gone?

Alas, the quotes are real. This really is Perry’s character on full display.

How’s that outreach initiative going, Reince?

      Thy hypocricy cup runneth over:

Just yesterday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) called for a second special session of the Texas Legislature, specifically in the hopes of passing sweeping and legally dubious new restrictions on abortion rights. The Republican governor said such a move is necessary because “Texans value life.” (Perry’s administration executed a 52-year-old woman a few hours later.)

Perry (and people who think like him) don’t respect women’s right to choose. So what if Ms. Davis chose to have a child and is the child of a single parent? What does that have to do with denying other women’s right to choose? NOTHING. This is sickening. I hope Ms. Davis runs for Texas governor next year and gives Perry a run for his money.

Because he’s not saying anything negative here about Trayvon Martin’s friend, who’s on the stand, I will not comment back to him on the last part of it – which is basically his daily persona.

I’m trying not to watch too much of this trial because I cannot bear to see Trayvon Martin’s dad’s heartbreak, not to mention his mom’s.

But I’ve caught a bit of this cross-examination. I won’t tell you the phrase I’m using in my head about that defense attorney, every time he speaks to this witness.

          • 47 57andfemale
            June 27, 2013 at 4:16 pm

Did you hear that the monster of a defense attorney wanted Trayvon’s family removed from the court so they wouldn’t influence the jury? The judge told him to take a hike – facing the victim’s family is facing the victim.

            • 48 jacquelineoboomer
              June 27, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Only heard a snippet of that, after the fact – what the judge said – but it is beyond contemptible.

    • June 27, 2013 at 1:33 pm

      HAHAHAH!

I’m not even sure what his damn point point is here? Is he being patronizing to her (you were terrible on the witness stand, but I was much worse in my mock trial)? Is he just looking for attention – trying to making it all about him?

I don’t get it. He certainly is not complimenting her that’s for sure.

      • June 27, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Perhaps, he’s speaking to the people who say she does not sound credible and seems unsure of herself. He might actually be defending her. Stranger things have happened. :)

          June 27, 2013 at 1:43 pm

I think that may be true, because he’s putting himself in her place (although the comparison in importance is very, very weak). Well, I’m at least trying to hold that thought, which would be decent on his part.

      • 52 jacquelineoboomer
        June 27, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Truthfully, since all roads lead to him in his mind, I think he senses her discomfort and is making it all about his discomfort at the “mock trial.” His comparison of one with the other is as foolish as he is, but – in his head – I think he’s trying to show empathy for her on the witness stand. And, of course I realize that may be giving him way too much benefit of the doubt.

He does not realize he needs to just quit tweeting, talking, hosting a show, etc. He needs to go do research on the Internet about anything, and then try to write it up and sell it. From his basement.

          June 27, 2013 at 7:34 pm

I agree JoB – there are thousands around on the intertubes (including media trial pundits) accusing the lass of all sorts of things – and the prosecution of “bearing false witness” – Hayes is trying to show empathy – thinks his explanations solve all the world’s problems. Pundits have to make everything about themselves – otherwise their lives have no meaning – sigh

Texas is introducing a new map and you can bet they will gerrymander as many Democrats out of their districts as they can. Had the Attorney General not stopped their prior attempt there would be no Wendy…they had eliminated her district.

Key:”left it in there too long” What on earth are we becoming!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police in Memphis, Tenn., say a puppy was killed when a man put it in a dishwasher and ran the machine.

Police charged 27-year-old Marcus Curry with aggravated abuse to animals. He is being held on $40,000 bond.

Police were called Wednesday by an apartment maintenance man who found a dead mixed-breed puppy in a trash bin.

A police affidavit states Curry told officers he didn’t put the dog into the dishwasher, but did say he put it in a bag and threw it into a trash bin.

A witness, however, told investigators that Curry told him he put the dog in the dishwasher and “left it in there too long.” Another witness saw the animal in the dishwasher and said when Curry took it out, the puppy was not moving.

No attorney was listed for Curry.

Relating to Trayvon Martin’s friend, who’s on the stand, and her recollection of a “name” Trayvon called Zimmerman, while speaking to her on the phone that night:

    • June 27, 2013 at 2:05 pm

According to the young lady, Trayvon also referred to him by the “n” word. Wonder why he isn’t playing that up?

      • 89 jacquelineoboomer
        June 27, 2013 at 2:12 pm

Just heard the prosecutor bring it up, by asking her if both names are just the vernacular of her age group or community (not a direct quote), which is a good way to handle it. It was a teenager talking to a teenager.

It wouldn’t matter one iota if Trayvon Martin stood screeching slang on the corner of the street at the armed stranger who was stalking him in his father’s neighborhood. It would never amount to a reason to shoot a kid. This trial is driving me crazy, because it’s like they’re looking for societal reasons why Trayvon deserved to die that night at the hands of this racist vigilante. There was no reason. He should be alive and well, listening to music, hanging out with his friends, figuring out who he will be in life. There’s absolutely no reason for what happened that night.

      • 98 jacquelineoboomer
        June 27, 2013 at 2:37 pm

Yes, of course. But in the trial the defense must find anything they can to point to, no matter what it is. I’m hoping it all backfires.

Trayvon could have been my son or grandson or great grandson, on their way back from the local convenience store. That’s the way we should all look at it, from my perspective.

Beutiful, haunting photo. Many years ago we visited Elimina Castle in Ghana, same cruel history. The tour took us to the dungeons where Africans were packed in these teeny cells. When the tide came in, the water would come into those cells via these tiny holes in the wall (I think the slavers thought those were windows). Many drowned. I could still sense fear and the smell of urine after all those years. It was horrifying. I remember not being able to breath, I ran out looking for air. The only “breathable air” I could find was outside those castle walls. The pathological inhumanity of mankind is so destructive. I would find Goree Island traumatizing.

I think PBO, FLOTUS, family and group visited Elmina Castle when they were in Ghana.

A brilliant soul, stands in “the door of no return” and yet he will go in the history books for eternity as; ‘an instrument’ of goodness of heart, peaceful solutions, an ocean of compassion, a pause in his mind to be able to listen to the few as well as the masses. a forward focused world leader, and a great man who looks out on the waters and see a new birth to a justice that can and will be felt for generations to come. An Ocean that in the past swept up so many hopes and dreams, but he can and will do his best to open up “Doors of Dreams and Opportunities” in humble remembrance of precious lives that were stolen from us and their ambitions smothered and drowned in the tempest of a sea turned into a marker in our history as a world and as a nation of dreams and hopes washed away forever. (As I see him in this powerful photo.)HZ

Knowing our great President of the United States as we do: I would be willing to say that his mind is so full as he stands in that door on this visit: full of so many powerful emotions that will carry his spirits to the height of compassionate determination to make sure he always stand in the doors that will lift the hearts and minds of all mankind to a higher level of justice. And try his best to open every ‘door of future opportunities’ with “A Returning Hope” that will pave a fair and just path for a journey to freedom and justice for all.

So there will be “Opportunity Doors” that will give hope and determination to steady the’ Reins of Justice.’ that they both will ring out so all can hear their sounds and feel in their lives their ‘Sweet Power’. Bless you, Mr. President as you stand there with your private thoughts today.

Mr. President, as you step through doors in his life as a son, a grandson, a husband, a father, and the leader of the free world, may your actions give life to the breath of generations to come a full measure of ‘Sweet Justice for Eternity’. May Almighty bless you throughout this trip, Mr. President.HZ
