Good afternoon! :)
Congrats HF2 on First
Hey HF, and a good evening to you! :) Congrats!
@TheLastWord More propaganda. This "poll" actually reflects who the MSM wants running in 2016, and NOTHING else.— (@aspirational12) August 05, 2013
This is the same MSM that tried to convince the public of Paul Ryan’s “hotness” in 2012.
Speaking of hot… Can’t stop myself from posting (again).
@michaelcoleman Ha! "Heinrich: Hunk on the Hill." Nice pic, though, thanks for tweeting. http://t.co/F6JcQMI3qO— Arapaho415 (@arapaho415) August 01, 2013
The same MSM that predicted a Romney landslide and a Clinton/Ghouliani faceoff….bwaaahhhhhh ha ha ha!!! I laugh in their general direction.
I’ve just noticed we skipped past the 20.5 million mark while UT was captaining the ship all on her own – and without any tweety alerts to new posts because @theobamadiary was rain-bathing. Chelsea Girl? You rock.
CONGRATS on passing the 20.5 million mark, Chipsticks!!!! You, UT and all who comment and post on this magnificent blog perform a greatly needed and appreciated service to this country. This is the best source of unbiased news and opinion on the internet. THANK YOU!!!!!
Ah, thank you Eric – but all credit goes to UT for this milestone, I was busy failing to get my internet working consistently while this was happening, my language deteriorating with every miserable connection attempt, meanwhile UT was blogging away. So, hail UT!!!!
Indeed. UT did an OUTSTANDING job!
She did Hopefruit, but I just hope it’s not an omen for the new soccer/football season – if Chelsea perform as well as UT, United are screwed. :-(
Um..I have no comment on this matter….
What are you trying say missy?
This is your new gravatar/avi, Missus:
Oooh….Can you believe I actually love this? Has a certain grace to it. Nobility, worthiness, wholesomeness, class, dignity, health, vigor,….chickenfruitery…
OK I’m getting a bit carried away here. But you catch my drift! :) :)
    Might try that combination in my next cooking expedition.
Oh LAWD…now vc is going to have nightmares with this concoction! HAHAHAHAAhhahaha….
LOL! Chips, seriously where do you come up with all these various graphics for every idea & occasion!?!?!?!?
It’s easy Hopefruit, all I do is Google ‘Hopefruit is a chicken because she won’t enter the United v Chelsea battle (on the United side), really disappointed in her, I thought she was better than that’ – and with that, up comes the image
You & Google have ganged up on me! Where’s amk?
Off to complain to PBO about this….
Hopefruit, I already suspected Amk was Mr Twitter, he’s probably Mr Google too – so don’t expect any sympathy!

I’m right there w/ you HF! Uh-uh, not hearing. //posing as the 4 momkeys of wisdom! :)
BOOYAH!!!!!!!!! From your lips to the legs of the dynamite Chelsea team. Here’s to a fantastic Chelsea dominating season. Goooooooo BLUES!
OMG, ditto what ericfive said: This is the best source of unbiased news and opinion on the internet
Congrats Chips, UT and blog tyrants!!!
Awwww…thanks for the shout out Chips and congratulations to you Boss Cheesy Puffs!
Hey there all you O’s!!! What’s up on this great getting up day in TODville?!? I may have been conditioned, but for some reason, I’m ready for the 2014 mid-terms. I expect we keep the Senate but with gerrymandering, it’ll be tough to take back the House. I read somewhere that a gerrymandered district can turn around with an increase of 7% in voting for the other party. In areas where Dems out-register the ‘pubs, then GOTV can send the teapots packing.
Hi there Cookemom, every election has felt the same in recent times, but 2014 feels like the most important ever – just think what PBO could achieve if it all worked out. Methinks we need to be more fired up and more ready to go than ever!
Cookemom, sure the 2014 election will be tough, but that’s what they said about PBO in 2007. He was running a gazillion points behind Hillary, she was unstoppable, he was wasting his time, etc, etc, etc. I’m not going to let a little gerrymandering get in our way. If enough people get mad and go out to vote, gerrymandering won’t matter. It’s all in turnout. So let’s all work together to make people mad.

Morning / Afternoon, Obots!
You probably won’t see much of me for the next two weeks. We’re shifting our fiction section with our non-fiction section at the library, and I have lots of weeding to do. Plus, I was “volunteered” for another weeding project at another library next week. So by the time I start my vacation on the 17th I do feel I will have earned it.
I’ll try to write a couple of essays when I get off work; but more likely than not I’ll be focusing on my novel.
So carry on! #IStandWithPeteSouza
Hellooooooooooo LL! I thought you were going to say you’d be busy the next two week trying to kidnap Wayne Rooney. Okay, you have permission to be absent occasionally, but if the absence is too long I’ll hunt you down and force-feed you one of my culinary delights, you hear?
I so envy you, LL I’ll gladly help with the weeding if I can take them home. I read everything….at least twice. Glad to see the Mrs. is doing so well and appreciate everything you do here and at TPV.
Hey LL, I was wondering where you were, been missing your posts…we’re starting our vacations the same day :). Hey, it was great seein the REAL you in your pic the other day.

Beautiful tweet, Bob.
Thank you Chips. Hope you are having a very fine vacation; you’ve certainly earned it!!
You’re waaaaay too kind Bob!! Having a very lovely break, although I walked so much the last week I ran out of steam today, so having a seriously lazy day. And – de naaaaaaa – I found a spot where I can actually pick up a solid-ish internet connection, although it involves half my laptop being in the open air, which won’t be ideal if it starts to rain. As I mentioned to UT, a local gadgety place said they’d have, very soon, a mobile internety thingie that would solve ALL my problems – first it was Friday when it would arrive, then Saturday, then today, then tomorrow ….. do you see a pattern here? I suspect I’ll be home by the time it arrives. Never mind, all is good! Thanks Bob.
Well, the silver linings in the delay of delivery is that you will have it when you make your journey next year and you have a very good excuse – until it arrives – to leave your laptop in the bestest of all vacation modes – off!! :)
Bob, I just love how you see the positives in a not-completely-positive situation!!!
Like #PBO, an eternal (yet pragmatic) optimist :D :D
Which is I why I love the two of ya!!!
:) Thank you friend!!
Hello TODers! In case you’re interested: Wednesday, August 7, 10:00 a.m. PT:
Join President Barack Obama and Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff this Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) for a conversation about the current housing market.
Moderated by Spencer, the President will answer questions submitted by YOU, Zillow’s users and social media community.
You could shape the discussion!
Send your question via video, Twitter or Facebook.
The virtual event will be streamed on
Zillow.com/WhiteHouse and WhiteHouse.gov
I’m a zillow user, wow, this should be very interesting.
Hi Don, I hope I’m able to sneak away somewhere quiet & join the conversation. I like the way Zillow put the whole invite — respectful of PBO!
Thank you Gazelle, will add it to the next post
You’re welcome, Dear Chips! How the heck are you. Last time I visited you were w/ cow pies & dingle-dongles (or somesuch!)! No matter, hope your vac was fab!
“Last time I visited you were w/ cow pies & dingle-dongles (or somesuch!)”
 Gazelle, THAT sums up my vacation!!
Worse, I stepped in horse poo this morning – here’s the culprit, freaking out my dog nephew:
So, yes, endless animal poo and malfunctioning dingle dongles!!
What a fantastic looking horse and dog!!! Just wear your Hunter wellies so all you have to do is hose them & leave’um on the porch :)
But Bob, this was a huuuuuuuuuuge poo – which leads me to ask: how is that possible on a diet of grass and oats? (Afraid to Google it).
Is this recent poo incident related to your inauguration poo photos _ hmm?
Okay. I couldn’t resist. Horses poo approx. 8 times a day. Their digestive system is very inefficient. However the poo rots quickly, turns to dust and is GREAT fertilizer I know. TMI, Ms. Chips, but I’m big time horse people, and still smell like the one I rode this morning, although he’s not as cute as that little pinto.
Rule #1…Never get horse people started. Waltzing through the woods on a trusted equine friend……….watching a youngster you raised and gentled come down to the wire in first place….sorry about that, Bobfr. I never know when to put on the brakes.
No need to apologize, Lynn. These conversations are what make TOD such a fun place!!
Come ride with me, Bob!
LOL! I wuvs the dog-nephew! Embrace your Poo-Vacay! :)

Good point. Thanks, yard.

Just lovely. A+ for that student!!
Love it, Yardarm. My granddaughter (now in college) once answered a question on a high school test with: “I’m not interested in this.” And got away with it! Wish I had thought of that when I was in high school!
It wouldn’t have worked then. Teachers were super serious and eight years older than dirt. :-D

I recall Old Orange spent months and months in 2010 undermining Obamacare – a la NYCEve, Joaneleon, and Icebergslim…. because their stupid “public option” was supposedly killed by President Obama and Rahm Emmanuel.
These days Old Orange is nothing more than a flop house for people that enjoy watching Snowden porn.
Well said, Don. What an image.
LMAO! Very true.
I’d swear I posted a comment earlier and now it is totally gone. Oh well, must be WP’s opinion of me.
Anyway, what I basically said is that this past weekend was extremely busy with the four grandkids visiting with their parents. But that is the type of exhaustion my wife and I will be happy to have.
About 4 weeks agho, our younger son announced that he and his wife woule be making us grandparents for a 5th time next February. They have been married 5 years and have been trying very hard to make this happen. They had hope it would happen before my m-i-l passed away last year. They had been seeing specialists, extensive hormone therapy, etc. We figure my m-i-l had something to do with this. Knowing her, shye would bully someone up there.
We had to keep this secret because there were several issues and it will be considered a high risk pregnancy throughout and they wanted to wait until they felt the pregnancy was further established. They let my other son and his family know Saturday, so I guess they are more comfortable with it now.
It is fun watching the two of them as they go through. My son is monitoring all the nausea, etc.
Looking forward to the next several months.
Best wishes to one and all, japa. Keeping fingers crossed for happy, healthy parents and baby….and lots of smiles for grandpa and grandma.
Congrats on #5 Japa. My DIL is still nauseous (poor thing). She is finally at the 16 week mark of a high-risk pregnancy because it’s twins. We hope to find out this Friday what sex they are. I’m sure I will be just as thrilled about #5 (someday) as I am about these first two. ;)
Undoubtedly you will be just as thrilled. My wife is ecstatic because she plans on retiring in April and they have asked her to be both grandma and nanny.
Twins. http://t.co/GZfXxNEklY— Mary Foster (@marylynne1) August 05, 2013
Actually this did indeed happen to me when my twins were infants. I couldn’t tell them apart when I first brought them home from the hospital so one night I feed Baby A and went downstairs to get the bottle for Baby B and when I came back I fed baby A another bottle and Baby B started screaming his head off because he hadn’t been fed at all. To this day I don’t ever let Todd forget that he drank Tev’s bottle. I told him his twins are going to be just as mischievous at they were. ;)
Too funny! :)
Congratulations! Sending positive energy to your family.
Wishing all of you the happiest of outcome and as uneventful a journey to Feb as possible, japa!!
Congratssssss to you…and wishing your son and dil the best…
Congratulations, Japa! Our daughter and her husband also tried to have a baby for many years without success and with several tearful miscarriages. When her pregnancy did occur it, too, was a high risk one, closely monitored by two doctors. But my goodness what an outcome. Last September she had the most gorgeous, perfect baby girl who is the absolute delight of all our lives. May this February bring you and your family the same happy outcome!
Congrats Japa. Hope all goes well.
Congrats japa! This must be very exciting news for you parents, your son and dtr-in-law. Hope the pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible and the end result is a healthy bouncing baby :)
Oh, all the best to your son and his wife on this wonderful news! Happy for all of you.
Congratulations, japa — what a blessing. All the best to you and your family. I am moving back home after a long time away, and I’ll be able to be with my 2 nieces, 5 y/o & 1….they are at an age where it’s superfun to be the auntie :)
Now President Obama will be out there talking about jobs, healthcare, home ownership. Now what are the Republicans talking about, stopping Obamacare, and how much they hate President Obama.
Haters will always hate…they actually hate themselves more than they hate the president…but obviously they need a scapegoat. President Obama is strong enough to handle all the crap they throw his way. They are weak…they can’t even pack a punch.
It will be so good to get rid of them.
Ugh. Just crawled into NYCEve’s screed about NYC insurance costs under ACA, and her sly lies.
How much money she’ll be out of pocket before insurance picks up the whole tab, waah, waah………
Does she think that if we got single payer her taxes wouldn’t go up $500/month to provide single payer health care? Are all of these people high, or just stupid?!
Spiteful, hateful, & naive enough to think most Americans are stupid enough to pay any attention to their emoprog garbage ….
I have avoided this stuff like the plague, and for some reason decided to read it today. I should know better.
Stay away from it, 57, because it’s pure bile and NYCEve has been among the worst. No one outside of a very narrow world cares what Eve’s opinion is and her influence is largely in her own mind. Reading that stuff is bad for the digestion and not worth the headache pill you need afterwards.
I’ve been really disciplined – I take a quick glance for recent news and avoid almost everything and certainly particularly poisonous diarists. I have no idea why I subjected myself to the deranged hysteria on this subject this time.
Well, it will be another half a decade before I make that mistake again.
I decided to pop in over there last week after months of not visiting the site. It’s just awful! That site saved my sanity during the Bush years but it has become a mess. If you don’t spew Obama hate you’re automatically piled on. I am NEVER going back!
LOL! Cry me a river ms. Eve. This NYCEve is a privileged entitled emprog who lives in NYC’s upper West Side. I don’t hear her complaining about the outrageously exorbitant rents or high cost of living there.

In a stunning announcement, the Washington Post said Monday that it has been sold for $250 million to Amazon owner Jeff Bezos.
Publisher Katharine Weymouth made the announcement at a hastily called meeting of the paper’s staff on Monday
Does anyone remember the wonderful movie, The Paper? Michael Keaton, Glen Close, Jason Robards, Marissa Tomei?
There was a scene where the Keaton character is going for an interview at a rival newspaper but word gets out. “How’d you guys find out about this?”
“We’re a newspaper, Henry,” says the late, great Lynne Thigpen.
But it appears that no one at the Post knew about this. They really do just sit and collect 6, 7 figure salaries, waiting for the phone to ring, don’t they?
I don’t read the Post anymore, but it is sad what is has become. I am a native Washingtonian and it’s just not the same paper.
Anyone watching Martin has just seen Bill De Blasio, the NYC candidate for Mayor that I am supporting. If you are in NYC or have friends and/or family there I hope you will help spread the word about this terrific candidate.
As I’ve posted before, i first met Bill when he showed up in my neighborhood to rally with us in support of keeping our firehouse open. Now he is doing the same thing with hospitals. Bloomberg and his clone Chris Quinn have closed 17 hospitals in NYC and plan to close 5 more. The one in Quinn’s own neighborhood has been converted to condos selling for enormous sums. That is the Quinn Bloomberg plan. Eliminate services and increase expensive housing and hotels.
Bill is an all-around good guy with a happy family and just like that does with POTUS and his family it is driving De Blasios’ opponents mad. They are scrounging around desperate to find dirt on him and failing to do so.
Not incidentally the De Blasio family is multiracial. Bill is a 6’5” white guy and his wife Chirlane a petite AA. Their daughter is in college and their high school age son, Dante, is famous for his giant afro which his father occasionally encourages him to trim—to no avail.
Bill’s campaign theme is a tale of 2 cities rich and poor and one of his stated goals is to address the inequality.
Bill speaks strongly about ending stop and frisk and hiring a Police commisioner who will be responsive to all of us.
All in all a True progressive and a wonderful candidate. Spread the word.
de Blasio advertising support is being provided by former Obama adman @delcecato. @delcecato is also representing Barbara Buono for NJ Gov.

You have some racists haters complaining every time President Obama goes on vacation, but Congress is gone for five weeks, what does these haters have to say about that? President Obama and his family will take a eight day vacation at Martha’s Vineyard. Not a five week vacation. Every single one of the House and Senate is getting paid by we the taxpayer, they have great health insurance, if Government is so bad then why don’t Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and others refuse that pay check, that health insurance.
Reminder… Congress always exempts themselves from the rules. (I know you hate Joe Scarborough and can’t stand to watch him, it’s just a reminder that when they complain about the “Obamacare mandate,” it doesn’t apply to them. Despicable critters.
Watch Joe Scarborough have a cow today re: Congress always exempts themselves from the rules.

Screenshot from Morning Joe today. Joe: Congress passes laws, then they exempt themselves from laws… http://t.co/GQc0zmT6DX— Arapaho415 (@arapaho415) August 02, 2013
How did Congress omitted themselves with pres Obama agreeing for that? Was it Not Congress who were insisting that pres Obama be part of the participants in the ACA? They forgot that any POTUS has his Own Medical Unit and Doctors. Jay Carney was asked months ago about pres Obama and ACA. So when did pres Obama sign into law this exemption?
I am probably the most ignorant person here re: Obamacare.
But it looks like Congress arm-twisted the Fed Govt “Office of Personnel Management” because they are such grifters and cry-babies. Critters, if you will.
I think the problem was that the government has always subsidized government employees health care. Because of the way the law was written, it was not clear whether the government could continue to do so, or whether the employees (all fed employees I think) would have to foot the cost themselves. The ‘fix’ is just that the government can contribute with the subsidy. I don’t think they exempt themselves from anything. From what I read, it just means they get to be treated like other non-government people. But I could be wrong.
The Washington Post has been sold to Jeff Bezos for $250 million. Glenn Greenwald will soon tell us how this is about him.— Dr. Matt (@DrMatthew) August 05, 2013
“Seattle-based Amazon will have no role in the purchase; Bezos himself will buy the news organization and become its sole owner when the sale is completed, probably within 60 days. The Post Co. will change to a new, still-undecided name and continue as a publicly traded company without The Post thereafter.”
I hope he dumps Bob Woodward.
And Jennifer Rubin!
Yes….She is better suited at the Murdoch New York Post
She is better suited collecting garbage, nowhere near a keyboard.
Linda…..Bob Woodward is at WashPo, for clout. Tradition. Woodward could have named his price for any other paper to have had and employed him over the years.
Thanks to the election of pres Obama……Woodward…..has finally been exposed for what, who and a RW nut Job that he is. His hate has exposed him.
The name is changing? Not a smart move.
WashPost is a well known name around the globe.
That bothered me, too, and I see no reason for it.
The seller is “The Post Co.” They will change their company name after WaPo is in Bezos’ hands (wouldn’t make sense for the company to still be named for something they are no longer affiliated with).
Sounds like WaPo newspaper/media will still be WaPo under Bezos’ direction.
US power is shifting to the West Coast. As a West Coaster, I like it. :)
Totally misread that then. as did everyone else, per my twitter TL.
re: your comment above about the movie “The Paper.”
Today’s media is a lot like the income inequality gap in America. The national beltway media are a closed circle who love to banter amongst themselves and complain about hangnails. Very tiresome.
They are so damn lazy; they have NO idea what it was like to work in journalism before computers, cell phones and email..

Didn’t HuffPo sell for over $300M some 2-3 yrs ago?
Don’t remember, but I hate that site. They were darlings for awhile because they are digital only. Things are sorting themselves out now, with newpapers being priced at rock-bottom now. It will take people like Bezos, who understands logistics and digital to bend the downward spiral of newspapers back up to where they belong (and where they can afford to pay a reporter to cover the state capitol):

Not only is he the most unempathetic person on the face of the earth (I think they’re called “sociopaths”), but he’s got the biggest ego.
Hated him before, hate him more now.
Idiot. Just hope the MSM is waking up to the vile creature they rallied behind in June.
MSM will rally behind any creature they think will destroy PBO – no matter how vile, that is, until the brunt of the damaging effects are felt, not by PBO, but by the GOP, MSM (which usually ends up being the case).
Wonder how GG fits through doors, Pf. With an ego that size, he must have to walk sideways to get his swelled head through a doorway. I can say with absolute certainty that the President of the United States has not given one nanosecond of thought to Greenwald and would regard any mention of his name as a waste of presidential time. GG is a sick, self-obsessed man who has reached the state of absolute delusion about himself and paranoia about the world he lives in.
You’re so right jackie. Like Sarah Palin, the little attention he got from the feckless MSM made his already oversized ego that much bigger and more delusional.
But the fun will soon be over. PBO is LARGER than the US media, with all their corporate sponsors and mega platforms, they cannot bring this good man down.
EVERYTHING that happens in America, Russia, China is about GG – they could not survive without him – what a piece of work he is.

Secondly, this kind of propaganda is always meant to instill fear. People react when they’re afraid. The trouble is, most often they are attracted to the wrong solutions. Witness Bush/Cheney in the aftermath of 9/11.

Didn’t Tina Brown announced yesterday for the sale of Newsweek? Yep.
Chicago Tribune is for sale and last week, Boston Globe was sold too.
The whole situation with Goldie Taylor and the threats she’s been receiving on twitter has been storified:
Looks like a lot of religious/Baptist ties—-per usual. More hate in that group than any other —–it always seems
Looks like we could use a new thread, so I’ll post a comment. (Based on past experience, a new thread will be up in 5 minutes or less, LOL.)

I neglected to cc: @lawscribe on this tweet; I stopped following @cpen awhile ago because of her frivolous tweets, but when I started following her, she was Twitter Communication Director. Hope she’s still at Twitter.
Still missing keys—best buy was not able to remedy—-sent me to computer guy—-too busy today—-hey, I was just able to type c and m! What???
Anyhoo—–stumbled on neighbor’s facebook page—have lived across from them for 30 years. He had posted a photo of PBO, saying “look how angry PBO looks because he got caught—–look at the scary thing he is reading—–(in so many words)—–and there’s PBO getting off AF1 with Rahm greeting him and he’s holding the book “The Post American World, Fareed Zaharia’s book—–re. U.S spreading democracy has led to the rise of other countries—like china and India—–but this is the kind of junk that people pass along—-trying to make something sinister out of PBO reading a bestselling book. I’m debating with myself whether to say something to correct the paranoia or just move along.
My advice would be not to stir things up. You won’t be able to convince him — he’ll get into a defensive crouch, and people can only hear (not listen and understand) when they’re in that mode.
You’re neighbors, and IMHO, it’s not worth the grief of upsetting someone so close to home.
Just my opinion, not really worth much, but there it is.
Didn’t the Silent Generation always follow the rule of not discussing Religion or Politics between neighbors and kin?

Freaking entitled, spoiled brat taker! http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/08/05/19881583-staring-a-relatively-small-hedge-fund?lite
To set the stage, an unnamed, hyper-wealthy young guy wrote an email to his fraternity brothers, offering some of them a new career opportunity.
As some of you may already know, I have been interested in the world of finance for some time. After a series of summer internships, however, I have somehow found myself without a full-time job offer for the upcoming year. F***n’ Obama’s fault for strangling this economy.
Luckily, due to the tough job market, my dad has agreed to let me access my trust fund early (mid 7-figures) to start a relatively small hedge fund, __— Ventures, after graduation. I’m emailing you guys today to let you know that, for the rest rest of the year, I will be recruiting 2 full-time employees and 1 intern to help me get this off the ground.
With my financial expertise, help from my powerful father and connections, and a skilled team, I have no doubt that this fund will rise quickly to prominence. We’ll all get filthy rich and, inevitably, bag hot slampieces. If possible, I’d love to give all 3 of these positions to my brothers.
Benen has something to say about this jackass…..
Hopefully his hedge fund will implode – if anything in the email is true – the finance world was smart to NOT offer him employment. Anyone who supports hedge funds deserves every financial failure that comes their way. hedge funds bet against stability and growth – they should never have been legalized – I equate them to betting which horse will come last – or those auctions where the lowest bid wins.
I am gonna ask my dad to lend me enough money to start my own hedge fund and see what he says……
