Hi Layla! Congrats. How are you?
I am Ok but more importantly how are you….
I’m ok too.
Seems like I missed a good one while sitting at my laptop typing.
Thanks, Ms Chips – Will wait to see it in its entirety. God continue to bless you, Mr. President!
Well, I turned 44 today. Should I pre-register for a death panel? Hate to leave those things until the end.
Happy Birthday young fella, hope you’re having a blissful day!
So far I am. My best friend from childhood had a Facebook post marveling about racism. (He’s from Haiti.) Post-racial society my ass.
Happy Birthday LL. Enjoy, you are only 44 once. :) :) :)
Happy Birthday. Party time.
Happy Birthday LL!
Damn, LL, I have shoes older than you! Happy Birthday, anyway, kiddo!
BTW, my grandson Lance shares your birthday; another reason to like you…
Happy 44th Birthday LL!! :) Hope you can have even if just one gimlet today!
You know, I had two gimlets last night. I’m not being very good. I’ll probably get back on the wagon once the missus returns tomorrow.
Sounds like a fine plan! Tomorrow is just one day away.
LL, Happy Birthday! I’m glad your wife is coming home tomorrow. Hope you have a great day celebrating your birthday.
Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your day. And since it’s Friday, maybe you can celebrate all weekend! :-)
I’ll try again. My first comment went into “never never land.
Happy Birthday youngster. Enjoy YOUR day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY young blood!
Happy Birthday LL. We are both July babies as mine is on Monday. Hope you have an awesome day.
Another reason why I simply ADORE this man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Donna, so do I. I was riveted and hanging on every word. This meant so much to me.
Make no mistake y’all, this is a BFD!
Yes indeed yardarm!!!! My President is heartbroken!
Can we get a clip without racist comment section Chips? Wanna post it to my FB when I get home
It’s the only one I can find so far Lamh, don’t click through to YouTube, either here or on Facebook, and you won’t see the racist scum.
Wow…..Chips you are Fast. Thanks.
Wishing you many happy returns, LL!
Thanks Chips, for taking the time to bake such a lovely cake. I will have a slice now. Thanks vc for putting in the order and delivering this beautiful cake.
:nudge. nudge. wink. wink: CC’s getting better and better, ain’t she, Hopef? I don’t hesitate as long as I used to in asking for her cake help. ;)
Yes, I see that she copied your recipe exactly…no wonder the cake came out as it did…Maybe PBO sent her a text ordering her to use your recipe instead of hers?!?!? :) :) :)
Well now, Hf, I have no intention of claiming the recipe. Next thing I know CC’ll go off in a huff and leave the baking to me. *I* do NOT BAKE, at. all. at all! She did a fine job, she did it herself and I ain’t saying nuttin’ differently.
LOL! You are a very kind soul vc. Chips owes you a whole cake for this. :) :) :)
Next birthday – she has lots of time to get even better! Maybe I can ask for snow-white butter-cream icing – the one that goes on wedding cakes.
OOohhh….YUM..vc stop it…you are making me hungry!! :) :) But yeah, she definitely owes you the cake of your dreams. LOL!
President Obama: "Trayvon Martin could have been me, 35 years ago"

In other news, Israeli-Palestinian peace talks are going to resume, according to Sec. Kerry.
#BREAKING: Secretary of State John Kerry says agreement reached to resume peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians— (@msnbc) July 19, 2013
In other words, this is the most progress made by a SoS in over 12 years. Since Arafat pulled a fast one and walked out on Bill Clinton. I will always give Bill Clinton props for trying as hard and getting as far as he did.
Many Happy Reruns of the day, LL! hope you get some b’lloons!! :)
Inspired, warmed and chilled at the same time, proud, tearful, riveted…….
Obviously I’m staying off of Twitter today. Not because it’s erupting in stupidity, but because I don’t want to spend my entire birthday watching the scroll. But I’ll pop in to see you fine folks now and again.
Happy Birthday, LL. Wise decision.
Happy Birthday, LL! You deserve a day off from ugliness. This is your day to share with the people you love and who love you back unconditionally.
Happy, happy birthday, LL!
Time 6:50 in the video is what we need to focus on. We need to let young AA males know they are valued and have a place in our country.
To that I scream HERE HERE. To the haters like Cornel West that has criticized our President in regards to this tragedy, what exactly is he doing to help the young men in our AA communities? He calls them brothers, and talks the talk, but he is in his own ivory tower, he has long since pulled his hand away from the ladder to help the AA youth. His poison makes me sick. Can’t wait till the full video is up.
Full video of the President’s remarks are available at cspan now.
Ms Chips, this apparently has the speech in its entirety – at least it has the beginning. Can you get what you need from it?
Okay, I see you did find part 1 – very speedy, thou art! Thanks.
Wow, he is beyond amazing. I don’t know how we got this lucky to have him as our President. I’m pretty overwhelmed right now with emotion. Thanks Chips for all these videos!!
I’m pretty overwhelmed ,,,,so am I forus! Too many emotions all at once!
Am just listening to what he has to say. I think all of us who care have had very heavy hearts and not sure where to go other than making sure we vote.. This President is amazing. I feel so fortunate to have the honor of being alive during his time in the White House. So much to absorb from this speech. Once again thank you all for coming to this place that Chips built. We are all apart of this and we are going to be an important part of this.
LL, Happy Birthday. I also have shoes that are older than you. I admire you so much. Your writing is so important. Have an absolutely beautiful day!!!!
So true mt. I agree with all of your post! I wish I could express myself better.
Another very remarkable moment by President Obama. He is always so impressive in the way he is able to talk in a comprehensive way about complicated, difficult and heart weary issues. He addresses all concerns, does not shy away from mentioning all aspects of this case. As the panelists on Tamron’s show expressed, President Obama is unique in that he is able to talk from both sides. But in the way he personalized the concerns of the AA community, relating his own experiences, is of supreme importance, imho. I have run out of superlative adjectives for this man. There will never be another with his depth of talent.
I can honestly say I’ve never been more proud of OUR president! I was riveted to the TV, and
still feel overwhelming emotion. We are truly blessed to have this man in our lives.
Indeed carol, indeed. :)
How outraged should I be about this?
“Reid, who has called himself “pro-life,” said Sunday that he was open to allowing a Senate vote on the [ban on abortions after 20 weeks recently passed by the House], though he added that it should not be the chamber’s primary focus.
“I think we should deal with the problems that affect this country,” Reid said during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “We need to do something to help the American working class and stop worrying about fringe issues.”
Is it possible the Democratic Majority Leader of the Senate is uninformed on the issues of abortion after 20 weeks (which are extremely rare): the health of the mother and the heartbreaking decision about a severely deformed child that someone wanted? He wants the government to interfere and micromanage personal health issues?
Or he wants to get re-elected, next time, so he’s paying lip service. I’m hoping he’ll be the “same old Harry,” going forth, and ignore the “fringe issues” he mentioned.
BOOM RT @HaroldItz The people who believe Trayvon had no right to be where he was also believe Obama has no right to be where he is.
Happy Birthday LL….great speech. On a better note, the man in Georgia set to be executed has won his stay. Just to remind you I am a proud Aunt:
Off to work…have a great Friday. Remember, Friday’s are always good.
So happy to see you post this, pmogz! Your niece must be thrilled:)
“Our better Angels” I love our President. We are at a crossroads in our country. The voting rights act gutted, Trayvon Martin, the attack on womens rights. The hate coming from so many, the unmasking of the vile and poison that some feel so “safe” in now spreading. OUR BETTER ANGELS…they must get out.
Thank you, Mr. President, for your very personal and very presidential statement on Trayvon Martin.— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) July 19, 2013
I have always like and respect Nancy Pelosi.
I do not have the words to describe what I just saw and heard from our president; no words to describe how I feel. “What manner of manner man is this?” OMG, OMG. I love this man.
Get ready; the haters and the Zimmerman apologist are going to fill the airways for the rest of the summer
That’s okay – let them hate. At some point (sooner than we think) their hate is going to turn inward and self-destruct.
Should be: “What manner of man is this?”
A DAMN GOOD ONE!
I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now and can only say that the amount of gratitude and love I have for this president is beyond measure. This is the man to govern and lead our country, our people at this time in history.
He makes me proud everyday that he is President of the United States. He went there bold with the truth. Thank you, Pres. Obama.
He’s our Honest Ob.
I am going to forgo commenting on this until I have the time to fully understand this.
Breaking down “white supramecy” will take time, but I am willing to work on it, until it is done.
People hating on #PBO for speaking truth-YOU are the problem.Country can't progress if u don't change. You're holding us all back #p2 #race— RitaC (@rchakras) July 19, 2013
Just makes me angry and sad at the same time…
I guess the dumb down media is pretty surprised at this decision of PBO to come out and speak about this matter. Showing yet again that the media is nothing more then a bunch of dumbshits.
That’s MY President!!
CNN’s White pundits heads are exploding.
Means that PBO has done something right.
And I liked what President Obama said about a “national conversation”. I am tired of that response. It is weak and empty, an escape response. And I agree with President Obama that whenever some politician talks about a need for a national conversation, there is never a national conversation. It ends up being meaningless. Instead Obama talked about the need for individuals to search themselves, to talk within families, to make sure we are all wringing out all our biases.
That struck me as particularly insightful on his part. I liked this speech.
I am so very grateful to be a witness to this time in history
We'll only bridge the divides in our country by talking honestly about them.
POTUS performed a great service today.— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) July 19, 2013
Howdy O’s!!! What a GREAT getting up day in TODville!!!!!! PBO is firmly ensconced in the WH, the election is valid, and we’ve just witnessed the iron fist in the velvet glove. The steely resolve of the Black (yes I said Black) President of these United States as only a Black President can feel.
The dialogue has begun and this gives the nutties yet another topic to show their true colors (pun intended).
Now off I go, because unexpectedly, both #1 AND #2 AND the grandkids are in my house at the same time and all is truely well!!!
we’ve just witnessed the iron fist in the velvet glove…I love that soooo much!!!!!!
I’ll bet the members of the press corps who went home early for the weekend are sorry they did.
By speaking out on this so personally and with so much truth, empathy, and quiet resolve, PBO is helping to bind our wounds.
I know the right wing haters will have alot to say, but to be honest who gives a dam. This President never does anything right as far as they are concern.
I’m so proud of our President.
I'm reminded once again how much of an idiot Luke Russert is. Thank you @TheCycleMSNBC for refreshing my memory.— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) July 19, 2013
Luke is a real bummer next to his dad.
Did you catch that diss he made about ” legislative achievements ” ?
I dislike Luke
He isn’t even a pimple on his old mans ass.
Luke Russert is one of those big mouth Republicans who think he knows everything. He got were he is because who his daddy is. Nothing else.
Exactly anniebella! I expect nothing more from a legacy hire with no true skill in the profession he was hired for.
Any one else catch this?
Ingham County judge rules Detroit bankruptcy be withdrawn detroitnews.com/article/201307…— Alycee (@jazziz2) July 19, 2013
“It’s cheating, sir, and it’s cheating good people who work,” the judge told assistant Attorney General Brian Devlin. “It’s also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy.”
Aquilina said she would make sure President Obama got a copy of her order.
Thank you Mr. President. Continue to ignore Tavis Frowney. :)
A must watch for everyone. I am in constant awe of him. What a mighty good man.
President Barack Obama's full remarks on the murder of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. youtu.be/MHBdZWbncXI— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) July 19, 2013
Wow, Randi Rhodes is criticizing PBO’s short speech, saying that he should have covered a lot more. I did not expect him to address every wrong by singling out cases. What in the heck did she expect? This was not the forum for what she is talking about.
Plus she’s going off about Detroit and why hasn’t he swooped in and saved it from bankruptcy already. SMH
I know. What makes it so bad is that Randi knows better. She should know that congress has to approve everything. She is really disappointing me today.
Why have Randi Rhodes done for Detroit? Everyday she sit on her ass running her darn mouth, this President can’t do every darn thing. And I don’t know how you guys can stand to listen to such crap like that coming from Rhodes.
And she had the nerve to say that she think that a lot of people were disappointed with PBO. Okay, I am turning her off now. She has angered me. I will have to catch her another day. She must have had a bad night or something. She wanted him to address every single problem in that one speech.
Randi is becoming a bullshitter, Cos. She carried on about Snowden and thought he did good. I couldn’t believe this is the same Randi I followed for years, since the Bush years. I didn’t hear what she said today- she’s busy now playing the tape of “the pig’s (Trayvon’s killer) cousin’s telling of him sexually abusing her. If she indeed said people were disappointed in PBO, she apparently is trying to speak for black people, and she cannot do that. As savvy as she is, she cannot know who I am. As far as I am concerned she has bit the dust. Grown stale and moldy. So sad for her. And now I am turning her off.
The left media continues to expose their dirty slips. It feels to me as though they play a game of “whose turn is it to be disappointed in something Obama did or said today?” Everything is about them and no one else.
Rhodes is being disingenuous and selfish – this speech was not intended for the left or right media – it was intended for the American people of every background, Black America – and especially the young Black men in our society.
Let the left media continue to worm its way into obscurity, while we let our President lead us forward.
oh boy…now we are getting ” what took him so long ” question from Little Luke.
Well here is your answer you loser jerk.
I am so proud of our President, and grateful to be alive during his Presidency.
To those worshipers of the ‘stars and bars, Southern Strategy, and white power’, the war has been over for over 150 years. YOU LOST. The Alamo is also DONE. It’s time YOU get over it. It’s time for you ‘good old boys’ to hit your rockers on the front porch so you can scratch yer dogs behind the ears and spit!
We all know what those on the right and the extreme left will have to say about what our president said. No surprises here. PBO was not speaking to and for them, but for all of the rest of us, as always. Let us rejoice in this earth-moving moment and give no place in our hearts or minds to the usual suspects.
Thank you for once again speaking honestly about what we have to do to make and move our country to be more perfect. We are the ones who have to speak up and be actively involved in our democracy. We can’t become cynical and give up. That’s what the people who are more interested in making profits, than improving our lives want.
Why oh why did I go to that place and wade in the comments section. I love to punish myself I guess. Now I am sad and depressed. Will I ever learn? I will just continue to lift the President up.
I am going to watch all of this on ROKU later today. But love all the remarks from you all, It is an occasion to mark and save this speech I think. I want to watch even the stupid Press Corp with Carney. So I can wait until it is posted. Love you all. And you are all correct, I am so grateful I have lived through his Presidency. :) :)
I am deeply thankful that I lived to witness the Presidency of Barack H. Obama. I never imagined it would happen in my lifetime –or for that matter the lifetime of my children. The United States is lucky to have elected a President who is smart, compassionate, courageous, and who fully understands history.
And he’s cute too :-D
