Other than the kinks from the aging reality, I am doing fine Dudette, Thank you so much for asking. I always enjoy your comments and the fabulous music you share, but since I am a late night, early morning, visitor I usually don’t comment as much. I love music. I still wish I was young enough to be able to have the opportunity to party with you. Your knowledge of the different genres of music is absolutely breathtaking!

The widening of the gap is horrifying. (Now it is obvious why the right got rid of unions) When I got my first job (after university) in 1960s the CEO of my company earned 10 times my salary. Today the CEO of that company earns 100 times the basic employee salary. Greed – no other word describes it. No person is worth a salary in the millions of $$ – no-one. In the US the President is the person who most earns his salary. No-one should ever be paid more than the President – no-one else has a job that comes anywhere near his level of responsibility.

If folks want to earn money through investment, entrepreneurship fine – but when you are simply paid a salary – no way you EVER work harder, or have more responsibility than PBO.

The other day I was talking to a coworker and we were discussing how our company overworks and underpays. (It is a wonderful company that has been around for 50 years, but because it is now a corporation, we — the employees and our customers are getting shafted). They cut corners to give the CEO his big bucks. I said to her how I’m just so sick of the corporate environment and the big CEOs getting all the money, (now this is a woman, mind you, who was complaining about how crappy our pay is)…her automated response was, something to the effect of the union leaders being the greedy ones and her eyes glared at me, it was just a moment, but enough to not want to make a deal about it. What I wanted to say was, “but we’re not even unionized, why would we bring them up?”
It’s just an automatic response because that’s what Fox has told them. This is an otherwise very bright woman.
I shouldn’t be surprised though — this is Texas.

        GM nath…

White Supremacy is a belief system..a complicated one at that…how do you go about breaking thru…oftentimes when you try to challenge that system that person just holds onto it tighter…that belief system has a tendency to define them…it is something that they have clung to all their life….and it has been reinforced by policy…and the dominant culture…

you have folks like Limbaugh and Hannity spewing Hate and Hate rhetoric every single day…and who challenges it…

We CHALLENGE it every day of our lives thru organized protests and individual interaction…i fear that this strugle for human dignity…economic and racial equality…is everlasting…

        But so be it!

The President has waged a battle against these same forces since he won office in 2008…with an untiring spirit…i take solace from him…and say…that I am NO Ways Tired!

Pretty foot — ditto what Eric said.
I want to add to it — there WILL come a day when the struggle will not be as difficult. I will assume there will always be conflict and strife, poverty, racism, bigotry, sexism…but I do believe that we are approaching a period of enlightenment, where we will understand each other better, where we WILL live in harmony. I see the future, and it’s good. The GOTPs will be defeated this next mid term, and by the time 2016 rolls around they will be on their way to complete extinction and THAT will be the time when we will finally feel that peace that we’ve been looking forward to — President Obama’s vision, MLK’s vision, JFK’s vision, Abraham Lincoln’s vision.

I ask everyone to check on YouTube “The Amazing Racist”. I know it sounds horrible, …but you have to suspend your disbelief and see what this guy is doing. We have to be able to laugh at the haters — laugh in their faces because that is what they fear the most.
Also, I have to wonder if they actors or real people?
It’s very much like Sascha Baron Cohen.

Morning! Happy August! Here’s some very cool science stuff for your early morning read:)

    http://bobcesca.thedailybanter.com/blog-archives/2013/08/warp-nine-engage.html

It’s official. NASA is investing in warp speed research:

NASA has invested $50,000 in equipment for “warp speed” research that would allow space travel faster than the speed of light. The research remains in the science phase and is unlikely to produce a practical application in the near future, but the team’s intention is to get the ball rolling.

    Buckle up!

Jobless claims plunge to lowest in six years

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell unexpectedly last week, touching a 5-1/2 year low, suggesting a steadily improving labor market.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 19,000 to a seasonally adjusted 326,000, the lowest level since January 2008, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the prior week were revised to show 2,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected first-time applications to rise to 345,000 last week.

GM df – imagine if the governments (state, local) were doing their job (or in the case of the Fed – allowed to do their job) – the figures would be so much better. The only thing left for the GOP is to attack govt employment – everything else they have tried has failed.

I am slightly distraught about our politics – don’t like the new PM at all – and the opposition is worse. Our state government is GOP Inc., $ is falling in value & I believe it could all be better – but then I see PBO facing all they throw at him & STILL your employment grows – so while he is your President – there is hope and good thoughts. Enjoy your day

    More EXCELLENT news!!

    Mitch McConnell Loses Control
First Read: “A month ago, McConnell had a strong command over his Senate GOP conference; a month ago, he had no general-election challenger; and a month ago, he had no GOP primary. Now everything has fallen apart for the GOP leader. And the one thing his team had been trying to avoid — a primary challenge — has now become a reality. He’s in a big political bind: McConnell has a Republican conference that now regularly breaks with him on enough things that it only energizes some of the conservative skeptics who have been trying to go after McConnell for years. We’re guessing there’s no one that might be looking less forward to the August recess and the coming fall budget battles than Mitch McConnell.”

Of course, there’s also that new poll that shows him losing to Democratic challenger Alison Lundergran Grimes.

    Karma is a wonderful thing:)

    Over on the House side…………………….

    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2013/08/01/house_republicans_in_total_disarray.html

Top Republicans halted debate on the House’s version of a bill to fund the Departments of Transportation and House and Urban Development “once they realized it had no chance of passage,” Roll Call reports.

“The bill foundered not only because a couple dozen conservative Republicans thought it would spend too much, but also because a small but pivotal number of Republican moderates had joined virtually all the Democrats viewing the depth of the proposed cuts as too deep.”

First Read: “We’ve made this point before, and we’ll make it again: Congressional Republicans aren’t on the same page right now on, well, ANYTHING… And if they can’t pass this bill, it’s hard to imagine how they can pass any kind of legislation relating to funding the government, which only strengthens the White House’s hand in the upcoming fiscal fights.”
