Been here a while on your lonesome, LP, hope you weren’t too lonely??
No mam! Just happened to be by the CPU in the middle of “The Good Wife” marathon! I’m hooked……
Hiya! Congrats on first!
Excellent tweetage by the way. Keep up the great work!
TY…..I think it’s the only thing I’m good at! At least my that’s what my dad says……… Why can’t you cut the lawn on time? You’re always on the tweety thing. LOL

So the man that he insulted is charged with assault because this guy is a f*$*ng idiot. Wish he hadn’t fled the scene though — that really hurts his case.
As for the racist, I hope he learned his lesson and his wife never takes him back.
It seems as though the racists finally feel comfortable enough to come out of the woodwork and they are letting everyone know how insecure and angry they are.
When I did jury duty I was on a case that the judge said you have a right to protect yourself and retreat…
And how long did it take to arrest Zimmerman? Post-racial my ass!
I don’t like anything about that incident. None of it.
It sure does lp, and the message isn’t new!
I’ve been trying to avoid watching the trial….. I can’t imagine what the parents are going through, and I sure as hell am not interested in what the *legal experts* have to say…day-in-day-out.
Wise move I think. However, some of us have been at the back of the bus for too long to ignore the daily machinations.
The country has progressed a long way from your generation, but not 80% as far as people want to pretend it has….
Not really. Now they come to the back of the bus and drag your ass off and either shoot you or throw you in jail.
Got a laugh out of this one…..BBL

It isn’t a Saturday until you encounter this. I just don’t know how anyone can find Greenwald and Snowden the slightest bit credible.

Chris Hayes and Bill Press prove they are not serious journalists by supporting Snowden, and their shows should be boycotted.
Neither Chris Hayes or Bill Press are journalist. They are both commentators and or radio/talk show host. We mistakenly ascribe them as “journalist” because they are on TV. There are very few real journalist nowadays to the detriment of our country.
Do we happen to know what language it is this Greenwald person thinks he speaks?? Or does he just imagine he knows how to write in English, and thinks and speaks something else entirely? He not only sounds as if he lacks credibility, he sounds illiterate. IMHO. Pretty murky mental process going on in there…. and you tell me there are people who actually listen to him? Huh.
You are absolutely correct MightyPamela, his writing is atrocious, and he’s supposed to be a “journalist’??? He sounds pretty scared and desperate.
Chuck Schumer Wants NYPD’s Ray Kelly To Be Next Homeland Security Chief
Mr. Stop & Frisk??? Hell, NO!
You think that’s bad? D-VA Jerry Connolly is floating Susan Collins and Joe Lieberman is popping up!!!! Only names I am impressed w/ are Craig Fugate & Adm. Thad Allen…
I have always thought Jerry Connolly was serious and bright. Was I wrong. Lieberman who supported McCain is bad enough, but Susan Collins is one of the most laughable suggestions in DC history.
Just got an email inviting me to join OFA call with Wendy Davis Tues night @8pm…check your emails and join the call.

Yay! and Yay!
No debt limit negotiations-
But if they dig in and do the same as before what choice does POTUS have?
I may be completely off here but I think they are pushing PBO to use an executive order about raising the debt ceiling re national security; then they will resort to trying to impeach him…
Hard to hold the debt limit hostage when the last 2 months have seen HUGE budget surplus’…..that train will continue to roll for the coming months…setting the Republican plan to hold America hostage with this, over.
They still gotta fund government at the same time!
Separate from raising debt limit!
Not for the GOP df – they hold everyone hostage who dared to vote for PBO. I have been trying to work out why the attacks on women in the states – has to be because too many women voted for PBO – no other reason needed
(re-posted from the previous thread as suggested by Donna)
All right, I took the time to read it, and the two things that I find iffy are:
1) Exceptions to the 20 weeks rule: as far as I understand the only exception is if carrying out the pregnancy would endanger the woman´life of if the baby would have certain birth defects. As I see it the following exceptions are not mentioned: rape and incest. What about minors, too?
2) Standards of places that can provide abortions: I googled health standards but didn´t get anything concrete so whereas this sounds reasonable to me at first, the devil might be in the detail.
If I may express my opinion here, and I hope to not step on anyone´s toes since I think we are all reasonable adults here:
There are a few things that confuse and annoy me about all of this.
a) the things I just listed. That´s what bugs me about the bill.
b) extreme sides: why does it have to be the accuation of baby killers on the one side and the accuation of fascism on the other. Why not find a more common ground in the public debate in which women´s health is ensured, abortion is an option with my suggested broadening of exception, yet there is the mindfulness that after 20 weeks it is not recommendable? That is not to be set equal to banning or preventing, but i think moral implications cnanot be left out here entirely. There has to be good councelling (religion aside here though) and that includes not just working on a bill like that but on other things as well. Things that curve teenage pregnancy and poverty for one.
(btw, this of course refers to the texas bill)
I think you make some interesting points. The right likes to focus on the “20 week” issue because it tugs at the conscience of some of America. Although Americans feel that a women still should have the right to be the final say in her reproductive rights and that republican state governments should not be manipulating the law of the land to satisfy their own beliefs, R’s know that the 20 week abortion ban polls well so they make that their focus. The bottom line is that Republican/Conservatives want to ban all abortions and Liberal/Democrats want it to remain the law. Safe, legal and rare. This is one of those passionate issues that each side will find very hard to find “common ground”. Roe v Wade made it the law and so the R’s simply want to overturn the law. They are passing these egregious laws because they want it to end up in the Supreme Court where they hope this Conservative SS will over turn the law all together.
They never consider preventive care which to me would be a common ground measure because honestly they are so in bed with the religious right that they feel they would then be condoning sex outside of marriage. It seems to me if they are so concerned about abortion they should make every effort possible to prevent the pregnancy in the first place.
Why are legislatures – men in particular – even entering into the debate – I cannot get past the fact that they do not do it for safety, protection or any reason that is sensible – they do it to downgrade women – to control women – which is why men rape.
To me legislated related to women’s reproduction is used by men who treat it as “legalized rape”. They realize rape is a crime for which they may (only may) be held responsible – so find other ways to intimidate and control women. The women who vote for this legislation have NO understanding of the harm that men would do to women through such laws.
How the rwnj’s really feel.

Ooooooh, that’s just perfect.
It just struck me as on point.
I can’t believe this “gerrymandering” crap still hangs on.
It’s basically really simple, folks. To have a majority in the House, you need 218 seats. In the 29 states that actually register voters by party, Republicans have 27 percent of registrations. That means three quarters of voters are NOT registered Republican. Got it? It is absolutely NOT POSSIBLE for such a minority to gerrymander themselves into a majority

And now she is crying all over twitter – hope she has learned some truths about life today.
These are the women who have no understanding that the legislation against abortion has NOTHING to do with the babe & everything to do with MEN controlling women’s lives. Hopefully some of her children are girls who will fight this legislation as they grow and understand.

Heads up! NEWSROOM tonight HBO @ 8:00 cst!
Tonight? I thought it was tomorrow. Gotta go get HBO back (which I keep cancelling because of Bill Maher).
Bill maher had on Cornell West who told everybody that the first AA President should be put in trial for war crimes…
Jovie, that ****er has been saying that for years, he’s a DICK.
Will try not to watch Real Time … think I’ve canx HBO three times since 2010, because of stuff like that, and let the cable company know it was my little political protest! (I’m sure they care what I think.)
Wow…there are no lengths to which he will go with his Anti Obama rhetoric…
You are right. I just checked again and this is a rerun from 8/26/2012. Sorry folks.
I personally am glad you mentioned it, b/c I’m hooked back up to HBO in prep for tomorrow night (even got a “deal”). Love that show.
Good for you.
Yardarm that’s a re-run from last year. The Newsroom Season 2 premiers tomorrow night at 10:00 PM EST.
Gotcha. I just checked. Sorry I jumped the gun. I getting tired of trial coverage I guess.
Right now I’m trying to find out the time fir “Who do you think you are?”
I’m sure it’s been mentioned that the Zimmerman jury has asked for clarification on instructions for a Manslaughter decision. Not going to speculate – as the HLN pundits are – because you never know what a jury is thinking.
It’s impossible to know what they’re thinking but this is NOT a good sign for the defense. But what they do with the information and what happens next is anybody’s guess.
Court in recess for 30 minutes.
It appears to me that the jury is considering the entire question of self-defense.
It’s all so agonizing Meta, to think what Trayvon’s family went through when he was murdered, and now they have to endure this. Unimaginable.
Chips, I cannot tell you how sickened I feel about all of this. The trial was a mess and I know they are in tremendous pain. I am holding onto hope that the jurors – 5 of whom are mothers – will have the presence of mind to see how Trayvon was HUNTED.
I am so with you on that, meta. Will not give up hope, because maybe the jury is just covering all bases – since they have consciences to carry with them the rest of their life if they don’t. Saying a silent prayer.
JO’B, the law is complex but I think anyone with an open heart and mind who looks at the evidence will conclude that GZ spun a web of lies and deceit to cover up what really happened. He made a very fatal decision and must face the truth.
Agree with all of that, especially the “with an open heart and mind,” and that’s the part I’m praying for … and will add common sense to the mix, because the cover up implies guilt. And, in my mind, he’s more than guilty, and we need to get him off the streets.
Hoping with you Meta, it’s just impossible to think about the alternative.
Is the Obama daughters at camp this summer?
We’ll never know what happened that night btwn Zimmerman & Martin. We do know if there hadn’t been a gun, they’d both be alive to tell us.— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) July 13, 2013
Jurors question "may we please have clarification on the instructions regarding manslaughter" #zimmermantrial— Molly Hennessy-Fiske (@mollyhf) July 13, 2013
Self defense thrown out the window seemingly. I have been thinking it would come down to a manslaughter charge in the end. Foremost criteria “reckless regard for human life”. We certainly have that.
I’ve been watching the trial from the start and I think this is the primary question they will grapple with. I do believe the state proved reckless disregard for Trayvon Martin.
But I heard a lawyer on one of the programs say after the trial ended that the manslaughter charge in Florida includes the instruction that if Zimmerman believed he was under threat of death OR serious bodily harm, that there could be no conviction, that it doesn’t even need to be true in reality, only that the jury believed that he believed he was under threat of bodily harm. I thought—wow—-the jury has a tough job there —-or any jury in any case involving the manslaughter charge, because any defendant could say they felt threatened—-and would have a license to kill. Anyone know if this is, in fact, the case there?
is the obama daughters on vacation this summer
All I know is that Zimmerman is guilty of murder. Trayvon is not here today because of him
If a 28 black man killed a 17yr old unarmed white kid, the jury would be asking "How fast can we inject him?" #ZimmermanTrial— Joe Opoku-Duku (@BirthOfCoolest) July 13, 2013
This unfortunately is the sad reality
It’s nearly 6:30 and the jury has not had a dinner break. They have asked for clarification on the charge of manslaughter.
Unfortunately I think that’s what they’ll go for- is Manslaughter. I just don’t think they’ll see this as Murder 2.. I have little faith.
I don’t fell that’s necessarily a bad thing. The penalties are nearly the same.
I didn’t know that meta, I assumed that manslaughter would carry a lighter sentence. thanks.
I believe he is subject to 30 years if found guilty on manslaughter, same as second degree.
This is due to the use of a gun in the act.
thanks. He took more than 30 years from Trayvon Martin.
I just want him convicted of murder….
I do too pf. I don’t care if the charges carry the same time.. I think a murder conviction would be justice.
Beyonce tour will be in Chicago Wednesday night at the United Center. Think FLOTUS and the girls might go.
They’re all going to Martha’s Vineyard on the 8th…
Beyonce will be here in DC at the Verizon Center on 07/30/2013. I would guess they will be attending as guest of Miss Bey
Next Wednesday is the 17th I think. So Beyonce will be in DC the 30th. Okay, well I imagine it will be one of those days FLOTUS will see Beyonce in concert.
I wonder under Florida Statutes how many years a manslaughter charge is?
30 years max. Speculation is he would be sentenced to something less than that.
And how does stand your ground impact this law?
Does it circumvent?
I think the defense gave that up—-would not be part of the case.
No, it would be 30 years.
I believe it is “up to” 30 years. But I’m no expert on Florida law. Or anything Florida. It’s goofy there.
I read possible 30yrs. Normally 15 years, but the sentence is harsher if it involves a child, elderly. the disabled or caregivers
It’s the use of a gun that triggers the longer sentence.
And no parole in Fl. manslaughter sentence.
Attorneys are back in court and providing their response to the juror’s request. Prosecution requesting a more limited requirement on the question from the jurors. They want it to be more focused and specific as to which aspect of the manslaughter charge they do not understand. They are providing case citations.
Judge Nelson is agreeing to this.
thank you for your commentary Meta….I cannot watch….my heart is in my throat….
xoxoxo. Me, too.
One thing about Judge Nelson, she does not put up with ANY guff.
Thanks meta for the updates.
