And, it was obvious to me, and apparently to quite a few others the core ‘racial profiling’ aspect of that horrid Benjamin attack on #PBO – the choice of AG Holder to construct his ‘you aren’t really black’ slur.

Am pleased to see how many people have castigated Salon, Benjamin and Sorota.

AB, most people don’t really know the full story of Snowden and most polls don’t ask about the guy giving US information to other countries and thus endangering US lives. Unless we know exactly the questions asked, the poll is meaningless.

        July 20, 2013 at 9:41 pm

I think “these people” are the ones who are really not that into politics. They listen to conspiracy theories because it’s easier than working things out for themselves. They only go as far as to hear soundbites and emotionally react to them instead of taking the though process to the next level, like “Is it just government spying on me?” or “Did we know about this stuff before Snowden?” or “Is this spying stuff new?” etc etc… “These people” are more about reacting to the idea that somebody might know their fascination with furries than questioning how their latest version of Windows knows precisely where they live.

What ho TOD Peeps. What a day; my heart is full. I attended the Justice for Trayvon Martin rally in Downtown LA at the Federal Court Building this morning. And there were rallies all over So Cal this morning. Our rally started at 9 am to coincide with the 12 pm start time on the East Coast. I expected a sparse turnout because of that earlier start time, but was quickly disabused of that as I could hear loud chants of No Justice No Peace as we all walked up the street to the court house this morning from my car. All size, ages, shapes and colors, I could see in each direction on Spring Street. I was particularly moved by an interracial couple (he was white, his wife African American). He spoke very eloquently to the crowd while he cradled his newborn son who slept peacefully in his arms. And a shout out to the Latino brother who gave a fiery speech in both English and Spanish to the crowd. Once the rally concluded, we marched through downtown, fired up but peaceful.
Unfortunately, I got no pix cuz I’m still old skool, as I still own a cell phone and not a smart phone much to my family’s HORROR.
But the images from today are ones that are etched in my mind forever. #Justice4Travyon #Forward KnowJusticeKnowPeace

It is no small thing that Justice Rosemarie Aqualina Ordered that a copy of her legal opinion be sent to the President himself. In her ruling she cites Article IX, Sec. 24 of the Michigan Constitution, which states:

“The accrued financial benefits of each pension plan and retirement system of the state and it’s political subdivisions shall be a contractual obligation thereof which shall not be diminished or impaired thereby.”

Her ruling, in which she ordered an immediate withdrawal of the bankruptcy filing, also states that in order for a municipal bankruptcy to legally proceed, the public body must voluntary support it. Under Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law the public body has no voice in the matter, only the Emergency Manager and the Governor have power to determine what happens within the city of Detroit.

It is not a common occurrence in the United States where a Circuit Court Judge delivers a copy of an Order directly to the President of the country. It’s indicative of her awareness of a long-standing problem with the MI Emergency Management Law, and a call for the President himself to intervene in what has become a major source of controversy within the state and across the country.

The video would be fine if they did not include the pic with Trayvon face down after he was shot. I am not confident that his parents could bear to look at that scene and relive it every time. As a parent I know I couldn’t. It would eat at my soul every time.

“Michele Bachmann is the parakeet in the mines of the Republic, sounding the warning of our declining intellect and our perilous abandonment of reason and the silently rising poisonous gases of hate and fear and blind ignorance.

It’s not the chirping that concerns me, so much as the silence.”

Both the presidential candidates in Chile are women.

Both candidates lived in the same air base of Quintero during their childhood and their parents became good friends, despite their distant political views, says the BBC’s Ignacio de los Reyes.

“We have two women running for president. They are both the daughters of Armed Force generals, they are both successful professionals, they are both experienced,” said Mr Melero.

“But there is a difference in the project they want for the country.”

Ms Bachelet has vowed to address Chile’s social inequality and to raise taxes in order to give free university education for all.

Ms Matthei has not as yet unveiled her programmed, but she backs Mr Pinera’s economic policies, which have brought sustained growth to Chile.

The vote takes place on 17 November. A runoff will be held on 15 December if neither candidate obtains more than 50% of the vote.
