Snapped in a random Irish town this evening. Honest!
Okay, back in a bit with a newsie round-up.
Kiss me–I’m irish!
The naughty mat locker is open! :-)
No wonder it’s raining where you are:) Raining PBO… :) Is it really that random? Ireland LOVES President Obama!!
WTH was that? Makes no sense at all…but hopefully, you’ll get the drift :) Yikes. I’m drinking iced tea. Plain, old iced tea.
Ha, ha ha!!
Ha! Pres. Obama is everywhere.

Pretty foot, where was this? I LOVE IT!!!
Donegal creameries? Is that some powerhouse “football” outfit? Pardon my soccer naivete’——outta the loop on that sport—-but PBO looks cute and strong.
Popping in for a moment before I head back to weeding, but since you answered a football related question, I shall answer. “Donegal Creameries” is the shirt sponsor. The team is Donegal GAA, which plays not what we call “soccer”, but “Gaelic football”, which, along with hurling, is one of the two traditional Irish sports. And it’s loads of fun to watch.
No need to thank me. I’m a librarian. It’s my job.
Thanks anyway, LL, for the “edgamacashun”. I’m still pretty hopeless, tho, because “football” is still the Bears to me and hurling is something bad that happens when you drink too much. But I love librarians.
One of my favorite things about this blog is the opportunity to get a perspective outside the Northeast US.

“The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is launching an online ad campaign on Monday to run during August recess that highlights competitive Republican primaries.
Called the “GOP Tea Party Primary-Palooza,” the significant media buy will include web video ads, online ads, Facebook and Twitter ads, and “news alerts” to highlight the latest developments, according to a release obtained by CQ Roll Call.”
““We are seven months into the cycle, and each week a new GOP primary or Senate candidate seems to emerge, further complicating their path to the majority,” DSCC spokesman Justin Barasky said in a statement.
The map, on its surface, heavily favors Republicans, as most of the competitive battles are for seats held by Democrats. However, the GOP needs a net gain of six seats to take back the majority in 2014. There are more than enough seats in competitive states for the GOP to do it, but it remains a tall climb.”

Think there’s a lot of media speculation out there right now, and the lure of getting a “scoop” on a big story, so skepticism may be the best approach for dealing with these emerging stories.
RT @Levitt_Matt: AQ's new explosive: clothes dipped in liquid explosives abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=198…— Mike Walker (@New_Narrative) August 06, 2013
Same principle, noted below, applies, unless they intend to ignite the ‘clothes’ with with something other than a specific frequency (unlikely). In scenario below and this scenario, most likely they would be using something that would pass through most security checkpoints (phone, tablet, computer that has been fitted with a ‘radio source’ or, even more likely something that would look like the electronic door opener one has on the key chain with a car key, or something that would look like the radio source used to start autos instead of inserting a key in an ignition or that control the door locks/security alarm on a car). Our folk are plenty aware of all these scenarios.
Well, you don’t need to ‘detect them’ to ‘trigger them’ …. detonator most likely set to some specific frequency … lots of scenarios for how that could be leveraged to prevent a successful boarding of a plane or entry into ‘high value’ targets …. just say’n …
Gonna post this downthread too, for those who miss it here.

A middle-aged couple had finally learned how to send and receive texts on their cell phones. The wife, being a romantic at heart, decided one day that she’d send her husband a text while she was out of the house having coffee with a friend.
If you are sleeping, send me your dreams.
If you are laughing, send me your smile.
If you are eating, send me a bite.
If you are drinking, send me a sip.
If you are crying, send me your tears.
I love you
The husband, being a no-nonsense sort of guy, texted back:
I’m on the toilet. Please advise.
(Some guys just don’t get it.)
Good to see you resuming life as the resident story teller yardarm – I gather the R&R went well.
Finer than frog hair 99ts. Thanks for asking.
Shipmate!!!!! Are you back on duty, or just saying a quick hello from a casino or some such naughty place??
I reported for duty 2 days ago! Where you been Admiral? AWOL maybe? :-(
 So it’s actually been me who’s been AWOL?? Okay, sorry Shipmate, I thought I’d slip out unnoticed, but back on duty with the mighty UT, so no more at ease stuff, man the mast pole thingie, you hear?
  Mast pole thingie she sez! Oxymoron anyone?
Oi! I am trying to remember all the shippy terminology you’ve taught me, and I’m almost certain you mentioned mast pole thingies at one point. I’m right, amn’t I??
Negative. The mast IS a rather large pole that is vertically attached to the ship.
Your seamanship is a wanting!

Listen better Admiral. Listen. Get outta the football stadiums and listen to butterfly wings, eh?
So now I have to go and investigate frog hair – your turn of phrase is very educational. :)
99, that frog hair thing confuses me too. When I Google it I get this:
I don’t understand. Since when did frogs have hair?
Frogs have had hair since the GOP took over control of the house. Facts are no longer tolerated.
It seems like the sailor, you are enjoying vacation time (freezing winter in my world). I am somewhat bothered about your lapse in regard to ManU. They are in need of some support on the blog. UT scares the everything out of me when I mention them in any positive way.
Let me know what you come up with. Frogs up here don’t have any hair.
I am sure there are some RWNJs supporting the growing of frog’s hair – or they will be if we can announce it does not exist.
Better still if PBO says it doesn’t.

More gun violence—–tonight in Pa.
2 killed, 4 wounded in shooting at meeting in eastern Pennsylvania, county official says. on.cnn.com/13BBJU2— CNN Breaking News (@cnnbrk) August 06, 2013
What is a “town supervisor’s meeting” or for that matter a “town supervisor”. Is this someone settling a city/town dispute with a gun? Truly unbelievable.
Insanity. As the NRA likes to say, “guns don’t kill people.” Yeah, right.
“Two people are dead after a gunman opened fire during a township meeting in Monroe County, Pa.
Police say the shooting took place early Monday evening at the Ross Township municipal building on Anchorage Road in Ross Township, Pa.
NBC affiliate WBRE reports that a gunman carrying a pistol with a scope shot through a wall of the building. WBRE also reports that five people, including the gunman, were injured during the incident, in addition to the two confirmed deaths.
Police have not yet confirmed whether or not the suspect is in custody.”
I don’t get this at all.
How is it possible that the majority of white Americans sit in judgment of how our President handles issues relating to Race? As the old saying goes, if you haven’t walked a mile in one man’s shoes… (I’m notorious for garbling old sayings, common wisdom).
Quinnipac Poll: 53% of whites said they disapproved of Pres. Obama's handling of race relations. via @joshtpm
livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/poll-ame…— Arapaho415 (@arapaho415) August 05, 2013
That 53% of white folks have only one way of dealing with “race relations” – it can be defined many ways – but “white privilege” is the polite version.
This! If you notice, they say mostly republican. My bet is that it is 99% republican.
Lynching comes to mind too.
Arapaho, I’d like to know who they interviewed and where. Were these ‘older whites’? Mostly southern? Mostly rural? Different folks give different results and I don’t believe these results give an accurate picture of whites in general. Try younger whites, city people and mostly northern states and I’ll be the results are different.
Exactly. Polls can be skewed all kinds of ways. This poll sounds too Romneyesque to me.
I don’t think it’s particularly skewed. There are many people who think a black man has no right to be President & the same group would think it disgusting if he was anyways supportive of rights for minorities. 47% of voters voted for Romney. They were 95% white. These are the people who are being surveyed. Like the GOP in congress – if PBO says anything about anything – they are against it. Some detail of the poll:
While 78 percent of Republicans said they disapprove of the President’s handling of race relations, 80 percent of Democrats said they approve. Seventy-eight percent of blacks and 61 percent of Hispanics said they approve of Obama’s handling of the issue, compared with a majority of 53 percent of whites who said they disapprove.
If 47% of whites did not disapprove ( some polled would have no opinion) of what the President has done – that is probably more than the % of whites who voted for him.
Guess what? To hell with Quinnipac Poll. Why don’t Quinnipac ask these same 53% if they are racists.
Sorry, but I’m not buying into any of Quinnipiac’s propaganda polling. These polls are no longer used to accurately reflect public opinion – instead they are used to manipulate the public into accepting the MSM’s preferred style of looking at at things – which is from a conservative, wealthy, while privilege vantage point.
The same Quinninpiac put out some numbers about who America thinks is the “hottest” politician, with Chris Christie being #1, and Hillary Clinton & Elizabeth Warren supposedly coming in 2nd and 3rd in some order. PBO was at #4 (he was obviously placed in that position by the pollsters and their friends in the MSM to let America think that he’s no longer popular relative to the other three – which is an absurdity). Quinnipiac cannot convince me that they polled “America.” That poll reflects the media’s wishes, not America.
Who is the greediest, Gov. Christie would be number 1 without a doubt.
I agree, so many of the questions being asked by pollsters are nonsense – they want to stir up resentment and animosity – rather than discuss issues of substance. All rather sad.
OK, @JoshTPM answered my question (unknowingly:
“Sally Quinn, weirdly, said tonight that this is the end of the family owned newspaper era. But my understanding is that Bezos is a person and presumably has a family. So I’d say it’s something like a rebirth of the family-owned era rather than its demise….”
What rational person would make a statement like this, when the whole point was that AMAZON was not purchasing WaPo, but that Bezos is. The 53% of whites who dismiss the President’s perspective on race ARE INCAPABLE of viewing anything from a POV other than their own.
They should listen to their own selves when they speak. Or better yet, let’s stop asking people who say STUPID things questions, OK?

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way
computers have enhanced our lives, read on…
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
“If Ford had kept up with technology like the computer industry has,
we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.”
In response to Bill’s comments, Ford issued a press release stating:
If Ford had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be
driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash………twice a day.
2.. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to
buy a new car.
3… Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You
would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows,
shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could
continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4…. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would
cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you
would have to reinstall the engine.
5….. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was
reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive – but would
run on only five percent of the roads.
6…… The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights
would all be replaced by a single “This Car Has Performed An Illegal
Operation” warning light.
I love the next one!!!
7……. The airbag system would ask, “Are you sure?” before deploying.
8…….. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock
you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the
door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9……… Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have
to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls
would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10………. You’d have to press the “Start” button to turn the engine off.
PS – I’d like to add that when all else fails, you could call
“customer service” in some foreign country and be instructed in some
foreign language how to fix your car yourself!!!!
Please share this with your friends who love – but sometimes hate -
You’re right, Yardarm. I’ve driven the same car for 19 years with little frustration. Can’t even calculate the rage I’ve felt over the years at one computer glitch/failure/data loss or aggravation after another.
Me too JG..my Toyota Camry IS 19yrs old. The longest I had a computer was five years before it got too slow to run. Taking it to be repaired was more than buying a new computer. How the heck does Microsoft get the cost of a car being $25 with all that goes into a car? Anyway good response from Ford. Due to difficulty typing this short comment it appears from my calculation it’s been five years since I bought the current laptop, there has been three operating systems and time for a new laptop.
I’m tellin’ ya!

Murphy’s Law. Ha!
Republicans don’t want LIVING people to vote, but it’s just fine and dandy to take money from DEAD PEOPLE…because that’s free speech…from someone that can’t speak anymore.
Get the freaking money out of politics. End this madness! Bribes and corruption is all this gets us…elected officials NOT beholden to people, but the almighty dollars that flow…..sick bastards
They are such liars – when discovered they have tried to say it was a computer error – and the money was donated April 12 (the man died on Apr 13). Who is donating money to Mitch McConnell the day before they DIE!
And I am so sick of people blaming innate objects for their own mistakes. Had a woman on the phone recently telling me “it was automatically done (in error) by the computer”. She sure wished she hadn’t given me that excuse for their incompetence.
“They are such liars – when discovered they have tried to say it was a computer error …”
Republicans are such blatant hypocrites! I can still hear James Baker, Representing Bush, during the 2000 Florida recount go on and on about “machines don’t lie and cheat,” and only people doing the recounts were capable of lying and cheating. Of course he deliberately omitted dealing with necessity for recounts: people making errors when using voting machines.

Glad I’m not the only who saw right thru this nonsense. This whole thing is completely RNC/GOP manufactured, and MSM-enabled.
As noted two threads back … “… reality is, she’s not going to run for President. All of this stuff is just fluffing egos and playing games and it’s truly pitiful to watch yet another ‘distraction’ consume so many folk when the real issues should be pursued relentlessly – jobs, halting voter suppression, crushing misogynists, ending the tyranny of the gun makers and merchants, etc.”
The plutocrats will prevail if the majority of Americans are able to be distracted by this nonsense. @sfpelosi could not be more correct.
