She was so right on. These religious nuts are worse than the Taliban, “almost” However, in Afghanistan, when the Taliban ruled women had more freedom until the nut cases took over after we went there and invaded. I think I have that right. :) If I don’t someone correct me.

I’d bet the other way, LWR. I’d bet the ‘little lady’ is at home ‘enjoying a moment or two of reprieve that he is out of the house, though she would never admit it. She will stand proudly, yet submissively, beside him after church service, 3 or 4 children clutching at her modest dress, or sulking nearby if they are older – the perfect (in the minds of their church) Christian family. Meanwhile there is such hatred (self and otherwise) and resentment seething in their hearts. I don’t know a true Christian who needs to WEAR a t-shirt announcing the info.

Hmmm, I would guess this person has some major identity issues and takes its anger out on those that are representative of those issues, i.e.: always being referred to as “ma’am” would probably drive a “man” insane, therefore this is their way of asserting said “manhood”.

  10. July 7, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Thanks Carol Mae, Hoperfruit, and Roberta. I roused myself from my melatonin induced coma just as the new post flashed by. Has anyone here taken this stuff? I bought some because my sleep schedule is so out of whack and I need to get back on track for school next week. I tool one 5mg pill last night at 11:00 I did go to sleep, and I woke to the alarm, but I have been so sleepy that I feel sick all day. It’s three in the afternoon here and I’m still dozy. I don’t think I’ll be taking any more!

    • July 7, 2013 at 3:40 pm

Melatonin is good for the (adult) brain and for sleep. Some folks only take half a pill or 1mg and that’s all they need.

    • 46 vcprezofan2
      July 7, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Maryl, this reminds me somewhat of the time I was prescribed sleeping pills to help overcome nights of sleeplessness. They never worked the three nights they were supposed (Wed to Fri), then comes Saturday and I was so sleepy after I got up I was back in bed by midday, totally zonked! That was it for me. Sure hope you find a way to get the body back in sync without the need for anything. ;) Maybe a little less TOD while you realign your body rhythms??

Well, here’s hoping that guy soon gets a female boss in whatever job he has and she tears him to shreds with her high standards and then cans him. If he should one day miraculously find a woman who can stand him for five minutes, I hope she kicks him in a tender place and when he goes to the ER, he’s treated by a stern female doctor. If he has a wife somewhere I hope she sees this photo and is gone when he gets back taking whatever daughters they may have. Then I hope he flees to the nearest church for comfort and runs into a female pastor. With any luck, he will then bang his own head against the wall and not know what hit him.

This is what happens when religion overruns someone’s life, rather than just add to it. they become blinded by it, consumed by it, and think that their’s is the only “right” religion…. ( which is partially why I am NOT a religious person myself) I think it’s a sickness at this level

    • 92 57andfemale
      July 7, 2013 at 4:33 pm

Well, congress won’t give them the money. And apparently no one had a back-up plan, except asking the sports leagues who folded like a cheap suit to McConnell.

Internet is NOT enough. the people who most need the information are not on the Internet. And please, don’t tell me the news is coming. We’ve allowed ACA to be defined by Republicans for 4 years. You can’t expect to get the word out a month before and expect people to line up and make this thing work. You have to inform the people of the truth, create a desire and a need in their consciousness, and then tell them how to get the health care that is available to them. The exchanges open to sign-up in October. It’s already mid-July. This should have been a concentrated effort for at least the last six months, if not the last year. It should have been an ongoing education effort from Day One.

I remember – it was the Thursday before the 2010 election, and my husband got his Medicare information booklet. It talked about all the benefits to Medicare under ACA. Hey, I’m informed and engaged and I didn’t know all of this stuff. A few days before the election, when seniors had been scared out of their minds. Why weren’t there letters, information brochures, etc. long before many had already voted and horrible lies had been planted in the consciousness of so many Americans?

I don’ know what the funding answer is. I do know the most meaningful politician in the last 50 years won two elections despite incredible opposition and has succeeded against the most traitorous obstructionist Congress in American history. That team should have been able to figure out how to get the truth out about ACA, take control of the narrative, and by this point have everyone who needs insurance salivating at the opportunity to get health care.

    • July 7, 2013 at 4:34 pm

A bloody waste of time and money. They should just give PBO the $1M to drop out of the race – oops….

      • July 7, 2013 at 4:44 pm

I read somewhere that massive advertising for ObamaCare is supposed to start in August.

        • July 7, 2013 at 5:24 pm

That makes sense, because people are not really paying attention during the summer months. That way, they will be in full swing in fall, right before the exchanges are implemented in 2014, and the midterms later that term. Very good timing. Let the Teabaggers throw money down the drain. This is not 2010 – and what worked then will NOT work now.

    Greetings TOD family

Earlier this week a pretty cool thing happened. I was interviewed by a USA Today reporter and our OFA chapter actually was included in her story

Obama’s advocacy group lining up behind clean energy
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/07/04/organizing-for-action-president-obama-renewable-energy-ethics-climate-change/2483895/

this is a miracle that will never happen again, but it was fun to have the interview go well and the quote be accurate. OFA set it all up so I just had to try and not embarrass myself on the phone.

The info about our group in near the bottom of the article.

    July 7, 2013 at 4:24 pm

    More OFA info

Last week we also held a phone bank into Bakersfield in support of immigration reform. It turns out Dolores Huerta and Sister Simone led the rally. You can see a picture at

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152041037824768&set=a.10150269855939768.394547.159267174767&type=1&theater

It gets better, one of our volunteers actually called Dolores as part of her call list. She was very nice, laughed when asked to come and then told her she was a rally organizer. You just never know who you will get when you go to a phone bank.

If you were an OFA volunteer in 2012, please consider reconnecting with a local OFA. If you can’t fine one send me an email whatisiworking@gmail.com

I can’t understand how anyone honorable can justify being a Republican. They are homophobic, Islamophobic, zenophobic, anti-government, anti-immigrant, anti-science, anti-women, and anti-education. They don’t create jobs, they cut unemployment, add to the deficit and shred the safety-net. They believe corporations are people, college students are snobs, union workers are socialists and democracy only counts when it’s determined by them.

They are hateful and hypocritical. What kind of ideology is that?

I want every man who get s viagra prescription to sign and have to publish a statement that he can support any child his indiscriminate seed creates. I want it published in full-page ads. I want it explained to him that he will face criminal charges of perjury and other charges if he does not comply. I want all of his financials audited to make sure he can support the population boom. Then I want him tested for STD’s and have those results published.

I want him to undergo psychiatric counseling and told all kinds of lies about the dangers of sex and that he’s only allowed to use viagra with his lovely, thin, middle-aged wife. Again, under criminal penalty if he strays from the Morality of the Republican Party

And then I want something shoved up some private part of his, just to prove he’s healthy.

Oh, and I want the availability of the drug to only be available in one clinic per state, that’s open Tues – Thurs 1:00 – 4:00. And he must get his presciption in person, so he has to take off from work and go stand in line for three days.

Did you see this? Looks like another damn pit bull attack—–read about them almost daily. Neighbor had to shoot one in Indiana a couple of days ago to stop a 12 yr. old from being mauled to death by a pit that lived in his home (mother’s boyfriend’s dog). I know Des Moines has had so many pit bull attacks that they require owners to carry $100,000 liability insurance and to keep dogs in high cage with double padlocked gates. Where is Warrington, by the way? Looks like the owner was bit on the arm by her dog also—-bloody.

I canvassed in Davenport last Fall and OMG have never seen so many huge dogs behind fences. What a terrible life for them; way too big to be fenced in like that but obviously needing to be as they are trained to be attack dogs.

      • 156 Sandy1110
        July 7, 2013 at 6:49 pm

These owners probably have NO clue what it takes to control their animals. They may, as my sister suggested, think they’re cute as puppies and get them without understanding what to do when they become adult. Or they may just like the idea of owning a big dog without understanding their responsibility.

While on a walk, my small dog was roughhoused out of his leash by a bigger dog who got free of his owner.

If someone isn’t prepared to keep their animal restrained in public, they need to keep them away from other people or animals.

        • 165 forus50
          July 7, 2013 at 6:06 pm

What happened in Egypt last year was similar to the US 2010 midterm elections. There was a lot of cynicism and turnout was not good and the Muslim Brotherhood had the only existing coalition. Other parties didn’t have enough time to organize and so by default the MB candidate won. There is no perfect leader of course but at least now they know they don’t want the Muslim Brotherhood which is a HUGE, huge decision. I give them a lot of credit for not just sitting and putting up with it. It was by and large a peaceful protest. Granted the military was the decider but if there hadn’t been the MASSIVE protests the military wouldn’t have intervened.

      • 166 forus50
        July 7, 2013 at 6:01 pm

The issue is that by the conventional definition of a military coup a US president would traditionally be opposed to it; in that Morsi was elected through open and fair elections last year. In addition a military coup would require the US to stop aid under the terms of the present agreement. So it’s understandable that the Eygyptians are nervous as to where POTUS is on the matter.

Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious. We can only take so much bad news.

Another infamous e-mail for you chili lovers. I’m still crying.

    Texas Chili Cook-off

If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there’s no hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as relayed to paramedics at a chili cook-off in Texas.

Note: Please take time to read this slowly.
If you pay attention to the first two judges,
the reaction of the third judge is even better.

For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the Santa Fe Plaza . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chile taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield , IL .

Frank: “Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge’s table, asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges ( Native Texans ) that the chili wouldn’t be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge #3.”

Here are the scorecard notes from the event:
    CHILI # 1 – MIKE’S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI
Judge # 1 — A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
Judge # 2 — Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge # 3 (Frank) — Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that’s the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

    CHILI # 2 – EL RANCHO’S AFTERBURNER CHILI
Judge # 1 — Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge # 2 — Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
Judge # 3 — Keep this out of the reach of children. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.

CHILI # 3 – ALFREDO’S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI
Judge # 1 — Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
Judge # 2 — A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 — Call the EPA. I’ve located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I’m getting sh*t-faced from all of the beer.

    CHILI # 4=2 0- BUBBA’S BLACK MAGIC
Judge # 1 — Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge # 2 — Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.
Judge # 3 — I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman is starting to look HOT … Just like this nuclear waste I’m eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?

    CHILI # 5 – LISA’S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
Judge # 1 — Meaty, strong chili.. Jalapeno peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 — Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 — My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I’m burning my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.

    CHILI # 6 – VARGA’S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY
Judge # 1 — Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 — The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic. Superb.
Judge # 3 — My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I’m worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can’t feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone..

    CHILI # 7 – SUSAN’S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
Judge # 1 — A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
Judge # 2 — Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 — You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn’t feel a thing. I’ve lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they’ll know what killed me. I’ve decided to stop breathing.. It’s too painful. Screw it; I’m not getting any oxygen anyway.. If I need air, I’ll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

    CHILI # 8 – BIG TOM’S TOENAIL CURLING CHILI
Judge # 1 — The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge # 2 — This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself.. Not sure if he’s going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he’d have reacted to really hot chili?
    Judge # 3 — No report.

I had checked out of Wimbledon until today….I was rooting for Murray. ND looked fresher and looked like AM was not going to beat him. Heck experts were predicting a 3 set win for ND. Hmm how judging AM by his looks today…..he totally worked harder. Wanted more. And that AM engine that looked like it could Not……dominated and won in 3. Congratulations Andrew Murray. I am glad that he Mom called him back to give her, her deserved Love. Ivan Lendl is a Fantastic Coach.

    Hip, Hip, Hip, Murray ;)

Hear, hear Nena! I’m so happy for him and my Ivan (I had such a crush on him back in the day).

My sister liked him. I appreciated his skills and calm demeanor. Borg was my type of player. I didn’t even recognize Lendl today. He had not changed all that much. He finally cracked a smile. I did root for him to win Wimbledon. Ivan Lendl never did. But he made Murray a better Tennis Player. He is now with 2 Majors….and a Gold medal in the 2012 Olympics.

I was big-time into Ivan, Boris Becker and Mal Washington. Feeeevah!
Why, you may ask? I’un know. They just moved me. :-)

LOVED Boris Becker! Big Arthur Ashe fan, also Bjorn Borg, and Ivan Lendle was great. I haven’t followed tennis much in the last several years, so correct me if I’m wrong, but this seemed more like the matches before everyone just started slugging it out – net play, more touch than I remember seeing in a while (I just watched tiny bits here and there).

I know this is truly not the time…..but the idiots that were so busy watching SoS Kerry on his “yacht” where were they to watch and report that Teresa Heinz Kerry had fallen ill and was rushed to the Emergency Room?

A very interesting glimpse into the historical context of the New Testament. Saul, now Paul after a divinely-inspired conversion to Christianity, depicted in his letters many of the positive aspects of “Jesus-based Christianity” of the time, but it is very clear from the above example that (P)aul’s “human” side — the aristocratic and authoritative one — is present as well. Perhaps the gentleman holding the sign forgot how to interpret the Bible thoughtfully, compassionately, historically, and with a little bit of common sense. ;)
