Women are awakening all over the world. Malala, you are not alone.

Men know they have to control women as a central part in maintaining overall control. What’s so disturbing is that so many women acquiesce to this in the name of “tradition”, or “culture”, or “religion”.

From the end of the last thread.
As Mr. T once said, “I pity the fool”…….The ‘good old boy’s’ are about to find out that pulling a loggers chain from a grizzley bear’s butt would have been safer than pissing-off a lot of women. – smh

One thing about that, yardarm, is that women, myself included, have the longer memories. We have all wondered about selective amnesia as people voted for the same people that oversaw the crash, the Iraq and Afghanistan military invasions, the deficit explosion and the wage gap widening. I think women are less likely to fall victim to that once they assign the blame correctly and man I think we are solidifying who is trying to make us second class citizens again.

Just had a woman in my community say something I hadn’t heard before. She said a woman should never hold a position of authority over a man. Now I’ve heard women talk about having to submit to their husbands but not this new twist. Interesting isn’t it.

      • July 12, 2013 at 5:15 pm

It’s like they all live in bunkers, oblivious to the modern world.

      • July 12, 2013 at 5:35 pm

My manager is a gay woman, and she is hands down the best boss I’ve ever had. I’d take a bullet for her. So this straight Latino male has no problem with a woman in authority over him. That your acquaintance is so blinkered is a sad testimony to her personal poverty.

      Liberal Librarian,

I am always perplexed by the women who go along with these men. Indeed, religion is a good factor in their “obedience”.

I have an answer to that. It came from a forum I attended where Muslim women who were here as spouses of grad students or were students themselves explained why women submit to the submissive roles, the “modesty” police, the lack of rights, etc. They explained that its a trade off. They follow the rules imposed by the men in their society and family and they get unconditional social security, as in any male that is remotely related to them must step up and support them if they need it. If a husband passes away or a woman is simply single, without any recourse for him the next male in line must undertake the support of this woman and also her children if need be. All bets are off though (like a prenup) if the woman steps out of line in any way, whatever the rules are in her religious environment. Since the greater society helps maintain this by limiting females in their independent pursuits its really scary to cross this system.

The women that have no ability to conceive of an alternative to being supported by their spouses or fathers or whatever in our own country will readily follow what they are told to do and that includes policing other women. The American Taliban has lost this battle already. Women are more and more confident they can be self sufficient if need be. This is probably why the GOP is trying to cut off outside means of support for families that might need it like food stamps. They want to make it harder for women to get through on their own if they have to rather than be oppressed by someone.

‘…so many women acquiesce to this in the name of “tradition”, or “culture”, or “religion” ‘

Or in the name of “love” – don’t forget that one, LL.

This is another example to liberals and conservatives who think and say incidents of racism are few in this country. If you are not a minority in this country, you don’t know bullshit. You don’t get the stares, the looks of suspicion, and outright racist slurs tossed your way. This is 2013. This is a journalist who was dressed in a nice suit and still treated in this abhorrent manner. What was scary about him? Nothing. What was off about him? Nothing. This happened to him because of the color of his skin. This happened to him because he is black.

This is what minorities; in particular, African-Americans face almost everyday of their lives. So to those limousine liberals and conservative deniers who say racism isn’t alive and well; I say shut up. African-Americans know that the “n-word” doesn’t have to be said for them to be treated as inferior.

This happened to me in Seattle in September 2011, around 11 pm, across from the Cheesecake Factory. 3 well dressed adult AA women — my Mother (79 w/a cane), a 4’6″ 35 y/o w/cerebral palsy, and all 5’6″ of me. Empty cabs with whizzed right by us for about 10 minutes; a white gentleman who had been engaged in conversation with his group noticed and walked over to assist; as soon as he stepped off the curb and put his arm up a cab stopped; the gent opened and held the door for us and apologized on behalf of his city…

So sorry you and your family experienced that. It’s sometimes a horrible world we live in. African-Americans know this first hand; they are just as likely to be called the “n-word” in liberal Washington, New York, or California as they are in red state Alabama.

I experienced the same thing in Washington DC. It was several people waiting for cabs, and all of the cabs kept passing us by and picking up the caucasian folks who were standing near us. It happened over and over.

This is for 57 and Female, from previous thread. (I hope I sent this tweet to the right person!)

Snopes apparently doesn’t allow copying and pasting, but scroll down to the “medical examiner’s report”… which describes Trayvon as being 5’11” and 158 pounds, will two discreet tattoos.

From what Mediaite posted today…..those were the comments made by Geraldo Rivera. He also went on to say that those Women Jurors would have acquitted Zimmerman longer that it took GZ to have murdered Trayvon Benjamin Martin.

Rivera is a total scum. A wicket scum. A total idiot.

Finally! What I believe. Just heard an atty. (msnbc) state that Florida and it’s NRA controlled lax gun laws has liability in the Zimmerman/Martin case. She said they are handing out guns in Florida as if they were M & M’s. (and now in all states with the NRA winning the day for conceal/carry everywhere) Guns and Florida gun laws should be on trial —-they are the real culprits. Gun nuts want everyone walking around with a gun tucked in their waist band or in their glove compartment, at the ready, to pull out at a moment’s notice in reaction to any perceived threat or insult or moment of anger. In this case I kept thinking if gun nut and numbnut Zimmerman hadn’t had a gun, the fight would have lasted only a few seconds/minutes more, because the cops arrived shortly after the shot and would have broken up the fight. Zimmerman may or may not have had another bump or bruise, but Trayvon would still be alive and Zimmerman would not be awaiting a verdict on a 2nd degree murder charge. Guns—–and we see the affects of their proliferation everywhere—-daily body counts—–are the real culprit and that we have allowed the NRA to buy and control our Congress and decide our gun laws—-to the detriment of all.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change much……with guns in USA. Lincoln and the rest of the Past POTUS’ killed by guns didn’t change a thing. If gun injuries are tied to Insurance and liability…….the number of guns would start to diminish. Right now, gun manufacturers are protected.

    • July 13, 2013 at 9:55 am

If Zimmerman hadn’t had a gun, he would never have followed and confronted Trayvon in the first place. He would have called the police about a person behaving suspiciously (i.e. a black kid walking in the neighborhood :( )

Hey TOD family – thanks for the great conversation about my frustration with Hubby and the Zimmerman trial and Hubby’s Moronic Friend. I needed some info (which I received from gn – thanks!) and we all had a great discussion.

I have to go on record though: My husband is a great guy. Kind, liberal, spiritual in the true sense of the word. He crawled out of an intellectual and moral swamp to make himself into a good man. He’s the best man I know. Once in awhile, he falls back in the mud and we have days like this. But they are not the norm.

Believe me, he has stormed out of Moronic Friend’s house more times than I can count, after arguments and shouting matches about PBO, gun control, Republicans, conservatisim & progressivism, the economy and what is True and what is Fallacy.

Just didn’t want you guys to get the wrong impression. You’d all be proud of how far he has come.

    • July 12, 2013 at 6:53 pm

Hubby needs to dump Moron Friend. His blood pressure will thank him for it.

We ask ourselves repeatedly why we continue this relationship. needless to say, it’s hubby and me who see him through tough times. Trying to think of when he put himself out for us…….
